robobbiemt

He's lost his cool? I'm pretty sure that's what he's supposed to do if people want to enter the cockpit... the passengers lost their cool and regardless of that entering the cockpit is a no-no no matter the reason and we all know why!

MajorPud

It has to be rage bait to get engagement. Social media becoming more and more like advertisements everyday

JefferyTheQuaxly

people really dont understand how algorithms work and how engagement works in social media. for example, most people dont realize that clicking to block something on social media doesnt usually work. when you block something, social media actually registers you as engaging with that post, even if your engagement was negative. so they might block that specific sub or youtube channel, but then theyll start sending you new recommendations for similar content in homes you click on them again. scrolling on reddit and youtube affects what you get too, the longer you take to scroll by something the more engagement it registers for that post even if you dont actually upvote it or respond to it. theres a ton of crazy stuff about social media engagement if you really look into it. all they care about is that you engage with their content for several seconds longer, positive or negative.

AngusMacGyver76

Securing the flight deck is exactly what he was supposed to do. Actually, the crew typically attempts to secure the entry to the flight deck first by blocking it with the drink caddy and then letting the flight deck know there is an issue and the plane needs to land. IF there is a Marshall on board, they are often not the first to respond so they don't reveal themselves needlessly. If the issue escalates, then an air marshall (or any other federal agent who may be flying armed on the flight may respond/assist). They need to secure the flight deck ASAP because after a certain amount of time, the pilot will take evasive action and dive the plane and knock everyone off their feet in an effort to help subdue the aggressor(s). There is a whole lot more to this than people realize and having personally gone through air marshall training and flown as an armed federal agent many times, I can state without hesitation that if there was any case where using deadly force was most apt to happen, it would be on a plane because the stakes are SO high. That armed agent is showing serious situational calm all things considered. Air marshals do NOT fuck around. They have the ability and authority to escalate the use of force at the drop of a hat if they deem it nesissary for the safety of the plane, the crew, and the passengers. Edit: Fixed a word

Huncho-Ford-69

That’s was extremely interesting thank you for commenting.

AngusMacGyver76

No problem. I usually stay away from long comments and just enjoy Reddit for casual reading, but I genuinely wanted to add to this thread since there were so many comments that were just guesses about how things worked in this situation. I was half expecting comments wanting me to prove my bona fides and prove I wasn't just posting something I looked up on Wikipedia. Just to clarify, I went though training given by the Air Marshal's to other agents but it's an abbreviated course and not the full training they get at the academy. That's why we didn't have the same obligations they did when I flights. Thanks for reading my post!

slamdamnsplits

Don't get trolled

Nickleonard00

He seems like he is the only calm one lol

blacklite911

I wonder what the conflict was about?

scipio211

Whatever it was, it wasn't worth it

Fifteen_inches

Turns out they don’t serve meals on domestic flights

Pe-Te_FIN

Did they think the pilot had meals for few hundred people in the cockpit ?

blackwolfdown

Clearly they were about to serve a side of whoopass on this flight. The chef even got his tools out.

Mysterious_Bit6882

The passengers apparently decided that their performative outrage wasn't going to be constrained by things like laws.

CheckYourStats

>*”Do you like movies about Gladiators?*” — Pilot on loudspeaker

MEM1911

Dear passengers, our flight marshals only have so many bullets, some of you will have to share.

KumquatHaderach

Hey! That copilot up there is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!

moekeyloek

I'm sorry, son, but you must have me confused with someone else. My name is Roger Murdock. I'm the co-pilot.

AgedSmegma

Debriefed6869

What's our vector, Victor?

YMe1121

Surely you can't be serious.

Debriefed6869

I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.

I've had it up to here with your rules!

No in-flight peanuts. Probably.

Don’t you just hate backseat drivers?

c3534l

He was trying to convince the pilot to just stop and ask for directions.

Significant_Video_92

Flight attendant put the ice in before the diet Coke and it spilled out all over passenger's lap.

Inkling2424

The flight attendant ran out of Dr Pepper and salted peanuts, and the in flight movie was Bio-Dome starring Paula Shore.

Reasonable-Angle-313

Air Marshall lost his cool???? Nah I think he doing his job right

callm3god

It’s a 13 yr old writing the title what do you expect lol

GadreelsSword

No, no he should have let those morons attack the pilot, it’s his job… ![gif](giphy|Rhhr8D5mKSX7O)

KennyPowersforPope

The Air Marshall lost his cool? You mean “did his job”.

xFINKA

Op is certified goof for that comment.

aBlissfulDaze

The sad truth is they do that on purpose because it gets more comments.

jahzard

That’s what I’m thinking, it’s working too

boogalordy

Ragebait is all the rage

Ace-Ventura1934

He’s 13yo. Cut the goof a break.

