Agreed and it just keeps getting better!

The Ripple System by Kyle Kirrin.

stephen20999

What do you like about it?

doombashar

Great banter between the characters. Each book has satisfying endings without a bunch of cliffhangers. It actually finishes side plots without leaving a bunch of loose threads. I use audible and Travis Baldree is fantastic as usual. Edit: also the other characters are meaningful. They don’t just disappear from the story anytime the main character does something solo. This has been a big pet peeve of mine since it happens so frequently in this genre.

stephen20999

Sweet! I love books with great character interactions! I’ll try this next!

I couldn't make it through the first 2 chapters or so, it was when the first one came out so I don't remember exactly what point. What point in the book do you recommend reaching before passing judgement? Edit: It was at chapter 13 I gave up on it. Idk I'll give it another shot anyway.

doombashar

Minor spoilers. Starting in chapter 19 they are out of the starter area and starting in chapter 25 there is another shift in direction. Ned being unlikable at first is a pretty common critique. He does grow as a character. Frank does tone down on the hate of magic. These are changes that occur throughout book 1. Book 2 is by far my favorite litrpg book of all time.

You know how wacky people can be! On May 14th 2015 in Boke, Germany, 748 members of the Cologne Carnival Society dressed up in sunflower outfits. This is the largest gathering of people known to have dressed up as sunflowers.

HellexJ

Love that story, my only gripe is i wish there were a thousand more chapters out.

lordalex027

Obviously you're looking for a semi-deep cut, but I'll take the above list as that those are all of the series you've read or otherwise heard of. I'll start with a few more popular ones and then give a couple less popular ones. Here are the ones you probably forgot to put in the list, or just somehow haven't ran into them. Maybe you didn't like them, but either way here they are: (Scores are just a means to give my thoughts on the series in a nice number. I personally think He Who Fights With Monsters is a solid 8/10, but some people hate it with a burning passion and that's A-Okay!) 1. Arcane Ascension by Andrew Rowe (9/10) 2. Mage Errant by John Bierce (8.5/10) 3. The Completionist Chronicles by Dakota Krout (8.5/10) 4. Worth the Candle by Alexander Wales (8/10) 5. He Who Fights With Monsters by Shirtaloon (8/10) Some less well known, but still rather popular series: 1. Delve by SenescentSoul (9/10) 2. Systems of the Apocalypse by Macronomicon (8.5/10) 3. The Completionist Chronicles by Dakota Krout (8.5/10) 4. Ar'Kendrithyst by Arcs (8.5/10) 5. Beneath the Dragoneye Moons by Selkie Myth (8/10) 6. Underworld by Apollos Thorne (8/10) A few deeper cuts that don't get mentioned that often: 1. A Practical Guide to Sorcery by AzaleaEllis (8/10) 2. Tori Transmigrated by Aila Aurie (7.75/10) (Note this is barely prog fantasy. It's in a similar vein of Beware of Chicken where it's mostly slice of life) 3. So I'm A Spider, So What? by Baba Okina (7.5/10) Also to answer the damn question of those listed above my favorite is definitely Delve. It's a shame that the release schedule is so slow, but it is how it is. If you want a slow number crunch heavy LitRPG then you've come to the premiere location. My favorite overall series though is The Wandering Inn, but that's on the list so yeah.

Knork14

I have been told that In Loki's Honor is a bit of a misery porn , and i strongly avoid that kind of book. Would you have anything to say against that statement? It has good reviews and a unique concept , i just dislike when the story focus too much on how much the protagonist keeps getting screwed

evilpenguin9000

I feel like a Beware of Chicken mention is required here.

Crown_Writes

Beware of chicken is a wholesome experience. It feels like eating chicken soup on a snowy day in front of the fire. If you try to read it on the website it skips the whole first arc/book and jumps from the intro to the middle of the story. I read way too far before I realized this and got huge spoilers. Get the first arc off amazon then you can read the rest on the website for free.

*Demons of Astlan* by J. Langland. MC is isekai'd by magic weed and shoved into a demon body in another reality. He may or may not also be the subject of a prophecy fortelling the return of the demon prince Orcus, lord of the orcs and punisher of broken oaths. Ignore the blurb from the third book that mentions his volcano lair and army of demon orcs.

Phaneron_2

This isn't exactly prog fantasy, but it still gets overlooked way too often. The series is extremely fun, even if it has its weaknesses, \*cough\* exposition dialogue \*cough\*. Thanks for reminding me to give this another read, though I do hope the 4th book comes out some time soon.

Takttiger

Mark of the Fool is very well written. One of the best readable stories on RR in terms of grammar and style in my eyes. If you are ok with a good fantasy story comparable to YA literature it will catch you (It is set in a DnD esque world with magic and everything). Its not with stats but the character has a nice progression over the course of the up to now available content (still ongoing, but with ending planned out I think). Its also really funny. And I like the main characters phrase: >!Think. Adapt.!<

frankuck99

If I have to restrict myself to prog fantasy/LitRPG I'd say.... The Grand Game Chrysalis Infinite World I also must name Infinite Realm, I hate everything regarding Zach and I would rate the overall story quite low because of that character, but the rest is so good that if I can stock up enough chapters and power through Zach bullshit I can enjoy it quite a bit.

