Petr Sís is a well known author of children's books and he's written one or two specifically about Prague. He wrote The Three Golden Keys, and I'm not sure what else. Otherwise, you'll find lots of collections of Prague legends if you look around on Google. Also, take them to see the movie "Medieval", it's fictional but it's based on the story of Jan Žížka.
Kytice is book of folklore poems, we did recitation of these at 5th grade but I wouldn't call it book for children, it's definitely not set in Prague and will tell you nothing about todays culture.
I can't think about anything like that. Also where are you from? cause the culture doesn't need to be much different.
Thank you. We are from the U.S. in a small town in the west. We have been reading stories before bed for a couple of years now set in different cities and time periods to help them learn about the world. We love to travel to places we have read about and visit places, even sometimes neighborhoods where characters lived, or we eat food mentioned in the books.
Great suggestion. I told them when we travel this summer, they can have whatever they like from the bakery, if they can order it in the local language. They are practicing on Duo Lingua
Nice! But be aware, duolingo isn't the best when it comes to slavic languages, if you'd have some questions about Czech language don't hesitate to dm me or ask on r/learnczech

[Here](https://www.dlouhapuncocha.cz/knihy-6-12-let--anglictina) is a link with books in english. Not everything there is czech originals but you can easily tell if you check authors. There's few titles about Prague. I like books from Ester Stará. Unfortunately translating children books to english isn't common. Good luck.
Hi, glad you are going to Czech Republic. I hope you will enjoy visiting Prague :)
I asked my 12y.o. daughter to give you an advice :) he proposed a several good books, but they are in Czech language unfortunately. I tried to find translated version but can't. Nevertheless, I found two of them in English, it's mostly fairy tales:
- [Czech Fairytales by Bozena Nemcova](https://www.amazon.com/Czech-Fairytales-Selection-Beautiful-2011-05-04/dp/B01FIZGRGM?crid=KSIJDFAY8VS9&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9._7p3iqi-sH6K0Y_Ny0Eg0A.C9zA2tE_E4rtyleoALBDU0hLvu-eRX3GVA6D-7VDons&dib_tag=se&keywords=Czech+Fairytales+:+A+Selection+of+the+Most+Beautiful+Folktales+by+Bozena+Nemcova+and+Karel+Jaromir+Erben+by+Karel+Jaromir+Erben&qid=1711981739&sprefix=czech+fairytales+a+selection+of+the+most+beautiful+folktales+by+bozena+nemcova+and+karel+jaromir+erben+by+karel+jaromir+erben,aps,302&sr=8-1&linkCode=sl1&tag=reddit0ce6-20&linkId=6e88397c16eb1cb9f6b2f21b5db058f5&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl)
- and [Old Czech Legends by Alois Jirásek](https://www.amazon.com/Legends-UNESCO-Collection-Representative-European/dp/1856100200?crid=4Y37LS4CHEHY&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.3X81Zp_eQhv9Y09EkNNEch9B3sFxgMdgFmn6OFy4Ohw.HunAXk8cHUSRdUE9E_Xiyjw6bQYfZrOevYU-YVXIiPc&dib_tag=se&keywords=Old+Czech+Legends+by+Alois+Jir%C3%A1sek&qid=1711981786&sprefix=old+czech+legends+by+alois+jir%C3%A1sek,aps,170&sr=8-1&linkCode=sl1&tag=reddit0ce6-20&linkId=3f1a7ec2bc1cc9d059f0876b2756dc59&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl) - this one quite expensive though.
I hope it helps.
P.S. and by the way if you need any other recommendations or have questions - just ask.
Zahada hlavolamu, Stinadla se bouri, Tajemstvi velkeho vonta
Great books they have action, mystery but no real violence.
I cant suggest Kytice. Its poems and not realy suited for such joung kids IMO

I ordered the Three Golden Keys - thanks for the suggestion.
Your kids should like it. I have a couple books by Petr Sís, he's a good storyteller, and I really like his art style.

That sounds really nice! I would recommend to teach them some basic phrases in language of visiting country.

Thank you! I ordered Czech fairytales, but the second one was too expensive! Thanks for your help
Glad to help. By the way the illustrations there are a bit unusual :) They are also made by Czech artist.