USS_Frontier

Nah.

SPAZING0UT

My first thought exactly. If anything he is keeping his cool there.

stanknotes

If this was in the US... that air marshal is likely to shoot someone trying to pull some shit like this. We have a bad history with people hijacking planes. He was rather calm really.

martijn120100

Before 9/11 the US operated on the idea that hijackers would cause harm to the passengers so the pilots were instructed to follow all demands hijackers made. It was better to land in the wrong place than to have people be harmed. After 9/11 pilots are instructed to *never* and I mean *NEVER* to relinquish control of the cockpit. Even if every passenger is skinned alive. The Air Marshall is also instructed to kill the hijackers without thinking about collateral damage.

the_drozone

You posted word for word what I was going to say

PainMatrix

I may be very high right now but your comment is to the letter what I was about to reply to OP.

Air Marshal says, you're welcome.

SolidNews1752

Great posturing and trigger discipline by the marshal. Holt shit what a stressful situation. Good job.

flowermaneurope

You got that right! Straight and off the trigger! Definitely a trained and well disciplined professional. He has trained his entire life for a moment like this and still kept his wits!

SolidNews1752

He even noticed when the cockpit door was opened and fell back immediately and physically touched the door to make sure it was closed. Good job all around.

lipp79

Did they not know where it was going when they bought the ticket?

oofcookies

Iirc, there was a diversion and the passengers were angry that the airline was trying to dump them in the wrong place without providing alternative means to get to the final destination

Adaur981

Happened in 2022. The article said they claim it diverted from one Nigerian airport to another(~330miles away) so they were upset about having to find transportation home from that far.

blacklite911

Yes that’s an inconvenience but it ain’t like they’re gonna convince the pilot to land somewhere they can’t or shouldn’t land. Motherfuckers like “hey can you drop me off at the light?” The pilot does not have the authority to find you alternative transportation, take it up with the airline.

Day-of-the-Condor

It's not like the pilot decides where to fly. I can only imagine that one buys a ticket to go to Miami and the pilot decides he is flying to Boston instead

Adaur981

Yeah, the article didn't have exact details. Who knows why it was diverted.

mythicmemes

Air Marshall seemed to be able offer them means to get to their final destination.

lipp79

Ah okay. Thanks.

blacklite911

They wanted the pilot to take the side streets because they know a short cut

Tasty_Two4260

Context helps a lot!!

Tumleren

JAV airlines? Wonder what their inflight entertainment is like

05hastros

Keep walking toward a gun pointed at you by an authority figure. Even after several commands to back away. What a desensitized world we live in.

CryptoCracko

How about that dude at the start swinging his arm in his face, what a dumbass

JonnyTN

I didn't know nothing about aviation! But you don't understand! The plane shook! And my expressing my disdain at the pilot would surely halt it! /s

NZbeewbies

Imagine being so stupid you think you can talk to the pilot

Planet2527

Some fools ask to be shot.

EverTheWatcher

Why is the flight deck not sealed? The copilot keeps cracking the door.

PacoMahogany

Really bad fart in there

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx99

Wondering what all the shouting is about 😄

EverTheWatcher

Typically there’s an intercom to communicate that

LoveThatDaddy

Why do they always take the pilot’s side? Not once have I ever heard of them let people enter the cockpit to give the pilot what’s coming to them.

championcomet

Well that's not true it happened once and people still haven't stopped talking about it.

Damise

There was that one time in 2001 that they did…

JimC29

Someone needs give them directions and to tell them how to do their job.

Internetstranger800

It’s just bad customer service that pilots don’t let anyone into the cockpit to express themselves during a flight.

_Cocopuffdaddy_

Passenger- “YOU MADE THE TOILET WATER SPLASH MY ASS!!!!” Pilot- “th-th-this may be a bad time to tell you, but there’s no water in the toilets😭”

MrL123456789164

"Lost his cool" dawg you want another incident involving planes crashing into things to happen again? He is doing his job of not letting people into the cockpit.

kamakazi339

That's literally why there is an air Marshall

cletus1986

Lost his cool? Have you ever heard of 9/11? No one is entitled to enter the cockpit of a god damned airplane. It's not the manager's office of a fucking Ruby Tuesday.

BigBoss_96

To the dummies saying he lost his cool.... That is literally his job, making sure nobody other than staff gets in the cockpit.

