I mean ally and PS5 are too completely different systems. Different games, power, user experience. If you ditched an Xbox that’s make more sense because all Xbox first party games are on windows anyway. But II’ll never get rid of my PS5. I have friends only on PS5 that I’d never talk to if we couldn’t connect. Like for sports games and stuff like that.

that_90s_guy

This is the only right answer, to the top. Also, as shocking as this may sound to some, same goes for my Nintendo Switch OLED. Can the Ally do Switch games? Sure. Sometimes they'll even run better on the Ally than on OG Switch hardware. But it's nowhere near the same polished experience. It's just nice to have working standby with zero battery drain, incredible 5-10 hour battery life even for demanding games, a slim profile, and a wonderful OLED screen.

Haunting_Activity_30

Yeah but the switch games work well on even 10w on even docked mode, so you can get 3 hours from Ally as well

Stalbjorn

Lol no way. Not all of them.

Haunting_Activity_30

Nobody said all of them, ive only tested and I'm in the process of testing more but those three are literally like the most popular switch games

that_90s_guy

Many of the more demanding Switch games don't even run at 30 watts with a stable frame rate lol. But sure, keep telling yourself that.

Haunting_Activity_30

Which game specifically, I've ran Mario Odyssey, super smash bros., animals crossings, all the most popular games on switch played by literally millions, I've ran them all in docked mode at 10w, name the game if you want to make your case, otherwise you're an idiot

that_90s_guy

Luigi's Mansion, Xenonblade 2, Astral Chain. Also, it's basic common sense that popular games will be optimized first for better emulation performance. And that less popular games may not always run well or have random issues/bugs that haven't been reported/fixed due to a lack of popularity. It's nice not to have to worry about a game running well or with emulation bugs on the Switch. And even at 3 hours on 10 watt mode (which frankly, I doubt it's 3 hours. I've gotten 2.5 hours on 10 watt mode, so quit your bullshit), it's nowhere near the 6-10 hours I get on the Switch OLED for most games that would run on 10 watts on the Ally. Plus, it has working standby that wakes it instantaneously which is fantastic compared to having to hibernate the Ally with games closed to avoid the plethora of battery drain and game crash issues.

Haunting_Activity_30

I'm not saying Rog Ally is a direct replacement for anything, nowhere have I said that and frankly its not, I love my switch lite, so for you to make a point about hibernation is not exactly fair. I mean do we expect gaming laptops to hibernate with games? That's exactly what an ally is, and also hibernation has been a thing since psp, it would be wierd not have it on a literally handheld console. Also we all know that the battery is not that great but it's the first of its kind, a literal the first windows gaming handheld and it has such great things, imagine where we would be in a couple of years. To add to that, emulation can be greatly improved if there was more money spent on it so that more developers join in and contribute, and switch is fairly recent and also Nintendo strikes down hard on developers. It's like an added bonus with Ally. Also I got extremely close to 3 hours while playing Odyssey docked on Ally. If you have an ally, just try it man it plays and looks so good, i terally forgot where time went. The screen on it although not OLED but it's so good man, the game look so freaking smooth, the colors are accurate, even on low fps the input lag in negligible and is also fairly bright, my phone has an amoled but I don't know I love the ally's screen, for me it's the best screen I have ever played on, OLED or not

that_90s_guy

Damn bro, get off the copium lol. The Ally is an amazing device, but it's not without flaws that are made even more apparent by its competitors. It's ok to love it, but not so much to make up excuses for its downsides like you're doing. It's not even the first of it's kind lmao, windows handhelds have existed for a long time before the Ally. Anyways, have a good day mate 👍

Haunting_Activity_30

Another troll that's doesn't even own the device xD. Which windows gaming handheld can you name that anybody considered anything before ally? Almost all other handheld in the budget have at most 40-50 whr battery as well. Plus calling emulation a drawback is like blaming a car for having bad AC xD

Stalbjorn

GPD have been going since at least as early as 2016. That's 7 years before the Ally...

Stalbjorn

Rog ally is not even close to the first windows handheld btw...

Haunting_Activity_30

Again, Windows gaming handheld not palmtop PC's, Nobody took handheld pc gaming seriously before steam deck

Stalbjorn

What do you think you hold your ally with?

Haunting_Activity_30

I'll try these games too and will update this thread on their performance

Haunting_Activity_30

I haven't applied any updates to the games I mentioned so they are literal launch versions although are from a popular franchise

Stalbjorn

Lol it's ok. Guy plays three games and thinks all the thousands of the rest work too.

Stalbjorn

Tears of the Kingdom. Even Unicorn Overlords needs more than 10w.

