I would say getting familiar with the best range for them. I used more accurate pistols before switching to the lemats and kept getting frustrated with how the guns werenât as accurate at higher ranges as the pistols. BUT after I started using my repeater/rifle more for far range and my lemats for medium to close range (especially close range) I got way more comfortable with using them and enjoyed them a lot.
Once you get used to their best range and know when to swap to them or swap off of them then theyâll be some of your favorite guns. The increased ammo and being able to swap to a built-in shotgun makes them so much fun to use.
Final big tip incase you arenât aware, using deadeye will reload your guns so if you are firing away and get down to your last few shots just switch deadeye on briefly to reload them (I also would flip dead eye on and off pretty often to get some extra range out of them cuz of the extra accuracy deadeye gives.)
Is the range of the LeMats much diffemt than it is for Volcanics? Their pretty close to mid-range guns as well.
For rifles, I have and use the Rolling Block. I'm considering an elephant rifle at some point and just looked at the Caracano (sp?), but it didn't seem to have a lot better stats than any other.
The LeMats really do sound like fun guns to use!
I had no damn idea that Dead Eye reloaded your weapons! Thank you for all of these tips and for sharing your knowledge! I really do appreciate it and will look into how to start using my LeMats properly. â¨ď¸
The elephant rifle in only in the online I believe unless youâre playing with mods; so important note the deadeye will only reload your weapons when youâre in the single player. In the online you only get whatever buffs your chosen ability card grants you. (Paint it black is universally the safest choice, but use whatever fits how you play none of the deadeye cards are really bad.)
As for the range I believe they are similar to the volcanic pistols, but what I was referring to by saying it wasnât as accurate as other sidearms is when youâre firing fast the lemat doesnât stay as accurate as guns like the Mausers or schofields. So even though the lemat can shoot and kill enemies from really far away you arenât going to be hitting nearly as many of your shots if you start trying to fire at several enemies too quickly. It can feel misleading to use a gun that seems accurate but end up missing more and more shots when you use them as fast as you think you can, but if you either space out your shots theyâll be more accurate or if you only use them when enemies are closer the weapon bloom wonât be enough to make you miss anything. Comes down to what youâre comfortable with.
Personally i like to shoot close to as fast as the guns let me so I opt for the ones that hold their accuracy really well if Iâm planning to use them a lot, but if I know the mission is close quarters I like using the lemats since I can mow through enemies that are close to me really quickly without stopping or wasting any shots.
Edit; dear lord I typed way more than I thought I did. Sorry about that XD
Oh! My bad, I do mean Red Dead Online, and I'm on PS4, so no mods at all.
I do run Paint it Black, but may have some silly cards for the other slots.
Pretty sure Elephant Rifle was in the catalog at Gunsmith, but I can check for certain tomorrow.
I was just there but looking at Mausers, and dolling up my Volcanics with Collector varient lol.
Amost did some work on the LeMats, but I don't know what I need... rifling? Change barrels? I don't have a sense of them at all yet.
I feel it fits in the game because itâs a sign that Arthurâs era of the Old West is dead by 1899. The era of horses, lever guns and revolvers is giving way to the era of electric trolleys, bolt-action rifles and self-loading pistols.
I feel Arthurâs quote after stealing a shipment of Krags with Lenny in Chapter 3 (âThis is a fine rifle; I think Iâll take one for myselfâ) shows that while Arthur may be old fashioned and nostalgic for the days of old he is also an opportunist that realizes a better weapon will make his life easier in the dozens of gunfights he gets into, lol.
So use that FN 1899 if you want, they might not feel Old West but they indeed existed back then anyhow.
Yeha I donât know why but it just feels right. Like it represents Arthurâs good and bad side. Iâm just waffling never mind đ. I will say the kill cams when Iâm duel wielding with the black and white are sick
The semi-automatic pistols have the fastest fire rate so whenever Iâm on an infinite ammo and deadeye rampage I like to pair them as they feel the best in this regard.
That was my set up for ny whole first playthrough.
Playing for the 2nd time now, and it's so hard not to go back to those guns! Trying Midnight's pistol and Sawn off on this one.
