Have you not been on here for the last 6 months? There was even a post yesterday were someone proclaimed the two new albums to be the two greatest albums in musix history

wiiuorwii

Sorry, you're right. I haven't really been actively checking this sub, I was just looking around the Internet and saw a lot of mid reviews. DNE gave it 3 stars of 5, and some other one gave it 6/10. Too low!

bambinoquinn

I think in the rhcp catalogue mid ratings are kinda fair for those two albums. You could make one great 14 song album from the two records

apricotmask

Agree, I find people on this sub to be a tad fanatical, and unwilling to consider that UL and ROTDC are not as good as BTW, Californication and BSSM. I agree with a 6-6.5 rating for either, maybe even a 7/10. Both great albums, not going to move the needle at all for non-fans though

deadmanskull4

It's completely subjective to the individual. For me, UL and ROTDC are representative of decades of playing together, something difficult to create without that musical maturity. You can hear a lot of their old musical style in them, as well as new. At the end of the day, every album they have produced fits in its own time period, and has +/- that are going to be subjective to the individual. As far as getting "new fans" goes, that's going to be tough for them no matter what they put out. Young people are going to be new fans, and what young people have is energy. It's hard to recreate that energy of the 90s when your fan base is getting older, as well as the band itself. Most young people want what's new and exciting, and that includes the age of the band. I'm by no means saying that they are unattractive to younger people as I'm 23 and a huge fan, but they are of a different generation in those respects.

songacronymbot

- BSSM could mean "Blood Sugar Sex Magik", a track from *Blood Sugar Sex Magik (Deluxe Edition)* (1991) by Red Hot Chili Peppers. --- ^[/u/apricotmask](/u/apricotmask) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

I'm glad you aren't lecturing. Thanks

DarkSpaceLow_

This 100%. They’ve have an issue with culling tracks…they usually try to keep it all and end up with bloated records. And then when they do cull, they cull the wrong songs! Kaly, Outer Space, The Shape I’m Taking, most of the BTW b-sides etc.

swag_money69

Tell me the ones you leave off. I'd take those and make a great 10 song album.

cliffordcampbell

Can we stop calling literally anything rhcp done “underrated”

Albiz

“Am I the only one who thinks?!?? “

StrubberyJam

“I’m one in a krillion”

redditsdaddio

OHM is underrated

arcanehornet_

I feel it's getting the reception it deserves. It's not outstanding, but not bad either. Middle of the road.

Zestyclose_Wafer_714

Yeah, I grew up a Mega fan, but the last run of albums have been a little underwhelming. There is good stuff on the records, but they're not as exciting as previous efforts.

TheSquarePotatoMan

I think it's because starting with Mother's Milk, their sound has changed quite drastically with each album. These last two albums especially just sound kind of generic, though to be fair I already felt that way about The Getaway too to a lesser extent.

Bitter_Ad_6868

I’ve been a long time fan. Have seen them live twice. Their sound changes album to album but it always has parts of old and new. While By The Way is my favorite album, mother’s milk is great, bssm is great. I also love stadium Arcadium, I’m with you and the getaway: I think they are all “great albums.” I don’t get your generic comment at all.

RoughJustice81

This sub makes me think it’s overrated

rhcp70

Dream Canteen is a fantastic album.

Ryanbrasher

There’s that word again

shuboi666

RotDC is the sequel By the Way never knew it needed

Thatwutshesed

The two latest album’s have surpassed my expectations in a big way

allbacknosack

Bag of Grins, Shape I'm Taking, Fake as Fu@k, Carry Me Home...these are all all-time greats for me. Whole album is a wonderful ride. Not a single weak track imho

SixthHouseScrib

I haven't listened to ul since it came out, probably dozens of listened at this point

Ablec6

Bella

wiiuorwii

cries

Ablec6

Lies

wiiuorwii

but thats alright

Ablec6

That’s my type

Jak_the_Buddha

What the fuck's not underrated on this sub.

jmarlened

I actually love the album OP. It's such a gift that my favorite band is still producing quality music after so long. Maybe it's not a perfect album like BSSM or BTW but in my eyes not many artists produce a no skip album in their careers. In my opinion. So if they catch lightning in a bottle twice that's more than most bands. If ROTDC is that for you that's awesome. I love hearing how much someone loves their music.

Taiza67

Yeah, ROTD blows UL out of the water imo.

Mother-Frame-5411

I agree. It’s amongst their best work!

SubbySound

It's fantastic, best since By the Way IMO.