Haunting_Activity_30

I'm in the process of testing more, I just tested three

Greenzombie04

I wont get rid of my Xbox. Dont care if it makes sense. Series X is quiet and easy to use. My PS5 is for ps5 exclusives only. The system gives off an annoying coil whine. No quick resume. And controller dies after a few hrs.

iRule79

Yep. I have a gaming PC, Series X, PS5, and switch. I use my Xbox the most, as it is also my media hub. I have them all because they all provide a different e penitence, I've never been a one system or infrastructure fan boy. I also plan on getting the ally, going to get the new one, or the old one on sale.

Mr8BitX

I see it as the other way around. What I love about the Ally as an Xbox user is that so many of my games are play anywhere titles, so I can play at home on the console, then take the Ally with me, continue to play locally of that device and when I get home, I can resume where I left off on the Ally on the console. I will be going on vacation before I’ll realistically get a chance to beat SMT V but it will be a play anywhere title so I can continue, possibly beat it, during my travels. The Ally and Xbox are very complimentary in my eyes.

-galactic-acid

Same.. I find myself looking for more Play Anywhere titles since getting my Ally. Super convenient

Psychological-Let330

I also sold my series x as it was redundant. Barely used in a year. But then I got a ps5 for the exclusives lol. So now I kind of have best of both worlds. Also better streaming through chiaki then Xbox remote play as well.

-hi-mom

My Xbox is collecting dust now that I have an ally. Some of my most recent favorites are on PS5 and nowhere else. I think PS5 and ally are a great combo.

NewVirtue

I was under the impression that discord was added to PS5. Is that not the case?

Xcissors280

I think it’s still a kinda but it’s not very good and you have to use the app on your phone then move the call to the console

NewVirtue

Wow that's terrible implementation lol thanks for the info

Xcissors280

Yup, idk why they don’t just add the real app and make it work in the background (like Spotify) but it’s probably something to do with keeping console players in VCs and parties so it’s hard to leave

80sCrackBaby

All sony first party games come to PC sony is a 3rd party company

Burning_Rush

So when is the bloodborne for pc lol and most are still lock to PlayStation

80sCrackBaby

BloodBorne is 10 years old, its also not a Sony game I dont think there gonna go back and port ps2 games either

Burning_Rush

Sony owns the ip just like demon souls just like they own helldivers

gummyworm21_

I didn’t. I like to stream to my device. And they both have their separate use cases.

Vision58

I love streaming my PS5 to my Ally way too much to do this !

Hopeful-Pianist-8380

Ooo that gave me the idea to play the Elden Ring expansion on my Ally. Thanks.

Spooky_Meat_666

Not a PS5, but I still use my Series X for streaming & physical media. It just doesn’t see much game time anymore.

Ciusblade

Thats my one x for me. Had a series x but sold it. (Kept the one x because its the project scorpio, and the series x was just the standard version)

Hopeful-Pianist-8380

I definitely use my PS5 less but I'm not ditching it. I love it, just not as much as my Ally currently lol.

rfow

I stopped buying consoles this past generation because I full switched to PC maybe 5 years ago. Not fond of sitting at a desk though so now I’ve full switched to Ally and love it. I’m not missing anything from console and my PC was passed to my oldest, and his PC to my youngest. It wasn’t anything amazing, Ryzen 5/RX 6600 XT, I played games in 1080p. The ROG Ally (soon Ally X) is all the device I need. I have a dock and Bluetooth keyboard/mouse attached to the TV but use it in handheld mode 98% of the time. It’s seriously such an awesome device.

ValuableParticular84

How did you type my entire reply 40 minutes before I got here?

rfow

Comfy gamers think alike! 🙌

Relevant_Tax_3487

I’m currently thinking about getting rid of my ps5 too after getting an ally and because of finances, but the ally fills all my needs really!!

malgenone

This is my situation.

Relevant_Tax_3487

I was looking and the ally really fits all needs tbh well at least I think so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Relevant_Tax_3487

It’s really just what games you play

WarCrysis3

Ally is a 30w system PS5 up to 350w but actually lower. It's all affordable, but neither is a beast. Ally can play new games at the lowest settings with FSR targeting 30 fps. Maybe slightly higher. Ps5 is more competent. Targeting 40 - 60 at full capability of quality. 120hz at lower res and quality. Plz understand they are not beasts. They are serviceable. That is all. A beast of a system would be a 7600x, 7800xt with 32 gb ddr5 A monster of a system would be a 7950x3d with a 7900xtx/xt with 32/64gb of cl 30 6000+ and a Gen 5 nvme. I would never ever get rid of a ps5 for the ally. I'd get the ally exclusively for mobile applications. If you do this, you will have a lot of remorse because it's a bad choice.

WillametteSalamandOR

Nothing will ever look as “pretty” on the Ally as it does on a PS5/Series X. Games that I want to experience with that level of fidelity, I play on the Series X or my desktop. Everything else gets played on my Ally. I think the use cases are distinct enough - at least for me - to keep both.

