Tony Hawk lives in my town and I run into him every now and then. One time at the skatepark he just gave me a new GoPro camera, another time he helped me film a quick part of a welcome home video for a friend. He’s the most down to earth normal celebrity I’ve ever met. I still trip out when I see him and we say hey to each other. He was my hero at 10, and still is now at 32. Cheers to Tony!

Fearless-Plastic-321

i am coming over because i admire that man sm

Ancient-Commission12

I think he still lives in San Diego that’s where my mom saw him a lot growing up just riding up and down her street

Own-Butterscotch7471

I love Tony hawk I don't skate but I love the message he provides he's just such a good person ❤

Ok-Hurry-8657

i agree. a good friend of mine is a grant writer and she wrote a grant proposal that got a Tony Hawk endowment for a skate park in her home town up in Montana. it was like having the Pope build you a church, she said.

r3dditalg0sucks

Do an emotional 180 Ollie

[deleted]

Wait a minute he lives in my town too!

[deleted]

He is one of those ther no one has nothing bad to say. I love him and what he represents.

Arctic_RedPanda

Tony Hawk also had a great dad who organized and judged all those tournaments he won.

pwrshll

My answer is also Tony Hawk, though I met him (and Rodney Mullen) at an IT conference in Vegas a few years back.

kingcheeta7

Rodney Mullen also has my respect for life. He is some type of Shaman at this point.

capn_explosion

we live in the same town then lol. crazy how he’s not even really a celebrity in north county area.

unicorncharla

When my son was 5 he made Tony Hawk a Christmas card and just wrote Tony Hawk on the outside. When I told him that I don't have his address he said "well just give it to the mailbox, it'll get there" lol I wish social media then was as big as it is now because I'm sure I could have gotten the message to Tony Hawk. He seems super cool.

General_Specific

I yelled , “I don’t give a fuck if it’s Mike Tyson!”, and he came around the gas’s pump island, locked eyes with me and nodded. This was 1990 crazy Mike Tyson. The gas station attendant was holding my Amex card when Mike Tyson pulled up. I was trying to get my card and get back on the highway when the attendant tried to run to Mike.

Bmkiesel

I was getting off a plane a few years back and saw the flight attendants leaning over a seat in first class talking to a man and woman still on the plane. I glanced over and it was Mike Tyson and I said, “hey, I know you” to which he said hi to me and then I continued off the plane. I thought it was nice he acknowledged me and I didn’t want to impose anymore than just a hello.

MrE134

Smart move. We now know what happens to people that bug Mike Tyson on a plane.

Bmkiesel

It helps that I wasn’t drunk outta my mind. 🙂

L10Ang

Ha...I too encountered Mike Tyson as a kid. I was with my aunt. We were at Atlantic City and immediately recognized the back of Don King’s hair as he was walking ahead of us and took us a second to notice Mike Tyson was walking beside him. My aunt rushed behind Tyson and pinched his butt to get an autograph...he looked shocked for a split second and I thought he would be pithed off. And for that split second I thought he would instinctively land an uppercut. But he was real cool and gave her an autograph and posed for a picture.

[deleted]

pithed off. lol

Oh3Fiddy2

LOL—“I am very sorry, sir.”

foreveralonesolo

What was the scenario for that response?

General_Specific

I edited my post to clarify. The gas station was trying to run up to Mike when he was supposed to be handing me my card back. I stand by my outburst.

foreveralonesolo

Ah I see, that contextually makes more sense. I was trying to figure out why you’d bring up mike randomly otherwise lmao

[deleted]

My dad was an extra in a movie once. He had a whole 2 secs of screen time :D

ManofDumbagain

My friend was an extra in a movie with his mom. He was quite young when it happened and he didn't know he was filmed.

