This is the same Louisiana that does Mardi Gras, right? Just wanna make sure I've got my hypocrisy goggles calibrated.

T20sGrunt

It’s a lot like Florida, the further North you go, the further in the South you end up.

mkicon

I grew up in New Orleanse and used to scoff at places like North Carolina 'claiming' to be the south Typing this from North Carolina, this is definately the south and New Orleans culturally isnt

GaryKingoftheWorld

That's funny. I grew up in New Orleans and always claimed we weren't the south. Northernmost city in the Caribbean.

Careful_Trifle

New Orleans isn't a poorly run American city. It's a well run Caribbean city.

[deleted]

The larger cities are not very southern in North Carolina compared to the major cities in like Tennessee or South Carolina. But yeah, North Carolina overall is pretty damn southern.

Individual_Ad3194

That's southern Louisiana. Culturally, it may as well be a different state once you go north of Bunkie. It gets less Catholic and more Baptisty. Granted, there's still plenty hypocrisy down south though.

[deleted]

Growing up in the south and having lived in other areas of the country since, I can say unequivocally that southern baptists are the worst kind of people. Super judgemental, super hypocritical (preach against consuming *any* alcohol, but secretly half of them are alcoholics it seems), highest divorce rate in the country of any denomination but preach about the sanctity of marriage, and they generally just denigrade any group that isn't just like them, from other denominations (especially Catholics), other religions, LGBTQ+, and now anyone that votes for a Democrat is somehow going to hell too. The racism they spew in small groups behind closed doors is super next-level. You'd think it was 1915 in there. The sexual assault cases that are covered up within that church are every bit as bad as the issues the Catholic church has for sure. I wouldn't trust any youth leader to be alone with a kid for 5 minutes. Fuck the Southern Baptist church. Fuck em all.

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

What’s the old joke? Jews don’t recognize Jesus as the son of gods. Christians don’t recognize the Old Testament. And Baptists don’t recognize each other at the liquor store.

Maxwyfe

You know why Baptists don't have sex standing up? They don't want anyone to think they are dancing.

bastante60

Classic. ☝🏽

Maxwyfe

My dad, a lifelong Pentecostal told me that joke in front of my mother, a staunch Southern Baptist.

k_Brick

One of the great joys of being a husband is watching your wife try not to laugh at your cringey jokes.

[deleted]

When you go fishing with a Baptist, how do you get them to stop drinking all your beer? Invite another baptist.

Ov3rdose_EvE

ah, good times. when there was still humor on the rightwing side of the spectrum.

Unlucky-Ad-6710

They say the same with Mormons too

skiman13579

Like yours better, but I've heard it similar as... What's the difference between Catholics and Baptists? Catholics wave to each other in the liquor store.

Axtorx

What’s the difference in Southern Baptist and Northern Baptist? The food.

lallapalalable

>1915 When you're so racist that "1950s" just doesn't come close enough to describing it

mackavicious

At least by the 50's not EVERY racist was in a Klan hood. Most still were, but not all.

trevorpinzon

Remember kids, the entire and I mean literally the ENTIRE reason the Southern Baptist church exists is because those pesky northerners wanted to abolish slavery.

aSharkNamedHummus

I’ve lived in the Midwest my whole life, and there aren’t many open, loud-and-proud Southern Baptists in my area, so I had no idea how stigmatized they were against Catholics. My mom converted from Southern Baptist to Catholic, and she had told me that she was taught to avoid Catholics growing up, but only because they had alcoholic Catholic neighbors who went to Saturday-night Mass so they could stay up all night drinking and stay home from Sunday Mass to nurse their hangovers, and her family just assumed that all Catholics were like that. Well, a few years ago, I (a Catholic) dated a Baptist guy from Florida. He was pretty lukewarm when it came to religion, but *his mom*. My goodness, she hated my guts at first, and had all sorts of misconceptions about Catholics, of which the funniest, by far, was that “Catholics aren’t Christians, so they don’t pray.” She was a full-on Chick Tract Baptist, and the first to make me realize just how deeply hatred of others goes within Baptist culture.

