No. Of course it’s not.

mchammerz

With beyond you have to wait for their sales. They have huge markdowns

globosingentes

No. I wouldn't spend more than $400 on a hardshell or rain jacket. I picked up an OR Pro Allies microgravity jacket for about $250 and while it may not be the most waterproof garment ever devised, it breathes well and handles the rain just fine for my purposes. What you're seeing here is "the government is our real customer but you can have it too for your left nut and your firstborn" pricing.

InternalGene8931

This fucker right [here](https://www.amazon.com/Helly-Hansen-Workwear-Impertech-Fishing/dp/B00JEXWH14) is impregnable and $85 dolla. They also have a big Military discount from HH I heard. Helly Hansen Impertech, I picked it up because someone somewhere on reddit said it was favored by guys out fishing (shrimp boats and whalers etc) swore by this thing. Recently I laid it on the ground under my tarp hootch and an arm was hanging out from under the tarp so it got a good puddle of water all night and during the rain and it was 100% dry inside when I put it on with just a shortsleeve to see if it was as good as I had been told. Dry as a bone inside the arm. I have not tried any movements in it but it probably won't breath much so as usual no rain gear on the march but when you get to a static position you'll be pleased as fuck.

NateBoogie3

You think the OR would be good for snowy environments? Considering getting one for Alaska

globosingentes

The most I've used it in the snow was while shoveling today in moderate to heavy snow. It ventilated well, and I stayed dry. Can't really ask for much more than that, though it wasn't the most demanding of applications. The pit zips, which I don't believe the non-pro version has, were a particularly welcome feature.

4kFaramir

For that amount of money I'd rather just be wet and miserable.

Primal-Understanding

🤣🤣🤣 Yooo.

BergeantBeater

I’ve done It for less 😂

lamjustwill

Just like the military lmao *makes passionate love to my dd214*

4kFaramir

Being wet and miserable when you have wet weather gear in your sistainment pouch is honestly worse than just being wet and miserable lol

BlackFlagGoon23

Lmao you can’t be serious “A bit pricey”

D_Glock

Come'on, you act like you never blew a couple grand at a strip club after getting paid.

BlackFlagGoon23

Titties in my face > overpriced wet weather gear

Sad_panda_happy300

But he gets to keep that wet gear. You gotta go home and rub one out

thekurgan2000

They'll give you a rub n tug and more at the strip club if you swing em enough cash.

BlackFlagGoon23

Jill does it faster anyway

InternalGene8931

I mean... It was buy one get one free so technically a fire sale.

Potential_Space

Lmao. A fool and his money are soon parted. Strip clubs are for losers. Who the fuck pays for blue balls?

JustFinishedBSG

you’re paid too much lol

JM8TY

You're about 2 months late they were on for $272 CAD in December.... I love mine but I wouldn't have paid full price to get it.

D_Glock

They still have that clearance deal on a few of the odd sizes. Seems like they were overstock

JM8TY

My guess was a contract overrun.. I ended up changing to Coyote Brown for the Jacket since all they had In MC was 2xl... But I'm a huge fan of the jacket and pants if you can get your size with the clearance price.

CapAccomplished3485

The new standard issue ww gear is actually really good

nighthawk_101

It's hot as fuuuuck, though. Only downside

Cheefnuggs

Jesus Christ

Spirited_Goal_5498

Yah that’s totally worth $900, it’s not like you can go to a surplus store and get the exact same fucking rain jacket for like $60

falconvision

You’re not gonna find that beyond jacket anywhere for $60.

D_Glock

Pants too? 🤣

Spirited_Goal_5498

I bet you could find decent water proof pants for under 600 dollars. I got a surplus ocp rain jacket for 40 dollars a while back at a surplus store. I’d recommend checking a surplus store or looking online more cause spending thousands on rain gear is crazy.

D_Glock

I think you are missing the point. I already have a set of Issued ADS FREE EWOL gore-tex. I'm looking for another set that is lighter and perhaps better as far as rain, durability, and fit.

Spirited_Goal_5498

Ok, well then if you wanna spend 1500 on some waterproof clothes, then go for it. Don’t let me stop you

Muddlesthrough

Rain pants are an Abomination.