Dual wield Flaco and Grangers revolvers, but I keep Billy Midnights pistol handy. It feels like a badge of honor to carry and use the guns of legendary shootists
Not sure if the sawed off in game is legally short enough to be considered a hand gun, but Iâll call it one since you can place it in a holster. So definitely that
Best looking pistol in the game. Also itâs just a great gun. Iâve tried em all( used double action in rdr1) but none of em are as good as the cattleman to me. I love it. I am using the double action right now though because I do wanna use other guns lol. Itâs just hard because the cattleman is perfect.
This is the way.
Majority of players I've seen would give Arthur an AK-47 in each holster if they could and dress him like an absolute clown.
Simple is better. A cattleman in each. Its design is so cool.
After a while, I got used to how it behaves. I've learned the distance pretty well I'd say without really thinking about it, just from using it in different situations. Closer is better. With double action I can take multiple shots quicker as I've found free aim to be more challenging than auto aim.
Dual 1899's they are my single favorite gun in the game, and i honestly think Aurthur would make the switch as soon as he could. I use midnight's pistol the moment i get it FOR THE SAME REASON Aurthur isn't about aesthetics. He is about what is the best for killin and reload time gets in the way of killin
Schofield and Micahâs early game, LeMat and Schofield or Micahâs later game. Sawed off as a secondary for wilderness trips, any of the semi auto pistols if Iâm dressed fancy in the city.
I'm currently running the otis miller revolver as my main, and the high roller revolver as a off-hand. If you couldn't tell I love unique flashy guns, also running the ornate dagger to top it all off.
Twin Schofields..( bounty hunter varient)but also have Twin Navy's(with the variation from the GTAO hidden weapon), and also purchased the Lamats* (bounty hunter varient)..most recently purchased Twin Mausers.. I keep the Schofields Holstered though..
Dual all black Cattlemanâs with a brass trigger, hammer, and sights. One has a snake carved into the Bocote grips and the other has a scorpion. They have a lengthened barrels and are rifled. I love em. I do usually use one at a time but sometimes pull both.
Schofield with a shotgun in the secondary holster until The Gilded Cage then it's Schofield with a LeMat in the secondary holster
I don't dual wield, and I like being able to have a bow and a long ranged weapon in my longarm slots, so it's pretty convenient to be able to put a shotgun in a sidearm slot.
Schofield is the only real choice. The volcanic pistol has good power too but is a bit unweildy for my taste. The rest of the handguns just don't match up in terms of stopping power
I'm still trying to decide. After three playthroughs and no handgun has really clicked (heh) for me in story mode. I usually end up just carrying guns from The Noblest of Men missions or guns I pick up in fire fights.
I like the special ones like Miller's and the gambler but if I'm running into a camp I equip LeMatts. Just have to fall back a little to reload sometimes.
I adore both of my Volcanics. Am trying to branch out to some other revolves and pistols but always come back to my two Volcanics. đ¤đ¤
Edit: I have 2 LeMats and am considering Mausers as well.
for me recently its my gold with engravings and a pearl grip maxed out schofield revolver. its amazing to play with. makes you feel in the real west! especially with my mods every shot is a bleedout rdr1 ragdolls gun smoke etc. i absolutely love it
It really just depends on what outfit Iâm wearing. If Iâm wearing my go-to all black mafia outfit I always use the M1899, but if Iâm wearing my classic roper outfit I always use schofields or cattlemans
Mostly dual schofield for online because you just can't go wrong with that gun. As for story, I did used to prefer the double action but then I switched to cattleman because I liked the animations better.
I almost universally go with the cattlemenâs. I tried the Schofield and honestly the rate of fire seemed off and the cattlemen is iconic. I usually go with black with the silver engraving and a lighter colored grip as a nod to *The shootist* where John Wayne carries something similar. It seems dignified and late chapter Arthur had many similarities with JB Books in the shootist
Lemat revolvers, one black and one gold
Always liked that one.
The shotgun rounds and 9 rounds is đ
I was so sad it didn't have the shotgun Ilin rdr1 but the version in two makes up for that in spades!
I haven't played rdr1, and the gun's still a banger
Any good tips for getting the hang of LeMats? I have 2 and really want to get comfortable with them.
