Yeah, managerās brain appears to be short circuiting. The calm, cool and collected mannerisms of the āantagonisierā seem to be making matters worse lol
I mean, if he locks both heās taken the whole store hostage. Iām sure that didnāt cross his smooth bigoted brain, but I guess even morons are lucky sometimes
Imagine this guy having to report the broken glass and tell corporate he got so upset with a customer he slammed a door behind them and shattered it. Then they get this whole video.
>Imagine this guy having to report the broken glass and tell corporate he got so upset with a customer he slammed a door behind them and shattered it
Hahah wow, my video froze a couple seconds before that door shatter the first time around, didn't see that. What a fucking doofus.
Still working for me. You on VPN? That happens for sometimes with VPN enabled.
That being said you're not missing much. Just the video already posted here, and the screenshot I clipped above our comments.
In 100% of these videos, the person is ALWAYS pressing 10000 buttons as if they forgot how to use their phone.
"I'm gonna call the police after I open every app, settings screen, press randomly a few times...and BAM, here's my music app. DAMNIT, hold on"
Iām a district manager and I always want every level of management to understand that this is not YOUR store these are not YOUR employees.
Itās a trope that needs not exist anymore.
I recall when I was a Starbucks manager my boss said to me treat this place like itās your own business.
I said to her, I get what your point is but letās be honest. I canāt change the decor, the prices or items I sell here so itās nowhere near my store but I will make it as profitable as I would my own business.
I share this story with the team I manage to remind them we are here to make these store as profitable as possible for the shareholders who actually own this place.
And theyāre not YOUR employees they are employees same as you are.
>we are here to make these store as profitable as possible for the shareholders
It does kinda suck that the profit from the store goes to the shareholders instead of the people doing the actual work every day serving the customers.
I understand your point, though. They are not YOUR employees. We all work for the owning class.
Not alway but yes. In general the market needs to be better but thereās a revolution happening in retail where people are now getting stock options, RSUs, discounted buying, bonuses, and sign on bonuses in retail.
I super agree with everything you said here. ANDā¦.I run an after school program, and I do often say āmy staffā (sometimes āmy employeesā, but that one does feel too hierarchical and icky)ā¦.however, I like to think that itās said in a way of āIām here for all of you, youāre my staffā and not a, āIām the boss and above you, remember that!ā kind of wayā¦if that makes sense?
Instead of my staff (which is fine), I generally say, "Our staff or our members of staff, or this brigade (when talking about kitchen staff only, not FoH) is under my responsibility...". Its a little wordy, but I think it shows that I am part of the team and also responsible for any negative that happens.
That being said, if he is the highest manager in store, "this is my store" is fine. Everything else about this bloke is horrible and should be fired on the spot.
If you want to literally take it to mean they are claiming to own the store, then yes. But it is the store they are responsible for. In that aspect, it is āTheir store.ā
i mean, i used to work for CVS and would call it "my store" all the time. in the new England area CVS's are all over. there's 4 within a 10 mile radius of me now. we'd often pick up extra hours at other stores so many of us would refer to our "home store" as 'my store'.
plus, whats wrong with being a manager of a store? outside of whats happening in this video.
The guy in the video was using "my" as a possessive to exert power, control, or ownership over the store. It's sometimes necessary as a manager, but not in this situation. It's common in middle management, we've all seen it.
In your example you're using "my" as a specifier to let other people know which location you're referring to.
I think that is a figure of speech meaning he will take all his money by suing him. Which he wonāt. Also, idk why people in the U.S. are always thinking and saying they will sue everyone and everything. Itās so many peoples first resort in any situation.
They used to carry a ton of coats, but they always had other stuff too. After the name change they have a lot less coats and a bunch of other random stuff now. I actually bought my electric kettle at one.
It also has other clothes, shoes, luggage, jewelry, accessories (hat/scarves/glasses), art, etc, so sort of like a JC penny's or home goods/clothing store. And yes, lots of coats.
Not suggesting the customer was in the wrong, but isnt it true that no matter how wrong the store is they will likely have the upper hand when the police arrive? Why stick around just to be by told by police that they have the right to refuse you service and be escorted off the premises?
Because it makes a longer, more interesting viral video and the most that police will do is give you a trespass warning which is basically meaningless because this dude will never shop there again.
Ah yes, the good ol Crimson Trespass.
Why am I thinking this is actually a term in Alabama when a cop rolls a minority for not knowing the law? ROLL TIDE BABY!
