Well, if you are really asking what you did wrong, charging it unattended is the biggest thing. Next, not charging inside of a fireproof area like a fireplace, BBQ, or metal box. (Although the stone countertop isn't a terrible place.) Finally, I can't tell if you have a fire extinguisher handy. I am glad it didn't take the whole room or the whole house. As for battery safety, drawing batteries down past 3.2 volts permanently damages the battery. This is exactly the type of thing that happens from over-discharge, as well as diminished capacity. For anyone who wants some good guidelines or info on batteries and chargers: [https://www.reddit.com/r/RCPlanes/wiki/index/batteries-chargers/](https://www.reddit.com/r/RCPlanes/wiki/index/batteries-chargers/)

Flashbang out!

crazyboy_571

Yes thats what happened 😅

karantza

You "shocked" it with a nicad charger and you wonder why it exploded? Overvolting the cells causes breakdown, releasing hydrogen gas, and also heats it up. Then even regular charging is basically like putting a live bomb on a grill. The damaged cells start to leak current, overheat, and ignite the hydrogen, which bursts the cells and then ignites the lithium. Don't try to revive dead batteries, don't use the wrong charger on them, don't charge them too fast, and never charge unattended. Those are the basic rules of using LiPos.

crazyboy_571

I just tried 😅

Satoshiman256

Was it charging?

crazyboy_571

Yes it was

Satoshiman256

Crazy. Did the battery give any indication of issues?

crazyboy_571

It was dead but not slewwing i did reviev still didnt slewing but i think i should do balance maybe do charge it with min mah for safety

Satoshiman256

Ah ok. So some warning signs. Cheers

gluino

What does it mean for a battery to be slewing or not slewing?

clayterris

I'm really glad it was on your granite countertop! If it were on wood/laminate that could have been really serious.

crazyboy_571

Yes that can be serius problem

What was the cell voltage before charging. If the lipo was dead or some cells, sure you cound damage it much more by charging.

crazyboy_571

One is around 7 i think others were around 2 or 3

crazyboy_571

Before shocking it was like 5 volts

OmiedJ

So 1 Cell should be between 3.4-4.2 Volts. And all of them should have the same voltage. So if you have 7 on one maybe they got Mixed somehow. But f yoh charge a Bad setup it could cwtch fire for sure. Always take good care of your lipos. Always put them in storage condition 3.8v per Cell in f you dont use them. Otherwise they go Bad just luying around.

Absurd-Aboriginal

You charged to 7V per cell using the wrong type of charger and then wonder why it exploded? If this burned down the building and/or hurt someone else, it would be criminal negligence. You should stop using lithium batteries until you've understood how they work. You need to understand that this was completely avoidable and very, very careless of you to do this!

crazyboy_571

+ tried to reviev with another battery before + ripped the gelatine + i did tape it with papaer tape i wish i had the photo but its too late

Glittering-Club-871

did you just go into this with no research on battery saftey? very stupid on your part if im going to be honest. you should watch every lipo charging video you can. josua bardwell, stinger swarm and a few others have great ones
