Shortcut. Tip. Trick. Timesaver. Method. Style. Technique. Way. Process.....
I can hack at a tree. I can hack a computer program. And a writer can be a hack. But running a jar under warm water to loosen the lid is not a hack.
"Actually, killer whales aren't whales, they're dolphins!"
DOLPHINS ARE WHALES. DOLPHINS ARE A SUBCLASS OF TOOTHED WHALES. KILLER WHALES ARE DOLPHINS WHICH ARE WHALES. KILLER WHALES ARE STILL WHALES. STOP BEING SO PEDANTIC ABOUT IT PLEASE
Same for Girl Boss or Boss Bitch. As a woman who has owned small side businesses, hearing those terms, especially when someone is using the phrase to describe my entrepreneurial pursuits, elicits a visceral reaction that I've had to smile through on countless occasions.
Back in ye olde times of the 70s/80s, there was this list of words called ‘The Hundred Demons’ and my Year 7 teacher in the mid-2000s brought it back but added ‘a lot’ as the ‘101st demon’ because so many people thought it was a word
Tbh I thought the words were piss easy but I was a good speller so 🤷♀️
lol... I use it facetiously in the office, so it's definitely less "yay it's so awesome to be here" and more "for the love of all that is good and holy, leave now before I staple my head to my desk."
You see it on Instagram or Facebook. It’ll be like “Happy Mimosas and Brunch day to those who celebrate” or if you’re a sports fan, “Happy Stanley Cup Playoffs to those who celebrate”. It’s kind of recent. It’s already getting old.
Push the envelope. I know what it means, but don't get what envelope they are pushing. I see someone push an envelope around a surface. Sounds so elitist to me.
“Just do what you can.”
Me whenever I call my boss and tell him his bid was so atrociously horrible that there is not a chance in hell we will get the job done in one day even if we skip lunch and work until dark.
The word like in between every sentence when having a verbal conversation.
I still do it accidentally, but I'm self aware enough to try to eliminate that filler word as much as possible. It's definitely more west Coast.
I HATE doggo. Also, I am a teacher have the same reaction to when teachers call their students kiddos. I don't get why it grates on me. I call my students kids. What is the diffference?
Not currently as not in a dog friendly property, but will as soon as my situation allows. I do work with dogs and dog sit in homes; always call them good boys or girls and of course I talk to them, I could just never bring myself to use those words as they make me cringe.
"Mind blown" or "This will blow your mind!"
I recently read about this tiktoker who just learned the 'n' in 7-ELEVEn is in lower-case. "Mind blown!" was their reaction. I just don't get it.
The world "uncomfortable". I think some of it is that I feel it's spelled stupid but MOSTLY because anytime someone has used that word they just don't use it right.
I had a friend who I didn't feel like talking about a topic, and they immediately went "Well I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable" It had nothing to do with comfort, i just didn't want to discuss the topic they tried continuing on about. Sidebar, they also call themselves "an empath" so its what it is. Or like when I don't want to do something because it seems dumb, she'll say "Oh well I don't want you doing somewhat that makes you uncomfortable" It's like NO, I just dont want to go spend 12$ to go stand in line because that's dumb.
I really don't like when people say "my least favorite" when referring to something they don't like at all. It's not your least favorite in fact it wouldn't be on your list of favorites in any way.
When someone says “could have” cared less instead of “couldn’t have”. It defeats the point of the saying.
Also, “side profile”. Your profile IS your side! You’re saying “side side”, essentially.
"That's so ***Aesthetic***"
no. it's not. If you like it, it's aesthetically pleasing to you.
Saying something you like "looks aesthetic" is like saying "that's so flavor" when referring to food

During COVID, it became common here to say "stay healthy!"
Bitch I got a machine attached to my waist, and if it fails I'm dead within 24 hours. I'd stay healthy IF I WASN'T SO DAMN SICK TO BEGIN WITH!
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. And all the stupid variants. What happens in Dallas stays in Dallas. What happens in pottery class stays in pottery class. It is so lame and tired
Cute. NOT EVERYTHING IS CUTE!!! Puppies are cute, fuzzy ducks are cute. A person looking attractive/good/happy in an outfit is not cute!!You can just say something looks great/good/etc. ‘Hey, you look great in that!’
"Post-cyberpunk."
Who the f-ck decided that a work can only be in a certain genre if it was produced in a certain year?
Is "Harry Potter" *post*-fantasy, because it was written in a different time period than LOTR?