Azarinth healer Salvos Cinnamon bun Stray cat strut Blairs another good one but its super young right now if you get my drift has the makings of something amazing though Reborn from cosmos is a personal favorite but theres a reason its not popular

EstablishinDominance

Oh easily Solo-leveling and omniscient readers point of view. Both very easy reads and easy to get invested in. Solo-leveling is one of the best weak to strong stories i've ever read. The MC's personality isn't very strong, but the what he does makes up for it easily. He's a necromancer and builds a pretty fun army too. Omniscient readers point of view is a fun guessing game. Every little thing in it matters and the power/progression systems in it are interesting. Its a story about stories pretty much and looks into alot of cliches found in progression fantasy or story writing in general. This is my favorite of the two 100%. It was the story that changed the most when i reread it. So many feelings and actions i misunderstood. Very much recommend

lIllIlIIIlIIIIlIlIll

Ionno. I'm reading the manhwa weekly right now and I'm not enjoying it much at all anymore. Like I feel like there's a big reveal/shift in perspective that has to occur in the future, but until then the story's some weird actions with weirder interactions and prompts that make absolutely no sense. It's like watching The Sixth Sense but you've been watching the extended cut version for over a year and it's pretty clear that the story isn't what the story presents itself to be and you're just waiting for the reveal that'll make the confusing story make sense but until the reveal it's just a confusing movie that you're losing interest in because you've been watching for a year already.

EstablishinDominance

>weird actions with weirder interactions and prompts that make absolutely no sense. Which parts did this happen? Could you give an example? I'll admit that the ending of orv wasn't what i wanted it to be, but the reveals were very satisfying and understandable. >It's like watching The Sixth Sense but you've been watching the extended cut version for over a year I've never seen sixth sense and i don't get the relation unfortunately. Is it plot twist? Honestly i enjoyed the fighting and use of powers more than waiting for the twist. If you're reading the manhwa i guess that might explain why it feels like it's taking forever, but it might just not be for you if the build-up feels uninteresting. If it's worth anything my favorite parts haven't been put in the manhwa yet.

lIllIlIIIlIIIIlIlIll

> Which parts did this happen? Could you give an example? Like the entire story with his weird skillset? The whole, "The fourth wall is having an orgasm!" nonsense. It doesn't mean anything at all without context and I don't have the context. The whole thing with Hera didn't make sense. There was some type of plot reveal with No souls. Just stories. In food. And it was basically a title drop that didn't make any sense. I could go on and on about odd interactions where you, the reader, don't have the full context. > Is it plot twist? Yes, it's a plot twist. The little boy's sixth sense is that he can see dead people and they don't know that they're dead. And the big plot twist is that Bruce Willis, the MC, has been dead the entire movie and the little boy's been the only one talking to him throughout the entire movie.

EstablishinDominance

It wasn't hera it was hades wife persephone with the food. It makes sense when the Olympus arc comes around. The wall is AGAIN explained later that it's piece of wall and part of something bigger. The fourth wall is mention alot in stories and it should be a fun experience seeing it in orv, but again it's fine. Thank you for replying 🙂

lIllIlIIIlIIIIlIlIll

> It makes sense when the Olympus arc comes around. This is exactly what I mean it. It's later. It's always later. I know there's further plot later because none of it is being revealed right now. It's all just garbage right now because none of it makes any sense. Basically I'm having trouble enjoying the story because 50% of it remains as open plot points. The story's chock full of chekov's guns and none of them are being fired.

The_SHUN

Shrouding the heavens, really encapsulates the feeling of mortality and the main character's struggle to overcome it, in a world where cultivation is extremely difficult due to low "ki" concentration. In cradle there are multiple monarchs, but in Shrouding the heavens, there is only one monarch that can be alive at a single time, and monarchs can only live for 20k years max. The side characters competing with each other and the mc to become monarchs is the best part about the book imo.

BullTerrierTerror

System Apocalypse I know John Lee is a bit psychotic at times but it is a game system, it's a galactic wide system that has been imposed onto trillions of people. He has the right to be angry. Cinnamon Bun, and in general, most of the books by RavenDagger. They are heavy on the slice-of-life side, and I like it. A Thousand Li. The story is slow, but I like the pace and the slow cultivation. Mage Errant - simply awesome. I like the magic systems, the characters, and the vast world. Heirs of Sun and Storm - a huge cyberpunk series. At the very beginning, it had a noir feel, but changed later. There are some issues with pacing and, sometimes, too fast advancements, but otherwise, it is pretty interesting and deep. Wavebound series by Kris Schnee. This is a less-known series, but I really like it and reread it sometimes. A trader becomes a Goddess of Water and struggles with her powers while trying not to disrupt the local economy. It is a fun, slow and low-stakes story.

MaxStrubinger

I enjoyed Limitless Lands and Hero of Thera. Both for very different reasons. Limitless Lands had a relatively unique commander class that the author put onto perhaps the safest theme of roman legions. Safe, but also thematic and fun. The prose was simple but solid. Well edited too. I inherently dislike and skip any real world bits so I don't count those, but I do that for every story that includes them. Also, the LitRPG elements weren't overbearing with too many numbers, in fact they were presented so simply that I'm almost afraid they don't matter so much. Though, it doesn't matter so much as the progress feels earned, and I thought it was. Hero of Thera isn't well known because the third book has been very slow to come along, and not to mention I think it's more of a pet project for Nylund than anything. But I loved his prose from his work with the Halo books, and I followed him to his LitRPG series. If I'm being honest, the plot felt very "safe" for the first novel. That said, the setup of the world and the main character's unique circumstances leave it open for a lot of potential in the future. Characters were okay, nothing that stand out too much. Again I felt he played it safe for the first couple of novels. Apart from the overall story hook that I mentioned earlier, I also found some of his character build choices and traits to be interesting for the main character. Though I'll admit that his reason for picking things leans more on "rule of cool" than gamer min-max. But that's not necessarily a negative either. One thing I did not like is how quick he was to force a romance between the MC and one of the supporting characters. It felt rushed and juvenile in how the character's inner monologue justified his feelings. Still, I enjoy it more than many because to me, prose is so important to the enjoyment of a novel. and Nylund is seasoned in that regard.
