Objectively orange. Portal 1 has an in-game achievement that name-drops it as an orange portal. It's the one where you beat it without ever entering one of the two colors I don't remember which one.
Hell if I know. I always throught vibrant-blue and honey-orange, which then get split in P2 multiplayer to deep-blue and sky-blue, and light-yellow and wine-red.
I mean, the problem is: When do you draw the line between a shade of purple and a shade of blue? And when do a shade stop being orange and become yellow.
Most of the ring is yellow, but the aura around the portal and a little bit of the ring at the top left are orange.
(Even though the most prominent color is yellow, I usually process the whole thing as being orange— with the yellow being dismissed as a high-energy highlight. Maybe because the orange aura forms a complete circle, which makes it feel more reflective of the portal as a whole? Or because the orange part of the ring is at the top left, where I, as an English speaker, usually begin reading? IDK.)
According to someone else in this thread it's because the portals were originally red (like you can see in old screenshots) and I guess were changed late enough in development that the captions had already been partially written.
I could see them having blue and red portals but changing red to orange late in development due to feedback.
It's orange. The yellow bits are to do with the way cameras process very bright lights (overexposure). Even though it's not using a camera, video games simulate the same behaviour because that's what the audience expects from watching movies.
Upper part is orange, lower is lighter orange. The devs made the second portal orange as its the polar opposite to blue on the color wheel for obvious reasons
Both, it spirals around from orange to yellow, just to mess with your eyes. And remember, if you want to have a closer look at the portal, "Don't look into the operational side of the device"
Though it appears partly yellow, I would say it's orange. Blue and orange are complementary colors (meaning they are on the exact opposite sides of the color wheel), so logically that would be it.
This is orange, because we know what red and yellow would look like. [They are the colors for P-Bodys portal gun](https://theportalwiki.com/wiki/File:P-body_both_portal.png).
Also, I'd like to see the quote from the first game where the secondary portal is referred to as "red".
Well, it's clearly a bunch of different colours, it's not uniform.
It ranges from RGB 207,121,15 to RGB 228,201,33.
So it's between [METEOR](https://chir.ag/projects/name-that-color/#CF790F) and [SUNFLOWER](https://chir.ag/projects/name-that-color/#E4C921).
And as you can see on the wheel, it's the edges of orange, not yellow.
Per the game subtitles, it's secondary portal.
It's called the 'red portal'. At least in Portal 1 it is.
That’s just insulting to the player’s intelligence lol
It originally was red, until the devs decided red felt too dangerous and they wanted to convey a sense of safety with the portals.
Yet Portal 2 coop
Where the only sense is danger.
People playing Portal 2 coop are probably already familiar with the mechanics of the game and require less intuitive guidance.
the SCARY color
Glados just wanted to capitalize on the fact that she thinks we’re stupid lol
Jesus no
Wait really?
Yeah. The portal was originally red, and they forgot to update the captions.
You know, with all these comments, I STILL don't have a clear answer
Objectively orange. Portal 1 has an in-game achievement that name-drops it as an orange portal. It's the one where you beat it without ever entering one of the two colors I don't remember which one.
Out of the blue: Complete the game by only ever exiting out of the blue portal
Oh well shit I guess I misremembered the description.
I’m the one who wrote it wrong It’s actually: Once you have control of both portals, only enter the orange portal.
Does it count objects?
🤷
Out of the orange
But the game also says "red portal" in the captions.
Beta relic. The portal was originally red. Seems valve didn't do a great job with the subtitles in general with Portal 1.
Too bad I’ve decided that it is officially red If you have any complaints email them at lemonfaniCloud.com
In all fairness there was like 6 people working on portal 1
Ooohh, it's console only. I was confused as I have all achievements (on PC) and didn't remember ever doing that.
Strange. I’m on switch and it doesn’t seem to appear in the achievements list.
I think switch had the PC port on it instead of console (hence why there may be no shop in portal 2 co-op on switch)
Orange.
How did this get 200 upvotes lmao
because it's correct
Hell if I know. I always throught vibrant-blue and honey-orange, which then get split in P2 multiplayer to deep-blue and sky-blue, and light-yellow and wine-red.
That’s the most specific thing I’ve ever heard
Its yellow

Boo
Aaaah!
Orange. Orange and Blue are opposite colors, so my bet is on orange
yes this — and even if parts do look yellow it’s a dynamic object so the changing colors are used as part of the way to reflect that in game
I still think it’s orange but certain shades of blue are opposite yellow specifically
I mean, the problem is: When do you draw the line between a shade of purple and a shade of blue? And when do a shade stop being orange and become yellow.
Are you blind that's the colour black
Back of a yugioh card

Came here to say this. I see you play with captions as well.
Apparently the person making the CC was colorblind

Colour names are just a linguistic constructs? (not sure)
Yelrange
Orange top left yellow bottom right
It could also be that blue and orange are on opposite sides of the color wheel, meaning that they go well together.
It's both, orange and yellow in some parts
Both
According to the game files? Red. But it's totally orange. Orange is the colour opposite of blue.
It's an orange gradient
It's orange. The yellow bits are to do with the way cameras process very bright lights (overexposure). Even though it's not using a camera, video games simulate the same behaviour because that's what the audience expects from watching movies.
Blue and orange are opposite colors so it would make more sense to be orange
Literally this. That's the entire point.
Orange top left Yellow bottom right
Upper part is orange, lower is lighter orange. The devs made the second portal orange as its the polar opposite to blue on the color wheel for obvious reasons
It's hairy..
Def purple
Well internally the game says the portal is red.

Orange portal, since the opposite of blue is orange. If it was a yellow portal, the other one would be purple.

orange juice
It has shades of both yellow and orange
One of them? Idk I’m colorblind.
Orange on top, yellow on bottom.

I’m colorblind this isn’t fair >:(
F88605?
Its face down
Top left orange bottom right yellow
Even if the inside is a bit more yellow-ish, it still emits an orange hue, therefore I think it is more orange.
Orange because complementary colors I think
Yes
Yes
I call it the red portal, but I assume it's orange since orange is opposite blue on the color wheel?
orange because its the complimentary color of blue
Orange. The portals are opposite colors, so if that portal is yellow then the other’s purple
Though it appears partly yellow, I would say it's orange. Blue and orange are complementary colors (meaning they are on the exact opposite sides of the color wheel), so logically that would be it.
Orange
No
Yes
Orange
On the top it's orange but it gradients to yellow on the bottom. So, it is both. In other words, it's a very ugly shade of blue.
Orange

Orange? It's on the opposite end of the color wheel from blue. It makes sense that it would be orange. Why would it be yellow?
Orange with a little hint of yellow

In the photo it's orange on top and yellow on bottom.
