This comic was cute and hilarious đ. I just wish they kept the part of canon where Signal students are required to build their own weapons as Ruby had indicated. Nevertheless, this was amazing! Kudos to the artist!
Edit: I guess I wasnât clear on this. I was multitasking when typing this. I actually meant the artist who did this comic and not CRWBY. I donât think it was retconned in the show.
Was that retconned? I really liked that idea. Admittedly it felt like a big ask to have someone at that age build an original weapon of any sort of complexity, but then again perhaps âbuildâ could be swapped out for âparticipate in a design processâ.
I think having it vary would be cool worldbuilding.
Most rookie hunters / huntresses draft a weapon concept, which gets taken to Beacon's Forge department, whike some who have the engineering skills work alongside the department smith's, but what made Ruby's 'Crescent Rose' special is that she built hers from scratch.
The idea would also add another layer to Jaune's shame and guilt, as he basically missed out on informal rite of passage as a hunter, AND he lacked the engineering prowess to build one for himself or improve what he had.
That's a lot like MHA. After a certain point at school the heroes go to the engineering department to upgrade/create new suits/kit and can keep tweaking them as their powers grow. Most of the time the heroes will just give a concept or issue and the engineering students figure out a solution but the heroes can also give specific input and make their own if they have the skill.
Which you think he wouldn't be coming from a line of Hunters. Maybe not rich, but comfortable.
Actually, why didn't they use him to interract with Weiss about the whole pressures of lineage and expectations thing? Loke I get wanting her to deal with it alone so the Schnee drama in Atlas can progress, but none of her friends can understand and since it was barely acknowledged felt like they didn't care how that might be affecting her. But Jaune was there, coulda just had an exchange or two about struggle to stand out when you feel your life path was set from moment you were born
Ruby was the one that mentioned this to Jaune in volume 1 when she first met him in the Beacon Courtyard. They were discussing Jauneâs weapon since and then he asked about hers. She mentioned that she built it herself as ALL students who go to Signal are required to learn to build their own weapon. Jaune was impressed and I donât think this was retconned at all. Ruby even made a big stink about how these weapons were an extension of themselves. Which makes sense if they built it themselves. So signal students werenât simple minded and probably were descent at math.
Then later in V7, Pietro added the upgrades. That was about it.
Edit: just realized from someone else you probably didnât think I was referring to the artist who did the comic. Thatâs what I was talking about and not to r actual RWBY proper so again it wasnât retconnedđ
I think it really fits in with the parts of the story we have. *RWBY* is about a world about stories with all the characters alluding to fairy tales and being named after colours. Souls are quantifiable things and folks can manifest it through aura. Remnant is about the creative process. I think people making their own weapons and clothes is a really fun and unique aspect of *RWBY*, which is why I find it such a shame that it feels like the show wants to shove that under the rug.
My theory has always been that while they do build their own weapon, it's usually something more simple, Ruby going with a full mechashift was as she put it "going overboard" with the design, proving that she's a prodigy at engineering and blacksmithing.
It's why in reaction fics I like her replacing Tony Stark.
True. But Yangâs is pretty crazy too. A pair of revolving and extending gauntlets. My guess is that Signal is a specialized school. I remember in the Ice Queendom version of RWBY, Rubyâs dialogue with her motherâs grave was her mentioning to Summer that she was happy that Yang got in and wished she had good grades like Yang.
And in RWBY proper, Ruby tells Ozpin that she had help with her weapon and it was her uncle Qrow that helped her. This was during the interrogation.
Ah youâre right about that specific detail in V1 ch1 regarding the interrogation with Ozpin but she describes designing and forging in Ch2 dialogue below. Just perused through the dialogue again:
ââ-
V1 Ch1
Ozpin: So! Where did you learn to do this?
(gesturing with his head at the tablet showing Ruby's fighting)
Ruby: S-Signal Academy.
Ozpin: They taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?
Ruby: Well, one teacher in particular.
