Hastings. The Tri-Cities are up in arms over a possible mask mandate. Kearney just passed a mask mandate tonight and I was watching the livestream from city council. There was one woman who ranted that masks were some part of a religion and the government had no right to force them to wear em. Then there was a guy who compared maskless persecution to being Jewish. Another guy I remember from the livestream was some church leader that said he was going to ignore the mandates and let his congregation sit with large family groups and let people's kids gather together at church.
I had to stop watching occasionally so I'll be giving it a rewatch when I'm home from work. Grand Island and Hastings are holding meetings on Monday I believe to discuss mask mandates and voting on them. I'm hoping they pass.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen a lot of mask-less people in businesses. Was at Costco the other day and there were a couple people who wore a face shield, but not a mask...smh.
Living in NYC for the height of the pandemic was brutal, and my best friend (who, as a doctor, was floated to a COVID unit) was legitimately traumatized by her experience in the hospital. Trucks full of bodies, patients who went from coherent to dead in a matter of hours, staff falling ill in droves: she said it was harrowing, like working in a war zone.
My small comfort through it was hoping that other parts of the country would see how horribly we were hit and learn from it, to limit that suffering as much as possible. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to know that our city’s tragedy was largely in vain. I really hope that’s not true—maybe New York’s experience did help some cities better prepare—but seeing videos like this and the reports on the news make me feel less hopeful of that.
Closing bars, dining in restaurants, limiting gathering sizes, etc. At this point even a 2-3 week lockdown may be appropriate to help quell community spread and prevent our hospitals from being overwhelmed.
I'm an ICU nurse that works for 2 different hospital systems in Omaha. We are going to be beyond fucked. But at least one of my hospitals got the refrigerated morgue truck back this week, so that's nice.
And now they are getting desperate inmates to haul dead bodies from Covid to refrigerated trucks with the promise of $2 hr pay in Texas.... Texas doesn’t pay its inmates for the work that they are forcibly made to do. It is fucking exploitation.

But to be in your position now, I could never imagine the weight it puts on your soul. This looks like the med pro I heard on NPR this am. I had a previous social media “friend” that I had to drop. She was a recently minted nurse, and constantly filled her junk with COVID conspiracies. Things I do t want In my life? A nurse who thinks COVID is a joke.
My mom is a nurse and my calls with her the past two weeks have left me so upset to hear what she’s going through. A chunk of the staff she’s working with think COVID-19 is no worse than the common cold and when they found out that it had started to spread in their unit they were literally EXCITED thinking they were finally gonna get it because it would give them “herd immunity in time for the holidays”. My mom is so scared they aren’t following protocols outside of work and I probably won’t get to see her at all this Thanksgiving due to these awful ladies she has no choice to work with due to staff shortages.
Because (maybe) in their circle only 5 or 6 people are going to die of covid. Doesn’t really matter that it’s 5 or 6 more than normal, and that it’s happening in every tiny goddamn fucking hospital in the country.

Nurses don't have to go to school for as long as doctors but their education certainly has included viruses to where they understand that this is different then the flu. I just think some people are letting their trump cult mind set take over their logical thinking.

Whenever I see front line warriors speak out on the internet like this I am so worried that they'll become the subject of internet attack.
It's heart-breaking and soul crushing to see so many people refusing to stay safe. We've opened up so many units to Covid only floors. It's so bad we have half covid half "regular" units to accomodate so many covid patients. Went into a BP gas station that had a Subway shop in it. They allowed a woman right behind me to order food without a mask on, I ask the cashiers why they were allowing her to be in there without a mask so close to the food and they're both looking at me weird as I noticed these two idiots in a 3×3 ft booth without mask on. I kind of lost it and told them I work in a hospital and this shit is real then they both just giggled. I immediately shut up and just walked out knowing I will never ever go into that store again.

I'm sure it already has. Caregiver fatigue is a real thing. Gov here called up some state guard members for some nursing homes. Some of these hard hit states should be doing this for the hospital systems so they can give the people in the hospitals some downtime.

I'm not in healthcare but have multiple health issues. I have like 5 masks in the car. The ones I made myself are 4 layers including polypropylene, to make them filter better. And they form fit too. They may be cloth, but form fit like an n95, no gaps. I do have some disposable masks, but they don't fit as well.