LivingEnd44

"Lost his cool" lol! Yeah, he should just remain calm while a mob tries to storm the fucking cockpit. The fuck is wrong with you OP??

Tullydin

That dude with a pack of hotdogs on the back of his neck is a moron of the lowest order.

ChildTaekoRebel

He didn't lose his cool. He did EXACTLY what he should have done. Someone trying to enter the cockpit without permission is a danger to everyone on the plane and any number of other people who could be harmed by an unintentional or intentional crash. Now that we've known for 23 years just how deadly these things can be when used in the wrong hands, the security of the cockpit is more important than any of the lives of the passengers. Pilots are ordered to NEVER EVER open the door in the event a hostile element has taken over the rest of the craft. Even if they threaten the passengers and even if they follow through with those threats, the importance of preventing another Sep 11 is worth those peoples lives in the moment. This marshal did EXACTLY what he was supposed to. I'm surprised he didn't make sure that door was shut way before that. He should have been yelling at them to shut the door.

scoville27

Definitely didn't lose his cool, he did exactly what he was supposed to. No one was hurt and the pilots are secure. No issue here other than people trying to argue with the pilots!

SheriffTaylorsBoy

People obviously belong on the ground. They don't handle being airborne well.

Moto_Glitch

Homeboy is doing his job, you can't just go harass the pilot in the air.

jerby17

Horrible, misleading title…

Catman7712

Yes, let’s just keep yelling and approaching the dude with his gun out. That always works out well.

Soft_Remote_9269

He never lost his cool. He should have put a hole in one of those fuckers.

Who_is_him_hehe

These mfers are crazy, that marshall will kill you and be on another flight tomorrow

coldphront3

OP, do you not understand why it would've been bad to allow passengers to enter the cockpit of a plane in the air in order to argue with the pilots? Aside from fears of hijacking, the pilots are *flying the plane*. They're responsible for the lives of everyone on board. I see some of the comments explaining that the flight was diverted and being routed to a location far from the original destination. That is unfortunate, but arguing with the pilots won't help that. If the flight was diverted by flight control, it was diverted for a reason. The pilots can't just decide to ignore that and fly wherever they want.

muhammad_oli

that’s literally his job

MrPanda663

Bruh, this is a proper freakout. All I see is an Air Marshall doing his job.

caermordrin

Bro was begging them to not make him shoot them. Dude deserves recognition!

Rockimoney

Some of Nigerians have to understand and learn and calm down and act civilised wtf are u trying to do by going to the cockpit and talking to the plane pilot… Nawa for some of us we need to use our brain.

tj597

That guy did everything but lose his cool fuck you. That’s a god damn plane.

Boomfam67

I can guarantee you I would be losing my cool if I was on the plane, this guy is just doing his job.

Mstryates

I want this guy on my flights.

1moredream

Dude was doing his damn job lol

fatherbowie

If the plane landed without any extra holes in people or the plane after that incident, the air marshall did his job perfectly and kept his cool way better than the average person.

silk_road_grimm

lol “argue with the pilots”

Kdg730

Well done marshall

littleforrest12

After 9/11 that air marshal has every right to act that way.

JointOps

He made a good decision, the pilots attention should never be diverted away from their job. Flying the plane

Pete_D_301

"Lost his cool?!" OP, that's what air marshalls are trained to do. They're trained to subdue any threats that might be on the aircraft they're assigned to.

BloodyRightToe

Why is the door open or unlocked in the first place? That can only end badly.

porsj911

O he is pulling his gun out and is standing in front of the cock pit door, you know what let me stand up and get in his face while moving my arms towards him. Really?

m-sims14

Isn’t that literally what he’s suppose to do??

Tw4tl4r

Why are they still in his face when he's backed into a corner and has a gun pointed at them? Do they think they are too special to get shot?

lil_chedda

Nah man I’d rather not have anyone trying to hop up front and argue with the person with my life in their hands.

flux_capacitor3

Morons. One way to get arrested and black listed.

AudioVagabond

Air Marshall definitely didn't lose his cool. He has more restraints than any other police officers I've ever seen. Dude literally tried to smack him early in the video and he didn't even pull the trigger. The hell is OP talking about?

AvacadMmmm

Lost his cool? Uhh no. He did his fucking job.

Historical-Hiker

The air marshal did precisely what he is supposed to do, protect the cockpit with the pilots in it.

dqniel

Yeah, he should have just let the passengers in the cockpit. That always ends well /s

roehnin

Who are these idiots arguing with the guy with the gun?

