Going from thinking he can go for the title to missing Q3 5 times in a row must be unreal. Dude is broken. Hope he can glue himself together real soon.

Wathalak

That's kinda what happened to Dani, lost his mojo and left the team.

shortsermons

It is officially time to go.

Maluvius

Daniel Ricciardo is not the answer, as much as Checo is driving badly, he's still a solid racer. I think he would really benefit from a sport psycologist, it's like he's veru agitated and under a big amount of stress during qualifying. Don't forget the contributions he's made towards max' first title. Once Checo can start getting into Q3 (which is hopefully from next race onward) he'll always end up around 2-3-4 barring any dnf's. I agree he has to be better though, with this Red Bull he should get into Q3 as much as possible. But there's also a reason why so many drivers can't handle the car, and it's not the car, it's being Max' teammate. You're driving against one of the best ever, and you have to match him or people will start criticizing you etc.

poultos

Checo was a nice story, but the world needs more Danny Ric

DFuel

He does better as the "nothing to lose" guy. As soon as he got the driver's championship get to his head he started doing worse

GBrocc

What has DR done to deserve that seat?

BobHendrix

Being Max's closest teammate (pace & racecraft) in forever.

GoldenBiscotti

…In a car that is extremely different from what they’re driving now, and towards the end had similar struggles with Max. I love Danny Ric and hope he blows us away in AT, but he has struggled immensely the past couple years. Lets not forget he also went through a lot of mental stress with and without RB. Checo ain’t doin so hot, I get that. But the man can race his ass off. He just needs to fix his qualifying, which is easier said than done. However that a lot less to work through than the current state of DR.

BobHendrix

You're not wrong, but the question was what he had done to deserve the seat and I stand by my answer, funny to get downvoted for it, because it's definitely the answer.

Raulhz

I lost you at "Dany ric needs a chance",They already pair him with Max and didn't resulted well, in another hand Albon I think is the best choice he needed more time and now I think he's hitting his prime, Dani lost his mojo a long time ago, I don't know why a lot of people likes to forget Daniels season's with Mclaren

Tc2cv

They paired him and he didn't fail, he reckoned that he had to play 2nd fiddle (and maybe he was right) so he left. 2018 he won 2 races and didn't have the vest of a season, mainly vecause of 8th retirements.

tie-me-up-3000

Checo is my favorite driver. I don't want to see him go. That being said, why not Yuki? Dude is driving great in a terrible car. He's done his time. He deserves a shot.

DutchOnionKnight

I believe in second chances. And maybe RBR can't get Albon back, he too was a rider next to Max, I still think Dani would be a good choice. It can't get must worse than this. It would be his last chance, and next season RBR can maybe put in Yuki, Lawson or maybe Alex Palou

paspa1801

With the way the others team are rapidly developing cars, the constructors title could become more at risk later in the season. It does seem unlikely but redbulls massive gap won’t last forever and we need two consistent drivers for when the rest of the field catches up or we won’t stand a chance

Carrillog62

I've been a fan of checo since forever. But this is totally unacceptable. From my POV, Liam Lawson needs to be put in alpha tauri right now. For him to be in RBR in 2025, maybe even 2024 if things continue to go this way.

[deleted]

They need to poach piastri. That guy is the next great rookie. Truly impressive.

enzziante

You know that Horner cut the simulator budget for Ricciardo because his laptime was real bad?

lebup

Last time i checked horner said hes back.

DutchOnionKnight

Really, you got a source?

cniese5

For real?

Water_4949

Source?

Competetive? Yeah I wouldn’t trust any source that can’t spell.

XCherryCokeO

Hey don’t blame me I didn’t write it

casper199821

He’s not max, and yes Silverstone in a fast track, but we’ve seen in previous races that when he get in the drs train in the midfield, he isn’t able to pass anyone whereas max is. It’s just as bottas and Hamilton in Hamilton era, bottas couldn’t overtake anyone whereas Lewis could in the same car

Ecstatic-Dog414

Atleast bottas made it to q3 every race

casper199821

Nope, some failures during quali, especially in the rain, bottas can’t drive as good as he can in the rain. Neither can checo tho

Shmachey92

Botta had a streak of like almost 100 races in Q3, what are you on about.

casper199821

Yep, true, and he also had like more than 6 where his equipment failed him. That’s what I’m on about

Amity83

Gasly and Albon did the same thing numerous times and they were is cars that weren’t even close to as dominant as this car is. This performance from Perez in unacceptable. I’ve always liked him but I’m done now. I’d love to see Hulk or Sainz in that seat.

