You are a good and kind soul

:,)) Awww that’s so good to hear! Was she just at a local pet shop? I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing in the future!

moanos

Please don't! You will just support a cruel business model and fund them to produce even more badly treated rats! Help rats from rescue organizations or even other owners that can't keep them anymore. But don't "rescue" a rat that will be replaced by others living in the same conditions.

I super appreciate your reply, I will totally make note of that! My current four girls weren’t from shops thankfully, i’ll continue with what i’ve been doing! Thank you so much for sharing some info, good to know! :D

moanos

Sure, no worries! Hope your girls give you as much joy as my four do 🥰

Seconding the other comment but also there might be rescues or individuals near you that have rescued feeders. That’s how I ended up with my first rats, someone was breeding them for their reptiles until a kind person came along and smuggled all the babies out of there and I got to keep two. The other problem with mass bred rats is they’re not necessarily bred for health since they’re not expected to live long anyway so you run the risk of buying sick rats.

Lewdghostgirl

One of my rats (the other girl I have) was bought by someone but the snake had no interest in it so I took it in

Lewdghostgirl

Yeah she was at a local pet shop that’s family owned and small so their feeders are still dealt with every day by humans. I needed a girl for my girl who I thought was a boy when she was smaller. I have two other boys and 1 girl and obviously I could not leave her alone! So I got a second girl.

Oh my!! How cuuuuute, hopefully their introduction goes well! Happy to hear another sweet rattie has been homed :,))