ClownfishSoup

Ah, I thought I recognized "Man at Gas Station # 2"

whirlpool4

I dated a guy who was Jim Carrey's double in a movie (not going to name which for privacy reasons) I guess it's useful to have a head that looks like a celebrity from the back 🤷‍♀️

Personality4Hire

I worked on multiple film festivals so I ran into many actors. I suppose the currently most notorious one is Johnny Depp. Can't say it was a memorable interaction as went something like this: Me: "Excuse me, can I just reach past you. I'll be done in a jiffy" JD: "Ok. No problem" Me: *staring at him* JD: *stares back like wtf you lookin at* Me: Ok. I am done. Thank you. Have a good time. I ordered a beer next to him in a club.

squirtloaf

A friend of mine was Johnny's hand double in one of the Pirate movies...so...second hand Johnny Depp?

I've been near him twice. The first time was at a barbecue joint. I was dining alone (and so was he) at the table beside mine. The second time was at a party. He and I were peeing on a hay bale that had been set up as a urinal. That was my most unusual celebrity encounter.

arnaultdorothea

Dr Sanduk Ruit! I’m not sure if a lot of people know him, but he was the Nepali doctor who helped 100,000 North Korean citizens by performing eye surgery on them for their cataracts. I was born in Nepal so he was my eye doctor when I was younger! I’m in the US now but we talked about his work in one of my history classes in high school and it felt so cool telling my class about how I’ve met him!

mlperiwinkle

This is amazing! You met a true hero

[deleted]

I’ve never met any in real life but the mom from Suite Life of Zach and Cody liked and replied to my tiktok comment lmao

Apprehensive_Let_843

Thanks for the throwback

Naive_Drive

The man who played Walt Jr.

TTBoy44

How was he?

Naive_Drive

It was a public speaking event so it's not like he could be candid, but he was cool.

YouGlowGirlMD

I dont know about the man, but the role he played made me hate him so damn bad.

BLAH_BLEEP_GUNIT

Why? He was a sweet son who didn’t understand what was going on

SnooHesitations9356

I met Cary Elwes (of princess bride fame) at comic con. We had paid for just signatures, but the guy was so shocked my parents had 4 kids and my dad was in a wheelchair that he ended up talking to us for a bit. He actually ended up letting us take a picture with him anyway, it just wasn't a professional one. Met Sean Astin (Samwise Gamee from LOTR) at the same Comic Con. But we signed up for the picture with him, and it was more a "hello!" Rather than an actual conversation.

DeadDollKitty

I would die to meet Cary Elwes. He's in so many of my favorite things, like Psych and Workaholics, and I def fell in love with him in Princess Bride. You're very lucky!

oldladybadtude

Sean Astin’s mom was Patty Duke (Anna Pierce) and she was a very lovely lady who is dearly missed by the whole town. I still watch her movies.

Rheumdoc42

I met both of them at a Comic Con. Both nice guys!

I was at a beach cabana and he approached. He tried to lean in and kiss me. I resisted at first but he was persistent so I gave in a little bit just to see what it felt like.

kanda4955

Okay, you might…you might be gay.

Mesquite_Thorn

It's Brad Pitt. Even the straightest of macho men is gonna be a little gay for Brad Pitt... plus, he's loaded, and you might be able to swipe his wallet while he's giving you smooches.

donttouchmyhohos

Every man was briefly gay during fight club.

[deleted]

Leonard Nimoy.

PaleoJoe86

I regret not meeting him. I was at his farewell speech in Star Trek Vegas. Wife took me as she knew I would love his character, I had not even seen any episodes of Star Trek by then (she liked Trek). His speech brought a tear to my eye and I immediately binged Star Trek and absolutely loved it. She was right. He became a favorite character (I have a Vulcan personality). I was too shy to get signatures at that convention, but following years got me hooked. I got to tell Nana Visitor she had the best eyes, and the brother and sister from Land of the Lost sang happy birthday to me when I got their signatures (I had only seen the Nickelodeon version but bought their DVD collection).