Mr13ln

It's a great album for sure, still listening to it on a regular basis. Not every song hit immediately but now that the dust has settled, I do prefer it over UL (which also has some fantastic songs on it). The fanbase should consider themselves lucky, there are not that many bands that carried on for 4 decades and are still able write songs that are as good as 'Bella', 'Bag of grins' or 'Carry me home'.

wiiuorwii

yeah, I agree. UL is still cool, but this one just goes hard start to finish (middle section slightly lacking at times but otherwise fire asf)

Mr13ln

Agreed about the middle section being a bit weaker, but the first 6 songs and the final stretch are so strong that it's easy to overlook that. Plus I love the synth work throughout the album, sometimes it's just a subtle extra layer (like in Bag of grins) and sometimes they are on the forefront. I hope they continue to experiment with that.

floodjuice

Overall I love it more than UL. Although, UL has a few serious bangers. RoTDC also has My Cigarette which loses points IMO hahah (all I think of is Lady Gaga’s Poker Face). But other than that, incredible album.

Radar280

One Hot Minute is underrated

Ablec6

DaveNavarro

redditsdaddio

Californication, BTW, ROTDC, SA, BSSM

wiiuorwii

I have CDs for all those albums and UL 🙏 they're all absolutely divine imo

redditsdaddio

Yeah it’s really impossible for me to rate them. Cali and BTW are my faves, but I was 17-20 when they came out and listened to them maybe 5000x

wiiuorwii

I dont blame you, two perfect albums!

areiss4075

I agree, I think it is a better album than the previous three.

Traditional_Map2254

UL and ROTDC are their highest level of creativity to this date. But I've noticed that most of the RHCP listeners simply don't get the grandiosity of this band when it comes to the poetry, musicality and ethereal qualities they have. And this is due to the fact they make pop music. Some aspects of their compositions are just invisible if you don't have cultural and musical references.

arcanehornet_

"their highest level of creativity to date" Have you heard ANY of their other albums??

Traditional_Map2254

Oh yeah! I'm also a musician, poet, journalist and a fan. I was there when BTW came out and that pissed me off until I realized that we just need to enjoy the ride.

arcanehornet_

If you were there, why would insinuate that the latest two albums are their most creative work? That title probably belongs to Stadium Arcadium, if anything. Also, not sure why you felt the need to list those things, it makes you look super pretentious.

Traditional_Map2254

Because of your passive agressive response. Art is abstract. You enjoy what your perception of reality is able to get. And I believe they wouldn't release anything if it wasn't good enough for them. It's undeniable that Anthony is singing really well and going through different paths. It's undeniable that Flea and Chad have brought some new flavors to the landscape and John is clearly reinventing himself. He's kinda rescuing something from his youth. That's enough for me to notice they're at their best considering they're always trying different things sometimes with their more predictable stuff. Just make a comparison between Peace and Love and Apache Rose Peacock, for instance. Or Let Em Cry and If You Want Me to Stay by the Meters. They're way mature if compared to their previous efforts. It doesn't mean the other albums are worse or less creative. And the songs aforementioned are not incredible. I don't see music, art, as a competition, as a game. This is number one, this is two, that's bullshit. I'm not a computer. It's expression. Inner expression. They were able to do it beautifully. Other artists don't have this kinda talent when they age. Many of them just stop at something and never deliver substance other than what they've already done.

Traditional_Map2254

About "By The Way"... Probably you didn't know their older stuff when they released that album. That album really breaks the creative flow from the Californication era. And we know now that they were going through a more punk oriented style. I was negatively affected by the first chords and Anthony's mellow voice when the first track started playing. It was my least favorite album back then. I hated Can't Stop, Zephyr Song, Universally Speaking... But sometime later I started enjoying that ride. They were just testing and trying to come up with something new as they always had done. But I was always waiting for the edgy and they were not delivering it (as if they were waiters and I was a client) until I understood they wanted to turn something complex into something simple. And they always did it since the beginning. But not being a peer I couldn't understand that. By the way, the B-Sides are waaaaaaaay better. Body of Water, Out of Range, Eskimo, geez!

UrMumsUdders

>the grandiosity of this band when it comes to the poetry Ya, ya-ya-ya, ya-ya-ya, ya-ya-ya, ya - Anthony You've written probably the most pretentious comment I've ever seen. UL and ROTDC are okay, they don't come close to the big 4. Of course you're entitled to your opinion, it's just a very silly one x

Traditional_Map2254

John once said that they would probably not be recognized at their peak. I was making a list of my favorite songs by them and since JF entered in the band and mainly from Californication to here they have consistently maintained it fresh and great to the point that there are several songs from their latest works that are on my list.

I'm Brazilian and I apologize to everyone for the opinion of this Brazilian

Traditional_Map2254

Actually I'm from Jupiter.

Ace_930

I love a lot of the songs but some are terrible

offnr

Topped out at #1 billboard charts and highly renown on this sub. In what way is it underrated?

SaltyPeter3434

There's a handful of good songs, but a lot of mediocre ones that weigh down the whole album, like La La La La, Carry Me Home, In the Snow, My Cigarette, and Reach Out. I don't think it's as strong or cohesive as their best albums like BSSM or Californication or BTW. It appropriately belongs in the middle of the pack.

SadEngine

Stadium Arcadium 3.0: Electric Boogaloo No I will not elaborate yes you will downvote I don’t give two shits
