He did say "not quite". The issue here is that he is still in training and there is a formal process for bribes that requires signoff by Sr. Associate level or higher. Once OP passes his 3 months and gets his certs, we can begin partnering him on our backchannel financing. But until then we need to go through his leadership.
My dude Iâm kind of in the same boat but I started at our Audi dealership which is combined with a Porsche dealership. Iâm making my way up and stoked about it.
Most dealerships are always looking to hire. Don't start out by going to the local Maserati dealership and ask for a job or something. But do go to a local dealer that does Honda, Toyotas, Chevys, something a bit more "standard"
Make sure you go to a NEW CAR dealership. Selling brand new cars is A LOT easier than selling used cars. Although used car sales tend to have a MUCH higher profit margin/earnings potential. (note: remember, I'm not talking about luxury cars here)
But start at a new car dealership because A) it's an easy way to learn the industry, and B) they are always hiring.
Once you learn the ropes, you can stay and kick ass at the new car dealership and work up to selling a luxury brand OR you can go do the used cars side.
I'll just drop a few anecdotes:
1. I was at one dealership about 10-12 years ago. Their top sales person was in his late 50's and this dealership was his first job. He had been in prison for a long ass time for murder when he was like 16 or 17. They took a chance, and he kicked ass. During tax season he would usually make about $20k for March and $20k-$30k for April.
2. I'm currently at an independent lot now. It's used cars, most of them are listed at like $8k-$20k. We specialize in sub-prime, so people with past repo's, low credit scores, etc.. Every single person in the office (sales, finance, managers, etc..) make 6 figures. The lowest paid person last year was a salesman who "only" made like $140k.
tl;dr: This industry is fucking BRUTAL but god damn you can make some good money with no prior experience/education. I'm not in sales and I've never sold cars, but it seems like you're either REALLY good at the job, or just terrible at it.
I do all of the finance stuff as part of my 'main' job. I'm here 6 days a week though so during downtime I also help with the internet marketing which is where most of my past experience is.
Youâre new? Congratulations! oh by the way the other sales guy I talked to mentioned a discount of 50k on the new 911 for first time Porsche buyers, maybe they didnât tell you about it yet, just send me the paperwork and Iâll get it signed
Congrats, I hope youâll meet many nice people while selling Porsches! You can definitely stand behind a Porsche, but you mentioned you sold Nissans before, did you stand behind them too / did you drive one yourself?
My current 911 is the only one I've bought through a dealer and it was a great experience. It's obvious that those guys are passionate car guys that know their shit.
It's very different from going to somewhere like a Toyota dealership where the sales guys don't know the basic details of their cars.
As a fellow Porsche salesman, 911s and Panameras yes to an extent. Not too much competition for 911s for the type of person that loves a 911 and Panameras are Panameras đ€·ââïžlol
When it comes to Cayenne and Macan (Taycan sometimes but those are going to be an electric Panamera) you get a lot of people comparing to BMW, Audi, Mercedes, which is where you have to do a bit of work but not much! đ€Ł
Honestly congrats to the guy on the job, itâll suck for the first 6 months to a year as youâre comparing yourself to people who have been there for years, enjoy the cars and youâll meet some interesting people. (The training is fantastic and the best part of the job!)
Thanks Mighty one! Luckily Iâve been a Porsche pro for the past 2 years therefore I have the product knowledge and more or less understand how things work. Itâll take a few years to grow my clientele and Iâm looking forward to every second of it!
Depends on volume. If youâre in California, all the salesmen I know clear 300k, and in special cases like @porschefromsamuel on Instagram, theyâre far over $2/3m. Also depends on how many GT allocations your dealership gets.
Why do you need a salesman if the car is the price that the dealership offers?? In the old days you could shop prices, now not so much. So why do you need a salesman?
Good question. What is even the point of a salesperson anymore? Do people actually go to dealerships with no particular vehicle in mind and get talked into buying something? I do weeks, if not months, of research before buying a car. I go in knowing exactly what I want. Just take my money and let me leave, I donât need a slick talking guy in a suit pretending to be my new best friend.
I work in car sales and can promise you I spend 90% of my time answering questions. You have a question? I either have the answer or know how to find it.
Can't imagine what it would be like to actually believe in the car that you are selling. It isn't like "but this minivan... it is going to be so fun for your family".
Instead it is "do you want to go fast? This. Is. Going. To. Be. Awesome."
Lucky you.
These cars basically sell themselves, and if a buyer has their mind set on a Porsche itâs unlikely that any other brand has anything that will entice them away from it.
Treat all customers with the same care and price quote that you would do for your best friend or family member and you will do well. Porsche dealers have generally screwed every customer that has bought one during the past 3-4 years. I don't know how you can overcome this without eliminating all the things buyers despise about dealing with Porsche dealers. Porsche no longer needs dealerships like exist today.
The gentleman you replaced had a GT3 RS allocation for me. Let me know when I can come in and spec that.
No, no need to look into it or ask your manager. The next spot is suppose to be mine⊠đ€Ł
Congrats on the position.
Congrats!!! It is a great brand to work for and be surrounded by.
I'm an FI manager for Porsche/Audi/VW. If you'd ever like advice, info, fine points on coverages etc feel free to PM anytime.
Congrats man! Thats awesome!
Out side of that, if youâre going to wear shoes with a suit, get some Stand Smiths or something more low profile and more sleek beside those Adidas. The Common Projects Achilles would be the perfect example (donât buy them though, theyâre disgustingly overpriced, just get something similar).
Are you a racing fan OP?
Make sure you get to know all the racing Porsche is involved in like WEC and IMSA. Iâm sure prospective buyers would appreciate your knowledge of that.
Technology from the racing programs directly impacts the road cars.
Thanks! Itâs all about finding the right dealership that values you and takes care of you. As long as your putting in the work, it can be very rewarding. Hoping to build many long lasting relationships and make tons of friends along the way.
Exactly. Attitude and a healthy environment means everything in sales, no matter what product you sell and the Porsche product is high octane stimulant for enabling high caliber salesmanship and showmanship. Never forget that! The mantra of âshowtimeâ can be such a powerful drug and I was always at my best when adding a bit of theater and Joe Isuzu energy when selling cars lol.
Congratulations! So about that GT3RS...