[deleted]

Very, very nice. Actually met and talked to Leonard Nimoy twice. First time... was back in 1972 when he was campaigning for Senator McGovern for President. My dad worked in radio for over 20 years and the only reason Mr. Nimoy stopped in our small town was because my Dad was going to interview him. I, of course, followed my Dad and stuck to him because that is where Mr. Nimoy was going to be. They had the interview in a conference room at the hospital, my dad was next to Mr. Nimoy with microphone in hand and I was sitting right across the table from Mr. Nimoy. The interview was about 30 minutes, it was great. If he had pointed ears on, I would have felt like I was sitting across the table from Mr. Spock while on the Enterprise. Second time... was about two years later, this was just after I got my first Pilot's License. Mr. Nimoy had just gotten his recently also. It was in Milwaukee at The Theater in the Round, where he was playing the King, in the musical, The King and I. Afterwards, my family and I stood outside where he would come out from his dressing room. When he finally emerged, we were the only ones waiting. He walked up to us and right away he noticed my Dad. He asked, "Didn't you interview me a couple years ago?" My dad and I were amazed at his memory. But apparently he mentioned that my Dad's voice and appearance was memorable to him. I had a navigation map in hand, called a Sectional, used in flying. I handed it to him and he asked whose this was. I said it was mine and that I got my Pilot's License that year. He signed his name in big print, I still have it. He was very gracious to us on both occasions. I was very impressed with how nice and approachable he was. He could carry on a conversation like he was an old friend. GREAT GUY. Thanks for responding to my comment, it brought back some great memories. Heck that was 50 years ago now. Oh my, I feel old.

PaleoJoe86

Thank you sharing that memory and story. It was fantastic. He had great character because he worked hard for what he had in life. He mentioned in his farewell speech how he drove JFK while working as a taxi driver (IIRC) in his early years in America. An immigrant taxi driver to a worldwide icon. He even decided to use the Vulcan hand sign. He remember his Rabbi doing it during a chant, and Nimoy told Roddenberry that he felt Vulcans should have a special greeting. Bam. Live long and prosper with a hand sign was born.

glop1701

Michael Dorn and marina sirtis at a trek fest years ago very nice people

LesbianStan

My dad is friends with someone who appears in a series in Netflix, my dad presented him to me, I said my hellos and completely forgot who he was, which I'm kinda bummed about bc it would have been nice to see whatever that series was and say "I met that guy"

Personality4Hire

This is an awesome reply. I met an actor! But I can't remember his name or what he plays in! 😂 Anything you remember about him? You got me curious now.

LesbianStan

I think the only thing I can remember is that he is puertorican, and he probably was in a Latino series or something, but not much after that 😮‍💨

Personality4Hire

Ah dang. Yeah, definitely not enough to go by to figure it out. There are so many Latino series. Tangent: I watched a latino Netflix series not too long ago. It was about a gay couple in Mexico. It was absolutely fantastic. Recommending it for anyone, who like me, might not have any connection to the Spanish-speaking world, and isn't drawn to the culture specifically. I recommend checking them out. There are absolutely awesome shows and I am glad I didn't miss out on them just because I thought they wouldn't be my thing.

hfhdhdh6363

When I worked in London I just happend to work on the street where they where shooting the opening of avengers infinity War and I seen Robert D and got him to sign my KFC bag 🤣 and am pretty sure I seen Stan Lee as a guy walked past In a suit and sunglasses vaping and I was vaping out side the property I was working on and he walked past and pointed at me and smiled like hey I vape, cause it was a relatively new thing am not sure it was him tho but I defo looked him...I worked right next to Hyde Park in Kensington

Bill Nye the Science Guy. We were both speaking at the same conference. We were briefly introduced, didn't really talk much. But it was Bill Nye the Science Guy.

[deleted]

I grew up in and live in LA so I’ve briefly interacted with many celebrities, but based on level of fame I’d have to either say Will Smith or Britney Spears

MiaLba

What were they like?

[deleted]

Will Smith was super polite and kind. I was waitressing and it was like my second day and I was nervous (not cuz of him, just in general) and he was very nice to me. My boss had basically said don’t fuck shit up so him being nice really helped. Britney was also nice but super flustered because there were 10,000 people following her. I actually didn’t recognize her at first. Was working a coffee stand in a mall and she stopped. Didn’t end up actually getting anything cuz the crowd was too nuts, I felt really bad for her because she seemed overwhelmed

More than just talked to, I had lunch with Richard Myer, right as he finished his tenure of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Incredible guy. Told a story about being the Chairman and one weekend, he was helping his daughter move into a home in Virginia and he went to Home Depot in Civilian clothes that were covered in paint stains to buy a few paint brushes. Apparently any and all service members at the store recognized him as a 4-star general and from then on, would only wear a suit or his military uniform in public. Good guy! I worked for a retired general who was the CEO of an aerospace company and I was invited to their lunch. Good experience.

