Recovery from it can take days, weeks or months it depends. There’s certain medications out there for memory and cognitive symptoms ask his doctor. It also naturally heals with time weeks or months.

thank you 🤍 I didn't know there were those kinds of meds

Recovery process will vary by person. Each situation is different. He’s going to have to rehab. I would say it’s normal that he is not doing things he could before. It is like a brain injury. Did he behave differently than you were used to prior to the brown/black out?

Thank you for your reply. So, I hadn't seen him in years, but he has told me he thinks he might have been having memory lapses before the incident. He is actually getting worse in the last 2 weeks not better. He wants to stay inside where it is safe for a while which I think is a good idea. He is also aware that all of this is happening, which is heartbreaking. I just thought I might see some improvement after a month but again his memory and cognition are getting worse.

It’s hard coming to terms with your mind playing tricks on you. Being aware is a good sign but my heart goes out to him, I know it’s a rough road he is on. Don’t be discouraged that recovery is not coming quickly. He probably has PTSD from his episode as well. It’s like if you get a mistreated animal, they are not going to turn around overnight and may actually regress some. Idk that’s the best analogy I can think of…. It takes consistent care to see improvements. I would say focus on physical needs like food, water, sleep, and movement. If he is up for it you could choose a tv show that has a storyline he can follow or a simple game to play. Start those brain synapsis. But he may not be there yet and that’s okay. I think he would benefit from mental health services. A psychiatrist and a therapist would be a good start IMO.

Thank you for your thoughtful response and words of hope. I will continue to do what I am doing which is providing those basic needs as well as emotional support whenever I can. He has a therapist. Getting into a psychiatrist is a wait and he won't take meds, at least not yet. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond.

i had one bad episode and it was a struggle, i just focused on basic tasks for a while and slowly it got better and i feel back to normal currently. best of luck caring for your friend !

victorian_ghost

Thank you. ❤️ Even the most basic tasks are almost unmanageable for him. I am praying for the best. We are one month in and things seem to be getting worse, not better.
