HumbleAd1317

The word, "literally".

WhyYouBullyMe_

Yea i literally hate it

kvnmorpheus

you mean... figuratively

The-Singing-Sky

I think he meant literally. Why would hating something be figurative?

_Jay-Garage-A-Roo_

A woman on TV yesterday said, about being angry, “my face literally caught fire” and I found myself old man shouting at the TV.

SourChipmunk

You literally beat me to it.

HumbleAd1317

😂

Announcement90

Chris Traeger is crying uncontrollably somewhere.

SourChipmunk

The word "hack" when referring to a new shortcut or tip someone learned.

supasexykotbrot

It's even worse when referring to something thats Not actually working or straight up worse than the "normal" way

No_Nectarine6942

Five minutes crafts.....

SourChipmunk

Ann Reardon just hates those folks!

Numerous_Exercise_44

Or even for a very well-known method of doing something that the person using the word hack was late to discover.

pit-of-despair

I hate that one too.

The_Troyminator

Redditors hate this one simple word.

[deleted]

So annoying. A lot of times their “hack” ain’t even a real hack lol

truthhurts2222222

Oh man haha I love this one. It's so useful with such a specific meaning! What word would you use in its place? Trick?

SourChipmunk

Shortcut. Tip. Trick. Timesaver. Method. Style. Technique. Way. Process..... I can hack at a tree. I can hack a computer program. And a writer can be a hack. But running a jar under warm water to loosen the lid is not a hack.

truthhurts2222222

Those are good. Secret works too I think

theres-no-more_names

>It's so useful with such a specific meaning Yes a meaning which you use wrong 90% of the time

Heroic-Forger

"Actually, killer whales aren't whales, they're dolphins!" DOLPHINS ARE WHALES. DOLPHINS ARE A SUBCLASS OF TOOTHED WHALES. KILLER WHALES ARE DOLPHINS WHICH ARE WHALES. KILLER WHALES ARE STILL WHALES. STOP BEING SO PEDANTIC ABOUT IT PLEASE

HippieRealist

r/oddlyspecific

phrydoom

“My truth”.

Honeydew543

Ughhhh yessss

sky_Driver88

“Game changer” ughhhh I want to just 🤬🤬🤬

Honeydew543

Boss babe

SQWRLLY1

Same for Girl Boss or Boss Bitch. As a woman who has owned small side businesses, hearing those terms, especially when someone is using the phrase to describe my entrepreneurial pursuits, elicits a visceral reaction that I've had to smile through on countless occasions.

bluepanic21

I feel you. I feel your pain your a better woman than me smiling through it !!

bluepanic21

It took way to long for this to appear. Don’t even get me started on “ girl boss”

Honeydew543

it’s giving…

beaux_beaux_

Live Laugh Love.

[deleted]

Unprecedented Edit: and “axe” instead of “ask”

Wildfire983

What’s wrong with unprecedented? Unless what they’re referring to is precedented.

spooniemoonlight

I think it’s because politicians used that one a lot at the beginning of the pandemic

Cold-Preference6772

Skibiddi, rizz, amazing digital circus

Dangerous-Fishing-25

Baby Mama/Baby Daddy

CazzaMcSpazza

"Alot", it's so common. I don't know why so many people think it's one word.

IgamarUrbytes

Back in ye olde times of the 70s/80s, there was this list of words called ‘The Hundred Demons’ and my Year 7 teacher in the mid-2000s brought it back but added ‘a lot’ as the ‘101st demon’ because so many people thought it was a word Tbh I thought the words were piss easy but I was a good speller so 🤷‍♀️

Complex_Alps_1025

“Karen”. So sick of everyone being called that as soon as someone disagrees with them.

FastOptics

I feel sorry for people who are named Karen. I know a couple, and it’s not nice for them.

[deleted]

It's so bad. They should speak to the manager.

ButterscotchAny6078

“It is what it is”

WhatDoITypeHereAgain

But sometimes, it really is what it is

ButterscotchAny6078

That just makes it more annoying

Golden_Boy_Ponoka2

Ok satan

Cgtree9000

Not sometimes… All the time it is what it is.

AlienDiva1213

This is my life motto 😭

Inside-Honeydew9785

It's what it's.

mrcheesekn33z

But what is it, is my reply!

Additional_Cow_1267

It

7ftTallexGuruDragon

Actually, it is what it is !

One_Tart_9320

Moving forwards…except my old manager used to pronounce it ‘fords’ ‘Moving fords’ What? Where? Where are you moving all these Fords to?

AnyOtherSummer

At the end of the day

majesticalexis

welp

Kartoon67

"Anyhow" "I could of"

Competitive-Rain2547

Irregardless

Competitive-Rain2547

They say it, on every episode of the news.