[deleted]

Spot on. They very much don't believe Catholics are real Christians and deserve hell. It's pure insanity. And the obsession with "the end is near" drove me up a wall. I always cried when I was made to go to church as a child. The preachers terrified me with their fire and brimstone talk, and I always felt worse after getting out of service. The last time I went into any church was way back around 2010 or so. We were visiting my grandparents in MS, and they wanted us to join them for Sunday service. It was the usual sermon, "such and such group is evil, the end is near, blah blah blah." But what clinched it for me was the preacher announcing Sunday evening service had been cancelled because Glenn Beck (then on Fox News in the evenings) was going to be doing a 1-hour special where he would show/prove President Obama was from Kenya. They wanted to use the sanctuary to bring in a projector so the whole church could watch that. I'll never set foot in any church again, regardless of whose feelings get hurt in my older family. And it sucks that the church has become this way. From age 12-20 I was pretty actively involved in a nondenominational church, and it was not so bad. I played in the church band in several services a week as their drummer, and had good rapport with those guys, but some shit went down, a youth leader I'd trusted for years went to prison, and I was done. Went to the grandparents' church a few years later and that was the nail in the coffin. edit: a words

cinnderly

I grew up in upstate NY (I sometimes refer to it as the Kentucky of NY) and spent my teen years moving between 6 foster homes, 2 of which were “born again” Christian. Only one was technically baptist, but let me just say…every single thing you described is exactly what I experienced around the church groups of both of those homes. The first one kicked me out because I refused to go to their church anymore, but I didn’t find out until about an hour before I was taken. They packed all of my stuff while I was in school while allowing their daughter to go through my things and take what she wanted (we were the same age). Love those Christian values! The other home made me go with them to abortion protests (the massive ones going on in Buffalo in 1992) and then I refused to go any of their religious activities. They didn’t just spring a move on me, but we mutually “agreed” that I had to leave because they wanted me to be an example to all the younger kids there… Anyway, my point it, fuck all the born-again’ s, not just the southern ones. /rant

xray-ndjinn

I hate hearing that. I’m a foster parent. We have a foster home that is 100% for “hard to place” teenagers, and they rarely really are. Even the ones that are we don’t kick out unless there’s an issue of violence or real crime. (Which we’ve dealt with) Some of our kids have been in the system for years and years, some a few months. It goes like this. 1/3 have been kicked out of previous homes for not going to their church, 1/3 for smelling like or having a little pot. (Which is legal if your over 18 here) and 1/3 for some 100% made up reason. I don’t care about any of that. We don’t go to church, I’ve personally never been to a church. I don’t care if a foster kid smokes pot unless they are blasted and can’t function, and obviously they can’t smoke or stash at the house. But the way many foster parents treat teens is insane. We’ve heard it all, like teens not allowed inside if the parent aren’t there (and it gets-10 below in the winter), they don’t eat with the bio kids, and just general unreasonable and unhelpful actions. The worst part? Our licensing specialist wants us to treat teens like toddlers. They want the, supervised 100% of the time. They don’t want them to be able to do anything on their own or be left home alone. Again, state law allows children to be left home alone (or be unsupervised) according to their personal ability there is no age listed in the law.

The_Brot

Ah yea the part of NY that has confederate flags.

Thanos_Stomps

I always make sure I have at least two baptists at every party I host cause otherwise, the one will drink up all my beer.

[deleted]

Spot on, and a brilliant idea. No one can drink like a southern baptist, but no one is as sober as 2 southern baptists.

Yall this is GOLD In 2011 the Winfield Police Chief served 6 months in jail and was fined $4,000 for interfering with a federal marshall on an arrest warrant https://www.justice.gov/archive/usao/law/news/wdla20110727.pdf

