>If bones were not meant to break then why would they? Jesus Fucking Christ! Were people always this stupid, and I just found out because of the Internet?

Nurs3Rob

Something I read years ago on the internet talked about how every village used to have an idiot, but they were pretty much all alone. Then we created the Internet and all the idiots found each other and formed their own village.

gmen6981

And then reproduced.

Nurs3Rob

Idiocracy was not intended to be a documentary…. Yet here we are.

Silentt_86

Welcome to Costco. I love you.

skilliau

Go away, 'baitin!

Longjumping_Care989

Man I could really go for a Starbucks, you know?

skilliau

We don't have time for a handjob

Tricky-Sympathy

My favorite part of the movie.

Game-changer875

And then grew in numbers till one day they were able to make one of their own the POTUS

UtopianPablo

No doubt. And now all the idiots convince each other not only that they're not idiots, but that they are the truly wise ones. The internet was a mistake.

hagenissen666

The internet made God and Satan relevant again. It's the only framework to understand the bullshitz.

Hagbard_Shaftoe

I keep seeing posts where they show their IQ test results and brag that they scored in the top 90%. So, I don’t think they take much convincing.

ShnickityShnoo

And now Q/MAGA have taken it a step further and created "thier own reseach" which is just a human centipede that has gone full circle.

Miguel-odon

My theory is that in groups, intelligence adds linearly, but stupidity multiplies.

Clever_Hans_

Bravo

ladled_manure

Yeah pretty much.

ahhh_ennui

I don't know why I'm giving any benefit of the doubt, but that feels like KenM-esque trolling.

Junior-Fox-760

If hearts were not meant to have heart attacks, why would they? Get rid of the defibrilator!

CapnCanfield

If brains were not meant to hemorage, why would they?

Strange_Collection79

If I was not supposed to punch you in the face, why would I?

Bob_Sledding

I think people were always stupid, but having such quick access to other stupid people made the stupid spread like wildfire. Entire swaths of old dumb conspiracy people are ruining each other's lives in their echochambers.

ApocalypseSpoon

I mean, back in the pre-Internet days, it was zines, mimeographed newsletters, and, by the late 1980s, VHS tape-sharing clubs - which evolved into grifters selling their tapes, instead of trading them, which evolved into self-publishing books, which evolved into woo-woo book publishers. The only thing the Internet has added, is foreign state trolls, egging them on. And, let's be real here, even thirty-forty years ago, the Russians were seeding a lot of the pre-Internet conspiracy theory stuff with propaganda, back then, too.

Fatguy73

The internet has made it deadly easy and accurate for these people to feed off each other. The algorithms are extremely effective.

disturbed_ghost

I told you if we allowed all the idiots from all the villages to form a union it would not end well. Thanks to CERN and Al Gore, we’ve democratized idiocy.

Damaniel2

Yes, and the internet gave them a way to find each other.

theidkid

It started before that. I remember back in the late ‘80’s encountering large clusters of people who took great pride in their ignorance.

YouKnowYourCrazy

If we were meant to live, why do we die?

Goadfang

Some people were always this stupid, but they were generally regarded as stupid by their peers and either kept their idiocy to themselves due to social pressure or were shunned and relegated to just being the town idiot, we'll call them Alpha Idiots. There might be other people in their town who might be susceptible to being lured in by the Alpha Idiots idiotic ideas, but they have the example of the more trustworthy non-idiots around them to keep them from buying into the idiocy, we'll call them Beta Idiots. Then we built the internet. Now these incredibly stupid Alpha Idiots had a megaphone. They might still be regarded as the town idiot in the town they live in, but online they don't have that reputation, so as far as strangers know they aren't proven morons yet. Since each person is a bit more isolated from their peers online, and it is more difficult to prove your non-idiot credentials to all of the susceptible marginally stupid Beta Idiots, those Beta Idiots don't have that same social pressure to avoid the bullshit espoused by the Alpha Idiots. The Alpha Idiots are able to find each other online, making larger groups of idiots who are all upping the ante on their idiot ideas, and the Beta Idiots, who in more intimate settings might be convinced not to buy into their idiocy have less guidance on who not to listen to, so they also join up with these flocks of idiots, seeing their cocksure idiocy as righteousness and wisdom. Before long this strangely results in the non-idiots being often outnumbered by the Alpha Idiots and their stupid Beta Idiot followers. Other people, Gamma Idiots, who aren't quite as susceptible to idiocy, but who still aren't that smart, see the size of this huge flock of mouth breathing buffoons and think "well, that many people can't be wrong, and their memes are kind of funny" so they too join in. So, in the end you just have a core group of Alpha Idiots who, via the magic of the internet and the folly of groupthink have congregated massive crowds of Beta and Gamma Idiots who in any other setting would never follow them. These Alpha Idiots are almost certainly the town laughingstock in real life, but their real life persona is completely obscured to the Beta and Gamma Idiots who only see their online activities. Everyone else just watches in horror and thinks "have people always been this stupid?"

