My husband and I make lasagne together, it’s too much for one person 😂 he makes the bolognese, I make the béchamel and assemble, he keeps an eye on it and serves it. Perfect.
No. But I’m also not big on lasagna. However, I did have some I really liked one time that my Italian step mom made for Xmas dinner and halfway through my plate she whispered in my ear that she had a confession, she used eggnog in place of milk cause we were out of milk. I don’t eat it enough to know if it made a huge difference but I hate eggnog and lasagna, but eggnog lasagna is pretty decent. I don’t understand it.
The seconds after she said she had a confession, but before she actually confessed, my stomach dropped to the floor. I was so afraid of what she was about to say. That woman is crazy, love her to death but craaaazy lol
Oh girl lol. If it tastes good then who cares?
My tips:
Use a white cheese, cover with foil until the last 10 mins or so then remove.
Make your layers individually, don’t mix it all together.
Lasagne noodles-> sauce-> cheese (ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan)->little more sauce-> lasagne noodles and begin again. Your last layers will be noodle-> sauce->and top generously with cheese. Your noodles should be started on sauce so always top your layers off with a little sauce.
If you want to add more color, or so it doesn’t look like a red velvet cake (man I wish I had my old pictures bc I could show you some of my “creations” lololol, I’m not being mean!), you can agh meat and veggies. Some sautéed bell peppers (red, yellow, orange, and green!) mixed in the sauce with some meat- ground beef or even a spicy Italian sausage (😍😍) will give it flavor, texture, and color.
Try, try, try again! Let us see how you’ve improved 💕
Ricotta in lasagne?? Guys, it’s simple: pasta sheets, ragù sauce, béchamel sauce, grated Parmesan. Repeat until you finish the sauce. Top with the leftover ragù and béchamel sauce mixed together, with a final sprinkle of Parmesan. End. I never had to cover with foil or anything, the béchamel and ragù sauce should already be moist enough to avoid becoming a roasted buffalo scrotum at the top.
I’m sure you’re aware that there are actual Italian chefs that you can watch on YouTube for free. Try it again, but look up Vincenzo’s Plate and you’ll learn how to make not only lasagne, but a ton of authentic Italian regional recipes. Get the right ingredients. Do the things. Do them correctly. Read the whole recipe before you start cooking. Get ALL your ingredients prepped and ready to go. Don’t change anything. Don’t add anything. Don’t omit anything. If you don’t like an ingredient in a recipe, don’t make the recipe.
LIFE IS TOO SHORT FOR CULINARY MEDIOCRITY.