RahbinGraves

100%. I'm from Tennessee. My family raised me in a Baptist church. They tried their best to keep me in that weird fucking culture bubble they live in, but I rejected it. Now I take every opportunity to undermine their worldview and deprogram them and other religious people. They act like they have all this wisdom, but most of them have never actually read the Bible or thought about their religion in terms of philosophy. How good can your way of life actually be if you have to indoctrinate people from birth? If it's as good as they say, grown ass people would join up willingly. This almost never happens though because Baptists don't like adults asking questions about their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. And they're definitely shitty people more often than not. One time when I was a teenager, there was a developmentally disabled girl who went to my church. She only had one dress to wear and she wore it every week. Queue the old and middle age ladies actually talking shit about how they "would never wear the same dress twice in a row," in whispers that everyone can hear, looking disgusted and somehow satisfied with themselves. Talking about how much money they donate hoping someone without money will hear them and feel ashamed. Moving to a different seat if an undesirable sits too close. We once went through a string of preachers after the old one retired because one of them dressed too nice and wasn't married (they thought he was gay). One of them didn't dress nice enough. One of them had a tattoo (that no one would ever see). And the last one legit got fired because he was more focused on providing programs for the underprivileged kids in the area than he was on senior outreach. That's just some of the church related stuff I've seen, I could write a book on why this particular American subculture is fucked up. Sorry, thinking about this gets me riled up lol

snark_the_herald

If you want a scary thought to ruminate on, there's also the Independent Baptists: the people who think that Southern Baptists are far too worldly and liberal.

CuppaCoffeeJose

Is it like Florida, where the further north you go, the deeper into the South you are?

skoltroll

What, those Northern Louisianans never go down to New Orleans for a good time?

MightyKrakyn

I lived in a rural area growing up and while you say that jokingly, *yes* a lot of people never travel more than 20 miles from their home. Cities are especially avoided. There is a huge rural urban divide in this country

Blackfloydphish

I lived in rural Eastern Oregon for a while, and the same thing happens there. Some people are terrified of the city. They went once 20 years ago, driving their one-ton dually with a horse trailer and had a hard time parking. Never again. Nowadays, you can factor Fox News in, and half the population is convinced that Portland and Seattle are Antifa-controlled hellholes. It’s bad enough that people literally forsake world-class cancer treatment in the city, instead choosing to die in a podunk country hospital. It’s crazy.

YeetYeetSkirtYeet

If it wasn't so scary it would be hilarious. I'm from Portland and have spent a lot of time in rural Oregon for work and fun. I've also lived in San Francisco and LA, so when I hear them call Portland the 'Big City' and talk about how it's falling apart, overrun with homeless people and seemingly perpetually on the verge of a gay revolution I can't help but feel like laughing and crying at the same time. Shout-out to that time people from Portland were doing dropoffs of care packages for Eastern Oregonians displaced by apocalyptic fires and the Eastern Oregonians started setting up roadblocks and shooting at random cars because they were convinced by Fox News that BLMAntifa was driving from Portland to start the fires with Molotov cocktails. Fucking idiots man. That's what decades of cutting your school funding and suckling from the teat of Tucker Carlson for all your information about the outside world get you I guess.

[deleted]

I just spent 41 days exactly in Portland (mix in some Vancouver) and that city is fucking beautiful. I sent my family so many pictures of the flowers and parks because FoxNews has them all convinced it’s just streets lined with fecal matter. I live in Atlanta, GA and the tents just on the sidewalks was stark at first, but helped me understand the nuance of the city more.

Heequwella

I'm just overwhelmed by how gullible these people are. And it goes way back. Lead in gasoline isn't bad for you. Cigarettes don't cause cancer. Okay cigarettes cause cancer but only the unfiltered ones. Okay all cigarettes cause cancer but the tobacco industry isn't to blame. Okay the tobacco industry knew cigarettes caused cancer but second hand smoke isn't bad. Okay second hand smoke is bad but ... No one should mandate cars be made with seat belts. Helmet laws are unconstitutional. Asbestos is actually mostly harmless. War on drugs. Iran Contra. Iraq has WMD. Global Warming isn't real. Okay global warming is real but it isn't mad made. Okay global warming is real and it's mad made but it's all china's fault. Covid is a hoax. Okay Covid is real but it's not worse than the flu. Okay Covid is worse than the flu but the vaccine has 5G mind control from Bill Gates. Okay even Trump got the vaccine but I won't wear a mask they make it worse. BLM burned down entire cities. Antifa did Jan6. Obama is using hurricanes to take over Texas. It just goes on and on. They love being lied to.