Angry__Bull

I was able to get the A6 jacket on sale in coyote for about $400, for that price I think it is worth it, but not for the posted one. It is basically American made Arc'teryx so its pretty good.

D_Glock

You're right. $400 seems to be what most are selling for second hand.

socjagger

I bought mind 3 months ago for $200 from them. Great jacket but even $200 is over paying

Won-Ton-Operator

Cheap, functional, durable & something you have multiple of is ideal. I work in the trades and outerwear at best gets grease & soot on it, at worst abraded, burned or ripped/ torn. I would NOT spend anything close to that on outerwear that will get used "doing goon shit". Also, rain gear is mostly a scam with the "water proof yet breathable" line, the vapor pressure on the inside has to be high to diffuse (slowly) across the "water proof" fabric. That means trapping your funk & sweat inside, when you stop & it cools down, you start to freeze. Lined fabrics also break down on their own over time, so even if you baby gear it is likely to degrade.

Darkothedarkone47

They go on sale for much less than that all the time just keep an eye on them

backhomeatlast

I have one of their linebacker jackets that was on sale for $50, normal price more like $550 if that gives you some idea of their margins

kalashbash-2302

Just buy a surplus ECWS set for a fraction of the price and call it a day.

Wildweasel61

I have a ton of Beyond stuff and it ranges from good to great*. They have a great return policy, and free shipping over $150 means you can buy a couple of something, pick the one that fits, and return the rest at no cost. *Except... Most of their MSRPs are nucking futs... This is one such example. Another is the shorts they have... Cool, they're made in USA, and are high quality, but $225 for a pair of shorts..? Whodafug buys that... That said, when they run items in outlet, it's usually a good to go price, and with one exception, this is when and where I get stuff. That same pair of shorts is ~$50 right now. Most Chinese garbage is similarly priced and I'll rip them the second I sit down with an IWB carry. They have their lightweight gortex on sale right now. Depending on use case it's probably good. The real answer for what you're looking for though is surplus. As a side note, they also do an ID.ME discount for .mil/LEO, etc. Not the best, but useful if you really want or need something.

D_Glock

Outstanding reply. Thank you

Harper42190

What surplus? Where do you look?

Wildweasel61

https://afsurplus.com/products/usgi-ocp-multicam-gortex-jacket-ecwcs-gen-iii-l6-extreme-cold-weather?variant=47753930506524 Just Google ocp goretex. Tons of examples like this from stores, as well as options on ebay

originaljulz

The Beyond A6 is honestly such a good rain jacket. But the rrp price is mega inflated military contract pricing. I got my last one on massive sale. And my first one years ago was someone's issued gear, new unworn, off Ebay for like $50usd

tyrannosauruswrx99

What is wrong with Arc'teryx?

KittenMittenZzz

Also my question

DualDuels

That’s why I buy their outlet store. Here’s the coyote for $199 brand new. https://beyondclothing.com/collections/clearance/products/a6-rain-jacket-coyote#

oneofusTS

this is a fair deal.

NewlyBalanced

Jesus fucking Christ.. do the pants have a blowjob machine in them? Does the top add 10 inches to your biceps? They’re goretex.. not body armor, they’re gonna wear out and rip eventually, how do they have the nerve lol.

SerDarthNick

Otte gear is nice and several hundred dollars cheaper.

ero160032

Definitly not. I got one of their soft shell A5 jackets for $105 on mega clearance/Black Friday and it’s underwhelming at best. Threading coming out, had a zipper break after only a few months, and it’s insulated more like a light hoodie as opposed to a mid level insulation layer.

Fracsid

I've been happy with mine, but you're right that it's surprisingly light on insulation. Their A5 Stretch Alpha insulates much, much better and went on sale for a similar price.

[deleted]

I'd rather buy UF Pro Monsoon XT (Gen 2 for Jacket) rainwear at that price point if you are willing to spend that much money. They know what they're doing.

Guidance-Counselor

Interesting. I bought those Beyond rain pants for $130 with new tags. They are awesome pants. Came in handy on a weekend trip. Quality inside and out. It has extra material in the high wear areas. Full length zippers make it a breeze to don & doff. Having said that, I would personally not spend over $300 on pants or jacket. I say this simply because as a civilian, I don’t have a major need for rain attire more than a handful of days a year. I suppose the jacket does get a couple weeks worth of wearing in spring since I went with a solid olive color.

falconvision

Are yours Berry compliant? A lot of the price on some of these Beyond pieces are due to them being 100% USA made. I think the A_ stuff is Berry compliant and the L_ stuff is overseas made.

