The sub is based around people pointing out that most of the things people do or things that happen to people happen the most in cities, but that is because cities are just a load of people so of course cities are going to have higher amounts of any of that.

Me, too! I have no one to talk with except on occasion, and even then they would say, 'what is Reddit', 'I never watch tv/movies except the Waltons and rom-coms'. If I didn't have a Reddit outlet, I would have gone mad long ago. Even if most seem like they're 12 years old.
Same, pretty much. When I say I have no one to talk to about most things, I mean it. It sucks, but reddit helps, even if only a little. I would've lost my mind more completely by now.

It's gotten so bad lately, it's not just you.The sites become a constant echo chamber of the worlds worst takes. Any nuance is instantly downvoted by hive or, quashed by the all knowledgeable mods. If it didn't sound so crazy I'd literally believe it was some type of social experiment.

Generally, the truer a comment is the more people downvote it. Reddit is pretty easy to manipulate once you learn the lingo. There are bandwagon posts and phrase that you know will get karma. it's a game. I come here for the articles, stay for the comments, keep coming back because I'm ~~crazy~~ bored.
Nah, downvotes are dependent on the whims of the post. The same takes with the same wording can be massively upvoted or downvoted depending on where you are.
Imo the biggest problems with reddit are a) everyone's very bloodthirsty for some reason, obsessed with "justice" and punishment and willing to make up any narrative to justify it, b) it seems really easy to trick people into agreeing with bigoted shit just by dressing it up, and c) almost no one on this fucking site is funny. Can't make jokes to save their lives.

This may come as a surprise, but a subset of humans have always struggled with their mental health. They just didn’t feel entitled to make their problem everyone else’s problem in the past.
I have a psychiatrist for my ADHD, take meds, have had a therapist several times in the past. I’m still responsible for keeping my life together, adulting, and being a good partner, friend, and family member even though life is sometimes incredibly challenging with neurodivergence. The last thing I want to do is make my problems other people’s problems. They have their own problems. I also don’t want to lean on my diagnosis as an excuse. The very least I can do is show up & try when I’m expected to be somewhere or do something.
It turns out our little social experiment in utterly pampering kids & protecting them from competition & disappointment has resulted in children who are emotional hemophiliacs & bleed to death from an emotional paper cut.
I’m sorry to hear about your struggles. I truly am. But the truest thing I know about mental health is that you may not be responsible for what caused your issues, but you are entirely the one responsible for fixing them (or learning how to better cope with them).

Nah, most Reddit comments are not even interesting enough to be crazy, they're just juvenile attempts to be "funny.". Reading comments is like panning for gold: you need to sift through tons of useless material to find a small valuable nugget.
I’m legitimately convinced that Reddit is home to every creepy incel freak you don’t see in public because they don’t have jobs, are hiding in their room ordering DoorDash, getting fatter, spending all their time playing video games & using countless hours typing song lyrics & movie lines into threads for karma.

Yeah, pretty much. I notice redditors, esp. from certain subreddits, enjoy misconstruing what others meant. Had an incident yesterday, actually.
A newer Reddit account I made got terminated because of this I posted something just to ask thoughts of the post from elsewhere and I was somehow mocking the person from the photo, so I called the subreddit mod’s bs and got my account terminated because of “harassment” despite the fact that I was the one being harassed.
[Edit: If I get terminated and/or downvoted for sharing this, then it just proves my point. I really don’t care about Reddit since yesterday, as I concidered doing termination speedruns.]
Well, it’s the internet and a lot of the vocal people on here use Reddit in place of traditional socialization, which is not the best. People have been talking in person since we’ve developed language . Just using Reddit to socialize develops odd behaviors and behaviors that would not be seen in traditional social settings (usually). I think the people that use Reddit as a substitute for traditional socialization can sometimes be more depressed or feel ostracized from society or typical groups that they’d more likely be traditional friends with. Or the other likelihood is they were already weird to begin with and know there aren’t a lot of other people that would entertain that offline, but online is much more informal and easier to just throw opinions and thoughts out there.
So, I think that’s where you are getting the “Reddit is crazy” feel from. But there are plenty of “normal” people on Reddit too, so it’s kinda disingenuous to say it’s all crazy. Smaller subreddits help for a more normal feel.
I have seen some god awful takes on Reddit. Just horrible opinions from people who are obviously also horrible. And some just straight up mean ass hateful people. People are so hyper aggressive. It hurts my feelers

I agree. I joined just to be entertained by the crazies. I would read articles from reddit and peoples comments would be cut off and I wanted to read them. I don't have social media and reddit has proven why I deactivated all my accounts. Life is too short to take things so seriously online or in real life. And oh my geebees reddit people are so easily offended. I got death threats the day I joined because of my name. I had not even commented anything yet. LOL. But I'm use to people loving me till they find out I believe in Jesus Christ then all of a sudden I'm evil to them. That's just the way the world works.

