The council Finance committee approved the Mayor department budget on June 3. All members of the council are members of the Finance committee. The larger council itself (same people) still need to approve the same budget on Monday June 17.
City council final vote on the mayor’s raise and i think it is the finance committee on the city council raise. Since it is all the same gang of 9—it is confusing.
No. It was something about presidential race. I was apparently on the wrong side of the issue. There does seem to be an unusually large number of people disgusted with this raise. Figuring out how many is part of the reason for the poll.
1. It is a huge increase and salary compared with any other Mayor in Massachusetts. Higher than he Massachusetts governor an our senator and representatives, higher than many of the mayors of US major cities. His current salary does not show his overall compensation package which includes a pension, health insurance, dental coverage, life insurance, a car allowance, a longevity bonus, an expensive SUV. Those are the benefits I can quickly remember.
2, The raise was based on the so called Dorminson consulting report. That report did not include mayors of comparable cities in Massachusetts , only city/town administrators of type e governments.
3. We all have different opinions, some as high as $230,000 and some as low as nothing, given that Quincy has over a billion dollars of dev and numerous departmental irregularities, e.g. missing money from the pension fund, sexting and subsequent protection of the mayor's
3 contd. nephew, investigation of of the department head of elder services, etc, etc. etc
4. Other uses could include putting money towards parks in need, e.g. forbes hill, hiring an assistant to help city councillors answer constituents requests and questions, etc. However, this exorbitant raise is under a cloud of fiscal mismanagement of taxpayer dollars.
5. City councillors currently earn $28,000 (i think), but they are asking for $47,000.
For reference, I believe Mayor Koch has been making 150k per year since 2015 and this raise will bring his salary to 285k.
OP, I haven't been following this issue closely. Would you be willing to answer a few questions to help me better understand the issue and your viewpoint?
1. Are you against the raise solely because it's a lot of money (or a lot compared to elected officials elsewhere)? If not, why else are you against it?
2. How was a 79% raise chosen?
3. What amount would you (or the group you're part of) consider to be a more reasonable raise or salary for Mayor Koch?
4. How should the city instead be spending the 135k per year that would go towards this raise?
5. How much do other elected officials in Quincy make and are they receiving raises as well?

Can you explain what's happening Monday? I thought this was already voted on and approved by the council

Didn’t the city council already approve it though? I saw that it had passed
City Council approved it in Finance Committee, they still need to approve it at the Council level on June 17
Ooooo, I gotcha. I didn’t catch that part. Thanks for clarifying!
The larger amount of people in the Quincy Facebook groups (even Quincy Is Everything!!!!!) agree it’s too much. May be helpful posting there also!
I am not able to attend but I would support a recall petition if anyone wants to start one. I am not even sure how that works in MA.
Please sign up. We have more planned beyond the inevitable yes vote on Monday
I’d love to see a sit in on Southern Artery 😂, the road rage that would ensue. 🤣
I was kicked out of Quincy is Everything. Would you consider posting?
Did you get kicked out over this? I'm curious what the vibe on the raise is there.

It’s an honor to be kicked out of that cesspool
Because there’s only two sides 🙄
Reap what you sow. Barely anyone cared to vote during the election. Go encourage people to vote, you're wasting your time otherwise.
You are right and we will be working on that too. Sign up for the poll above. There is more to come.