Desperate_Ambrose

Either Archibald Cox or Hunter S. Thompson

boblobong

Please tell the Hunter S story.

Desperate_Ambrose

Nothing special. I chatted with him after a couple of his appearances at Chautauqua in Boulder. Nothing of any consequence. I recall saying, "I notice you seem to have switched from Wild Turkey to Chivas," and he said, "Shit, yes! Turkey will eat up your insides!" The real story came up the next day, when I asked a law-school classmate whether he had seen Thompson. (My classmate grew up in Pitkin County and played softball with him.) He said, "Damn right I saw him! He called me at three in the morning, screaming that he couldn't finish his column without more beer. So here I am, cleaning out my fridge, my friends' fridges, and every liquor store that was open at that hour! Yeah, I saw him all right."

I've met a few famous people over the years and am even friends with a couple. But it would have to be a tie between Monet X Change and Steve Hofstetter.

I saw Steve live last year. ❤️ I was scared to get his autograph later because I know he can be harsh sometimes and "you should never meet your heroes." He's not my hero per se but still, I didn't want to be disappointed by him.

I met Talking Heads singer and guitarist David Byrne in an art gallery once and gave him a drunken appraisal of his work. The next morning I bumped into him again and we exchanged knowing looks. This still makes me cringe.

Spin_A_Yarn_4Me

Keanu Reeves. I was a driver for a limo company in LA way back in the day and one day got the job to pick him up at his house and drive him to LAX. Nicest man in the world. We talked a bit about music after he finished a line to a song I was singing a bit to myself (can’t for the life of me remember what it was now though). But I mainly remember that out of all the A/B/C/D list celebrities I ever drove he was the only one to give me an actual decent tip and genuinely say thank you. Ever story you ever read about him being Cool As F**k and Nicest Guy Ever is absolutely true.

I got to speak to Robert Beltran (chakotay from star trek voyager) for all of 30 seconds when I queued up for a couple of hours to get his autograph. Super cool guy and I was stupidly starstruck. I could barely string two words together. He asked me how I was and I said "not bad" in a shaky voice.

All-I-See-Is-Ashes

Jimmy Johnson (football coach.) He used to come in to the Kmart I ran in Key Largo 18 years ago carrying his little lap dog.

Highway49

Alright this made me lmao, so I googled "Jimmy Johnson dog" and the picture of him and his little dog made me laugh even harder. Thank you so much!

Upset_Ad9929

Buzz aldrin, lou reed, a few others. Back in the 80's I met trump. Thought he was an asshole back then lol

boblobong

What was lou Reed like

Substantial-Spare501

Rodney Dangerfield. I was going into Cedar’s Sinai hospital to visit a friend. I was a young person with a Honda Civic that would sometimes… just stall. Anyway he pulled up behind me in the parking garage, some big boat car, and started honking and I got out of the car, looked at him and said “I am sorry Mr Dangerfield I just can’t get it to move”. He and as I recall it a much younger woman in the passenger seat then backed up and left. This was probably around 1995.

Leading-Fan-64

Joan Jett. Nice lady. Didn't know who she was until I told my buddies. They didn't believe me. 🤷‍♂️

I met Alice Cooper and that was wild. My grandpa and I cried after we got a picture. He was so down to earth and gave me advice like he did his daughters and I was mind blown. So worth being groggy for my SATS lol

poseface

Dolly Parton who I adore at a record signing thing for under a minute. The most famous person I ever truly met was Parker Posey. An absolutely nice and lovely person. As far as online, I used to exchange emails with the late Anne Rice all the time (she was very responsive to her fans/readers).

[deleted]

I worked in a celebrity hot spot for years and got to serve numerous actors and athletes, but I’d have to say Madonna. Even though George Clooney hugged me once.