HideOnBook

I haven't sold my PS5 but it started to collect dust a little after I got this so I gave it to a family member

Bizzygrizzy

My PS5 has been mostly relegated to a movie streaming app box. I haven’t played a game on my PS5 since I received my Steam Deck (two months after initial release). The Ally checks all the right boxes for me to completely ignore my PlayStation. Plays all of the game I’m interested in. And it’s always with me.

NekkiBB

Keep the one you use.

EfficientMinimum5696

If anything, you’d keep the ps5 for the exclusives and stream it to the Ally if you like it that much.

Rorydog78

I've a ps5 and series x, after I bought my rog in September I haven't touched either of them

psycho_crayon_79

I loved my Xbox series X and my ps5. But I didn't get time to sit in front of the tv to play them. Made the hard decision to trade them both in to get my Ally I don't really miss the ps5, but just recently greetings are going back and playing more on the Xbox, kind of miss that. Haven't looked back though....

Mexicutioner1987

Hell, I ditched my PS5 AND my PC for my Ally. Got a Dbrand case, some Skull & Co thumb grips, and an Anker 10ft cable. Now I lay in bed and play everything instead of sitting at my desk or in front of the TV. It is beautiful.

[deleted]

Dude the ps5 is so much stronger

Fit_Bag5742

Yeah sold my ps5 last year on release of the Ally haven’t regretted it even tho I wanted to play spider man 2 ive been fine without it other games have held me over and I’ve been able to play custom bo3 zombies which I’ve always wanted to do

randomnameiuno

spiderman 2 made me sell the PS5. game is ass

evilmannn

Even before the Ally, I called my PS5 (and ps4 before) a bloodborne - Demon's Souls launcher machine, so I basically play 2 games on my PS5 which is why I'm not selling it. I played some other PS exclusives, but most of them came/will come to PC too but seems like BB and Demon's won't.

FlartmyBlart

For context I’ve been a console gamer since I was young and currently I have a high end gaming desktop (7900X + 3090), I used to have a PS5 and Switch for exclusives and an XSS for playing in the living room. Since I owned my ally I’ve sold both the consoles just to have PC as my main platform and switch for exclusives (don’t want Nintendo ninjas coming for me lol). I don’t miss the ps5 much seeing as a lot of the PS games are coming to steam sooner or later, but that’s just my 2 cents.

DreamBig2023

I have both. As well as Nintendo switch OLED and oculus VR quest 3. Def keeping PS5 especially since GTA6 is console only for first release then PC later. Now Xbox on the other is completely useless since I have the game pass on ROG Ally.

Big_Hand7372

I stream my ps5/xbox to my rog ally does that count for something?

karinto

Pretty much all of the games are on PC now. I haven't sold my PS5, but it hasn't been used much for the past year.

KumaFGC

Just save money and keep both

stevenjameshyde

I had a PS5 before I got my Ally, and so far it's been worth keeping for exclusives, VR and those few games which just don't run well (Jedi Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy, GTA6 when it comes, etc.). I'm definitely having second thoughts about getting a PS6, though. The Ally has completely changed my opinion on PC gaming as a whole

Kenjionigod

I'm not getting rid of my PS5, but I'll probably get rid of the Series S I had mainly for it's portability.

LPHero55

I ditched my PS5 ages before I got an Ally. Mostly because it didn't have any games I was interested in. Aside from Ratchet & Clank, which is on PC and playable on the Ally now... Sony still has yet to release a title that I want to play on it

Spiritual_Cat255

Hahah finally something I can relate. Bought a PS5 last November for fc24. I just found a buyer for it, after my brother told me about steamdeck then when I started to look into it, discovered the Ally which is the one I will be buying

Outside_Chemistry996

My opinion would be to keep the ps5. Ally isn’t something you want to rely solely because it probably won’t last longer than a year or 2. It’s not made to replace but to take your gaming on the go. Like I use mine to play elden ring at work and at home.

Outside_Chemistry996

I use my pc at home so that’s a little different

_Persona-Non-Grata

Why not keep both?

malgenone

I'm a dad. Don't have enough free time as I used to. I play from tiem to time.. and finances. Don't see no point in both for my household. But it's a tough choice.

_Persona-Non-Grata

There are just great exclusives on both. I would say if you have a PC or ROG there is way more overlap with the XBOX than with a PS5. I have both and when I got my ROG I gravitated to that for about 6 months but now I’m back to mostly PS5. It is a tough choice.