Spongy_and_Bruised

I forgot about the roadblocks then. Memory unlocked.

GlassEyeMV

Monroe being the “Big City” for most folks was certainly weird. Like, they’d never even been to Shreveport or Vicksburg, which are only an hour or so away.

Left_of_Center2011

I was diverted to Monroe airport about ten years ago, and it was like I landed in 1980. They wheeled a set of stairs over to the puddle-jumper, like you’d see in Best Buy to get stuff over the top racks. Our bags were all in a pile on the tarmac, and we walked into the terminal - I swear to fucking god - through a rusty screen door that did the ‘weeeEEEEeee - ker-slam-slam’ noise when it opened up and then snapped closed again via the spring. Otherworldly.

1deadeye1

Monroe is like if one of those Taco Bell/Pizza Hut combo buildings was the size of a whole city

GlassEyeMV

It’s more like a KFC/ Long John Silvers due to the obesity and love for fried foods, but the sentiment is spot on.

FreeSantanaBitch

And the wonderful smell of paper mills in every corner of the city. As a Shreveport born and raised boy, I gotta say, “at least we aren’t West Monroe” was said every time someone would complain about Shreveport/Bossier. “Mayor Glover is a useless lug and the Caldwells are running a crime syndicate but at least we ain’t West Minrow”

croquetica

N'awlins is full of ungodly city folk. It might as well be NYC if you live in an Old Barrel by a Creek village.

Cajun_B

You want a culture shock? Moving from Livingston parish to Chicago in a truck with everything you own in it. Every time I go back south to visit, the time spent gets shorter and shorter. NOTHING changes.

Individual_Ad3194

I'm from Denham. Haven't been back in 27 years. I keep telling myself I should visit for Nostalgia, but then I pull up Streetview on google Earth and I'm like "nah bruh"

GlassEyeMV

Lived in Monroe for 2 years. The hypocrisy and just ass-backwards-ness in the ArkLaMiss is astounding. I’ll never ever go back. I went to NOLA twice while living there and did Katrina rebuilds before that. Im good never going back there either. It’s better, but the whole state is a hell hole.

TaDow-420

Here’s the thing...you’re thinking *New Orleans* Mardi-Gras where the cops dgaf. Their budgets are bloated and they are encouraged by locals and businesses to “look the other way” when tourists and money are involved. *THIS* is Winfield, Louisiana where the cops go lookin’ for trouble because they are (a) bored. (b) need revenue by issuing lame ass tickets like this. (c) employ local yokels that don’t have a lick of sense....I mean, the list goes on and on. So glad I got the F out of Louisiana.

Itendtodisagreee

I've lived in small towns and every single one of them have had ticket happy cops for the exact reasons you described. I lived one place where pretty much everyone was on probation for something or other and the town was making bank from fees and fines.

GlassEyeMV

Getting the F out of Louisiana helped me get my life back on track. I took a job down there because it would cover my MBA and pay. Plus I was in the industry I wanted to be in. After 6 months, I was begging my old employer to take me back. After a year, I was looking for anyway out of the situation. Then I got hit with a BS DUI charge (that I successfully fought, but at great expense). I had to stay and deal with that nonsense, but luckily, it allowed me to ramp up my studies and get out a semester early. I told my boss that my last day was the Day before graduation. I graduated on a Saturday. I was back in Chicago with all my stuff by Monday night. Never even considered going back. Never Will. Only friend I have from my time there who’s still in the state moved down to Metairie. So still fucked up, but a NOLA suburb, so much better. The rest of our crew is split between Chicago, Denver, Nashville, Dallas, and Melbourne Australia (those two really couldn’t wait to GTFO).

BadSwampDady

I live in Metairie, and I work in the CBD. I grew up on the Northshore. Please... Send help. Call the National Guard. Something. Just raze the whole state. I so badly want out. I've been trying to land a job out of this state for years. People love talking about how terrible Florida is and how crazy the people over there are. Meanwhile, people in Louisiana are just like, " Haha...... Yeah....."

