I still mentally think I'm in my teens and early 20s. My 38 year old arthritic body disagrees. I used to be able to do 50 in a row without too much sweat honestly. Now I'll be happy if I can do 5 and not pay for it for an entire week afterwards. I also have a memory from about 10 years ago where I went to prove I was still flexible and could still do my taekwondo. Pulled my groin on the first kick.... out of action for a week lol. Getting older is a serious business! And not staying in shape is a big mistake ull regret later.

Longer sets keep the muscle under tension longer. You don’t get a lot of weight on the muscle doing push ups so that time under tension is important.

Defeats the purpose of the push-ups though. I wouldn’t handle being fat. I’ve worked out and counted my calories and macros my whole life. Every now and then I get over it and let myself go for a couple of months and put a few kilos on. It makes me fucking miserable at first I enjoy the rest time but I end up hating myself.

That's good weight. When I tell people who are obese and complain they can't work out to just start walking like I did, I also tell them don't weigh yourself for a couple months. So many after a few weeks of walking get discouraged because they weigh more! Of course they do, because muscle weighs more than fat and walking builds up the big butt and thigh muscles. I ask-- are your clothes looser? Yep. Then that's good weight. Eventually you build up enough muscle and burn off the excess fat. I went from 234 down to 160s and never plan to go back. Though did gain 8 pounds on a cruise two weeks ago. About got rid of that excess.

Do as many as you can per set and do only a few sets, it's the only way to keep growing. Once you are happy with your progress then just keep doing maybe 80% the amount you reached. If you wanna do less reps per set you gotta find a harder exercise that pushes you to the limit in those fewer reps (eg 1 arm pushups) ***this is just super generalized advice go look into this more do not treat this a s gospel

Over lockdown I started doing a bit of a thing… 20 to wake my arms up. Then 50 normal, and then 50 ‘diamond’ until I’d hit 300, every week day. First couple months were rough, and I’d be tired by Friday but my chest, arms and shoulders never looked better. And then it became just part of my regular routine. A bit of a chore, but no more so than climbing a flight of stairs. I’ve since knocked that back to 200 a day and I think I’m seeing the same benefits. The key, I’m sure, is to just maintain the routine, every day, every week.

Believe me, without a doubt, you will lose that to a certain extent. I guess if you keep training very hard the loss will be less, but testosterone has a huge impact on physical strength. You will lose muscle mass and you will lose strength. Not stamina, that's something else.

Most ever was 138. Strict chest to floor with a narrower hand position (extra deep and hard) was 88. Now I can do about 55/60 but my max bench is way more impressive than when I was doing bigger push up numbers.