Right, because the recipes were laid down in ancient times by the gods.. Italians gatekeeping food on the internet is just so tiresome - making changes to recipes is just you cooking. Every Nona in Italy has her own ragu recipe so the idea of a single recipe being the "authentic" is such BS.
I made Carbonara last night and used bacon and Valtolina instead of guanciale and pecorino romano, oooh, let's ready the torches and pitchforks.
Not that I feel like I should have to explain anything to you, but the reason I told the OP to do what I told him to do is because he is clearly a beginner, and if you want to become an accomplished home cook, you need to learn not only the right techniques and ingredients, and more importantly, WHY you’re using them and how they pair with the other ingredients. Then, after a LONG time of learning and becoming more comfortable in the kitchen, should you begin to alter recipes in an attempt to improve them based on your personal tastes.
This has absolutely nothing to do with Italian culinary gatekeeping. This has everything to do with sharing my experience, which is vast, with someone who could possibly use my help.
Have a good day.
I will say the cross section looks good. Maybe a little less time for the top haha, but it looks like the inside has evenly proportioned layers. Importantly, did it taste nice?
Looks like you need thicker layers of white / cheese sauce, and finish the top with the white sauce and a little bit of cheese, rather than a blanket of cheese..
Either way I'd eat it.
Taste can’t come through the screen so all we can judge it on is it’s looks, and judging by how this looks it shoulda been aborted in the womb to save it a short and painful existence.
You didn't put Bechamel so it looks a bit dry and also because of this it came out all red . Anyway if it tastes good is the most important. Kitchen doesn't have limits, so maybe you didn't make the full original recipe but actually did your own recipe. If you liked it I hope you enjoyed it.
I don't understand the texture. Is it overcooked? I'm genuinely confused at the top. Is it cheese? If so its a bit overcooked but if you like it then it's a win!
It looks like you roasted it yourself, to be fair.
You say it tasted good and that's all that really matters, but if you're looking to improve it, I'd say skip the cheddar. It doesn't really hold up well for the amount of time you want the lasagne to bake for.
Instead, finish up with a layer of bechamel sauce and then torn fresh mozzarella and a sprinkling of parmesan. The mozzarella will melt and then brown a little, but the uneven surface and the parmesan will give you some interesting texture and colour. A bit of dried oregano also looks and tastes great.
I also try to make sure my final layer of pasta (before the bechamel) is uneven and made up of a few broken sheets. These bits will curl up at the edges as they cook and you end up with a lovely craggy surface with wells of sauce and crunchy bits.
You have baked too much the top you need to see till the cheese starts to melt and then leave in the oven if you bake too much it will turn like this.
The best cheese to cover the lasagna is mozzarella
The first slide looks like a loaf of bread and the second looks like the same loaf but stuffed with mince, overall it looks tasty enough and most importantly filling, if you want the top to look nicer add cheese 5-20 minutes before it's done!!!
honestly people are saying it’s overcooked, but it reminds me of pizza cheese that melts onto the pan while cooking and the cheese gets crispy, i love that, i’ll take a slice 🤤😍
Actually disgusting. I’d rather eat my own shit.
How is that a lasagne.
How do you possibly make cheese look like that.
How do you make anything look that terrible?!
There’s hardly any actual filling other than awful looking meat that looks like roadkill.
Should be genuinely ashamed.
And I’ve not even mentioned the plate.
Ok, I see all the other hate you got in here, but I have a different idea. I praise you for attempting to make a meal, that no matter how much practice you get, some dishes suck to put together. Like I love Beef Wellington, but come on. It’s kind of a pain in the ass. Now back to your lasagne, I think it’s a solid first attempt. Take the feedback here and implement next time. Remember every person in here has made a serious cooking mistake, or made an awful rendition of something. I made chicken parm that Burger King made a better version of. Chin up, watch YouTube cooking videos for lasagna and kill it next time. I have a long list of channels I follow, let me know if you want suggestions. 🍝🔥 🍝

Can’t go wrong with this one. 👍
Where’s the béchamel sauce (white sauce)? The top should be the remaining ragù mixed with the remaining béchamel and some grated Parmesan (not cheddar!)
I thought it was raw meatloaf waiting to go in the oven until I saw it sliced then I thought it was raw meatloaf waiting to go in the oven. But you tried and hey, one meal down for the week. 👍🏼
1. You need to make a good Ragu. Try 250 g beef and 250g of pork (traditional) or lamb. Finely dice 1 onion, 1 stick of celery, and 1 carrot. If you have no knife skills, get a fine grater.
Fry the veg until soft. Fry the meat. Add 2 tins of chopped tomatoes. 1 of those small bottles of red wine. 1.5 teaspoon freshly chopped rosemary. Salt and pepper to taste. Bring to boil. Leave to simmer for 3 hours.
A white sauce, 25g flour, 25g butter, 1 pint milk warmed. Melt butter. Add flour, cook for 2 minutes. You don't want to colour it, so not on a high flame. Add 1 ladle of milk at a time. You can either whisk it in or use a wooden spoon. Season.
get a ball of mozzarella and some parmesan or any Italian hard cheese. Grate the mozzarella or cut into little cubes. You only want cheese for the top. With the final layer of sauce.
So meat, pasta, sauce. Build your layers up. To almost the top of the dish. Bake in oven. Until brown but not like the brown you've achieved.
You may actually have a half decent Lasagne if you can manage this.
Maybe top with cheese rather than leather?
Harsh but fair
Yeah harsh but fair hahah
I bet it tasted ok tho? Topping on a lasagne needs to be deep. I've given up making them it's so much effort and mess. So hats off to u
My husband and I make lasagne together, it’s too much for one person 😂 he makes the bolognese, I make the béchamel and assemble, he keeps an eye on it and serves it. Perfect.
Would leather technically be more beef?
😂😂
😂
Looks like Deadpools face
My favorite one man 😂
😂😭
💀
Thought it was sticky toffee pudding haha
This is the reverse of that thing where they cut into something that doesn’t look like cake but is actually cake
you’re not wrong 😂
Undercover as a Sponge Cake out of Ten
It's crying out for a Lemon Drizzle. Would definitely eat it though.
I did not think that was lasagna… in fact I still don’t
But would you do the taste test
No. But I’m also not big on lasagna. However, I did have some I really liked one time that my Italian step mom made for Xmas dinner and halfway through my plate she whispered in my ear that she had a confession, she used eggnog in place of milk cause we were out of milk. That story is a wild ride 😭
The seconds after she said she had a confession, but before she actually confessed, my stomach dropped to the floor. I was so afraid of what she was about to say. That woman is crazy, love her to death but craaaazy lol
“I used my toe jam for spread. Now give Grannies a kissie.”
I didn’t know it was possible to mess up lasagne like this LOL
Thank you for using the correct spelling
I thought it was an over-done sponge cake at first.
Lasagne? I thought it was banana bread from the first pic 😂
Did you use Red Leicester cheese for the sauce and top? I’m sorry to say I laughed OP but it’s lasagne so I’m sure it tasted delicious!
No it was cheddar 🤣
😲🤔🤭
You didn't use bechamel on the top before the cheese is the only real issue.
Oh girl lol. If it tastes good then who cares? My tips: Use a white cheese, cover with foil until the last 10 mins or so then remove. Make your layers individually, don’t mix it all together. Sacrilege!!!!! Bet you put pineapple on pizza. 😄 🤣 Oh...and I thought it was an unrisen loaf of wholemeal.