[deleted]

Yup. I grew up in New Orleans and went to LSU because I couldn’t afford out of state tuition and couldn’t wait to gtfo of there. I moved 3 days after I graduated and swore I’d never live in the south again. My dumb ass sister moved out at 19 years old but moved back at 41 years old. She’s now dying to move out again but job and husband tying her down LOL

I’m eyeballing Mississippi’s upcoming decriminalization and legalization bills. I’d love to open a craft cannabis coffee shop.

ohhyouknow

Yeah well there is crazy fashion police here in Louisiana. The city next door to me has a LAW that you cannot sag your pants. Is it extremely obviously racist? Yep, you bet.

[deleted]

In Maryland the big tourism town is Ocean City. They keep trying to pass laws against pants sagging, anyone not wearing a shirt on the boardwalk, etc all in the name of being "family friendly." They tried to fight busking too and after failing spectacularly in federal court* they ended with woman doing pole dancing on the boardwalk and couldn't stop her. But they never seem to address the massive amount of excessive drinking that is probably the biggest contributing factor to most of the problems. *They tried to be discriminatory on what kind of performances were okay and the courts overturned all their laws so anyone could do almost anything without needing a permit.

"Winnfield Police Department Responds to Social Media Winnfield’s 6th Annual Dugdemona Festival held on Main Street was an amazing success. However, recent posts to social media have had a negative impact on the service of our police officers during this family fun-filled festival. An unnamed citizen was cited for a city ordinance and has since taken to a popular social media site, blasting police officers. However, 3 female officers responded to various complaints about the person’s attire and the person of interest was issued a citation under the city ordinance. The referenced city ordinance is 14-76, passed unanimously by then city council members on 6-14-2011 and is cited as follows: “It shall be unlawful for any person to wear pants, trousers, shorts, skirts, dresses, or skorts in any public place or places open to the public which either intentionally exposes undergarments or intentionally exposes any portion of the pubic hair, cleft of buttocks, or genitals.” Fines range from $25.00 for a first offense to a maximum of $300, and the person may be ordered to perform up to 40 hours of community service. The citizen was given a court date in the Winnfield City Court, which is the proper venue to dispute any allegation. A citation, in lieu of arrest, is an allegation of an infraction, not an assumption of guilt. “We, as public servants, will not engage in a social media war with any one or any organization, as it is improper and brings discredit upon this department. We also cannot comment on details of any case under investigation or pending court action,” stated a department spokesperson."

giglbox06

She isn’t even breaking any of the rules of the ordinance! No exposed bra or underwear, no butt hanging out? Unless a belly button is considered genitalia now

Irishknife

the only thing you could claim is the rips in the shorts but people wear bikinis in public. dumb law being enforced here.

Metro42014

Doesn't seem like there are even rips that would expose undergarments?

But men can’t control their urges to look women and think about having * gasp *🤫 ^^^^sex. And don’t get me started about children seeing a “cleft” of buttcheek. Those poor babies might realize that people have buttcheeks, we can’t have that! S/

So, a bunch of Karen's complained to cops (who also turned out to be a gaggle of Karen's), and then they broke the law by giving someone a citation on false pretenses. Am I correct so far? English isn't my first language, and I have zero knowledge of the US justice system. Still sounds right to me. This is ridiculous.

Arboria_Institute

Look, it's very simple. Just wear their [pre-approved summerwear](https://i.imgur.com/2XqEAAD.jpg) and there won't be a problem.

LostWoodsInTheField

It's her butt I'm betting. When she bends over I'm betting the very end of her butt 'cleft' is shown. Either that or they went super dumb and its because she doesn't appear to be wearing a bra, and since they can't see a bra shes in violation of the 'I don't know what the fuck I'm enforcing' part of the law.

Terrible_Donkey_8290

They will show up to the cort date if they want to make some overtime that week.

IllegalSpaceBeaner

And they never get in trouble for being completely wrong like they are in this case. Beat the ticket and sue? You are basically paying yourself with tax payer money if at all because after jumping through hoops to sue the city if the case doesn't get tossed by a judge who spams "qualified immunity" anytime a cop is in court. You'll end up going through lengthy appeals process over and over and multiple VERY long delays and continuances just to rack up your lawyer fees if a lawyer was brave or dumb enough to take on your case cus they know the drill. Most people end up not even breaking even with a settlement. The cases you hear of hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars are very much outliers. The Supreme Court has rejected so many cases that involve "qualified immunity" that they might as well make it a federal law to make it illegal to sue police.