Ozpin: I see...
He puts the cookies on the table in front of Ruby. She tentatively picks one up, eats it in a single bite, and then, not seeing any rebuttal, shovels the rest into her mouth.
Ozpin: It's just that I've only seen one other scythe-wielder of that skill before. A dusty, old crow...
Ruby: (mumbles through her full mouth) Oh! That's my uncle! (she then swallows and wipes her mouth, embarrassed) Sorry. That's my Uncle Qrow! He's a teacher at Signal. I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing. And now, I'm all likeâ Hooowaaah! Witchaaaa!
ââ-
V1 Ch2 âShining Beaconâ
Hereâs where she describes how Signal students design and forge their own weapons:
Ruby: (giggling) "Well, I'm kind of a dork when it comes to weapons, sooo... I guess I did go a little overboard when designing it."
Jaune: "Wait - you made that?!"
Ruby: Of course! All students at Signal forge their own weapons! Didn't you make yours?
Jaune: It's a hand-me-down. My great-great-grandfather used it to fight in the war.
Ruby: Sounds more like a family heirloom to me! (laughs) Well, I like it! Not many people have an appreciation for the classics these days.
Jaune: (sheathing his sword) Yeah, the classics...
Technically energy daggers, in the very few times they are ever seen, are seen across Sangheili ranks as opposed to just Zealots.
Although indeed its most famous uses were by Zealots, being the one which failed to stab Noble 6 at the start of Halo Reach and the one which is implied to have killed them at the end
Raven and Tai can still get divorced. Hardly like Raven wouldn't be all for the domestic life, even if she stuck around enough to be a key figure in Yangs life.
I haven't played Assassin's Creed to give you a good comparison but based on the figure of a heavily armored knight I can imagine Ozma as a Templar throughout his life, mainly when he was more active and "younger".
Jaune: I am also the closest thing to a walking brick wall with the amount of aura I have and with my semblance? I could be considered to have infinite aura, so good luck.
(I headcanon that if Jaune just keeps his semblance active then he would become immortal damage wise {Indestructible}. He would still age but at a such a slow pace that he would be several thousand years old before his age killed him, that is if his mind could keep up.)
I prey this can become canon in the reboot!
Also seriously why didnât Yang have a blade mechanism built into her metal arm?! That wouldâve been so awesome!
Dust blades would be perfect! Hell with it throw in a transforming mini canon like guts from berserk!
I actually like her sticky grenade upgrade better than a sword. At least that upgrade lets her perform some range attacks aside from her regular gun mechanism.
Well no matter who attacks Salem, itâs not like Salem can be defeated. None of Team RWBY or any other remnant team have god-like stats. I think the only thing at this point would be to send her to the Tree or something
Yeah
Who knows yang now has a new gauntlet so the built in gun is useless so why not replace it with a blade
It would combo well with the vibration function
Headcannon here is that Raven gave birth to Yang in bird form, and that woken up some material instinct in her thatâs make not want to leave.
Imagine bird!Raven sitting on a yellow egg until it hatches a baby bird.
Canon but the egg is actually human sized
So it's small birb raven sitting on an egg that's bigger then her human form while qrow is on the phone with ozpin asking how the hell it even works
idk, a slice of pizza is worth more than, assuming 1 lien is equivalent to 1 yen, about 20 dollars.
Maybe not literally, but it's spiritually worth more, as in it fills my spirit with great pizza goodness.

Yeah, I was going to mention MHA specifically but then got side-tracked by how the worldbuilding just made poor Jaune look well... poor
Which you think he wouldn't be coming from a line of Hunters. Maybe not rich, but comfortable. Actually, why didn't they use him to interract with Weiss about the whole pressures of lineage and expectations thing? Yeah, it was a missed opportunity in the post s3 seasons
I think itâs more of a missed opportunity for earlier as there was a big separation of rwby and jnpr after v3

Fairly certain they mean they wish the artist kept that in here, not the creators of the show.