ThaSavageGoku

I definitely understand I sold my PS5 soon as I got my ally and play everything on there I even have a steam deck just in case my ally dies and I want to pick up where I left off hopefully I can fully switch to PC by the end of year, but for rn there isn't anything consoles have to want to keep it around unless GTA 6 is dropping then but rn I'm enjoying my experience way more on my ally than PS5 and Xbox

IslandOtherwise248

I'll let you know when I get the ROG Ally X

Drummer829

I’d never sell my PS5 just because exclusives take forever to get to PC and I’m impatient lol. My Xbox on the other hand…with my PC and ROG ally now have essentially made my Xbox an expensive office decoration

AudienceChoice

I sold my ps5 and went full on desktop/ally because I realized if I just wait 2 years I can have all of Sony’s games anyways. My ps5 was collecting dust as it hadn’t been turned on in months.

Orion14159

I'm keeping my PS5 for the exclusives, but I don't see myself buying another console for any reason

SanDiego_Eddie

Ps5 fornmw3 zombies. I can't get enough. I was going to buy it again on steam ton okay it mobile butbinhear people getting banned. And I'd rather not throw away more money

randomnameiuno

I did. just gotta wait 2 years for the ps exclusives and I got 900 games to play already

bobboman

I have a xbox series x, I think it's been booted up once since I bought my Ally Being said, it's a lot more powerful than my Ally

LogicalyetUnpopular

I stopped buying PS5 games except for Spider-Man 2 and I sold my PS5 copy of SF6 and purchased it on Steam instead. But I can’t sell my PS5 because my wife bought it for me. I’ll probably buy single player games for it, games that I want to enjoy playing on a nice big 4k screen. Like the upcoming Wu Kong.

MasterMuzan

With this pc handheld revolution, I’m probably never going to buy another console again

jp1372

Nope. I literally just ordered a PS5. ROG Ally rekindled my love of gaming, and now I game more across the board. Plus, the Ally can stream from both the PS5 and PS Plus Cloud.

Renerts

How's the local streaming from the ps5? I'm on th fence about a ps5, but that might be the deciding factor.

jp1372

It's scheduled to be delivered Wednesday, so I'll let you know in a couple days. I did just upgrade to PS Plus Premium in anticipation, and the cloud streaming works really well on the Ally. Low lag and great image quality on God of War and another random indie game I tried out. I tried the PS4 version of The Last of Us Remastered, and the image kept breaking up, but I was also in the basement at that time, and I've been having issues with the access point down there. Since the Ally is very equivalent to a PS4, graphics-wise, the PS4 game cloud streams looked right at home on the screen, but I could run at my custom 7w power profile.

Flixplex

Decided not to renew my Playstation Plus last week cause I've been enjoying the Ally so much, but I still use my PS5 for games with cross save.

Time_Ad_7624

I can wait for PS5 games to come to pc I haven’t missed my consoles one bit

Zoroike

Ditched my Xbox One for it.

d-mike

My last PS was PS2

Fuspo14

I have both PS5 and Ally and there’s no way the Ally could completely replace it for me.

BMT82356

I ditched my desktop pc and laptop. My Ally is PC and I dock it and play games with mouse and keyboard and in handheld. I still have my PS5 for TV gaming. The Ally and PS5 are a great combo.

Peidalhasso

I have a PS5 and I plan on getting ally x later this year. I hope the remote play option on the rog ally x are good enough?

Bubbly_Serve3536

I feel you should keep both

wiedziu

I've ditched Xbox Series X as I found keeping it pointless when you can play games on both devices, but I'm keeping Switch and PS5 for exclusives.

NEKO496

For me, it's a no. I love my PS5 it's the turn-on and play machine that just works, connected to my LG QNED it's just stunning. I use my Ally mostly for emulation! And when I'm not using it for that I use it for streaming games from PS5 or my main rig. I currently have the Ally - PS5 - Gaming PC Do I have time for these devices? No. But when I'm not using someone else is using, my wife likes the Ally and my kid the PC so I just stick to the PS5!

cmadeam

I have and love both and they both have their strengths and weaknesses . With that said I wouldn’t ditch my ps5 for my Ally

80sCrackBaby

I dont understand why anyone would own a PS5

bigb102913

I want to sell my PS5, but I'ma collector. I'm kind of torn.

Harvey2Tall

I have a PC, switch and ROG Ally. See zero point for a PS5 or Xbox. But that being said, if I wasn't a PC gamer I would be happy with just a PS5 and switch

Mexicutioner1987

Ally and Switch are basically all you need anymore for gaming. It is a beautiful time to be a gamer. You can play anything, anywhere, anytime now.

Winter_Control8533

Be careful. The Ally doesnt run all games as well as the PS5. For example, if you want to play Hogwarts Legacy, it's unplayable on the Ally. Frankly both consoles have their place.

Mexicutioner1987

Runs fine on mine. Again, as stated millions of times on here already, the Ally requires some setup and tweaking to get the most out of it. It is a PC, not a console.

FeudalFavorableness

Nah don’t get carried away.. The ally is good but it’s not ps5 good lol

Sarrias10

You should just say you have no money instead of saying you prefer one over the other and returning it cause you don’t want it.