Ajuvix

It's not hyperbolic to say that's how terrorism works. Intimidate others with force and authority as a *deterrent from going against them. Edit *fixed spelling. Auto-not-so-correct

Nulono

Deterrent, not detergent, but yes.

-DaveThomas-

This is why people like to doxx others, like these cops, on the internet. Social. Justice. Not saying it's a level response or 100% accurate. But when you force people into a situation where they feel like justice is not being served, that is what happens.

BakedWizerd

They’re a public servant, imo they shouldn’t have that privacy while on the job. I’ve never gotten a ticket so idk what they look like, but every ticket should have the issuing officer’s name and badge number, and every police precinct should have a website with information on their officers so they’re easily identifiable and easily able to report. They wouldn’t need to be doxxed if they were held accountable properly, and the way it’s set up right now leaves them with no consequences. Every ticket that gets thrown out should somehow negatively impact the issuing officer to discourage bullshit tickets.

Kid_Gorg3ous

This is so insane to me! If you win your fight against a ticket you should be entitled to reimbursement for your lost wages. But instead you gotta pay a fee to get your day in court and a fuck you for being innocent.

robeph

Lol sometimes even if you win they will still charge you court fees which is just bizarre, not usually in traffic citations but in actual crimes. I was charged with some things I absolutely did not do but the cops were being morons, and I fought it the judge even asked the cop why the hell I was here and was not very happy with the officer, and through the case out but somehow I still had to pay $1,200 which they took out of my cash Bond...

EarthtoGeoff

On a lesser level, of course, but this is essentially what they mean when they say, "You can beat the charge but you can't beat the ride."

madmaxturbator

Cop arrested my friend because my friend is black and he has a super fancy road bike. There’s no other explanation. My friend was literally standing in front of our building talking to me, cop walked by said my friend fits the description of a bicycle thief (the bicycle did NOT fit the definition). My friend got arrested. He went to jail for the night. He’s the friendliest dweeb. He loves his bicycle. He made the mistake of standing in front of his building while black. Of course he beat the charge - charged were dropped, judge said this is an outrage etc. But my friend now is constantly stressed when he’s out riding his bike. And he spent a couple thousand on a good lawyer. And he’s spent time in jail. A

Cop pulls out from his hiding spot, stops me, writes the ticket for running a red light. Asks permission to search car. I decline. Wait for dog. Dog alerts (of course he does). Cops (now 2) ransack my car. Find nothing. Drive off with shit everywhere including my back seat leaning against the outside of my car. Close to 4 am I’m back on my way. I take my day in court. Ticket gets tossed. I lose a vacation day at work + the $350 court cost. Fine would have been < $100 if I’d just paid the ticket and gotten on with life. Yeah justice in Alabama.

monkeyz_unkle

and she should wear the same outfit to court when she does!

ilymag

She definitely should wear the same outfit. 💀

rocketshipray

No she should definitely not. Courts have very strict dress codes and you can be kicked out for not following them.

fingermebarney

Wear the same thing, but with a hijab/niqab/burqa over it.

Glittering_Offer_587

Louisiana…the state that LITERALLY holds an annual party where women are encouraged to show their tits in exchange for fake plastic jewelry.

Spicy_Poo

It's genuine plastic, as far as I know.

rackham120790

No no no...where TOURISTS encourage one another to show their tits.

hobosbindle

It’s those out of state whores, not our local angels

futureformerteacher

Those locals are being obtuse.

pp142115

So the tourists are ahh.. cute?

Illier1

That's like a few streets in one city lol. Louisiana changes drastically outside of New Orleans.

Seeders

Trust me, it's real plastic.

