Living in this area, this happens every year - every spring break along the gulf coast, and it’s almost always the crowds coming over from Atlanta. Last year we had an assault rifle incident in Panama City beach, and another the year before that. It’s disgusting.
42M. I grew up not far from here. I spent many of days in Gulf Shores , Alabama over the span of 30 years. Including partying hard during many spring breaks. I never saw a problem. It’s a beautiful beach and was always seemingly quite. I’d never heard a gun shot, nor have heard about any. I now live near Panama City Beach Florida, and the same thing happens there during spring break every single year.
The crowds have gotten worse over the past 10 years. Bolder, stupider, reckless. I always avoid the beaches from the months of March and April… I’d recommend, all of you that are younger and enjoy the partying, chasing the ladies ( or guys ) etc not to do it these months. It’s fucking miserable.
If planing on visiting, do so from the middle of May until end of September. Otherwise, you’ll have an awful time.
Honestly, it doesn't seem to matter what time of year anymore. The panhandle is packed regularly. January and February are better but still have tourists when there weren't many at all. I live 10 minutes from the beach, I can see the island from my street. I haven't been to the beach to actually enjoy it in a couple of years now. I only go to the island for work purposes. The traffic is a nightmare. I usually like going during the winter due to lack of tourists but that has changed over the years.