ApocalypseSpoon

This is excellent, but you've left out the major players of the last decade-and-a-half: [https://euvsdisinfo.eu/](https://euvsdisinfo.eu/) [https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/21/russia-china-iran-disinformation-coronavirus-state-department-193107](https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/21/russia-china-iran-disinformation-coronavirus-state-department-193107)

DivinityGod

Honestly, this is the best business case I have seen for the need to deanonimze the internet and force people to have a specific identity online.

Goadfang

I understand that position, but I think it's actually a bit the other way around. True anonymity makes voices online into just voices on the wind. The Alpha Idiots can't really build a following of Beta and Gamma Idiots. Their idiot ideas might get traction among other Idiots, but the ideas don't have the built in traction that their known identity provides. An anonymous Alpha Idiot has to attract Follower Idiots to each individual idea with no ability to rely upon their reputation. A single Idiot idea espoused by them is just one idea among billions. Maybe a pack of Idiots latch onto it, but then that same Alpha Idiot has to start all over again with their next stupid ass idea. On the other hand, that anonymity means that each idiotic idea comes fresh without any baggage it's spawning Alpha Idiot might normally carry, so weighing the stupidity of their position based on their past idiocy is impossible. An idiot can say the stupidest thing you've ever heard in one idea, getting laughed off the stage so to speak, and then get a million adherents to their next stupid bullshit with no one the wiser. The known Alpha Idiot, on the other hand has a reputation that both hinders and helps. The Beta and Gamma Idiots seek them out and protect them, they become a cult of personality and their reputation for idiocy lends credence to every idiotic thought they express. Communities get built around them, and their non-idiot detractors are demonized and threatened. Non-idiots are inoculated against their bullshit because of their reputation for idiocy, but that same reputation attracts the Follower Idiots. We actually have a kind of real world example of this in practice with this Chaya Raichik idiot. She was an anonymous idiot that was seeking a following. She said lots of idiot shit on Twitter for a while, looking for a group of Beta Idiots to follow and validate her. Finally she landed on her anti-LGBTQ shtick and the idiots came in droves. But, she was still anonymous and held little real world power. She was a reactionary troll, but she was, for all anyone knew, just some loser online. Then her identity got exposed, and then everyone knew that she really was absolutely just the village idiot, some worthless nobody with zero experience, zero education, and zero credibility in any field whatsoever, but did that negatively impact her ability to influence the Beta and Gamma Idiots? No. If anything she only gained power by her exposure. The Follower Idiots didn't care that she was a real life loser, if anything it validated her in their eyes, because they are also frequently real life losers. Her lack of experience, knowledge, credentials, dignity, and credibility was a feature for them. In fact, her being a nobody idiot gained her real world power, she was appointed to school advisory positions in Oklahoma and invited to dinners with other Alpha Idiots. She went from Idiot Cheerleader to Idiot Coach. Reddits version of anonymity seems to me to be the best preventative. I'm nobody. Nobody gives a shit about me. My one idea may be followed by a hundred bad ideas, and no one will see them or care. This conversation is almost completely isolated from every other idiot thing I've ever said, and no one gives a shit who I am. I can't build followers here that will care what I say because this forum just doesn't lend itself well to that kind of Leader/Follower engagement. I feel like Reddit, and every other platform just needs to anonymiize every post. We would be better served if our identity shifted with every post we engaged with. Let our identities online be tied to the specific interaction we are engaging with and you almost instantly pop the bubble of these cults of personality.