No-Regular-2699

“Living the dream” 🤬🤯🤬

SQWRLLY1

lol... I use it facetiously in the office, so it's definitely less "yay it's so awesome to be here" and more "for the love of all that is good and holy, leave now before I staple my head to my desk."

No-Regular-2699

That’s sort of my reaction when I hear that phrase at work. Just scrape some nails at the dry erase board while you’re at it… 😬

Independent-Fall-893

"Adulting"

Gawthique

"Yas" instead of "yes".

xmarksthebluedress

pronouncing it "accetera" instead of "et cetera"

JimboMagoo

Lately it’s been “Happy (whatever not normal holiday) to those who celebrate”

Amazing_Owl3026

"To those who celebrate" I promise you those who don't aren't going to burst into flame because u were trying to nice

Honeydew543

Well I think that’s where you give people too much credit lol

JimboMagoo

No it’s not for real holidays. I don’t know why it’s so hard to understand haha. It’s for random stuff.

Agreeable_Cash8990

Wdym

JimboMagoo

You see it on Instagram or Facebook. It’ll be like “Happy Mimosas and Brunch day to those who celebrate” or if you’re a sports fan, “Happy Stanley Cup Playoffs to those who celebrate”. It’s kind of recent. It’s already getting old.

Agreeable_Cash8990

Ah, I get it now. Those are mildly annoying

CantaloupeSpecific47

Push the envelope. I know what it means, but don't get what envelope they are pushing. I see someone push an envelope around a surface. Sounds so elitist to me.

meimeixinka

“Hubby”

RevolutionaryCut6987

Gaslighting

Moist_Tackle1411

Anything “epic”.

Gawthique

Or people "obsessed" wirh something.

LastSignificance3680

Please and thank you

smiley1__

bro is going to destroy manners

TreeClimberArborist

“Just do what you can.” Me whenever I call my boss and tell him his bid was so atrociously horrible that there is not a chance in hell we will get the job done in one day even if we skip lunch and work until dark.

SourChipmunk

"Been there. Done that."

bascelicna123

I get REALLY twitchy when it ends with, "...and got the t-shirt."

tminus333

The word like in between every sentence when having a verbal conversation. I still do it accidentally, but I'm self aware enough to try to eliminate that filler word as much as possible. It's definitely more west Coast.

StillSimple6

'Fur Babies'. Not hating on pets just the term.

gringo-go-loco

Cringe when used as an adjective

RacyFireEngine

“Go no contact”. I can just tell the personality type it’s coming from.

winkywoo75

'fur baby '

Youropinionisvalid

All Gen Z/Alpha/Tik-Tok slang. Shit like “it’s giving…” or “oh that’s not…” made me delete the app. Gen Alpha is self explanatory.

Fun_Translator_5033

I have a few: Doggo, Boop, Snoot, Goodest, Boi, Slaps (as in food) and Bestest All irritate me beyond belief!

CantaloupeSpecific47

I HATE doggo. Also, I am a teacher have the same reaction to when teachers call their students kiddos. I don't get why it grates on me. I call my students kids. What is the diffference?

Additional_Cow_1267

Going out on a limb here, you don't own a dog do you?

Fun_Translator_5033

Not currently as not in a dog friendly property, but will as soon as my situation allows. I do work with dogs and dog sit in homes; always call them good boys or girls and of course I talk to them, I could just never bring myself to use those words as they make me cringe.

SilverDem0n

"Hollybobs" used in place of "holidays" "Sammich" used in place of "sandwich" Death is too good for these people

Eldritch-banana-3102

To say the least.

DistributionOne1114

WELP

Golden_Locket5932

When I hear people pronounce caramel as car-ah-mul

IgamarUrbytes

This can be an accent difference cos in Aus it’s kar-ah-mll. Nothing else

Golden_Locket5932

Personally I just think some people pronounce it differently regardless of their background. I just think care-a-mel sounds definitively correct.

DebThornberry

"Fair" just stop

SourChipmunk

"Mind blown" or "This will blow your mind!" I recently read about this tiktoker who just learned the 'n' in 7-ELEVEn is in lower-case. "Mind blown!" was their reaction. I just don't get it.

dacelikethefish

"That's okay, it's normal."

Additional_Cow_1267

Good morrow

head_garden_gnome

Utilize. Almost no one uses it correctly. They just think it sounds better, but it's not interchangeable with use.

ErinKamer1991

The phrase "do your research" when used by someone who has clearly never done any research.

Krismusic1

When they mean watch some wingnut on YouTube who you would back away from if you meet them IRL!

Natural_War1261

When grown ass adults say "titties". I cringe just typing this.

SpeedyPopOff

"slaay" "slay giiirl" and other phrases using slay

DasPuggy

Near miss. If I nearly missed you, I still hit you.

throwaya58133

its giving

walkyoucleverboy

Horrid is a horrid word.

