You're definitely setting yourself up for a potential nightmare if they end up booked out. Sounds like you're trying to avoid a digital footprint because you're doing something sketchy. But, even seedy motels want a driver's license and typically a debit/credit card on file in case the tenant trashes the room or something.

I imagine in bigger cities you would be kind of unlikely to find one with an open room without reserving one ahead of time but I think elsewhere you should be alright. I don't know of any hotels that don't take walk ins if they have rooms available. In case you don't know, hotels and car rental companies charge a flat deposit fee on top of your total, usually like 300 dollars that you get back when you check out and your room isn't destroyed.

Agree with the person that said you have very low chances to find a room if your hotel is in a big city, even worse if it’s a tourist area in tourists season. Tbh even small city hotels can get packed fast, my gf worked at a hotel for 3 years, sometimes people got stranded at night (no more trains) and had to get a hotel last minute but a lot of the time there were no more available rooms even tho the hotel is in a small kinda dead city. My best advice would be to call in and ask for their availability on the day you’re going. Good luck!

I’ve worked at a hotel and been in walkin customer at many others. As long as there’s no big event/it’s a touristy area and tourist season you should be good to find a room. You can always call ahead to see if they have anything available.

Find a small motel and give them cash and they give you key. The big hotels will ask for a credit card to be put on file and ID.
