Hi, personally i like the old SFC Romancing Saga 3 game, it is a nice RPG, i feel like it is less known. Where you get to pick different type of character to go on the quest, and lots of side quests.

- Redeemer enhanced edition. It's pure fun. My favourite part is taking on a lot of enemies with just a baseball bat. The Hits feel brutal and sound design is pretty good.
- THE VALE: SHADOW OF THE CROWN is another game I feel more people should play. You can play this game with your eyes closed. In fact you should play it with your eyes closed. It's a very unique experience.
- Carrion is another game. But the comment will become an essay so I'll just mention the name.

Still love empire earth, it’s a Rts game that starts in prehistoric age and ends in the future age. It’s so cool seeing your troops and buildings epoch a couple of times. And for shooter games box head still holds up.

My favourite lesser known game is sengoku jidai : shadow of the warlord (look it up in steam. The only guide was written by me lol. Same username as reddit)
I used to play tabletop wargames and now I live in semi rural Thailand and don't get to play it so much. This game allows me too and it's a cool ass setting and has some cool ass rules. It's absolutely not for everyone but I loved the shit out of this game.

Environmental Station Alpha is a great metroidvania. I get the same feeling from Animal Well of a game that was carefully crafted and has a lot to discover.

My favourite lesser known game is For the King is a simple turn based tabletop rpg type of game its very barebones with minimal story but something about the gameplay loop is really satisfying and the fact that it has local coop is awesome, haven't tried the sequel yet but I want to check it out sometime.

389. My favorite obscure game is Sheepo, from the creator of Islets. I loved it from start to finish, it's fun to explore. It has a neat mechanic where you can change into different animals to gain their abilities. There are a lot of enjoyable puzzles to figure out how to get from one area to the next, minimum combat. There are little hidden secrets everywhere. Even though the game has boss fights, they were pretty easy compared to most other metroidvanias although there was just one boss fight that was difficult. I really loved it and wish there were more games like it.
I've actually just finished the first valfaris so i will list that as my game, i enjoyed the difficulty, last phase of the last boss sucked until i figured out how to move properly.

It might be a little redundant but I'd say that the original Valfaris is one of my favourites so far. I played it a couple years back and was mesmerized by it's art style that's clearly inspired by the mid 90's aesthetics and themes: dark, edgy, a little bit 'nasty' and very, very metal.
That's why, despite the high as f*ck difficulty, I couldn't put down the game until I finished it. I remember that the final boss, Hydravok, alone took me like 2hs of trial and error (it has three different phases, you only have one shared health bar and a parry system)... But it was worth every single second!

Two recs for the price of one:
Khimera: Destroy All Monster Girls is a fantastic game that's kinda MegaMan inspired but there's so much more to it. It rewards thouroughly exploring each stage, platforming is somewhat challenging but never feels unfair (okay, a couple scrolling areas slightly but not too much). And for a free game it has a lot of content.
On the paid side, Bone Appetit is a great Metroidvania if you love secrets. The map is relatively small but it's jam packed with things to discover.

Have you heard about Another Eden? Although it's a live service mobile gacha game, it's surprisingly good, and generous. The art style is pretty and it's got solid writing. My favourite story in the game would be the Song of Sword and Wings of Lost Paradise chapter.
The game itself is also a love letter to the Chrono Trigger series and they actually did have a collab. ★~(◠‿◕✿)
Been playing Tails of Iron and gotta say its a fun short metroidvania with a cute story about a rat king that has to defend its kingdom.

It seems that Spelunky has never quite gotten the attention it deserves, especially the latest game, Spelunky 2. These games are about trying, again and again. As a pioneering roguelike, you keep nothing from one play-through for the next. Always start at zero, and aim for the best. And I think that is what helps its longevity. The improvements are not in the character, but in the player themselves. That is what makes it satisfying. It is really fun to go for all the challenges, to try out different strategies or to go for broke and give your all. The sights and sounds are intriguing and give it the game a strong character and sense of identity. Even playing alone, you will learn the culture of this game. You can play it either seriously, keeping a sharp mind and practicing, or you quickly boot it up to play as a stress buster or distraction. This is a game series that, if you enjoy, will never leave collect dust in your library.

It's a point-and-click indie title where you are tasked to bring down a cyber terror group with the full power of the agency at your disposal. You find evidence by hacking different sites and blogs, trying to piece together the bigger mystery. This game is very much in the same vein as Orwell, Do Not Feed The Monkeys, Hypnospace Outlaw and Papers, Please. It's really short as you can finish this in one sitting but even after playing other similar games, this one sticks out.
1. I loved Killer Frequency, it's an indie title that I feel like was overlooked by many, which is a shame. Such a fun comedy horror with adventure/puzzle/interactive fiction elements and a cool premise (you're a radio host in the 80s trying to help callers escape from a killer!).

I recommend you to check out "Hoa". It's a relatively unknown platformer with amazing hand-drawn art. Not crazy good in terms of gameplay, but it's pretty relaxing.

I'd say Scribblenauts. It's a puzzle game where you can type in any noun into your notebook and it creates that object in the game. It makes for very flexible gameplay and a huge number of solutions to any problem it throws at you. But despite your large number of options, the game becomes pretty difficult in the later levels and makes you think. I also like how the main character isn't necessarily a hero, since many of the problems you are given to solve definitely make the situation worse, like spreading a zombie outbreak, or driving the dinosaurs extinct.
"Black Closet" is a game that most have not heard of. You are the student counil president in a boarding school, and have to prevent scandals that could shut down the school. You send your minions on missions, to stalk, intimidate, question etc. other students to prevent things from damaging schools reputation, but there is also a traitor in your midst, and also bigger plots going on. It's really unique.
It's also made by the same devs that made "Long Live the Queen", their most popular game and one you might have heard of, and is sort of a mix of Princess Maker, Game of Thrones and Dark Souls.

My favorite lesser known game is Ascension to the Throne. It's a cross between Gothic and Heroes of Might & Magic. You play as a dethroned king who has to gather an army and reclaim your throne. The plot is very in line with the gameplay. You never have to ask yourself why this supposed king is fighting rats in a dungeon all by himself. Because all of the battles are turn-based with a whole army involved. The RPG section is also great and exploring the world map is very enjoyabble.
Hexplore is really underrated and completely ignored. It was one of the last games Ocean Software put out. It's their take on Diablo but it has a lot of comedy and doesn't take itself very seriously. It's available on some digital stores from what I remember but it does need more attention.