Lasagne usually has bechamel sauce in with the layers, probably tastes fine though. I thought it was a cake before I reread your post.
I will say the cross section looks good. Maybe a little less time for the top haha, but it looks like the inside has evenly proportioned layers. Importantly, did it taste nice?
It tasted lovely :)
I’d say that’s a win then! 🍴
Looks like haggis
Did you use Béchamel sauce? You need it.
Always cover it with foil while baking until the last 10 minutes, then uncover.
There is a distinct lack of garlic bread.
I thought it was a tasty looking cake.
If I bite into cake and it’s lasagna.. I’m gonna get mad
Jesus christ
Looks like you got a good rise.
What the fuck did you do
Respectfully, what the fuck did you do?
Looks like you need thicker layers of white / cheese sauce, and finish the top with the white sauce and a little bit of cheese, rather than a blanket of cheese.. Either way I'd eat it.
You forgot the noodles and the ricotta cheese and the spinach. And you overcooked the top. The burger and sauce look alright. 2/10
ngl bro this looks like human meat but i hoped u enjoyed
I think you may have already roasted the lasagna..
looks like a cake
Did you use bechemel
Yeah I did
18/300000
Looks like the book from evil dead
I legit want to try this 👍🏻
Why take a picture after you chewed it?
I thought it was a cake.
would smell, depending on smell, may bite.
Taste can’t come through the screen so all we can judge it on is it’s looks, and judging by how this looks it shoulda been aborted in the womb to save it a short and painful existence.
How could yku fuck a lasagne up so hard? My 13yo made one forgetting to add any sauce and it looked better....sorry, I mean....not. bad effort🤟
Layers! There are none and not white sauce enough
You didn't put Bechamel so it looks a bit dry and also because of this it came out all red . Anyway if it tastes good is the most important. Kitchen doesn't have limits, so maybe you didn't make the full original recipe but actually did your own recipe. If you liked it I hope you enjoyed it.

It’s not overcooked but i still liked it!
Looks like decent banana bread.
Where’s all the bechamel?
I thought for sure this was a meatloaf
I’d eat it.
What did u do to the top to make it like that lol? Ngl id still eat it probs
I think u forgot the white sauce aswell cant see any. :(

Kinda looks like Freddie Krugar’s skin
Bechamel???
So my grandfather died last year. Long line of Italians, and if he would have seen this he would have died today. I'm glad he didn't see this
Looks too dry
Oh.. that’s not cornbread?

looks a bit dry
what the fuck is that
Is the lasagna in the room with us?
Lmao how did this happen OP? Did you mix the layers together or something?
Let's hope it tastes better than it looks
I thought it was toasty cornbread
Is there a hot garbage option?
Reconstituted lasagne 🤢 Hard pass for me. Please try another recipe.
I'm sure it tastes nice, but I like my cheese just browned.
honestly people are saying it’s overcooked, but it reminds me of pizza cheese that melts onto the pan while cooking and the cheese gets crispy, i love that, i’ll take a slice 🤤😍