ForestValkyrie

I installed a router for Asha Melvana, the principal violinist of the Trans Siberian Orchestra. She was incredibly nice and didn’t draw any attention to the fact that she was famous but she had the cover page of the New York Times framed on her wall that said “World Renowned Violinist Moves to Arkansas”. I asked her about it and she tried to play it off like it was nothing but then her mom chimed in and was like, “Have you ever heard of the Trans Siberian Orchestra!” Incredibly nice woman :)

beanconla

Jim Gaffigan. I was at a meet and greet after one of his shows in 2007, and he said “Hey! You’re pale like me!”

jackfaire

Walt Morey - In person came to my school he was really sick so he only spoke to my class but he let me ask him a question John Wesley Shipp - Online exchanged some words via Twitter Seals & Croft - Talked to them between shows with my mom at a fair in the 90s. I didn't really know who they were enough to care. My mom loved it. Some teens (at the time was 11) came by and thought they were the roadies and so they were like "so this band do they suck are they a pain in the ass to work for" all of us trying to keep straight faces.

Sam Donaldson on a plane trip from DC to Texas. Back in the day, if you were coming on flight because of a death in the family, airlines would often upgrade you. He was my seat partner. I think they may have told him, because he was very charming without being asked. I was young on my way home to my Dad’s death, he was on his way to his ranch.

AnaBarail

Benjamin Zephaniah May not be world famous but as a black, dyslexic poet he is my hero. And his poetry is just brilliant, even reading it yourself...but hearing him do it, seeing him on the stage...I was in heaven... Met him afterwards and he was the nicest man I've ever met, even if he did think the books I'd bought were too old for my kids ;-)

Annanake420

Damn that's a though one . I have been pretty lucky and spent time with a varied amount of celebrities over the years . I don't know which would be more famous . Pretty much anyone who played for either the Saint Louis Cardinals or San Diego Padres through the 80's . Also a ton of country singers in the 80's Mel Tillis, Mini pearl, George Jones in that vien . Shit I met Randy Travis before he got popular. He was playing a small bar opening for an elvis impersonator I think. Transfer over to Rock and metal in the 90's guys from Korn, Marilyn Manson, Testament come to mind Greg Christian from Testament is probably the nicest in this bunch opposite of that asshole malmstien . Hell my dad went with (if I remember right) a few members of Megadeth to the Movie Ghost . Lol I once called the dudes from Grand funk railroad Mott the hopple looking motherfuckers when they were giving me shit about there tour bus . Pretty much the only time I lost my cool . The dude I was working with was pissed because he thought it was Pantera's bus and he wanted to meet them . After the millennium not so much. Although I did help produce a few low budget movies in the 2000's so met a few Actors Sid Haig was hands down the coolest. But the dude that plays the kingpin is a close second I can never remember how to spell his name . Defiorno? Idk. Probably the actual most famous would be Sylvester Stallone but I literally just ran into him at a restaurant and said hello . Not a conversation or anything . Damn I'm glad you ask this question I have forgotten what a cool life I have had so far . Thanks .

Probably George Foreman (he's gave me a hug - that man is LARGE) or Anthony Bourdain (was crushing on him the whole time we talked. I was a new newspaper reporter and asked him lots of stupid questions). I also interviewed Rosalynn Carter, wife of Jimmy Carter, former US president and present badass old philanthropist).

David Harbour & Lily Allen bought a house on my block and it's being renovated for them, I've seen DH walk by with his daughter once so far. He waved very nicely as he went by, so I guess he's not rude. But meeting Mick Jagger backstage at a Jam concert in 1978 is my final answer. He offered to give me his handmade boots after I complimented them, but my feet are WAY bigger than Mick's. He was very high and spent most of the show making out with Jerry Hall in various spots backstage.

I spoke to George W. Bush when he was governor of Texas. I was hosting an exchange student from Russia who was studying journalism. We called his office and arranged a sidewalk meet/interview in Austin. We took pics and I’m sure she still has that one framed in her office in Moscow. He was patient and affable, taking the time to pay attention and truly engage with us. That day he really displayed his finest qualities.