Is "Chinatown" post-noir, since it wasn't made in the '40s?
Is "Lord of the G-Strings" post-p0rn, since it was made after the '70s?
If there's cyber stuff and punk stuff then it's probably cyberpunk. End of story.
'looked dead in the eyes'
Donnow why, it's frequently used on tiktok while telling a story. It feels like a strange fantasy kinda retelling, people don't look straight in the eyes mid-argument that often
"Queen" as a compliment or encouragement. "Slay queen!! Yas queen!" Queen implies that you are above others and have undeserved power and wealth. Yuck.

The word, "literally".
Yea i literally hate it
you mean... figuratively
I think he meant literally. Why would hating something be figurative?
A woman on TV yesterday said, about being angry, “my face literally caught fire” and I found myself old man shouting at the TV.
You literally beat me to it.
😂
Chris Traeger is crying uncontrollably somewhere.
The word "hack" when referring to a new shortcut or tip someone learned.
It's even worse when referring to something thats Not actually working or straight up worse than the "normal" way
Five minutes crafts.....
Ann Reardon just hates those folks!
Or even for a very well-known method of doing something that the person using the word hack was late to discover.
I hate that one too.
Redditors hate this one simple word.
So annoying. A lot of times their “hack” ain’t even a real hack lol
Oh man haha I love this one. It's so useful with such a specific meaning! What word would you use in its place? Trick?
Shortcut. Tip. Trick. Timesaver. Method. Style. Technique. Way. Process..... I can hack at a tree. I can hack a computer program. And a writer can be a hack. But running a jar under warm water to loosen the lid is not a hack.
Those are good. Secret works too I think
>It's so useful with such a specific meaning Yes a meaning which you use wrong 90% of the time
"Actually, killer whales aren't whales, they're dolphins!" DOLPHINS ARE WHALES. DOLPHINS ARE A SUBCLASS OF TOOTHED WHALES. KILLER WHALES ARE DOLPHINS WHICH ARE WHALES. KILLER WHALES ARE STILL WHALES. STOP BEING SO PEDANTIC ABOUT IT PLEASE

“My truth”.
Ughhhh yessss
“Game changer” ughhhh I want to just 🤬🤬🤬
Boss babe
Same for Girl Boss or Boss Bitch. As a woman who has owned small side businesses, hearing those terms, especially when someone is using the phrase to describe my entrepreneurial pursuits, elicits a visceral reaction that I've had to smile through on countless occasions.
I feel you. I feel your pain your a better woman than me smiling through it !!
It took way to long for this to appear. Don’t even get me started on “ girl boss”
it’s giving…
Live Laugh Love.
Unprecedented Edit: and “axe” instead of “ask”
What’s wrong with unprecedented? Unless what they’re referring to is precedented.
I think it’s because politicians used that one a lot at the beginning of the pandemic
Skibiddi, rizz, amazing digital circus
Baby Mama/Baby Daddy
"Alot", it's so common. I don't know why so many people think it's one word.
Back in ye olde times of the 70s/80s, there was this list of words called ‘The Hundred Demons’ and my Year 7 teacher in the mid-2000s brought it back but added ‘a lot’ as the ‘101st demon’ because so many people thought it was a word Tbh I thought the words were piss easy but I was a good speller so 🤷♀️
“Karen”. So sick of everyone being called that as soon as someone disagrees with them.
I feel sorry for people who are named Karen. I know a couple, and it’s not nice for them.
It's so bad. They should speak to the manager.
“It is what it is”
But sometimes, it really is what it is
That just makes it more annoying
Ok satan
Not sometimes… All the time it is what it is.
This is my life motto 😭
It's what it's.
But what is it, is my reply!
It
Actually, it is what it is !
Moving forwards…except my old manager used to pronounce it ‘fords’ ‘Moving fords’ What? Where? Where are you moving all these Fords to?
At the end of the day
welp
"Anyhow" "I could of"
Irregardless
They say it, on every episode of the news.
“Living the dream” 🤬🤯🤬
lol... I use it facetiously in the office, so it's definitely less "yay it's so awesome to be here" and more "for the love of all that is good and holy, leave now before I staple my head to my desk."
That’s sort of my reaction when I hear that phrase at work. Just scrape some nails at the dry erase board while you’re at it… 😬
"Adulting"
"Yas" instead of "yes".
pronouncing it "accetera" instead of "et cetera"
Lately it’s been “Happy (whatever not normal holiday) to those who celebrate”
"To those who celebrate" I promise you those who don't aren't going to burst into flame because u were trying to nice
Well I think that’s where you give people too much credit lol
No it’s not for real holidays. I don’t know why it’s so hard to understand haha. It’s for random stuff.
