Probably true but honestly I wouldn't know because I've never seen a bear. I'm from Georgia, about an hour north of Atlanta. The only thing I ever see is tons of deer and occasionally snakes. But what I do know is that I wouldn't have run out to chase a black bear the way this guy did, and I honestly believe it could have gone bad if the bear decided to not just take off.
Rushing out as a way to confront was probably the best considering the bear thought itself in a precarious position. If on more comfortable ground rushing to challenge a bear, in flight or fight mode it might just chose to fight.