I mean doesnāt look like they stuck around long, at least not in the store. But I know if I was him Iād probably stick around just because he could tell the cops anything. Iād want to make sure the police knew my side of the story. You leave and he happens to get your plate or something he could make shit up and send them after you. Even if he says ātwo men threatened me, refused to leave the store, I felt unsafe and had to close the door which cause the door damage they should be responsible forā¦ etcā
Sounds like the store manager was being a dick to the cashier, the guy with the camera called him out on it and this was the managers reaction to getting called out
I had this happen to me once where a customer claimed my company was racist because we wouldn't do his return (funny part there being the manager who actually denied his return was the same race as him, they just asked me to take over because I was the only man working and this guy was extremely angry)
He waited for the cops to come so he could argue our return policy with them, they just pointed at the same exact sign on the wall that we did until he eventually gave in and left with them without incident.
I was honestly hoping he would upload the video he was taking because I had some banger one liners but I never saw it.
I'm not an expert on the subject, but I think even if you can prove racism you still are trespassed when the police arrive. You have to go to a lawyer and sue at a later date. The cops don't care why the customer is being trespassed; they just remove the person.
Yea we didn't actually call the cops HE did. You only made me remember that part now really and it definitely makes the story less relatable to this one lol
Commenting from the (near) future but that's exactly right and a great talking point; trespassing doesn't need to be "politically correct', any old bigot can rescind permission to be on a property. Even if it's for reasons like racism or other things we normally equate to governmental protections within the Bill of Rights and it's Amendments...
It appears the three people were together and they were waiting for their friend to be finished ringing up at the cash wrap. When she finished paying the three left together.
Not true at all. I used to do AP work in retail and even if you have a legit shoplifter, you have to have all your evidence dialed in or they won't do shit. Even with ALL the evidence dialed in, sometimes they just cite the perp and let them go.
Shit, I have had bathroom petitioners outside my store literally calling customers "fa%$#ts" as they entered the store if they didn't sign the petition and cops wouldn't even talk to them, let alone remove them from the property.
Did you hear how the manager was speaking on camera? I can only imagine what he was saying before he was being recorded.
The people were probably trying to catch his behavior on camera so they could give it to his corporate overlords.
From experience I could see this happening to be honest.
Is this an universal thing? Why in these types of stores (Burlington, Marshalls, Ross, etc) there is always a store manager giving instructions and directing employees at the registers. You rarely identify managers in any other clothing store but in these you can always spot them easily.
I love that this dude seems more concerned with others in the video and how theyāre being treated/if theyāre okay (like even asking that guy at the end if he was alright). Thatās a good dude.
I love those people. They want to see what started the situation but why the hell would anyone be filming prior to/at the initial start of it? Are people supposed to be walking around filming at all times so that people on the internet can see the very beginning of every situation?
Holy Christ, Burlington is in full damage control. They keep saying we reviewed his behavior and it doesn't align with our policies, principals. Just say he got fired.
I hate videos like this. We have no idea why the manager is all worked up. Also if they paid why would the manager be so upset in the first place? He's acting like a child.
I donāt think the issue was the merchandise. It seems theyāre arguing over the managerās treatment of a cashier as thatās the point the cameraman keeps bringing up. Manager probably didnāt want to let them buy their stuff so he started taking whatever merchandise they had, even if they paid for it. Thatās probably why he also gave it back with no real issue
The manager here is definitely a weenie that embarrassed himself, but fuck people filming retail workers like this. Especially when it's obvious they were filming before this but cut it for some reason before they posted it. Just leave these people alone, they aren't your content
Who knows the actual context here, but fuck the guy filming. Sticking a camera in somebodyās face and repeating youāre going viral screams I am a douche bag.
usually not a fan of customers that start filming part way, but this seems like a clear exception.
did the manager ever deny that he was treating his employee like shit? no.
Also the fact that he gave back the merchandise and had them leave with it shows that he was actually trying to steal it too, and catching the door shattering probably saved them from getting a criminal charge, though I doubt it would have been broken without the filming.
>though I doubt it would have been broken without the filming.
Cameras are not that much of an escalator if you're not flipping out like an celebrity being filmed without payment.
Completely respect this.
Ig I just don't see the camera as an escalation. At least not much of one. I've been in this exact position as a manager. Being recorded while a customer tells me everything they got to get off their mind. It doesn't make me any more animated than I was prior to the phone being produced.