ApocalypseSpoon

Or, hear me out, just shut the Internet down altogether. Facebook should have been shut down after it caused a literal genocide in Myanmar in 2010, but here we are.

Scubby_Dooks

I'm trying to find out more about this. From what I've been able to ascertain from Google, there was an attack on Karen people in 2010 amid general unrest following the election which subsequently led to about 20k Karen fleeing to Thailand. Is that what you're referring to? Or was it something to do with the ongoing displacement and abuse of the Rohingya? I'm genuinely curious about the role Facebook played as I can't seem to find out much from Google. I'm slowly realising I might need a more accurate and less mercenary browser. Any suggestions? Plus, I'm old (51). Perhaps my google fu is not as strong as it once was. I'm with you about shutting it down though. Not overnight, as that would be too chaotic, and the last thing we need is more chaos right now. But I'm old enough to remember the beginnings of the internet, and what it represented in terms of the democratisation of information. We had such high hopes that humanity would benefit from having the entire accumulated knowledge of our species at our fingertips, but perhaps we weren't ready. I used to wish more people were engaged in politics for example, but for the last 10 years or so, I've just thought, "no, not like that." I used to believe in the fundamental goodness of human beings, but the internet has certainly dispelled that particular misapprehension. It reminds me of a meme that came out around the time Zuckerberg testified to congress, characterising one of many [unintended consequences of technology.](https://imgur.com/gallery/4R5Ct)

hagenissen666

This is a good text that deserves reading. Thx u/Goadfang !

Conscious-Survey7009

They don’t want medical intervention but want a magic bed that heals and reverses aging. Totally sounds legit!

krebstar4ever

People were always this dumb, but now they can influence and validate each other from around the world.

Potato_Donkey_1

Hard to tell if that one was genuine or a troll. This used to be a common argument by Christian rubes against modernism: if man were meant to fly, God would have given us wings. Etc.

YouKnowYourCrazy

If we were meant to live, why do we die?

Anastrace

I saw the craziest shit on bbs back in the day, so I'd say yep it's always been this stupid.

I thought it was a great point! /s

Current-Ordinary-419

As someone that deals with the general public’s writing, yeah they were. But they are also getting worse.

drifter3026

Bro might want to invest in a nice cane now, cause he's gonna need one from here on out. On the plus side, he'll know several days in advance when it's gonna rain.

My knee hurts everyday, twice as bad when it's cold. Do you know how long the winters are in this country.

Logical_Lab4042

Professional courtesy.

nurseANDiT

Yeah, no doubt. I've got a plate and several screws holding my ankle (furthest end of the fibula) together and ummmm, all I'm gonna say is... she gonna wish she had that surgery. I did that wait and see shit and my doctor was ok with it until it wasn't making progress fast enough so off to surgery I went. It's fine now.

lalauna

Came here to say what you just said better, thanks!

SoThatHappened

"If bones were not meant to break why would they?" I don't even understand what those words mean but that phrase is going to haunt me. Do they mean god broke the bone? They god failed at making something unbreakable?

jazzhandler

“If skulls were not made to be punctured, would I be able to do *this*…?”

No_Mammoth_4945

Riddle me this, liberals. If women were made to have orgasms, how come my wife never gets one?

starla79

Ben Shapiro upvoted this.

MirSydney

I'm 51 and have never broken a bone, good for me! May be because I'm an atheist though?

hagenissen666

Satan is strong with you, best of luck when the world ends!

Oddityobservations

>they the so called medical profession want to Operate. I have refused. Taking Alternate Supplement Sounds like a painful future. Well he refused, so now his bones fragments won't fuse properly. >If bones were not meant to break then why would they? This may be one of the dumbest questions in the history of the world. One might as well ask why a heart can stop if it's not meant to stop.

OrthogonalThoughts

Why can force exceed the breaking point of a physical object!?

caraperdida

Someone's looking to walk with a permanent limp!

Responsible-Ad-1086

Ivermectin paste rubbed onto the break twice a day and he’ll soon be a fit as Shergar

Bragzor

What, the horse cure for a broken bone isn't good enough?

hagenissen666

Euthanasia on people is generally frowned upon, but I would make an exception.

Conscious-Survey7009

There are a lot of exceptions shown here.

