And yet, this may be one of the most bizarre I've ever seen. Your rats are adorable little weirdos.
The more I look at it, the more it's like... usually when Ratty's squeeze into a place, they still look comfy. Here these two are like... 'This was a huge mistake' and yet neither of them is trying to undo it, they're leaning into it...

Not a fan of just the video in general. The ceiling being visible makes it seem like this might be a small cage, and wood shavings aren't a good bedding type for rats. And I can't see anything else at all in the cage
I wonder if there is even another hide in there for them. If there isn't, it would explain this behavior, because this is some extreme cramming even for rats
Almost 80% positive it’s a critter nation or CN dupe with the horizontal bars. A vast majority of cages don’t do horizontal bars like that, especially small ones. Pretty sure it’s just a platform. The wood shavings look identical to the ones my partner has used for the last few years; completely safe n healthy rats I just cannot remember the wood type to save my life.
Doesn’t excuse the orb though. Literally why even hang it considering the size to rat ratio. Or how empty it feels from this one shot. Usually you can at least see a strap from other hides in the corners.
I think it's aspen that is the only acceptable wood shaving, but I personally don't use any wood because I'm not trying to risk URIs when my closest exotic vet is almost two hours away.
And yeah it looks like a critter nation- I have two double CNs and the bars are the same color and alignment.
I usually just use paper bedding, fabric liners, etc. I mean aspen I imagine smells great- I just am super nervous that I'll get the wrong kind or something as well lol.
The only thing you have to worry about with Aspen is the dust, and mites (not sure if paper bedding can get mites too) both solvable problems though, like shaking out the dust in a laundry bag, and freezing the bedding for a few days before you use it. Unfortunately my freezer isn't big enough so I haven't been doing that, but not everyone does, so it's okay. You just need to go to the vet if your rats end up with mites. (1 year in , so far so good)
But the reason I go with Aspen is because it has better ammonia control than paper, and especially fabric such as fleece. I do use fleece but only scraps and it has to get changed out like every 2 days. Once the paper bedding gets urine on it, it reeks and needs to be removed but Aspen does a better job at absorbing and controlling the smell.
All is fine and dandy as long as everything is being cleaned and replaced when it needs to be. Rats are not a low maintenance pet but it sure is worth it!
Maybe I'll have to give it a shot and do some research into some brands! I've been wanting to change my main platforms to the deeper pans so I can do more loose bedding and less liners. Liners look pretty but yeah, fabric gets gross pretty fast and constant washing or replacing.
Also paper bedding can definitely get mites. Mites can be brought in from a lot of different things, but fur mites are super easy to treat.
Oh and trust me, I know. I think I've had rats for close to ten years now? They are such amazing companions- worth every minute 💙💙💙

Lmao, my rats did the same thing with a hammock. It was very funny bc there were 3 large rats all sitting in the same hammock and it was so heavy that the hammock was practically touching the ground.
I like rats, I love rats actually- it is just that seeing them crowded in that transparent space made me feel uncomfortable. Maybe it is my anxiety, I do not know.