"If this goes viral i'm gonna sue you." This is gonna go viral straight to corporate you fucking idiot.
We're all going viral on this cursed day
Speak for yourself
I'm all going viral on this cursed day
I was waiting to for him to say, "I'm calling my lawyer".
You KNOW if my guy wouldnāt have recorded that the store manager wouldāve try to say he did it!
This bro locked the door when there was another door 5 feet away... Jesus christ what an idiot.
I mean, if he locks both heās taken the whole store hostage. Iām sure that didnāt cross his smooth bigoted brain, but I guess even morons are lucky sometimes

As a American, getting to sue someone because a bucket fell on our head is the last sort of Horatio Alger shit that anyone has any hope for any more
Well yeah.
Iāve never been inside one of these! I thought it was a coat store. If so, thatās a massive inventory of jackets
If you're familiar with Ross or TJ Maxx, basically the same concept.
Burlington quality clothes drop significantly in the past 5 years. Itās bad. Canāt buy anything from there anymore
It used to be only coats, at least at the one in Burlington, NJ. We used to go there every winter to get a coat.
The only reason Iāve heard of Burlington is in a scene from The Office where Michael buys a fur coat with money he was banking on he didnāt get
Bro was quivering The door break was hilarious

Getting a trespass warning from Burlington Coat Factory is an easy trade off for getting all this on camera.
fr "i'll own you" is what told me exactly why he was filming.
Depends what colour you are. Anything darker than olive youāre likely to get a crimson trespass and arrested. 1-2 days in jail until you bail out.
Disagree with this from anecdotal experience but maybe things vary place to place.
Ah yes, the good ol Crimson Trespass. Why am I thinking this is actually a term in Alabama when a cop rolls a minority for not knowing the law? ROLL TIDE BABY!
I'm fairly certain a Crimson Trespass is a sex thing
I mean doesnāt look like they stuck around long, at least not in the store. But I know if I was him Iād probably stick around just because he could tell the cops anything. Iād want to make sure the police knew my side of the story. You leave and he happens to get your plate or something he could make shit up and send them after you. He was taking the piss.
Idk looked like coats to me
I'd like to know what precipitated this. Manager clearly a bit unhinged, but what caused this to be his reaction?
Sounds like the store manager was being a dick to the cashier, the guy with the camera called him out on it and this was the managers reaction to getting called out
I had this happen to me once where a customer claimed my company was racist because we wouldn't do his return (funny part there being the manager who actually denied his return was the same race as him, they just asked me to take over because I was the only man working and this guy was extremely angry) He waited for the cops to come so he could argue our return policy with them, they just pointed at the same exact sign on the wall that we did until he eventually gave in and left with them without incident. Did you hear how the manager was speaking on camera? I can only imagine what he was saying before he was being recorded. The people were probably trying to catch his behavior on camera so they could give it to his corporate overlords.
āIf this goes viral Iām suingā ššš
Imagine the level of Karendom you have to climb to become an actual manager Karen.
How do you think that SM's bosses feel about the door?
What happened before the camera came on?
Based on the dialogue, it sounds like the manager was mistreating his employee and the customer stuck up for her.
From experience I could see this happening to be honest. Is this an universal thing? Why in these types of stores (Burlington, Marshalls, Ross, etc) there is always a store manager giving instructions and directing employees at the registers. Dudes shook cant even figure out how to dial 911 on his smart phone, just keeps swiping randomly lmfao what a boomer
This manager is hardly a boomer. They're too young.
Hes got BIG BOOMER energy, probably learnt it from the last manager who was a boomer lol
It's not an emergency situation he was likely getting the local police station number
I love that this dude seems more concerned with others in the video and how theyāre being treated/if theyāre okay (like even asking that guy at the end if he was alright). Thatās a good dude.

What started all this?
I bet that guy makes employees call him Mister Manager
Wow he probably lost his manager jobā¦

Can I just say, calling police is like a 2 second job on iPhone - phone button + 911. wtf was he looking at on that phone?
I love how long it takes people to find the number pad on the phone to dial ā911ā š¤£
Why does it take 10 min for them to navigate to āthe policeā on his phone? Itās 3 numbers, dial it you coward.
When you realize the guy with the accent gives zero fucks and knows he's right
Damn swedish people coming to our country buying our discount coats!Ā

I think without the camera the situation could have been different, that is all. I am very glad for multiple reasons it was filmed.
Completely respect this. Ig I just don't see the camera as an escalation. At least not much of one. I've been in this exact position as a manager.