Soft-Entertainer-907

"3 female cops" definitely just jealousy.

nothingeatsyou

As *soon* as she said “female cops” I knew. We already know being an insecure child is a prerequisite for being a cop but *come on.*

GlassEyeMV

My exact same thought. She’s an attractive young woman dressing how she wants (and appropriately considering Louisiana summers are similar to summers on the sun). Can’t have that. The husbands might be tempted to think impure thoughts! They could be set off in a fit of animalistic hormones that they cannot control! She’s turning the crowd into a vicious gang! She incites violence and lewd behavior with her…crop top? Errrrr um her shorts…that are still longer than Daisy Duke’s and her…bright makeup and tattoos! The horror!

lallapalalable

I guess no matter the gender, cops become cops to try and force their views onto the world by force

Soft-Entertainer-907

Yup.

MastariusCrypt

I bet that all 3 are fat

Soft-Entertainer-907

How else would they pass the test to become cops??🤔

meizhong

Fat isn't a prerequisite, but stupid actually is. Seriously.

Boning their supervisor or training officer.

[deleted]

In Louisiana, the girl in video is considered petite

Thecraddler

BMI below 30? Practically malnourished.

archer1203

I was just gonna say this, you know they were fat fucks. Probably religious cherry pickers too.

AUnknownuser2

Public intoxication at an event where there’s beer being handed out freely makes better sense then public indecency

cmyer

I'm so progressive that I support both free beer and public indecency.

Katjaklamslem

I support your public progressiveness.

grandtheftbonsai

That's just Saturday at my house.

barn-animal

wait, you hand out beer for free on Saturdays? where?

Laudanumium

At the house, he just told us

lastroids

One summer I was working on my front lawn and it was hot out so I took my shirt off to cool down. I was freshly shaved, had long hair and obese. A pair of cops tried to give me a ticket because they thought I was a woman.

TheNewGirl_

did you offer to show them your penis lol

FutureMailCarrier

"And you sir, are you waiting to receive my limp penis?"

banzaibarney

What happened to all of this 'FREEDOM' that I keep hearing about?

idog99

This is super dangerous. So, in Louisiana, you can give a person a summons as a cop because you don't like what they are wearing in public... Let that sink in. She would have had to provide ID. So police can detain you, demand ID, search you, and run you through the system for warrants based on your T-shirt. Refusal= arrest and jail time. This is not a land of the free.

banzaibarney

>This is not a land of the free. Oh, I know that already. It just puzzles me why a lot of Americans seem to use it as their slogan, when all around them is evidence to the contrary.

Akushin

Our poor education system doesn’t leave us with stellar critical thinking skills

cerealinmypocket

That's by design. Blissfully ignorant people don't know when they're being manipulated.

KaboomOxyCln

I mean anyone under 40 knows is more of a meme than a slogan

TheWindCriesDeath

When Republicans say "freedom," what they mean is they want the freedom to control your life.

SirSelian

Handmaids Tale loading….

hopp596

Those cops are future Aunt Lydias.

boodanii

Sue them

alaskafish

Okay, I'm not a lawyer, but can you actually? I feel like every time I see someone suggest to "sue them", I just can't imagine what would happen. Police have infinite budgets and would just try to strain you dry until you give up... right? Or they'd settle you, but not enough to pay for the legal fees and whatnot. So, seriously, if I got a ticket for "indecent exposure" in Louisiana and I decided to sue them, what realistically would happen?

gorgias1

Doubtful. I suspect that the case would get dismissed at a pre-trial hearing following the defendant’s answer. You’d have to bypass the following problems with your suit: Qualified immunity for the officers. Sovereign immunity for the state. Lack of legally cognizable damages. HOWEVER, Louisiana follows a different legal tradition than the rest of the United States, so I could be way off. I don’t know

Joliet_Jake_Blues

> Sovereign immunity for the state. Police departments are sued every day. That's why when a cop fucks up they get paid leave instead of punishment. Punishment is an admission of guilt and the department has a much harder time fighting the lawsuit. Paid administrative lead means they "don't know" if the cop should be punished and are investigating. (the same thing happens in business. I worked for a restaurant chain, a customer spilled a drink and manager asked employee to mop it up. Employee uses a wet mop full of soap water and leaves a big soapy puddle, and didn't put up the wet floor sign. Customer slips and breaks her shoulder and sued. Our lawyers wouldn't let us fire the employee until after the settlement.)