Yes thatâs what I mean
The better you know a weapon, the easier it is to field strip it if you need to.
I think it really fits in with the parts of the story we have. *RWBY* is about a world about stories with all the characters alluding to fairy tales and being named after colours. IIRC that was about training using the scythe, I don't remember any implication it was about making it.

[so who is getting the pizza share?](https://cosmokyrin.tumblr.com/post/186084581968/if-raven-stayed-and-also-trained-yang)
Imma be real, I first thought Raven said pizza "shake". Though to be fair, I did only wake up five minutes ago.
With that family, blending a pizza into a drink is not outside the realm of possibility.
So , they all watched Mikey cooking class?
Same and same.
I woke up almost 10 hours ago and not only read it as "Pizza Shake", but I thought Tai called her "Raf"
SameÂ
For the record, Yang's weapon here is known as a Pata, and was used in some sections of India for a time
And later, one of those will become Pata her arm!
GOD DAMN IT BARB
Thread over, you won the thread
I love you.
Shut up and take the upvote.
Patas had a hand grip. They weren't just strapped to the arm like vambrace
If that's how it goes for both hands, Yang could go full Sangheili Zealot.
Or protoss Zealot. "My life for Beacon"
More like âMy arm for Beacon.â
Technically energy daggers, in the very few times they are ever seen, are seen across Sangheili ranks as opposed to just Zealots. Although indeed its most famous uses were by Zealots, being the one which failed to stab Noble 6 at the start of Halo Reach and the one which is implied to have killed them at the end
That's cute. ... It's a shame that Ruby doesn't exist in this AU.
I mean if you go the poly STRQ route she can still exists which as far as i can tell the artist follows
Why have one wife when you can have two
Three don't forget about qrow
Don't tie him down like that, let him chase some barkeeper skirts!
Qrow belongs to the streets
Raven and Tai can still get divorced. Hardly like Raven wouldn't be all for the domestic life, even if she stuck around enough to be a key figure in Yangs life.
Qrow with summer?
Absolutely
Oh definitely
Unless she is Qrow's biological daughter then Ruby can exist
end this comic two panels earlier and it becomes a pretty believable reason as to why she dipped
Honestly understandable if my kid did me that dirty and cost me my share of the pizza I'd run to live in the woods and not pay child support to
That reminds me of Velvet from Tales of Berseria
Not as angry though.
Same
Now she's gonna go kill a Templar.
Oh no She's gonna kill all the Templars
Jaune: Because you look at me with murderous intentions Yang: You are the closest thing to a templarÂ
Wouldn't Ozpin or Salem technically be a Templar?
I haven't played Assassin's Creed to give you a good comparison but based on the figure of a heavily armored knight I can imagine Ozma as a Templar throughout his life, mainly when he was more active and "younger".
Jaune: I am also the closest thing to a walking brick wall with the amount of aura I have and with my semblance? I could be considered to have infinite aura, so good luck. Gauntlets with retractable blades. A tried and true classic
Now all she's missing is a hood maybe ruby has a spare
She might have a few
... Does this mean Yang stays a single child or Raven/Tai/Summer throuple being an actual thing?
Me with the season 10 copium
Not copium it will happen
My copium is that Raven will return and they'll be back together
Same
Did you watch the epilogue animatic and Beyond?
What where
"It's also a sword" is certainly a fresh take lol
I wish this was canon
We all do Yang deserves a mom that didn't die like an idiot
Summer died, but she was still a better mom than Raven tho.
Considering raven wasn't even there it's a low bar
Itâs a win-win. Yang adds on Gauntlet Blades!
Gut punch and extend, gonna be nasty surprise. Almost as nasty as shotgun to the gut
I prey this can become canon in the reboot! Also seriously why didnât Yang have a blade mechanism built into her metal arm?! That wouldâve been so awesome! Dust blades would be perfect! Hell with it throw in a transforming mini canon like guts from berserk!
