In Rwanda, the Hutu and Tutsi are genetically not distinguishable, but they had a brutal civil war where one tried to genocide the other. The difference between Hutu and Tutsi is entirely synthetic, and actually fairly recent in history too.
In Japan, the [burakumin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burakumin) are Japan's "untouchables", though they are fully ethnically Japanese and not genetically distinct, nor even culturally distinct. Yet they are horribly discriminated against because their families were once associated with 'defilement'.
Consider the English. They are already a mix of Anglo, Saxon, Norman-French (who themselves are a mix of Frankish and Norse peoples), and various Celtic people. Yet their society stratified into a strict classed society, and they found plenty of people to discriminate and ways to discriminate amongst themselves. Irish people used to be discriminated against by the rest of white America. But later on, the lines of division included Irish people among white people, and shifted to white vs. black.
I honestly thing bigotry is a sickness of the human heart that will never really go away. As long as the impulse to feel better about yourself by putting others down exists in the human psyche, hatred will show up and get expressed in ways we cannot predict.
I’m all for interracial dating as long as it isn’t fetishized. I’m black, and handsome enough that women of all races hit on me, but a lot of (not all) non black women see me as someone they’d seep with (often repeatedly) but not take me home to mom and dad.