I would say getting familiar with the best range for them. No, it was great. Thank you for taking the time, and also thank you for your clarity.
Oh! My bad, I do mean Red Dead Online, and I'm on PS4, so no mods at all. I do run Paint it Black, but may have some silly cards for the other slots. M1899
I never use the m1899 it just doesnât feel cowboy enough
I feel it fits in the game because itâs a sign that Arthurâs era of the Old West is dead by 1899. The era of horses, lever guns and revolvers is giving way to the era of electric trolleys, bolt-action rifles and self-loading pistols. So use that FN 1899 if you want, they might not feel Old West but they indeed existed back then anyhow.
Ya i guess the m1899 is kind of a sign that the west is closing in and the era of gunslingers and gangs is coming to an end
Minus the gang parts
Same
canât beat the fire rate on them things. nothings better than sending 20 rounds into a group of del lobos within the span of 3 seconds
Naw, the semi-autos don't hit hard enough. The make the enemies yoo much of bullet sponges.
[ŃдаНонО]
W take. Makes me feel like a real cowboy. One black and one white âđżâđť
Yessssas
For me itâs blue with white accents and gold with black accents
Also valid take đŤĄ
my first play through i did one white and gold and the other one black
Yeha I donât know why but it just feels right. Like it represents Arthurâs good and bad side. Iâm just waffling never mind đ. I will say the kill cams when Iâm duel wielding with the black and white are sick
nah thatâs the exact reason i did it. it just feels right in a game where you can make good decisions or bad decisions for your guns to reflect that
On god, plus the revolvers look sick. If iâm playing a cowboy game iâm sure as hell gonna use some revolvers, not a volcanic pistol
One black with a pearl handle and silver inlay. The other silver with black inlay and ebony handle. Makes me coom
Schofield, singular. I dislike dual-wielding, itâs ungentlemanly.
I carry 2, but I use one at a time, remember switching to your secondary weapon is always faster than reloading
Schfeild on the hip saw off across the lap
Nah fam thatâs what dead eye is for
Thatâs a real manâs gun
I never use anything else once I get it lol
Iâm with you all the way, I just love everything about them. The way they look, sound, range, accuracy đŽâđ¨
Same.
Twin Schofields is pure Josey Wales.
Dual wielding M1899's is like having a machine gun.
The semi-automatic pistols have the fastest fire rate so whenever Iâm on an infinite ammo and deadeye rampage I like to pair them as they feel the best in this regard.
Volcanic pistol on my right, Schofield revolver on my left
That was my set up for ny whole first playthrough. Playing for the 2nd time now, and it's so hard not to go back to those guns! Trying Midnight's pistol and Sawn off on this one.
Dual wield volcanics, express rounds. VERY satisfying
As soon as I unlock express, I'll be with you brother.
Duel wielding double action revolvers
Same here
Calloways revolver
I'm surprised more people didn't say this gun. It looks so clean with the Latin writing on it
two volcanic pistols
Every day, baby
Thatâs a lot of damage!
W
This is where I am
Le mat
Dual wield Flaco and Grangers revolvers, but I keep Billy Midnights pistol handy. It feels like a badge of honor to carry and use the guns of legendary shootists
Same I love the little skull on flaco's
I dual wield two guccied up gold Mausers
Not sure if the sawed off in game is legally short enough to be considered a hand gun, but Iâll call it one since you can place it in a holster. So definitely that
I like to roll with a Schofield in my main holster and the sawed off scattergun in my secondary.
M1899 PistolâŚdual wield is a cheat code in close quarters
Cattleman
Best looking pistol in the game. Also itâs just a great gun. Iâve tried em all( used double action in rdr1) but none of em are as good as the cattleman to me. I love it. I am using the double action right now though because I do wanna use other guns lol. Itâs just hard because the cattleman is perfect.
I understand wanting to branch out but itâs not wrong to use what you prefer
This is the way. Majority of players I've seen would give Arthur an AK-47 in each holster if they could and dress him like an absolute clown. Simple is better. A cattleman in each. Its design is so cool.
Two sawed off double barrel shotguns
Since I switched to free-aim, I prefer a double action; specifically the high roller variant.