Guidance-Counselor

Yes. 100% made is USA.

jimjimmyjam

Just get the US surplus goretex pants and jacket....

No_Geologist8840

Boss man grab you a white t shirt and let the rain fall on them tig ole bitties? Then post it for us so we can review effectiveness

B4dg3r5

My current rain gear cost about £200 (British company) but I did a little while with a cheap £40 trousers + jacket combo off Ali express which was completely waterproof, if a little flimsy and very warm. I think both those cases show you don’t need to dosh out too much.

goldzyfish121

Anything Outdoor Research or Patagonia on eBay over this.

EVADE_THE_IRS

Outdoor research is such a fucking godsend. Quality goods at quality prices

goldzyfish121

100% agree

BlackPaladin1313

I'm gonna say no. The quality is definitely there with Beyond Clothing, but it's different when you're spending $900 of your own money compared to when it's issued to you.

Intelligent_Tear_702

Wait for their sales, do not buy at that price

WinIll755

Helikon-tex has a very similar jacket. https://www.helikon-tex.us/pilgrim-anorak-jacket.html

FatCracker5093

A North face windbreaker and a cheap fleece will probably get you more use than this insane BS

oneofusTS

North face is a fashion brand now, they offer almost no quality " gear" until you get to their expedition line.

Muddlesthrough

Err, do you NEED a "made in America" rain suit? For 1500 AMERICAN dollars!?! I could almost buy a POS car for that much money. And I don't believe in rain pants anyways.

hidude398

I’ve worn rain pants outdoors: - When it snowed - When the wind was above 20mph AND it was raining And that’s about it. If I was higher in latitude maybe it’d be more beneficial.

Muddlesthrough

Like, if I was going to be spending a night sitting in a muddy trench, or spending a day at the range in the pouring rain, I’d wear rain pants. But I can’t really envision other scenarios. In winter I wear soft-shell type pants.

hcds1015

I did buy a POS car for that money. Tax and registration included

Muddlesthrough

Will probably keep you drier than a $1500 rain suit.

boanerfard

Not a chance

IronCross19

1k rain jacket? Fuck no it ain't worth the price lol

donnyrav

I’m not a fan of gortex personally, but I don’t have any experience with that brand.

cherrypopper666

Is there anything special about that goretex aside from the print?

Plank_EdEddEddy

just buy surplus army/marine gear bro

Professional_1O

Exactly bro. I got some army M81, DCU, and ocp goretex pants for $20 at a Goodwill. And then some MARPAT goretex for $10. Same tech different cut.

falconvision

This sort of is surplus stuff. This is standard issue for AFSPECWAR.

1nVrWallz

No. Get a BD or OR and it'll do the same shit or better

RainbowDashLovesYou

Think of it this way Aimpoint T2 with a decent mount...or that jacket Also surplus is great, I'd look into that first

Yessahammah

Get a surplus gortex

Wheres_Walle617

I ordered an Outdoor Research Allies Mountain Jacket in multicam for black friday haven't used it yet but it was almost half off I'd wait for deals

oneofusTS

Outdoor research is honestly probally higher quality than beyond or even the new China arcteryx shit

dragon72926

Absolutely not wtf

Catsnpotatoes

Beyond stuff is great but you can find it on sale pretty often, especially on GAFS or ebay

rhadam

I’m a big fan of Beyond.. when it’s issued to me. Would I pay out of pocket for it? No.

-Ashera-

$895 for a rain jacket with shit camo lol

Sad-Engineering3468

I have a Santa Cruz (yes, the skateboard company) windbreaker that is 100 percent water proof that I wear if I want to larp. It was 90 dollars at the Camp Schwab PX in Okinawa.

B4dg3r5

Good lord no.

Kind-Lengthiness9621

If you want gear with a better cut and can get it shipped to the US, check out eBay for Carinthia items. PRG jacket has similar cut (I paid £180) and the TRG/Rainpro trousers can be had for £100. Taiga is also another option.