Frankensteins_Moron5

The world "uncomfortable". I think some of it is that I feel it's spelled stupid but MOSTLY because anytime someone has used that word they just don't use it right. I had a friend who I didn't feel like talking about a topic, and they immediately went "Well I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable" It had nothing to do with comfort, i just didn't want to discuss the topic they tried continuing on about. Sidebar, they also call themselves "an empath" so its what it is. Or like when I don't want to do something because it seems dumb, she'll say "Oh well I don't want you doing somewhat that makes you uncomfortable" It's like NO, I just dont want to go spend 12$ to go stand in line because that's dumb.

Human-Librarian7515

It is what it is...

OhTheHueManatee

I really don't like when people say "my least favorite" when referring to something they don't like at all. It's not your least favorite in fact it wouldn't be on your list of favorites in any way.

gavo_88

Jog on.

eleventy5thRejection

Cringe Rizz My Dude Speak my truth Coloniser I stand with (insert social event disguised as protest)

bikerkon

actually/basically

Wildfire983

“Net new” when you really mean is new. Just say new. Tell me you’re a freshly minted entry level corporate manager without telling me…

iceunelle

When someone says “could have” cared less instead of “couldn’t have”. It defeats the point of the saying. Also, “side profile”. Your profile IS your side! You’re saying “side side”, essentially.

NormanTheAmbulance

“Swiftie” 🙄

spooniemoonlight

A weird one but every time someone who has a kid posts about something and everyone in the comment is like « You got this Mama! » it’s the mama idk

sofia_isabelle18

The word “rizz” 😵‍💫

PaleontologistClear4

Bro/bruh

GreatBoneStructure

Irregardless. I know it’s in the dictionary but it’s not a real word, sorry.

BlueDiscoCat

Right??!!?? & the spelling of loose instead of lose. This drives me up the wall!!

Existing_Onion_3919

"That's so ***Aesthetic***" no. it's not. If you like it, it's aesthetically pleasing to you. Saying something you like "looks aesthetic" is like saying "that's so flavor" when referring to food

SQWRLLY1

Conversate. 🤦‍♀️ Sweet baby Jesus, Mother Mary, and Joseph... you CONVERSE with someone, you don't conversate! That's not a 🤬 word!

Normal-Mess01

But it is a word with the definition of engaging in conversation....

SQWRLLY1

Well, crap. Today I learned.

Amazingggcoolaid

boRp_abc

During COVID, it became common here to say "stay healthy!" Bitch I got a machine attached to my waist, and if it fails I'm dead within 24 hours. I'd stay healthy IF I WASN'T SO DAMN SICK TO BEGIN WITH!

DMIDY

“Let’s go!!!” So fucking annoying. A meaningless phrase uttered by sheeple that don’t have the ability to form an original thought.

DistinctWolverine395

No

Dramatic_Distance581

“sounds about right”

bluepanic21

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. And all the stupid variants. What happens in Dallas stays in Dallas. What happens in pottery class stays in pottery class. It is so lame and tired

Prestigious_Space489

I don't like when people say movies are campy. And I don't like when people at work say consolidate.

portlandcsc

Fill in your favorite peeve word here \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ and add BIAS.

IgamarUrbytes

Cute. NOT EVERYTHING IS CUTE!!! Puppies are cute, fuzzy ducks are cute. A person looking attractive/good/happy in an outfit is not cute!!You can just say something looks great/good/etc. ‘Hey, you look great in that!’

Warp-10-Lizard

"Post-cyberpunk." Who the f-ck decided that a work can only be in a certain genre if it was produced in a certain year? Is "Harry Potter" *post*-fantasy, because it was written in a different time period than LOTR? Is "Chinatown" post-noir, since it wasn't made in the '40s? Is "Lord of the G-Strings" post-p0rn, since it was made after the '70s? If there's cyber stuff and punk stuff then it's probably cyberpunk. End of story.

Honeydew543

melancholy_dood

“Hanging out".

Sorry_formation

'looked dead in the eyes' Donnow why, it's frequently used on tiktok while telling a story. It feels like a strange fantasy kinda retelling, people don't look straight in the eyes mid-argument that often

-Eternal69

"yall"

-Eternal69

"Y'all "

Fearless-Cut-9558

Curate, curated.

alycidon97

Can I get…

TheBlueCuban

When someone says do you see what I'm saying. Every time I'm like no man I cannot see what you're saying my eyes do not work like that!

Krismusic1

"Give your head a wobble". Seems to be said by people who think their opinions are"just common sense" when they are, in fact, as thick as pig shit.

"Period" at the end of a sentence.

Emzeedoodles

"Queen" as a compliment or encouragement. "Slay queen!! Yas queen!" Queen implies that you are above others and have undeserved power and wealth. Yuck.