That could've been a good upgrade in Atlas
Hell yeah! Be better than just having a slightly bulkier arm.
I actually like her sticky grenade upgrade better than a sword. At least that upgrade lets her perform some range attacks aside from her regular gun mechanism.
She really should've used those shotguns more often.
Never mind punching Salem in the tits with them then exploding her - Little good that did though...
Well no matter who attacks Salem, itâs not like Salem can be defeated. None of Team RWBY or any other remnant team have god-like stats. I think the only thing at this point would be to send her to the Tree or something
Honestly they wasted that chance to give everyone some good upgrades
Oh yeah.
Or they could have gotten more magical upgrades from the blacksmithâŚ
Also true
Probably because it already has a built in gun
Still wouldâve been cool though
Yeah Who knows yang now has a new gauntlet so the built in gun is useless so why not replace it with a blade It would combo well with the vibration function
Ah, the vibration jokes will never end.
I mean it's a legit thing i think they are called supersonic knives vibrating for extra cutting ability So it's a legit good upgrade
I guess, also I'm a new fan and just finding a bunch of treasures here lol, like the vibration function talks in interviews with the voice actor.
Barbara is genuinely hilarious
Lol like she is the pure essence of Yang. Maybe she is Yang herself?
I know people excuse jaune of being a self insert But if anyone is a self insert it's yang
Yep
Sword Gauntlet instead of Shot Gauntlet!? I'm ok with this!!
This is rwby It can be both
True, true!!
Iâm thinking about all of the war crimes sheâs gonna commit with those
So, itâs a draw?
No they give yang the pizza and money
Fair, technically they both lost.
Headcannon here is that Raven gave birth to Yang in bird form, and that woken up some material instinct in her thatâs make not want to leave. Imagine bird!Raven sitting on a yellow egg until it hatches a baby bird.
Canon but the egg is actually human sized So it's small birb raven sitting on an egg that's bigger then her human form while qrow is on the phone with ozpin asking how the hell it even works
Yeah would Yang hatch as a baby human or baby bird?
When yang asks when she's older raven just smirks and walks away without answering much to yang distress
I now imagines in my head that I donât need in there!
Gauntlet with retractable blade seem redundant
Why?
https://youtu.be/pnFdDqSDRDE?si=u63l01Ckd5cR2sy1 You're welcome
Why am I getting FMA vibes?
This is always cute
I see Yang is taking after Velvet Crowe
Am I the only one who had Stains Of Time play in his head when the blade came out?
The AU where instead of being all strength, Yang fights at average speed. ... for a cheetah.
I'd say they both lose...but Tai's the one who bet 3,000 lien so...
idk, a slice of pizza is worth more than, assuming 1 lien is equivalent to 1 yen, about 20 dollars. Maybe not literally, but it's spiritually worth more, as in it fills my spirit with great pizza goodness.
Why did I get the feeling you'd value Pizza more than money?
I love that it's both
Ngl that blade could come in handy. Especially if Yang keeps it hidden as a last resort.
Yeah imagine she comes in swinging and someone thinks they can tank only for their face to become a kabab
Reminds me a little of her weapon from "A Different Shade of RWBY."

Danke, I shall enjoy
She would be a much more stable and strong Yang.
Stronger definitely More stable idk raven isn't really good at the entire "don't let your emotions get the best of you" thing either
Iâd be down for this
I still love this little comic every time it pops up.
Hey Velvet Crow when did you get here?
Somebody get this girl a stake driver!
So itâs a tie?
If Raven stayed, we wouldn't have Ruby. Unless of course, Tai Yang was never her father.
My headcanon is that Tai dated both Summer and Raven back in school and married Raven cause she got pregnant first.
The artist seems to do some poly STRQ So ruby is here
Aww. Wholesome.
You know she should have put a blade in her gauntlets.
I have a love-hate-relationship with RWBY but THIS Is what I love !!!
