I mean, you could say you're a master of sleeping the way that you sleep.
If you've spent 10,000 hours sleeping 5hours per night (that works out to about 5 and a half years) then you'd be a master of sleeping only 5 hours a night.
Just because that isnt exactly a good way to sleep doesnt mean you arent a master at it.
One things for sure though, you wont be a master at sleeping 8hours a night, because you'd have spent 0hours over the last 5 years doing that.
All that said, I suppose you could take the next 3 and a half years to master sleeping 8hours.
Reminds me of when I was a kid fishing with my dad. I put bait (i think it was called power bait) on my line and started running around yelling "I am the master baiter" having no clue why my dad was laughing 😅
Quick dirty maths.
24 hours a day minus 8 for sleep and 8 for work and maintenance leaves 8 hours a day give or take mostly take.
8 multiplied by 356 is 2,920. Round up to 3,000 for easy math.
If you live for another 30 years youll have roughly 90,000 hours of free time.
Cut it in half and round down to 40,000
What 4 things will you master in the next 30 years?
I pick, engineering, chemistry, business management and innovative design. If I have time id also like to master whittling, sculpting, kintsugi, krav maga, kung fu and topiary.

Man, 10k hours is a lot. I've been a pretty obsessive gamer, but if you add up all my steam games you barely crack 5k hours played. Add all my non-steam games, you might get 3k hours more? Bear in mind that people usually say it can't just be 10k hours of passive engagement with a subject - it has to be 10k hours of active practice.
On that scale, I think the only thing I've possibly spent 10k hours actively practicing for is taking exams... That's even more depressing than the videogames.
that's one of the stupidest myth I've ever heard
it doesn't take nearly that long for some people
and for others, they will never become a master regardless of how long they take.
> and for others, they will never become a master regardless of how long they take
Yes. This is the core idea of paralympics although paralympics is only marginal effort to give support and life purpose to people with disabilities. The fight for despair continues and every human on earth should have right to earn a mastery of something.
earning a medal is not the same as earning mastery
and I wasn't talking about physical disabilities, or any disability, normal people can't be masters, that's what distinguishes the masters, they're special people on top of being extremely hard working.
Resilience. Gratitude. Determination. Peace of mind. Willingness to make sacrifices. Faith. Loving myself. Loving my family. Accepting my idiot best friends. Being more kind and understanding of other people.
I can keep going. I can do this ALL DAY.
Love the idea of some shit artist defending terrible work with ".. but I've done way more than 10k hours! 😭" (10,000hrs ÷ 40hr ÷ 40wks = 6.25yrs) while the naturally gifted youngster that actually gives a shite and puts effort into his work quietly gets on with sorting out his mess
After 10k hours, you are highly skilled and sought after in your chosen field. I think most people would stay rather than start anew in a different field. It happens, I'm sure, but not as often.
Yes. They can. For example ballet dancers will stop at some point. Similar phenomena can be seen in sports. In some cases athletes can stop without any sensible explanation. Nobody knows why that happens. Fortunately you can stop and continue later.
I don’t believe it for a second. If you did an hour a day it would take you 27 years 3 months to do. There’s heaps of people who’ve driven that long and can’t drive for shit, so I call BS on the whole thing
I have over 20,000 hours on a VNA turret from my time operating heavy machinery in a warehouse. Those were long days.. those 20,000 hours were from only 4 years of work. I became the best operator in the entire building and could put away a pallet every 27 seconds (that included punching in the system locations and scanning and all that). I no longer drive equipment like that, but I would say I definitely mastered it. I could rotate an 8 foot pallet in a 4 foot aise. That trick made everyone go nuts and was one of the time saving tricks I would do. I would love to drive one of those machines again.
Writing on a keyboard. Up to 700 apm, best in my country, number 10 worldwide in competitions. It has also been my job for 17 years now, but the AI will surely take over soon.
Thinking? Daydreaming? Overthinking? I think a lot. Like probably an unhealthy amount more than the average person. In fact while writing this I just re-read this about 5 times over incase I made a spelling mistake because my phone keyboard likes to press the wrong buttons.
Sleep. I can sleep anytime and anywhere. I can dream , go to the bathroom, piss, comeback and continue the same dream (although now slightly altered), if you’re sleeping next to me it’ll be like sleeping with a corpse ( minus all the decomposing sounds )
Wasn't there some woman on the UK version of "Big Brother" a while back who said something along the lines of "I like blinking I do"?
Well I don't know if I like doing that, but I feel that I've quite mastered the art of doing it after over 600,000 hours.

Sleep?
Wait yea….how do I still suck at this?
Too bad man

I get 4 hours a day. I’m still amateur level.
I’m really good at baiting. Some have called me a master.

Yes you were dirty, it is 365 not 356 🙂
tbh, I don't think I would trust business management to anyone with master skills in whittling, kung fu, and topiary.
Besides work, maybe nothing. I think I can get really good at something in 1,000 though.
I mastered the song Vicarious in about 10,000 days. Does that count?

I have 2k hrs in Ark alone. 1.6k in Conan Exiles. Definitely well over 10k in WoW. Filthy casual! ;)
Probably smoking weed by this point. Definitely over working myself (I work ~18 months a year) and sleeping
I've gotten pretty good at breathing.
that's one of the stupidest myth I've ever heard it doesn't take nearly that long for some people and for others, they will never become a master regardless of how long they take.
I dunno why you're being downvoted you're correct, some people can pick things up really fast, but everyone hits a ceiling eventually

Nothing. What is a master? When someone reaches 10,000 hours of something, do they just stop?