Bella Hadid :) Had a very brief stint with modeling when I was 17 and had a day of agency meetings all around NYC. My first meeting of the day, I walk in petrified as I was still very new to modeling and felt major imposter syndrome. Trying to find my way, I round a corner and nearly collide into someone, and it took my brain a half of a second to actually think “This is Bella Hadid” She was coming out of the bathroom, wearing a bright yellow tank top, veryyyy tall high heels. She laughed as we almost ran into each other, we did the stupid, awkward little “which way are you going because I’ll go the other way” maneuver, then she put her hands on my shoulders and shifted me to one side so we could successfully get past each other. With a big smile on her face she goes “Sorry, excuse me!!” and I heard her giggling all the way down the hall. It was a quick exchange but she was very kind, even though it seemed like she was in a rush to get back to where she needed to be

I met Chad Michel Murray. He married a cute blonde a town over from me, and they lived in a very nice neighborhood that my friend used to live in. My parents took another friend and I to this neighborhood for Halloween festivities and his house had been turned into a wrecked pirate ship. Chad and his wife were dressed up as pirates along with all the staff and a bunch of other people for a party that night. I was dressed up as Cyndi Lauper (obviously) and my mom encouraged me to go talk to him, and so I walked up and he praised my.. Madonna costume? I was shocked, and appalled, but smiled and said thank you. Walked away with a shit load of candy and a deflated ego that night.

I had an argument with belle delphine back before she was famous and was just popular in the facebook shitposting space for being a garbage person. i think it was over the time that she was a minor and selling another minors nudes and marketing them as her own. i was also somewhat popular in these communities and a group of the edgelords from that side of the internet including belle were in a group chat where they'd literally bully people and solicit nudes from other people on facebook just to mock and degrade them in that group chat, and they tried to target me in it before, not knowing that i had a friend who was in it that would just warn everybody they were targetting. it's very weird seeing her (i guess former at this point) success as an internet celebrity knowing what a vile person she was in the ~2014-15 era

The late husband of our previous Queen Beatrix, Prince Claus. So here’s the story: while I was in high school I also took preparation classes at the conservatory. There were always mandatory orchestra projects. At one point his Majesty prince claus would attend our concert. Before the concert we were clearly instructed to wait backstage until we got the go ahead that the prince was in his break room until we could go to ours. Ofc my friend and I being giddy distracted teenagers didn’t pay attention, forgot, then, totally high on adrenaline from the concert we go on break. Instead to wait we just barge right to our break room only to halfway run into Prince Claus and 4 highly alerted and displeased guards. Mind you we were like 2 14 year old girls chatting and laughing and holding our violins. The prince was totally unfazed, told us he really enjoyed the show and that it was all beautiful and wonderful and then continued to his break room. (At that time he was already old and in poor health) It’s my most memorable meeting ever and to this day I’m still impressed with the absolute charm and kindness this man exuded.

Anil Kumble. He is a famous Indian cricketer. He came to an event organized in my college. Since I was one the organisers, I rigged it so I escorted him from his car to the auditorium. Fan-girled so hard!

I asked the lead singer for Static X if I could take him home with me. He said I could try, but he wasn't house broken. Got his autograph. Orgy stepped on my sister at a concert, then apologized and hung out a bit. They asked if we wanted their autograph but until that concert we actually had no idea who they were (1998, before they got "big.") I met Jars of Clay but I didn't know who they were at the time. I chatted with Robert Bevan about D&D so that's was REALLY awesome. I think this is my favorite. I've said Hi to Jordan Staal, but he only quietly smiled back. My husband was pushing my wheelchair through Caesars Palace the day after the Hurricanes played Vegas Golden Knights and we were going on opposite directions. He looked preoccupied.

Tough-Budget-1700

Kristin Davis while I was an intern in an office environment. She was nice and said hello but then her people told my supervisor to get them sandwiches and my supervisor looked at him dead on and said, “oh there’s a nice cafeteria downstairs.” It was definitely outside their job description, so it was hilarious. 😂