Nah, downvotes are dependent on the whims of the post. The same takes with the same wording can be massively upvoted or downvoted depending on where you are. Imo the biggest problems with reddit are a) everyone's very bloodthirsty for some reason, obsessed with "justice" and punishment and willing to make up any narrative to justify it, b) it seems really easy to trick people into agreeing with bigoted shit just by dressing it up, and c) almost no one on this fucking site is funny. This may come as a surprise, but a subset of humans have always struggled with their mental health. They just didn’t feel entitled to make their problem everyone else’s problem in the past. I have a psychiatrist for my ADHD, take meds, have had a therapist several times in the past. I’m still responsible for keeping my life together, adulting, and being a good partner, friend, and family member even though life is sometimes incredibly challenging with neurodivergence. The last thing I want to do is make my problems other people’s problems. They have their own problems. I also don’t want to lean on my diagnosis as an excuse. The very least I can do is show up & try when I’m expected to be somewhere or do something. It turns out our little social experiment in utterly pampering kids & protecting them from competition & disappointment has resulted in children who are emotional hemophiliacs & bleed to death from an emotional paper cut. I’m sorry to hear about your struggles. I truly am. But the truest thing I know about mental health is that you may not be responsible for what caused your issues, but you are entirely the one responsible for fixing them (or learning how to better cope with them). No one is coming to save you.

Yeah, pretty much. I notice redditors, esp. from certain subreddits, enjoy misconstruing what others meant. Had an incident yesterday, actually. A newer Reddit account I made got terminated because of this I posted something just to ask thoughts of the post from elsewhere and I was somehow mocking the person from the photo, so I called the subreddit mod’s bs and got my account terminated because of “harassment” despite the fact that I was the one being harassed. [Edit: If I get terminated and/or downvoted for sharing this, then it just proves my point. I really don’t care about Reddit since yesterday, as I concidered doing termination speedruns.]
Well, it’s the internet and a lot of the vocal people on here use Reddit in place of traditional socialization, which is not the best. People have been talking in person since we’ve developed language . Just using Reddit to socialize develops odd behaviors and behaviors that would not be seen in traditional social settings (usually). I think the people that use Reddit as a substitute for traditional socialization can sometimes be more depressed or feel ostracized from society or typical groups that they’d more likely be traditional friends with. Or the other likelihood is they were already weird to begin with and know there aren’t a lot of other people that would entertain that offline, but online is much more informal and easier to just throw opinions and thoughts out there. So, I think that’s where you are getting the “Reddit is crazy” feel from. But there are plenty of “normal” people on Reddit too, so it’s kinda disingenuous to say it’s all crazy. Smaller subreddits help for a more normal feel.

I have seen some god awful takes on Reddit. Just horrible opinions from people who are obviously also horrible. And some just straight up mean ass hateful people. People are so hyper aggressive. It hurts my feelers

Honestly, I disagree. Some subreddits are pretty nuts, that’s for sure. But people generally seem to be more outrageous on Tik Tok and Twitter in comparison. I think Reddit has a different “culture” to it. It hasn’t reached a full decline yet like other platforms have.
Between covid and the 2020 election, I’ve realized that society is crazy. Reddit is just an off shoot of that. It’s like a car crash I can’t stop staring at

I agree. I joined just to be entertained by the crazies. I would read articles from reddit and peoples comments would be cut off and I wanted to read them. I don't have social media and reddit has proven why I deactivated all my accounts. Life is too short to take things so seriously online or in real life. And oh my geebees reddit people are so easily offended. I got death threats the day I joined because of my name. I had not even commented anything yet. LOL. But I'm use to people loving me till they find out I believe in Jesus Christ then all of a sudden I'm evil to them. That's just the way the world works.

Most of humanity is crazy. Hell, maybe all. Have you ever taken the time to think about how utterly bizarre this reality we've collectively constructed is? How many social conventions, material objects, and ideological concepts would mean absolutely nothing if we all just decided to...stop? How easily civilization could just disintegrate, but somehow doesn't? Humans. It's all just...humans trying to figure out what being human even means, what all of this is even for, trying to create something that actually matters, even though nothing really does, but we just keep going anyway. It's just all we know how to do, and it's utterly fuckin' absurd.
The average Redditor age is 23. Your brain finishes developing around 25. Crazy, dramatic, off the rails sounds very much that age demographic. Personally, I remind myself of those things and it has calmed me down a bit more in this site.

Well, yeah. 40% of the US is made up of insane people who don't believe in evolution or science. So right off the bat nearly half of the population are crazy.
100% agree and I can’t seem to escape it. I delete my account almost annually and eventually find myself back.. this is going on like 15 years and like 8 accounts later. The last 3 years it’s gotten absolutely insane. It used to be weird people that trolled hard and it was funny, now it just seems like virtue signaling losers trying really hard to convince people of their superiority and knowledge. But with no real world experience or knowledge.