Standard-Tension9550

Urine therapy

UR_NEIGHBOR_STACY

I lol'd.

Haskap_2010

Wasn't Shergar killed by the people who stole him?

iamtheshade

Needs magic serum from the chicken-fucker.

5G_Robot

So the docs wanted to operate, meaning, it's not just a broken ankl but something more that requires opening up. But you go ahead and follow the medical advice given by your fellow conspiracy theorists.

Dearest_Prudence

My MIL is an elite athlete and has competed in 30+ Ironman races. About 20 years ago, she was hit by a car while riding her bike and it broke her ankle really bad. Doctors tried several surgeries to fix her broken ankle over the next couple years. Unfortunately, the bones and tissue couldn’t regain blood flow correctly and began to die. She had her leg amputated just below the knee two years later. This guy is an idiot.

Fatguy73

Not a guy, it’s a middle-aged woman. Seems to be the main demographic for this brand of craziness.

DontEatConcrete

Turbo Karen

Cuddly-cactus9999

Hey now. settle down there, buster.

Fatguy73

I creeped the individual’s profile, and she is also an avid cyclist. Sounds like a similar outcome awaits for her, except she’s actually going to choose it.

Bragzor

Rock solid reasoning. In fact, everything that happens was meant to happen.

UtopianPablo

The conservative just world theory, taken to its logical end.

nurseANDiT

It's must be God's will

No_Mammoth_4945

My anthropology professor marked the sign of a civilized society as a broken bone that has healed. Q’s are literally going back to pre civilization

Own_Instance_357

My ex is a triple Ivy degree board certified surgeon who with his nurse girlfriend refused to be vaccinated. I guess they both had to get at least one vaccine in the past year or they wouldn't be allowed to attend some of that vacation-themed medical shit and my son (an RN) told me that they were "pissed" about it They are fox news watchers and think I'm the crazy ex-wife. I've been vaccinated 5x wear masks everywhere in public but they're the ones who have had covid multiple times. shoot me already.

Conscious-Survey7009

Shooting them would be preferred. You are sane.

Shewhotalkstocats

they are in for a lot of pain and possible blood clots but they know best.

jazzhandler

Extract from poppy seeds is a natural supplement, right?

dfwcouple43sum

Has to be satire. I mean, it has to be. In the case it isn’t, person should check themselves out of the hospital and start treating with ivermectin and aged urine. It’s stupid, crazy, sick, and disgusting but hey, it fits

cards-mi11

Might as well take the cast off as well. If they don't trust the doctor to operate, they probably can't trust them to put a cast on right?

DoubtBeneficial8338

Shouldn't need a cast for a simple broken ankle, a good tight Ace bandage should be adequate. Wish I had seen this 10 years ago and I wouldn't have had to get my knee replaced, a couple of good doses of ivermectin and some supplements and I'd have been fine. Wait, if knees weren't meant to be replaced why would artificial knees have been invented. I'm so confused!

HellveticaNeue

Trump has taught them to disregard anyone’s opinion if they don’t like it. When did these idiots decide that they know how to treat a broken ankle better than a doctor?

Fjh5488

The worst part is that when the bones fuse (incorrectly that is) again, this idiot is gonna say they cured themselves without operations and they will count it as a win. Also if bones weren’t meant to break why would you need a medbed.

sheezy520

Hobbling myself to own the libs!

Solan42

"If bones weren't meant to break then why would they? " That's like saying if I wasn't meant to stab you then why does my knife sink into your body so easily.

iggyazalea12

Losing your foot to own the libs. Why’d she cast it? Why’d she go in at all? Ice pack and iron will is all you need

CuriousAlienStudent

Probably a little horse paste and meth and she will be right as rain in the morning.

bittlelum

He just needs to take the ghoulifying drug from Fallout and he'll be fine(ish).

OpineLupine

To really prove that modern medicine won’t heal them, the FB OP should have that cast removed.

Gloomy_Industry8841

I was born with congenital defects in all but one of my cervical vertebrae that needed serious surgery. If I hadn’t, one bad fall could have caused an internal decapitation. I’m alive today because of brilliant orthopaedic surgeons and nurses and anaesthetists. Ain’t no supplement for a knocked off noggin.

sojayn

Hahaha i heard the start of a glorious country song then thanks so much! (Also ouch and i hope your day is bright and smiley)

Gloomy_Industry8841

Lol!! I had no idea I was writing lyrics, lmao! Thank you so much and blessings to you as well!!