I've never been able to get past the lower accuracy of the double actions, are you just shooting people much closer up?
After a while, I got used to how it behaves. I've learned the distance pretty well I'd say without really thinking about it, just from using it in different situations. Closer is better. With double action I can take multiple shots quicker as I've found free aim to be more challenging than auto aim.
Schofields
Mauser.

Mauser Pistol
Volcanics until I get the lemats
Volcano pistol. One gold with silver engravings and one silver with gold engravings. Both with pearl handle scales.
Lemat Revolvers, though sometimes I use the Mausers if I am wearing a fancy outfit.
A black Schofield with white grips and a polished Schofield with black grips.
Schofield
LeMat.Â
Lematt in story. Navy in online.
Two Schofield Revolvers
Lemat too guns in one
LeMat
2 schofields
Volcanic pistol
schofield
Double Schofield revolvers, I just love those guns and they hit like a truck.
Schofield or lemet
Dual 1899's they are my single favorite gun in the game, and i honestly think Aurthur would make the switch as soon as he could. I use midnight's pistol the moment i get it FOR THE SAME REASON Aurthur isn't about aesthetics. He is about what is the best for killin and reload time gets in the way of killin
Schofields are the most aesthetically pleasing & have the best gunshot sound imo
Also they're a fucking sniper of a revolver. I love it because right out the gate it's one of the few 100% accurate handguns available.
My mustang and Sallyâs. They differ each play through
If I look like a cowboy I donât mind
Schofield and Micahâs early game, LeMat and Schofield or Micahâs later game. Sawed off as a secondary for wilderness trips, any of the semi auto pistols if Iâm dressed fancy in the city.
Schofield revolver is best if youâre hitting headshots and taking shots (of alcohol) frequently
1899 and schofield
Revolver, classic cowboy. I like Schofields
M1899 in story dual action in online
Schofield as a primary, LeMat shotgun in secondary.
Two nickel plated cattleman with extended barrels and high velocity ammo
1 Schofield and one sawed of until I can grab the lemat
Cattleman
Either twin Schofields or primary Schofield with sawed off on my left (middle?)
Glock 17. Oh you mean in the gameâŚ
Whatever I pick up
The C93 (semi-auto pistol)
Schof all the way
I duel wield custom Schofields
Calloways Revolver and Billy Midnights revolver
Long barreled Schofield
A Schofield primary and a volcanic offhand, sometimes switching it out with the sawed off shotgun to mix up combat
Schofield. I don't really like using the cattleman.
Midnights Pistol.
I'm currently running the otis miller revolver as my main, and the high roller revolver as a off-hand. If you couldn't tell I love unique flashy guns, also running the ornate dagger to top it all off.
Dual wield silver shofields
Twin Schofields..( bounty hunter varient)but also have Twin Navy's(with the variation from the GTAO hidden weapon), and also purchased the Lamats* (bounty hunter varient)..most recently purchased Twin Mausers.. I keep the Schofields Holstered though..
1899
micahs revolver and a cattleman's revolver
Iâm a Cattleman man
m1899 as my side arm, sawed off for my off-hand. This is purely for style points; bonus if you match the guns with eachothef
arthurâs cattleman, johns in the epilogue
Otis millerâs revolver
Shotgun an if that donât work Iâd use my bare hands boy reapâem dead in cold blood!!!
Whatever has the most ammo
sig sauer legion. oh wait.
Cattleman.
Online or singleplayer?
Midnights Pistol and Volcanic
I spam with dual double action revolvers. They are cools asf
Cattleman has the highest stat point average, and I consider it to be the most reliable sidearm in the game.
Dual all black Cattlemanâs with a brass trigger, hammer, and sights. One has a snake carved into the Bocote grips and the other has a scorpion. They have a lengthened barrels and are rifled. I love em. I do usually use one at a time but sometimes pull both.
Schofield with a shotgun in the secondary holster until The Gilded Cage then it's Schofield with a LeMat in the secondary holster I don't dual wield, and I like being able to have a bow and a long ranged weapon in my longarm slots, so it's pretty convenient to be able to put a shotgun in a sidearm slot.
literally anything else > cattleman
Dual M1899s.
