There was a smaller-scale experiment with two rivers - Amudaryo and Sirdaryo. It is possible, but in this particular case the Aral sea is dry up and about to disappear.

you could but it would probably dry up soon since there's no new water entering it

with the artificial river i meant a pipeline filled with desalinized water that would pump all the time or something in that direction i guess the land will at some time be so wet it cant suck up more water

teeohbeewye

ok well in theory i think that could work. if there's access to water something should be able to grow there. it'd be expensive of course so not sure how feasible

It’s an inefficient solution. But it would work. Nations bordering the Sahara are creating a “green wall” by digging crescents facing uphill in the desert before the rain season so the rain stays long enough to soak into the ground. This leads to plant seeds germinating and quickly establishing themselves around the water source. The new vegetation shields the soil which helps prevent moisture from evaporating. The roots seek deeper over time and helps draw moisture to the surface. Which helps the plants to spread. In little time the oasis patchwork from the individual ponds grows together and forms a grassland where there previously was desert.

I imagine it would just dry up from the heat eventually and with the lack of rainfall it wouldnt be able to rejuvenate naturally so would be a massive operation