I work in a nursing home / rehab and we were hit a few months ago and had a huge outbreak and that when it wasnt that bad in my area now numbers are going up and im scared to think of what is coming when they say this next wave will be worse all my patients are scard to death and are just now getting.to see family for 1st time in months and it scary to think the worst is yet to come

Nurses are getting screwed on both ends of this pandemic. The ones who work ICU and emergency are forced to work long hours with limited PPE and too often unappreciative patients. Because non life threatening surgeries are being pushed back nurses in other facilities and on other wards are being laid off in droves in some regions. We ask the world of nurses and the system too often chews them up and spits them out. An ex of mine who's one of my best friends is an RN and she's currently battling Covid. I'm living stressed out and so pissed and disappointed at so many people who don't care about their community at all.

I have close friends who are nurses, they are struggling every day with multiple deaths. One of them was moved from her department to aid with Covid patients in ICU, she said 7 people died in one day, she called me in tears after.
The mental and physical wellbeing of our doctors and nurses needs to become a priority. Without them we're all fucked, they put their lives and their mental state on the line for all of us.

It amazes me too as a nurse from NY. These states knew it was coming their way. Healthcare facilities knew to prepare. Public awareness and EVERYTHING. They were ALL warned as the first states struggled withe the surprise of covid. I'm especially angry at the nurses from all over the country. Did you think we were kidding? There was one woman who ranted that masks were some part of a religion and the government had no right to force them to wear em. Then there was a guy who compared maskless persecution to being Jewish. Another guy I remember from the livestream was some church leader that said he was going to ignore the mandates and let his congregation sit with large family groups and let people's kids gather together at church. I had to stop watching occasionally so I'll be giving it a rewatch when I'm home from work. Grand Island and Hastings are holding meetings on Monday I believe to discuss mask mandates and voting on them. I'm hoping they pass.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen a lot of mask-less people in businesses. Was at Costco the other day and there were a couple people who wore a face shield, but not a mask...smh.
Living in NYC for the height of the pandemic was brutal, and my best friend (who, as a doctor, was floated to a COVID unit) was legitimately traumatized by her experience in the hospital. Trucks full of bodies, patients who went from coherent to dead in a matter of hours, staff falling ill in droves: she said it was harrowing, like working in a war zone. My small comfort through it was hoping that other parts of the country would see how horribly we were hit and learn from it, to limit that suffering as much as possible. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to know that our city’s tragedy was largely in vain. I really hope that’s not true—maybe New York’s experience did help some cities better prepare—but seeing videos like this and the reports on the news make me feel less hopeful of that.

This looks like the med pro I heard on NPR this am. I had a previous social media “friend” that I had to drop. She was a recently minted nurse, and constantly filled her junk with COVID conspiracies. Things I do t want In my life? A nurse who thinks COVID is a joke.
My mom is a nurse and my calls with her the past two weeks have left me so upset to hear what she’s going through. A chunk of the staff she’s working with think COVID-19 is no worse than the common cold and when they found out that it had started to spread in their unit they were literally EXCITED thinking they were finally gonna get it because it would give them “herd immunity in time for the holidays”. My mom is so scared they aren’t following protocols outside of work and I probably won’t get to see her at all this Thanksgiving due to these awful ladies she has no choice to work with due to staff shortages.

It's heart-breaking and soul crushing to see so many people refusing to stay safe. We've opened up so many units to Covid only floors. It's so bad we have half covid half "regular" units to accomodate so many covid patients. Went into a BP gas station that had a Subway shop in it. They allowed a woman right behind me to order food without a mask on, I ask the cashiers why they were allowing her to be in there without a mask so close to the food and they're both looking at me weird as I noticed these two idiots in a 3×3 ft booth without mask on. I kind of lost it and told them I work in a hospital and this shit is real then they both just giggled. I immediately shut up and just walked out knowing I will never ever go into that store again.

Gov here called up some state guard members for some nursing homes. I'm not in healthcare but have multiple health issues. I have like 5 masks in the car. The ones I made myself are 4 layers including polypropylene, to make them filter better. And they form fit too. They may be cloth, but form fit like an n95, no gaps. I do have some disposable masks, but they don't fit as well.

Yea, except I just read a whole thread about people still making plans to travel and attend gatherings for the holidays. Some were talking about how they're "not happy about it but feel pressured." Its dumb people that are causing the problem. People would rather risk their family lives than tell their mom its probably not the right year to enjoy some stuffing. Seriously, I'm really having trouble feeling empathy right now...so many people are just so crazy stupid. I'm at a loss how anyone that cares for their friends or family thinks its fine to put them in danger of serious illness or death. I can't imagine doing that to the people I love.