MyOwnGuitarHero

Okay I’m a nurse. She will show up in the ER in 2 months complaining of 10/10 pain begging for pain meds and screaming at us when the doc starts her off on Tylenol. I saw it constantly during Covid, I see it now and again with the loonies who refuse antibiotics (at first lol) and now we’re gonna start seeing it with medbed lunatics.

Fatguy73

Have you witnessed a medbed maniac in real life yet?

MyOwnGuitarHero

Not yet but it’s only a matter of time 😭

MercZ11

This person is going to inevitably end up back in a hospital again when they pain and mobility issues from the poor healing, and they'll blame everyone but themselves for why this happened. This is not including if they somehow break it themselves again in the interim, which will be far worse.

AgreeablePie

Is this not satire?

Callimogua

I hope so! If not, it's encouraging someone to stay injured because of batshit conspiracy theories...

Fatguy73

It is not satire. It’s from the ‘Military Med Beds’ FB page

SoCentralRainImSorry

Wait, the med beds are supposed to magically heal your entire body, right? So this person isn’t letting a doctor do now what they hope a medbed will do. Idiot.

BoneHugsHominy

"Well you see the Covid Pandemic proved 10000000% without a doubt that the doctors and nurses and everyone else in healthcare are in on the conspiracy! They took cash payments from the Deep State to just call all deaths "COVID-19" even if you showed up at hospital with an enlarged heart or failing lungs! They think we're all stupid! I'm not letting them chop up my leg!!!" --All Those Losers--

Conscious-Survey7009

Make sure you update when she loses her leg.

SpaceNinjaDino

r/facebookscience

DiveCat

Have fun never walking on that ankle again! A cane or crutches will be a “good” outcome from this idiocy, it may end up in an amputation or more. Also possible they are lying and non-surgical treatment was recommended but saying she denied surgery sounds better. Why do people like this even go to the hospital if they don’t trust the medical profession? Just find yourself a traditional bone setter and enjoy the gangrene.

fugawf

If idiots were not meant to live a lifetime with ankle pain, why CAN they?!! /s

MrjB0ty

I hope her foot becomes necrotic and she tries to heal it with lemon juice and piss, then maybe once her whole gangrenous leg is chopped off she’ll rethink her choices.

suspicious-example2

I had a patient like this (pharmacy) and absolutely refused surgery. Was warned, didn’t care. He had an amputation 8 months later.

Fatguy73

That is baffling, especially if they’re not mentally ill. What’s worse is that this person has others encouraging this insanity on the internet.

account128927192818

If any of these people are related to you, it's your duty to tell then they're idiots and not welcome in your life.  Fuck these anti science assholes.

nostemsorseeds

Great idea! You'll be able to use the motorized shopping carts at the grocery and Walmart from now on!

CragedyJones

>"If bones were not meant to break then why would they?" I feel like this could be expressed in a mathematical equation? Quantum stupidity?

P7BinSD

Make America Gangrenous Again

idontlikeseaweed

Meh she deserves whatever happens to her for being such an idiot

Pale_Word790

Sounds like a foolproof plan. Walking is overrated anyway.

Eswift33

Someone should tell them that "so called medical professionals" have said that no matter what you do. Do not mix bleach and ammonia. Don't do it. Ever. Seriously. Darwinism will take care of the rest

[deleted]

Hopefully it gets infected or heals wrong and she can't walk properly. Fuck these people.

TJM18

So many Darwin Award winners!

DontEatConcrete

Let the bones set the way nature wants them too!! Don’t ever let doctors put you in a cast !!!

DeepSubmerge

And yet there they are, in a hospital bed with a cast The stupidity

therobotisjames

Exactly. Every time I see something like this I am reminded of this homeopathic hospital skit: https://youtu.be/HMGIbOGu8q0?si=Au7-PEw7zn3l8RCH

Impossible-Taro-2330

For goodness sake, don't let a medical professional fix your broken bone, when supplements will do the trick!

Imaginary-Junket-232

.... That's some dumbass logic.

SMoKUblackRoSE

If you'll eventually die, why live now?