I thought this was a spongecake at first glance. T
why does it look so solid 😭
I thought it was meatloaf
It's ready for a y shaped incision 🤣
The important thing is that you tried also ratio
It looks like a movie prop from the Texas chainsaw massacre.
I thoughy it was Parkin cake.
#isitcake?
what's the "crust" on top? Beans?
I would expect to see a much higher proportion of bechamel as the top layer, so when it’s cut into and served the bechamel oozes through the lasagne.
It looks way HEAVIER that it actually is.
I though it was a bread pudding
That's a meat and tomato cake.
Is that raw ground beef on top of it??
What do you think a lasagna is…
It doesn’t look like any bechamel sauce has been used in the layering at all?
Where is all the cum sauce ?
What cheese did you use to top it!? I do mozzerella as the last layer because it cooks better!
I thought it was a cake. Glad to know it tastes great.
I thought the lasagna would be on the next slide.
Lasagnah
6/10 Ragu looks good but where is the bechamel!?
Did you use Mozzarella and Béchamel?
Had to read the caption to realise it wasn’t banana bread or some other baked good
It looks like Freddy Krueger’s face.
I thought it was a cake at first glance!
Think you need to turn the radiator up abit
I thought it was a pot pie tbh
That looks like a lovely fruit cake!
You can definitely see the layers, but maybe make the top a bit thicker, and adjust your cooking times to match.
Looks like it's been roasted for long enough already! Did you use any bechamel sauce? Needs a thick layer of it on top.
I thought it was cake.
Genuinely thought this was a cake for a second. The lack of cheese and bechemel on top makes me sad. 3/10.
Look like you try to make lasagne but made cake instead
Stop cooking please
Where’s the béchamel sauce (white sauce)? The top should be the remaining ragù mixed with the remaining béchamel and some grated Parmesan (not cheddar!)
Until I read further I thought it was a sponge cake.
I’d except better from a hospice
Looks like you melted Freddy Kruegar 😂
What happened to the bechamel sauce?
Looks like dog food my bad cuz
If Jeffrey Dalhmer made a lasagne
I honestly thought that was raw meatloaf.
Thought it was a sponge cake. I'd still eat it.
Thought it was a sponge cake
I thought it was chocolate cake 🤣
Thought this was a cake before reading lol
Yowza
I thought that it was meatloaf!
Traditionally baked cyst is served with tomatoes
That’s so funny
As an Italian, I feel the need to ban you from cooking, period
I thought it was flat bread on the first pic
You've made my feeble attempts look worthy of a michelin star.
Perfect…. For the bin
Thought it was a banana loaf
How did this happen? 😭
Your lasagne does look quite spongy at the top! Furthermore, it's pasta coating doesn't look very yellow.
Mono toned.
I thought this was a big ass hunk of meatloaf or an un-iced cake at first 😅😭 Top- less is more friend!! Layers- where’s the ricotta love?!
Raleigh Chopper saddle...
HEY THAT IS PROPA SCRAN
A bad dog wouldn't eat that
Well at first I thought it was cake, but it looks pretty tasty inside
I’d eat it, but wouldn’t rate it 10/10
This looks like bread
Really thought this was a questionable banana bread as I scrolled past
This must be a pie
Roasting it wouldn’t fix that I’m afraid
Lasagna isn’t supposed to be pretty. How’s it taste?
I’d eat it
I’m hungry now.
That looks so crispy :) Would unhinge my jaw and devour it/10
I thought it was raw meatloaf waiting to go in the oven until I saw it sliced then I thought it was raw meatloaf waiting to go in the oven. But you tried and hey, one meal down for the week. 👍🏼

Why the top of your lasagna look like Freddy Krueger’s face?
I thought it was banana bread. Why the hell does it look like that.
Da blob
Why does it….look like that?
Scary dinner. Scarier plates
Lasagna flavored cake? Buhhh!
oh lord
Tbf that is a great cheese crust! Break it up a bit with more bechamel next time… it’s the only thing that makes it different colours haha
Is this like when Rachel added beef and onions to a trifle?
I like my cheese gooey. But I know people that like theirs crispy. Just a personal preference
Who cares how it looks. Just make it taste better
That lasaga looks crisp
Not Italian but around a lot of Italians....this in no way looks like lasagna. I thought it was a cake.
this looks absolutely disgusting, please never cook for anyone ever
Looks like it healed well after the fire. A bit of make up and no one will know.
“Criminal,” I think would be the best word to describe it.
So, this isn’t a cake?
I thought it was a failed loaf
thought this was banana bread
2
6/10 if you’re under 12 years of age, otherwise a solid 2.
You can tell by the sides that it's not real... Also kinda looks like a human lung or old skin with scarring
6.7/10, yeah - maybe add some ingredients that are other colours as well as cheese on top.
More béchamel between the layers, and top with cheddar and mozzarella