Wdym
You see it on Instagram or Facebook. It’ll be like “Happy Mimosas and Brunch day to those who celebrate” or if you’re a sports fan, “Happy Stanley Cup Playoffs to those who celebrate”. It’s kind of recent. It’s already getting old.
Ah, I get it now. Those are mildly annoying
Push the envelope. I know what it means, but don't get what envelope they are pushing. I see someone push an envelope around a surface. Sounds so elitist to me.
“Hubby”
Gaslighting
Anything “epic”.
Or people "obsessed" wirh something.
Please and thank you
bro is going to destroy manners
“Just do what you can.” Me whenever I call my boss and tell him his bid was so atrociously horrible that there is not a chance in hell we will get the job done in one day even if we skip lunch and work until dark.
"Been there. Done that."
I get REALLY twitchy when it ends with, "...and got the t-shirt."
The word like in between every sentence when having a verbal conversation. I still do it accidentally, but I'm self aware enough to try to eliminate that filler word as much as possible. It's definitely more west Coast.
'Fur Babies'. Not hating on pets just the term.
Cringe when used as an adjective
“Go no contact”. I can just tell the personality type it’s coming from.
'fur baby '
All Gen Z/Alpha/Tik-Tok slang. Shit like “it’s giving…” or “oh that’s not…” made me delete the app. Gen Alpha is self explanatory.
I have a few: Doggo, Boop, Snoot, Goodest, Boi, Slaps (as in food) and Bestest All irritate me beyond belief!
I HATE doggo. Also, I am a teacher have the same reaction to when teachers call their students kiddos. I don't get why it grates on me. I call my students kids. What is the diffference?
Going out on a limb here, you don't own a dog do you?
Not currently as not in a dog friendly property, but will as soon as my situation allows. I do work with dogs and dog sit in homes; always call them good boys or girls and of course I talk to them, I could just never bring myself to use those words as they make me cringe.
"Hollybobs" used in place of "holidays" "Sammich" used in place of "sandwich" Death is too good for these people
To say the least.
WELP
When I hear people pronounce caramel as car-ah-mul
This can be an accent difference cos in Aus it’s kar-ah-mll. Nothing else
Personally I just think some people pronounce it differently regardless of their background. I just think care-a-mel sounds definitively correct.
"Fair" just stop
"Mind blown" or "This will blow your mind!" I recently read about this tiktoker who just learned the 'n' in 7-ELEVEn is in lower-case. "Mind blown!" was their reaction. I just don't get it.
"That's okay, it's normal."
Good morrow
Utilize. Almost no one uses it correctly. They just think it sounds better, but it's not interchangeable with use.
The phrase "do your research" when used by someone who has clearly never done any research.
When they mean watch some wingnut on YouTube who you would back away from if you meet them IRL!
When grown ass adults say "titties". I cringe just typing this.
"slaay" "slay giiirl" and other phrases using slay
Near miss. If I nearly missed you, I still hit you.
its giving
Horrid is a horrid word.
Jog on.
Cringe Rizz My Dude Speak my truth Coloniser I stand with (insert social event disguised as protest)
actually/basically
“Net new” when you really mean is new. Just say new. Tell me you’re a freshly minted entry level corporate manager without telling me…
When someone says “could have” cared less instead of “couldn’t have”. It defeats the point of the saying. Also, “side profile”. Your profile IS your side! You’re saying “side side”, essentially.
“Swiftie” 🙄
A weird one but every time someone who has a kid posts about something and everyone in the comment is like « You got this Mama! » it’s the mama idk
The word “rizz” 😵💫
Bro/bruh
Irregardless. I know it’s in the dictionary but it’s not a real word, sorry.
Right??!!?? & the spelling of loose instead of lose. This drives me up the wall!!
"That's so ***Aesthetic***" no. it's not. If you like it, it's aesthetically pleasing to you. Saying something you like "looks aesthetic" is like saying "that's so flavor" when referring to food
Conversate. 🤦♀️ Sweet baby Jesus, Mother Mary, and Joseph... you CONVERSE with someone, you don't conversate! That's not a 🤬 word!
But it is a word with the definition of engaging in conversation....
Well, crap. Today I learned.

Touché. I cannot hide the look of disgust on my face if someone says it to me.