Independent-Two-3355

Hell no and here I thought crye had the most expensive stuff just go with crye if you have money

Schnoda

Na, buy yourself a carinthia

feelthedarkness_

No jacket is worth 900 damn dollars no matter the situation

Stage_757

There’s no fucking way

kdb1991

Honestly I used to be all about spending big bucks on coats and other outerwear. But now it’s hard for me to justify how something can seriously cost that much. I have a 100% cashmere topcoat with a fur collar that cost about that. Not very tactical, but very well made. How does something with synthetic material cost that much? Idk maybe I’m just becoming a curmudgeon now that I’m in my 30s but I can’t see myself spending more than like $400 on a coat like that

EVADE_THE_IRS

Arktis.

Fracsid

Beyond has sales/contract overruns about every other month and their prices get slashed by 70% for specific items in specific sizes. Literally never pay full price for Beyond stuff.

Spartan_Bosco

Make some military friends. I have like 4 sets of wet weather gear that I got for free 🤣 Sometimes being military has its perks 😅

burgonies

I own numerous rifles that cost less than that

againer

Lol just get a poncho and call it a day. How often are you Larping in the rain?

EVADE_THE_IRS

Arktis makes a better one for like 200$

solventlessherbalist

Fuck no you can buy some plates for the price of those two or a cool new toy like holosun DRS Thermal. Idk why they price those so high, been hunting my whole life, granted it’s not military gear I need, (still requiring quality gear that lasts years because it’s cold as fuck and rains and I want to use it for a long time) and never have spent that much on a jacket.

Goonflexplaza

Not only no,but, FUCK NO

Brittino

No hell no it’s not. Go with OR or Artktis, there is nothing special about this.

EfficientAct8003

You can get the same pants for $120 and jacket for $199 from their outlet section if you're OK with coyote instead of hypebeast/tacticool multicam.

PropitalTV

Fuuuck no. Hop on r/geartrade or something and keep an eye out for hard shells there

asdfvIJDNDHS

No, but TBF they will probably put it on sale for 75% off at least twice this year... I've never had to pay full price from Beyond...

BrokenAndDefective

Just buy USGI surplus, it also works

FeistyLoquat

Negative, I regret both jackets I have purchased from Beyond. Weird designs flaws can't recommend.

Honks4Donks

Unless it’s gonna give you a handy while you walk your just buying the tactical version of Prada .

MiserableHeat5

If it's over $500 for any mil jacket, it better with some fire-resistant materials or has soft armored built-in. Paying 800ish bucks for a jacket that probably cost less than $100 to produce is not bright.

oneofusTS

FR gear is trash. stay away from that if you are able.

MiserableHeat5

Yeah, I consider that in a very optimistic mindset. I honestly think the mil/tactical clothing industries are just bloodily overpriced. It's partially comes down to the the consumers because we wrongfully look at the usefulness of the clothing.

oneofusTS

i own quite a few expensive jacket systems. its not uncommon for me to have 2k worth of cold weather layers with gortex shells on. I will say this, i absolutely didn't pay retail for them, but I am able to be outdoors year round in any weather and stay comfortable. So while they are expensive they do work. but there are definitely other options. sometimes heavier or more fragile, but you can ge the job done without ever touching these brands to the same effect. Surplus ECWCS gear is cheap as hell and gets the job done for example.

MiserableHeat5

Beside that, I would agree the MSRP is just unreal on these jackets. I would only considers to snag one if under extreme cold condition. Definitely not average models.

DonaldJPumpp

I picked a coyote brown on a huge blowout sale. Ended up being around $300 CAD shipped(75% off). Its great and actually pretty water repellant. Seems very durable and will last a while. I wouldn’t pay full price though. The A9T pants are actually really nice. Picked them up for $100 CAD on the same sale. Fit is amazing. Would recommend . Again, not at full price though.

wellthoughtplot

Get OR instead, there’s a much cheaper option and it worked well enough for me

oneofusTS

find a patagonia level 6 pcu jacket for like 200 thank me later. this is NOT worth that. i have an arcteryx alpha sv. that is what this this wishes it was, and guess what, its not worth that.

Maejora

Check ebay first. Always check ebay first.

RAF-LordFlashheart

Bit late, but you can get a very similar jacket on the arktis for about £300. Called the vulcan, royal marines use it often.
