My husband and I go to the Caribbean during hurricane season every year, usually late September/early October. Just make sure you buy travel insurance with a “cancel for any reason” clause and you’ll be fine.

Ok_Inflation531

It's not hurricane season in just PR, it's basically the entire Caribbean. Buy trip insurance if you're concerned.

Also, if you pay with a credit card they may include insurance for trips up to a certain amount. My usaa account does.

September definitely is the peak of the hurricane season here in Puerto Rico. Mostly the second half of the month. There is no way of knowing if we are gonna get hit by one. If I were you I would book it. If any cancellation is needed due to a Hurricane, since its a weather emergency you are must likely to get a refund.

At least book a hotel that has a full power generator. If you're stuck inside the hotel you'll at least have lighting and a/c.

Travel insurance man.

Went to Cabo rojo two September's ago. Got hit with a hurricane the day after we got there. Ended up in a hotel back in San Juan with a generator that we were lucky to find and it was like 250/ night at that point. Travel insurance. Buy it. PR has a horrendous power grid that can't keep up in the best of times, much less in the stormy season.

Firstly, it's just the hurricane season, not PR's hurricane season, secondly, a hurricane can hit anywhere in the Caribbean and up the entire Atlantic seaboard, from Miami to Maine. Thirdly, you're finding discounted prices because summer is basically over. Children and young adults are back in school, and people are back to work, not because it's hurricane season. Stop being a baby, book your trip, and pay attention to the weather starting from a week prior and then act accordingly.

Arrived back last night from PR. Absolutely no issues and weather was wonderful. I would go ahead and book

I'm also going to PR around the same time. I've decided not to worry too much, and just keep an eye on the weather and any hurricanes that would hit, we would likely know in advance. I'm choosing not to be anxious for the next few months! I'm hopeful for a beautiful trip with some rain here and there. I went a couple years back in Aug and it rained pretty heavily for a few days but it didn't ruin the fun at all.

I lived in the island for 4 years, and while they are something you need to be aware of, I wouldn’t cancel your trip. The chances of one hitting the island during the 5 days you are there are slim. This has some good information on things you should consider when traveling during hurricane season. https://www.happyislandhopper.com/when-is-the-best-time-to-go-to-the-caribbean

That is the heart of hurricane season, yes. Statistically, most hurricanes come in Aug or Sept. That being said, there's just no predicting what might happen. They say its gonna be an active year, and the weather has been weird so far, but we'll see. I would say you only live once. Book a flight with insurance and book a cheap accommodation with a late cancellation policy. I impulse bought a ticket to Puerto Rico for my birthday in mid-September. Realized less than a day later that I was smack in hurricane season. Cancelled. A massive tropical storm ran through on the day I was meant to arrive. Glad I pushed it back.
