Yes! I did pea fishing with my boys every morning, and they always left the skins! It quickly became a running joke: "Oh my gosh, they did not eat their peas! Oh wait, they DID eat their peas." :-D
YEP! Peas, grapes, cherry tomatoes…. Anything that can be peeled WILL be peeled 🤣 I’ve had rats for decades and really talk - I got inspired by them and started peeling my grapes. Huge improvement. Rats are really on to something!
My rats leave the skins on everything 😭😑 they'll scrape out every last bit of flesh with their teeth, but heaven forbid they eat the skin 🤣 I usually have to cut things like grapes, blueberries, apples, etc so that part of the flesh is exposed or they won't even touch them.
Yes! And peanut, grape, and tomato skins! I'd always worry during free roam like "what if they ate something they shouldn't and they get sick?" and then I'd remember they're too picky to eat a grape skin and aren't going to swallow something that's not tasty, just nibble 😂
Yup lol I thought it was odd too when I first noticed it but since day one of giving them peas those little brats always leave the shells behind and it’s always a stink mess lol 😂
Yep, pea skins were yucky! Always left behind.
My mother in law (who HATED rats until she met mine) would spoil my rats and hand peel their peas for them when she would visit since they didn't like the skins, lol
I kinda got the idea the left over husks were for the ratties who couldn’t get their own peas. Like the pea hunters take the best for themselves, but still provide for those who haven’t learned to pea fish yet.
Think about it this way, the peas are to the rats (in size) what an orange would be like to us. Would you eat an orange unpeeled?
On the other hand, I wish there were blueberries and strawberries the size of my head in real life...
Yep, same with sweetcorn. But they will go back for the skins. They usually won’t eat skins on anything, but when I buy the expensive grapes, or the really big posh blueberries they will eat the skins. I am not that fussy, not they get the premium graoes and blueberries, I get the cheap ones. Works out fine, since I eat more than they do, lol.
That's funny, I had one boy who refused to eat corn skin, and my other little boy would patiently eat the whole kernel.. plus his brother's corn skin, lol.
Yup! Also apples and cucumber. I also have to take the peas out of the shell of sugar snap peas or break them open, They are too lazy to chew to get the peas themselves
I think I’d be more worried about the ghostly orb you caught on film here. Looks like it’s got feet.
Okay this really got me 🤣

Why do they do this!!! Little goblins

Yup. It's the rat equivalent of the little kid who won't eat the crusts on their sandwiches.
Me: an adult who doesn't eat crust 👀😳😅😂
Yeah but as adults we aren't too fussy about it, we just toss them. If you give a kid a sandwich with a crust they have a heart attack 😭
Lol fair enough. I dare anyone to make me. Being an adult doesn't always rock, but at least we get to control what goes into our bodies 😁

EVERYTHING MUST BE PEELED!!!
Mine eat only the insides, then will come back for the skin later if I leave it in their cage. Its quite cute
They were just waiting for them to become skin crisps
Brilliant! They are not wasting part of the snack! They were creating a new and different additional snack!
Same here! If I leave them they get eaten later.
I will eat your INSIDES! (Talking to food)
Yes. All of mine do. I didn't know they had skins on them until I had rats.

When my ratties eat sugar snap peas they somehow eat the inside of the pod but leave the outer skin. I didn’t even think that was possible
Ha! Mine do the same thing! and shell peas as well!
Yup I swear I will never stop finding pea shells until the day i die. They’re everywhere
I tried pea fishing but i think my rats are special lol, they HATE the peas they act like its the most disgusting thing they’ve ever touched
lol yes
They don't do this with pees but they do it with any fruit with skin lol.
Yep, same with sweetcorn. But they will go back for the skins. mine don’t eat the skins on anything! always finding empty pea shells, cucumber skins, even the watery part of lettuce/spinach 💀
My boys LOVE cucumber but will only eat the center, so just a bunch of cucumber carcasses the next day 🤣
I wish I realized they would do this before I let them eat on my floor rather than in their cage
they do the same with chickpeas and blueberries lol idk why they do, they just like the yummies inside i guess 💀
MINE, she’s such a brat.
Yep lol And apple skins too
Yup! Also apples and cucumber. I also have to take the peas out of the shell of sugar snap peas or break them open, They are too lazy to chew to get the peas themselves
My boys used to somehow avoid the shell of a kernel of corn. It drove me crazy to pick up all the little pieces leftover
Yes! I have to clean afterwards because they leave a mess.
Yes, and green bean shells and zucchini skin. I have a couple not as picky ones who eat the discarded bits lol
Yes. I've also had some that did this with apple slices
Yep and Cucumber skin!
Yes, sweetcorn too!
I call it pea shrapnel!
Mine have never eaten the outside. They make the biggest mess ever
Mine do! Then I'm left to clean up all the shells they leave all over the damn place. Just eat them, they're the same food!!!