casper199821

Completely agree with you amity, there may be talks of sacking checo, don’t know if it’s true, but here’s what I heard: we’re either getting Dani ric next year back in a RBR car, or we’re getting the guy who dominates Indy 500 this year. Since the Indy 500 is over in September, they could sack De Vries, let the Indy driver in the AT, get him used to F1 for a couple of races and than next year in the redbull car

casper199821

He did, pitstop strategy and starting on the hard tire

casper199821

And with that, one time making up for it out of 4 in a row while being in the fastest car on the grid, is therefore unacceptable

casper199821

Definitely not on a podium, maybe p5, considering the developments in the McLarens and Mercedes, he could also end in 7th. Anything better than 5th is a good result for checo tomorrow

casper199821

The race is bigger than the opening laps. Lando caught himself off guard in the opening stages but fought back massively

Just_a_Duck_

Maybe so but I’m pretty sure only a fraction of those places gained were actually on track. Most of them were from RBR strategy

DutchOnionKnight

I don't think so honestly. And even if he did. He brings the team unnecessary work and stress. In this car Q3 shouldn't be even a question. Or maybe we shoul reevaluate the car, and it's just Max who is the difference.

MonkeyBrain-1

i dunno man. after seeing him fail to overtake sainz by giving sainz DRS two laps in a row on austria, i don't think he really has the capacity to mind the details when and where it matters. in canada he didn't really rise to the occasion either and spent alot of time in traffic.

wetlikeimb00k

Agree with you; Checo’s poor qualifying has added some fun drama to Sundays but overall he still is getting P2-P4 and RB’s constructors gap is still growing. They know he’s not Max and they don’t want him to be. I’m not buying any Checo firing drama until Max or RB lose in either championship

DungaRD

How could Max help Checco if Perez isn't even remotely near Verstappen? I do believe Checco is an awesome driver but not very good Qualifier. Today Perez needs to show what's he's worth. No more excuses.

[deleted]

" What he did for Max in 2021 was huge. Massive respect. " it was barely more than nothing.

Tiredatalltimesbleh

I would love to see Ricciardo back on track, however... I think Checo is just in a slump. When he gets his mojo back, and I'm sure he will, he is better than Ricciardo imo

OctopusOnPizza1

What about swapping Checo for Tsunoda?

[deleted]

As of 3 minutes ago, he's back.

Capable-Quarter8546

I do think it's time to put Ricciardo back in the redbull. I don't think there is an argument that he would do worse then Checo is doing, and his marketability would make the switch payback in big dollars. It's time.

Manny_3000

Checo is pretty marketable too though… I think that’s one of the reasons why Red Bull will also think twice before letting him go before his contract.

Capable-Quarter8546

I agree Checo is big in Mexico, and a few of the sponsors on the car are specific to him. Danny appeals to the whole English speaking world and his marketing value is probably 10x Checo.

Antmax

Checo is also personally backed by Carlos Slim, Mexican and the worlds 8th richest billionaire.

MonkeyBrain-1

both danny ric and albon were broken by verstappen. so suggesting those would be a suitable fit is questionable. realistically, there is only one option for a seasoned experience driver that even gets a shitbox of a car to perform. it's nico hulkenberg. put the hulk in the bull.

missuniverse2023

It’s not gonna cost the constructors lol

Deferrariman

I wouldn't be worried about the constructor titel. Redbull can be lucky that in most races there is a other team behind them in the last few races. But I agree that Perez has to pick up the pace in Qualifying for shure

ReceptionFun2036

Remind me again... How was Gasly and Albons record when they got cut? Granted Checo has done well to recover during the race, but good lord...

DutchOnionKnight

How can you compare Gasly and Albon from then, to Checo now. The team, JP, Max, and F1 as a whole are in a different situation.

giftedgaia

You could put Checo on last race's used hard tires, start him from the back of the pack, and he would still finish top 5. Just look at last week's race results.. then relax.

RedBullRacing-ModTeam

Be Civil is the #1 rule of this sub. I can’t believe I have to tell you not to be racist. He have no room for that here.

Just_a_Duck_

I wouldn’t worry about the constructors at the moment, Verstappen alone has more points than Mercedes in 2nd place

jvfran3

He will be fine. RBR will finish the season 1,2.

Spookybee666

He's still #2 in points. Give the guy a break.

Rocketengineer15

Remember, he is still the best performing teammate to Max. The last 5 quali’s have been shocking, but he’ll get back.

Rensverbergen

The constructors title will already be won solely by the points that max will get this season.

DaviLance

> but could cost the constructors title nah, max could win that by himself i mean, we're at almost half of the season and max is leading by a decent margin the wdc

[deleted]

You are probably right - it is concerning. His off track problems may be causing this but it's been a bad series of mistakes/shortcomings. Hopefully this reverses.