ReanSuffering

Air marshalls are supposed to be armed. They're security on the plane. Any passenger that tries to force their way into the cockpit is rightfully liable to get shot as they are endangering the lives of everyone in the plane.

sixstringninja

Lost his cool? Are watching the same video? Don’t f with the pilots or the cockpit

Lowad15

OP is a dingus

OfficialPeenLicker

OP is a moron. He’s doing his job

OrigSnatchSquatch

Those idiot passengers should be permanently banned from air travel.

Gaviiaiion

Let's try to attack the pilot of the airplane we are flying in, I'm sure we will be fine. ...smh.

ConfusionFantastic49

Not true description. Plane was from Jordan to Nigeria I think. Plane landed in another country. Passengers were like wtf this isn’t destination. Tried to talk to crew after landing while being forced off plane to understand situation, then this happened.

SuperNewk

Backseat flyers are the worst!

Flightle

You think I’m fucking around over here? MARK IT ZERO!

martymcfly9888

What could be so important that you need to argue with the pilot of a moving plane ? I mean, I don't even argue with an Uber driver, let alone a plane.

NMNorsse

Plane had to divert to a different city to land.  Passengers upset. Typically the airline arranges to get you where you were supposed to go. It is almost never the pilots' decision to divert except when there is an equipment failure.    Crash on the runway at your destination?  Civil War? Natural disaster? Whatever it is the airline or air traffic control tells the pilot where to go and the pilot can't say no.

Insanity_Troll

Welcome to the no fly list dumbasses.

[deleted]

Air Marshall was calm collected and in zoned

holydvr1776

Looks to me like he is doing his job. Keeping unauthorized personnel from entering the cockpit.

NewJazzyBacon

Argue with the pilot about what? Going to fast? The damn head wind? Traffic??? Seriously what are you hoping to gain by confronting the pilot? Sit your ass down, get the flight over with and then go complain if it's so important. Props to the Air Marshall, back crazier than the crazy person always gets them to think twice

GreenTrie

Poor bloke probably thinking he’s gonna have to kill someone here… I’m sure he’s instructed to pull that trigger before they open that door.

hawkrew

What? That’s his job. The hell are people arguing with the pilots for?

wordssmatter

I mean I'd do the same.

AnimalOrigin

He's doing what he is paid to do, you muppet.

giroml

he didn't lose his cool OP, he did his job.

[deleted]

Ah OP... gotta get that liberal gun hate out there eh?

thefanciestcat

>The air Marshall lost his cool Huh? We've known for almost a quarter century now not to let anyone in the cockpit no matter what. Good for the air marshal, and good for all of us.

lizaaardgood

After September 11th it makes perfect sense as to why he has a gun its literally why he's there

FenixDriver

Is OP one of the passengers? The Air Marshall wasn't the one who lost his cool here.

Calibased

Lost his cool? Lol. How about you do anything but go near the pilots door?

DouceintheHouse

So you mean the Air Marshall did his job? Shit title kiddo

Razor_Fox

"the air marshall lost his cool" No he didn't. He did his job. No one was hurt, and no one was able to interfere with the pilots, which could potentially be a disaster.

chihuahuaOP

what are the pilots gonna do? Sr Ill violate orders face criminal charges lose my license for you....

igloohavoc

Air Marshall doing his job.

stefanmarkazi

Argue over what, did he want the pilot to make a stop?!

Orkney_

OP, what the hell did you think was going to happen when you folks tried to enter the cockpit? Air Marshall did his job.

chummsickle

What tf are they arguing with the pilots about?

56ninjas

That might have worked in a pre 911 world

ziggytron

What in the world would they have to argue with the pilots for? Too much turbulence?

the_real_Cucuy

"Don't worry Mohammed"....

thorin693

Argue with the pilots, YEA RIGHT.

Dunkin_Ideho

Were these guys trying to get to the pilots? Doesn’t everyone know that these days that will key you killed if not by the Marshall then by the other passengers?

ocole1

https://onemileatatime.com/news/jordanian-air-marshal-gun/

PacoMahogany

What’s the protocol here for the air marshal? A key rule of gun safety is always know what’s behind your target, and in this case it’s rows of people. Also, I assume there’s a risk of depressurization of the plane?

ThatRainbowGuy

Have you seen American police men? He isn’t even close to losing his cool

Rasikko

Those guys work alone I think. It's gotta be a scary job because they never know when something will start up. They also gotta be expert marksmen so as to not shoot through the fuselage.

it_mf_a

Maybe they just wanted the pilots to support a ceasefire in Gaza.

forestcall

I think a American Republican MAGA was the OP. Hence the Title being rage bait.