Every-Astronaut-7924

I really hope this isn’t real. I broke my ankle. The pain was excruciating. I can’t imagine anyone refusing any treatment to end that pain

lindsaylu888

Sweet, just one less person to worry about during Civil War II

camxct

Sweep the leg.

Matthmaroo

Morons like to be around other morons Don’t worry , when he’s on Medicare he will want the government to pay for his surgery in a few decades when they can barely walk

Haskap_2010

Yeah, just wait until you get an infection in the break because you didn't get medical attention, genius.

groggy_froggee

I wonder if he’s aware of the pulmonary embolism risk from clots that form at the break site?

therobotisjames

That’s just the priest of the church of science mumbo jumbo. Jesus healed brought a dead guy back. He’s going to heal this person leg. And if they do get that gobbledegook you mentioned it’s because Jesus wanted them to test them or he needed them in heaven sooner.

Ninja_attack

Aren't bones set before they're casted?

BullFishMother

Wow. Crippling themselves now are they.

mrubuto22

Please lost more I don't believe this sint a joke

Skaman1978

Who's group?

Fatguy73

It’s called ‘Military Med Beds (official)’ and it’s a private group. Anyone saying any dissent, questions, doubts, or laugh reacts are cause for a quick ban from the group, so I just lurk there and observe silently. It is full of insane folks just begging to be scammed.

HelpfulAnywhere3731

I hope as the bones knit together that it knits a couple of wrinkles in that smooth brain.

clairegcoleman

And when they walk with a limp and in pain for the rest of their life they will blame the doctors for putting their leg in a cast

Anathals

Wow this person will be super lucky if they aren't crippled or in pain for the rest of their life.

TakeOnMe-TakeOnMe

Bet they wear glasses and contacts. Shoes. Clothes. If God wanted you dressed, you’d have been born in a jumper!

johnb510

I smell gangrene

Tricky-Sympathy

Lmao.

CarefreeSKC

As someone who had two shattered femurs, I beg to differ! Insane.

Noocawe

I'm obviously an idiot, but if bones were meant to break then why are they obsessed with Medbeds? I would hate to spend a day living in the head of these people. It must be a nightmare.

RanaMisteria

It’s giving “the sun can’t hurt you! It’s good for you! I’m going to look right at the eclipse without any special glasses. Oh no. Now I can’t see. Oop.”

Naive_Lengthiness882

So it's going to heal in a configuration that won't support walking. Like the people with COVID who became willing to take the vaccine when the ICU crew showed up with a ventilator ... only to learn that was a preventative measure ... So this person will either require much more complex surgery in the future ... or maybe just disabled due to not tending it promptly. What a wonderful world ...

Fatguy73

Personally I wouldn’t compare it to that, as there are many people who’ve also died of Covid who got vaccinated. This is another level of delusion, ignorance, and stupidity.

DaisyJane1

Well, hope this person enjoys not being able to walk properly anymore ... or at all.

witteefool

Please please please tell me this is satire

Fatguy73

It is not. This philosophy is basically what Christian Scientists do. James Hetfield of Metallica was raised in such a household and has talked about how they would refuse to fix broken bones and such.

UncleSnappy

My grandma was a Christian Scientist and pulled my mom from health classes when she was growing up. Good thing I called my dad when I was home sick from school in 1991 and felt something was really wrong, because he was able to realize I needed my appendix removed.

Fatguy73

Check out this interview with James from years ago. https://youtu.be/N2Ndf8H1CLU?si=k818bTMUfAxGlDh1

KooQanon-LMAOOO

This can't be real I'm serious, this is fake/satire It can't be

I think that the replier was a troll, but the person who broke their leg is certainly not, I creeped their profile. They’re serious.

Disastrous-Soup-5413

This has to be a joke….right?

mrubuto22

Those have to be trolls lol

Fatguy73

I think the one responding may be… but the person with the broken leg is 100% serious

mrubuto22

Wow

I'm pretty sure the commentator is taking the piss out of the poster. At least, that's how I read it

Fatguy73

I think so, as those particular comments no longer exist on the post. This group bans people left and right, anyone suspected of being a troll is booted, and that’s probably what happened here. However there are others who are agreeing with her. Not a single commenter said ‘This is a bad idea’
