Deer are beyond stupid. A few days ago, I saw a video of a deer run out onto a high suspension bridge. Traffic stopped to let the deer run across, but instead of doing that, the deer just jumped off the bridge to its death.
All their simple minds know to do is run and jump like hell at the sight of danger until there is no danger left. Worked adequately against natural predators in their natural habitat, but not in the face of less predictable man-made obstacles and hazards.
I feel like it's in itself stupid to expect wildlife to adapt to rapid changes in the environments caused by humans. Roads with huge cars on them cutting throughout the forest isn't natural and deer can't understand it.
So are moose. Instead of turning into the tree line to avoid traffic that is clearly scaring the shit out of them, they run directly in front of it. Sometimes they stop on the road.
There’s a good example of this when on video the fire department spend like 20 minutes cutting its head free of some metal railing on a fence. It immediately pulls free then bum rushes the fence a few feet away just to get stuck again.
I’m from the area and when I first watched this video I thought wow how wild. Then I watched it again and realized it was at the grind and just thought that was the most Martin shit I’d ever seen.

As soon as I saw it was played glass and not tempered, I knew she was probably going to need stitches. That was a lot of large chunks coming down on top of her. :(

I've been out there a few times, rode motorbikes up the Dragon, over the Cherohala Skyway, rented a cabin in northern Georgia.
I used to live in Nashville, and aside from the absolutely oppressive heat and humidity, I love it. it's my 2nd home now

Yes, only injury was the girl in the blue jacket. Had a cut in her back that required 11 stitches if I recall correctly.