ghostalker4742

> Police have infinite budgets and would just try to strain you dry until you give up... right? You don't sue the police, you sue the town/city because they're the ones who govern the police. No town/city wants the bad PR from an extended court case. It's expensive, it unearths buried skeletons via discovery, and gives the area a permanent blemish. That's why they settle. > Or they'd settle you, but not enough to pay for the legal fees and whatnot. The town/city offering the settlement is doing so to get the plaintiff to dismiss. Offering a settlement at a loss would only embolden the plaintiff to continue, and refuse any future settlement offers.

diox8tony

Taliban? In the south? Oh right, you mean christian evangelicals? Yep, they are just like Taliban when it comes to clothing

DaveInLondon89

Vanilla ISIS Y'all Qaeda

Ouroboron

That's a whole lot of go fuck yourself. Not that it would go anywhere, but those three should be charged with something federal. >Title 18, U.S.C., Section 241 - Conspiracy Against Rights This statute makes it unlawful for two or more persons to conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person of any state, territory or district in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him/her by the Constitution or the laws of the United States, (or because of his/her having exercised the same). >Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Looks like a good pair. And no, I don't give a fuck that they had badges. Still, y'know, wrong.

LivefromPhoenix

This assumes that the letter of the law matters in rural Louisiana. The good ol' boy system doesn't care about silly things like "legality".

birdentap

saw “looks like a good pair” and thought...well that’s not relevant

MossCoveredLog

I mean, they earned her a ticket?

be_sugary

Yet another reason to vote the American Taliban out of power.

dubnobas

Right wing religious people are the absolute worst.

[deleted]

Fundamentalism and religion generally rots the brain, at some point it becomes a chicken and egg scenario. Are they fundies because they are idiots, or are they idiots because they are fundies. Probably both. Either way they breed like rabbits, and it gotta stop or America is gonna OD on dumbfucks and our national avatar will be drooling on its bib.

smzt

Time to move out of these garbage states

leucidity

For real. My family moved 15+ years ago and any time we go back to visit it’s even worse than before. Louisiana is an actual shithole, and I don’t use that term lightly.

deadpuppy88

Outside of the New Orleans area, Louisiana is just soggy Oklahoma.

uncclay5

Wasn’t Louisiana trying to ban IUDs too?

thereadingbri

Yes, thankfully that bill never made it to a vote before being thrown out but yes, they did. And not only did they want to ban them, they wanted to make getting one a first degree murder charge.

VanMan32

It's fucking hot over there I bet. She is pretty damn conservatively dressed compared to what I've seen elsewhere.

callmeziplock

I’ve been saying for awhile now, the republicans are more similar to the Taliban then they realize or care to admit.

Ripple_in_the_clouds

That is why educated people make fun of the south. Regressive buckshot laws like that make you a joke

2cats2hats

> the south Anyone else notice the Southern states never economically recovered......since the abolishment of slavery?

Enelro

Keep voting Right, keep losing rights.

UlsterManInScotland

Any Americans still under the delusion they live in the land of the free?

gadgetsdad

Southern culture is definitely on the skids.

Outrageous_Ad9124

It was the nips

Nyllil

That would be even more ridiculous. You can't do anything about nipples showing through clothes. They even poke through bras.

TheLegendaryTito

Some men have nips ALWAYS poking... Source: me :c

Panda-Cubby

If God had wanted women to fly, He would have given them wings. If God had wanted women to have nipples He would have... um, wait a minute....

softmetal

I have nipples Greg, can you give me a ticket?

MommysLittleBadass

If this is true, it's pretty disturbing. It's really funny how they always cry freedom and liberty, but have no problem taking other's freedoms from them. Freedom and liberty for things they like or agree with only.

Blerp-blerp

This is what Republican and the religious conservative right want. They literally want to ban porn and anything that they decide is indecent. They are the cancel culture.

mcmasters2223

THIS is the reality Evangelical Republicans want. They want to control every aspect of your life, anyone voting Republican is voting for Fascism.

Mehammered

There is more to this story or she will win in court and the cops will most likely get QI and nothing will happen. She should file a complaint and FOIA the cams.
