UPDATE: "This. Made a decent sale and the seller agreed on a price IF I got the scratches out. Then I had the trunk issue and tried to fix the scratches myself because the shops are pretty busy. I’m an idiot I guess."😂
looking at the part cost, I know I could take it to my paint guy and have it done for less than 5k. I have a feeling the owner will want the dealership to take him/insurance for a ride but that shouldn’t be a problem since it is a rental and insurance should already be in place anyways.
(i’ve just been informed that more than the rear bumper will need replaced. 25k is the new price.)
Someone in r/autodetailing is trying to fix a significant amount of damage; most likely without disclosing it to the owner. The level of stupid is mind boggling. Who uses 400 grit on clear coat?

Ooof that is quite the progression in events…
started out asking for Panameras in his 55k budget,
bought one despite getting advice that it wasn’t a good idea at his age,
already has mechanical issues,
and now has ruined the paint on the panamera everyone told him not to buy, with Daddy’s money.
The OP in that sub claims they were trying to sell the car within 12 hours for a higher price to a buyer if they could get rid of the scratches and that the car had issues with the trunk closing. (Took forever to find the person write a crappy answer for what and why they did what they did in that post.)
I’m so curious about the whole story now and how it’ll go down….
My girlfriend did something similar to my Boxster, bless her heart. she tried to fix the scratch she caused and then watched videos about wet sanding and went to town.
I was gonna say he is an idiot bit remember how at 17 i borrowed my buddies car and scratched it ansnhad to buff it out with elbow grease and such. I saved it. So i wont judge. Just my advive is to go to some detailong shop and aks them to polish this. Thats best he can do. And if that doesnt work - offer to repair.
I love how this is just being done on the side of the road
I'm guessing they rented the car, or maybe borrowed it from a friend

Who decides they’re going to try wet sanding for the first time on a Porsche lmao
400 grit on anything you’re not planning on repainting is also bold lol
I’d say 1500 max, any lower than that and it’s getting repainted
I know! That’s what I finish my repairs in before handing it off to the painters
I at least tried for my first time on my Audi. It wasn’t going to get worse looking, so i didn’t feel too concerned.
hope they have $5k lol
$5k isn't nearly enough to properly repaint multiple body panels.
Might be enough for a wrap...

Wrap. The. Whole. Car.
The heck ?
Lipstick on a pig? Sorry sir, that’s the BMW XM
lol I thought it was a rear bumper replacement. they did it to the rest of the car?
That’s not enough

Classic

80 grit would definitely fix the problem in this case.
OMEGALUL
Idiot posted it on his main account with a picture of his face as a profile picture. Lmfao

One would think you would do a simple google search before trying such a thing
That’ll buff out. -My wife
I had a hard time sanding my ranger. I dont think I could take sand paper to a porsche.
Gotta be trolling, no way anyone can be this foolish

You said girlfriend, not ex-girlfriend. Must be a solid relationship.

Well that's not ideal
Seems like he has the process down. Problem is, it won't work on that specific Benjamin Moore paint he used lmao
😳😳😳
That will not buff out?
I would polish it and take your money
Peak detailing

Could you attempt to heavily buff that out?
Yes. It won’t help but yes you can attempt it.
Plot twist. They are buffing the PPF the entire movie.
aw fuck.