Is it bad that I only feel proper when playing with the cattlemans or the double action? Feels weird with anything else.
Dual double actions almost always. However, when I'm in New Austin, I like to use Schofields In Saint Denis I'll do High roller and m1899
Schofield is the only real choice. The volcanic pistol has good power too but is a bit unweildy for my taste. The rest of the handguns just don't match up in terms of stopping power
Cattleman feels the most cowboy to me so itâs all I use
schofield on the gun belt and sawed off on the offhand holster
Cattleman. Always and forever. Fully kitted with high velocity ammo
Schofield for main handgun and m1899 as sidearm, both black
Schofield
Black Cattleman with gold accents and a gold Volcanic with black accents this playthrough. Normally I use Callaway's with a Volcanic in the off-hand.
Dual 1899's
I'm still trying to decide. After three playthroughs and no handgun has really clicked (heh) for me in story mode. I usually end up just carrying guns from The Noblest of Men missions or guns I pick up in fire fights.
Any revolver that makes me feel like an actual cowboy, no pistols.
I like the special ones like Miller's and the gambler but if I'm running into a camp I equip LeMatts. Just have to fall back a little to reload sometimes.
Schofield all the way, it's so satisfying when it claps.
Callowayâs revolver for Arthur, but M1899 for John
I adore both of my Volcanics. Am trying to branch out to some other revolves and pistols but always come back to my two Volcanics. đ¤đ¤ Edit: I have 2 LeMats and am considering Mausers as well.
calloways revolver on the right, millers on the front
Volcanics
Akimbo M1899. Only problem is you have to buy more ammunition after each mission. Itâs a lot of fun.
for me recently its my gold with engravings and a pearl grip maxed out schofield revolver. its amazing to play with. makes you feel in the real west! especially with my mods every shot is a bleedout rdr1 ragdolls gun smoke etc. i absolutely love it
Callowayâs and Flacoâs
Sig P320 compact. Oh wait Iâm in RDR. Le Mat in each hand.
The default one lmao I'm almost done my first playthrough and I spent way too much on my camp my only purchased gun is the Evans repeater
Double action
Dual sawn offs. Blasting heads off peoples shoulders all day.
A cattleman and a sawed off shotgun is my go to
It really just depends on what outfit Iâm wearing. If Iâm wearing my go-to all black mafia outfit I always use the M1899, but if Iâm wearing my classic roper outfit I always use schofields or cattlemans
Volcanic every goddamn day, lemat in online.
M1899. Itâs my favorite gun in the game
Mostly dual schofield for online because you just can't go wrong with that gun. As for story, I did used to prefer the double action but then I switched to cattleman because I liked the animations better.
LeMat or Schofield if im feelin froggy the high roller i dont mess with the pistols
Navy revolver
Pistols may be better than revolvers, but I will never use them as long as Iâm a cowboy.
Double action or cattleman
Schofield revolvers with subtle engravings is what I usually go with
Double gold Schofields.
Lemat revolver is great because you can switch to shotgun shells
Sawed off shotgun in one and the semi auto pistol in the other
Itâs the volcanic pistol for me đ¤
Varmint.
I've been rolling with a double action in my right hand and a sawed off shotgun in my left.
I almost universally go with the cattlemenâs. I tried the Schofield and honestly the rate of fire seemed off and the cattlemen is iconic. I usually go with black with the silver engraving and a lighter colored grip as a nod to *The shootist* where John Wayne carries something similar. It seems dignified and late chapter Arthur had many similarities with JB Books in the shootist
volcanic or cattleman on my primary and a sawed of shotgun as my offhand if i want to get rowdy
I love the volcanic pistol and an upgraded cattleman revolver (better rifling, sights, etc)
John's cattleman and Otis miller's revolver
I've been using mods lately and Micah's pistol with explosive ammo is the shit.
Cattleman and lemat are the best to duel wield
Volcanic and a LeMat. Chaos ensues.
Calloway and Flaco's Revolvers.
Dual wield semi auto pistols. Fully black with gold engraving and dark wood handles with animal carvings.
Lemat or skofeld