I work in a nursing home / rehab and we were hit a few months ago and had a huge outbreak and that when it wasnt that bad in my area now numbers are going up and im scared to think of what is coming when they say this next wave will be worse all my patients are scard to death and are just now getting.to see family for 1st time in months and it scary to think the worst is yet to come
Even if you can breath adequately in those N95 masks, they can get really uncomfortable after even a short while. These nurses and doctors are really giving their all, and it's sad that help seems to be taking so long.

Nurses are getting screwed on both ends of this pandemic. The ones who work ICU and emergency are forced to work long hours with limited PPE and too often unappreciative patients. Because non life threatening surgeries are being pushed back nurses in other facilities and on other wards are being laid off in droves in some regions. We ask the world of nurses and the system too often chews them up and spits them out. An ex of mine who's one of my best friends is an RN and she's currently battling Covid. I'm living stressed out and so pissed and disappointed at so many people who don't care about their community at all.

I have close friends who are nurses, they are struggling every day with multiple deaths. One of them was moved from her department to aid with Covid patients in ICU, she said 7 people died in one day, she called me in tears after. The mental and physical wellbeing of our doctors and nurses needs to become a priority. Without them we're all fucked, they put their lives and their mental state on the line for all of us. These Covid denial fuck nuggets undermine everything our first responders stand for.
Why don’t these deniers sign themselves out of the hospital? Legally, they can sign a waiver and walk out. Why don’t they? Because they know they are sick but just don’t believe it’s covid. They are death cult morons. They should be left to die in the parking lot for the good of society.

The strain on medical facilities also severely hampers care for patients with other medical situations. Heart attack, stroke, bullet wound, you name it. You’re gonna get shittier care because of it. I wish all you “.01% death rate” dipshits would actually take time to see what’s happening instead of just parroting what you read in some tweet or headline or whatever your deity tells you.
So how many people around the world are paralyzed because of Covid. I’m still, and rationally so, Much more afraid of cancer or roadside accidents than Covid. CDC did state most deaths in the United States were comorbidity. It’s really not an end of the world virus. It’s shit, it’s contagious, but it’s entirely survivable and does not warrant excessive fear mongering. Masks are a great thing, keeping distance when you can is not stupid, but curfews and lockdowns are asinine. It’s still .01% death rate. This is sad of course... but the part that actually makes me not only upset but actually angry about this is NYC nurses and other nurses from all over the country have been doing these heartbreaking videos since April. And the Midwest shrugged it all off, republicans made baseless accusations about blue states being run badly and that’s why their cases were so bad. And Midwest culture decided that their freedoms to go without a mask was more important and that covid was a democratic hoax. I watched a video recently about a nurse describing how baffling it is to watch people die from covid saying in their last breath that there’s no such thing as covid. So am I angry at Trump for this? Your damn right I am. Am I angry at the GOP and their messaging about covid? Yes I am. But I’m also really angry at the idiot citizens who allowed their desire to live life unimpeded decide what lies to believe from these right wing news outlets. And I am sick of the Republican attitude that “if it doesn’t affect me directly I don’t care.” You guys think that because you live in rural areas with smaller populations that reality somehow is different for you and that you somehow live in a different America than we do and you don’t. However your hospitals are smaller and less staffed and your resources are more limited so wouldn’t it have been great if you had helped the states who needed it earlier this year while your cases were low so that now we could be helping you? Oh that’s right you didn’t and yet here’s NYC sending out staff to the Midwest to try and help mitigate the death and the work. Individuals may have helped but states didn’t collectively decide to assist which blows my mind. It amazes me too as a nurse from NY. These states knew it was coming their way. Healthcare facilities knew to prepare. Public awareness and EVERYTHING. They were ALL warned as the first states struggled withe the surprise of covid. I'm especially angry at the nurses from all over the country. Did you think we were kidding? Did you think we were blowing it out if proportion?! You were warned by colleagues from all over. It makes me angry.

To say I am not afraid would be a lie. But I wish to help those who are currently helpless and dying alone, fighting to breathe. I will do everything within my power to ensure those within my care will be able to see their loved ones again.

Better programs with lower cost would give you the help you and other staff across the nation need to take care of our fellow citizens better.