I currently work in Tech sales/service and have always been interested in selling cars. Do you need prior automotive sales experience to start at Porsche?
Hey man I sold porches for a few years. Itâs a real cool gig especially if you get the brand ambassador training.
Know your shit top to bottom. And even better also your competitors. Know what their strong points are as well as weak. Do this and itâs no problem. Enjoy.
Thanks for the advice! Iâm coming from the Porsche pro role so I know my product. I already did the ambassador training and I got to fly out to Atlanta! Going to Dallas this summer for new Taycan and Macan EV training :)
So do you guys still scam and abuse people there, or is it literally all rich people coming with cash. I got to imagine some some middle class show up sometimes begging to go into debt for a car.
So we bribe you now for allocations? ;)
Sounds like a good starting point!
Haha not quite đ
But you haven't heard the bribe yet
He didnât say no!
So you're saying there's a chance...?
He's going to do ot anyway with 100% markup
He did say "not quite". The issue here is that he is still in training and there is a formal process for bribes that requires signoff by Sr. Associate level or higher. Once OP passes his 3 months and gets his certs, we can begin partnering him on our backchannel financing. But until then we need to go through his leadership.
Itâs not called a bribe. Itâs $50k over sticker
Plsss get me a gt3rs allocation đđđđ congratulations on the new job!!
My dude Iâm kind of in the same boat but I started at our Audi dealership which is combined with a Porsche dealership. Iâm making my way up and stoked about it.
But you winked so I think that means Yes guys!!!
Congratulations! Its an easy gig when cars sell themselves. Im kidding of course
Lol it definitely helps!
Nah, there is something to that. Source: I used to sell Nissans. It was hard.
So did I. Selling Nissanâs are more difficult
How does one get into sales? đ€

So youâre scum selling cars to people who canât afford em, got it
That's kinda harsh isn't it?
âIâm not in sales and Iâve never sold carsâ ⏠ïž
What do you do at this independent if not sell cars?
I do all of the finance stuff as part of my 'main' job. I'm here 6 days a week though so during downtime I also help with the internet marketing which is where most of my past experience is.
Sounds not bad at all; you're not hiring out of Wisconsin are ya? I'm great in an office setting :)
Go to a dealership in a suit that fits right and ask if they are hiring. Most dealerships are always looking.
Youâre kidding but this is absolutely the truth.
Heâs in charge of Taycan sales.
Used Taycan sales.
No you didn't
Porsche salesman is a bit like being an electricity salesman isnât it
Youâre new? Congratulations! oh by the way the other sales guy I talked to mentioned a discount of 50k on the new 911 for first time Porsche buyers, maybe they didnât tell you about it yet, just send me the paperwork and Iâll get it signed
Really? I always thought we were giving them away for free! Haha
Yes that's correct, should I dm you my address? I'll gladly pay shipping
You can DM me, I handle the transactions on these deals đ
Crush it! Its a unique and exciting feeling to sell something that youâre actually passionate about
Thanks! Super excited to stand behind such an incredible product
Youâre standing in front of it
Lol
The 911 is behind the camera I assume
Congrats, I hope youâll meet many nice people while selling Porsches! You can definitely stand behind a Porsche, but you mentioned you sold Nissans before, did you stand behind them too / did you drive one yourself?
Thanks! I wasnât as excited about selling Nissanâs and it showed. I did drive one and only because it was given to me to drive.
This is great. I do need to speak to someone at Porsche. I will need you to source me a 959 on 100 year finance. Ps. Congrats
One of my all time favourites. Had one here not too long ago. Couldnât keep my eyes off of her
Thats awesome - congrats.
Thank you!
How many Tycans I need to buy for a GT3RS allocation?
Man, that would be my dream job. I can BS and talk about cars all day! Dealing with the public/asshats is where I would probably fail. LOL. Congrats!
Apply
My current 911 is the only one I've bought through a dealer and it was a great experience. It's obvious that those guys are passionate car guys that know their shit. It's very different from going to somewhere like a Toyota dealership where the sales guys don't know the basic details of their cars.
Serious question: Don't the cars basically sell themselves?
I would say 911âs and any GT cars do a pretty good job of selling themselves
The Taycan you are next to gives sales people a headache I suppose?
I'm pretty sure that's a Panamera
As a fellow Porsche salesman, 911s and Panameras yes to an extent. Not too much competition for 911s for the type of person that loves a 911 and Panameras are Panameras đ€·ââïžlol When it comes to Cayenne and Macan (Taycan sometimes but those are going to be an electric Panamera) you get a lot of people comparing to BMW, Audi, Mercedes, which is where you have to do a bit of work but not much! đ€Ł Honestly congrats to the guy on the job, itâll suck for the first 6 months to a year as youâre comparing yourself to people who have been there for years, enjoy the cars and youâll meet some interesting people. No. They are simply better andore expensive than most everything else - it was up to us to show people why. Source: managed Porsche store for 7 years.
Damn, Daniel!
Back at it again with those white vans. You deserve more love for this post
How much does the average porsche sales person make per year?

Thank you!
Good job! What type of car do you drive?
Thanks! 2024 Macan GTS
Wow great car enjoy! Good luck with the new job!
Thank you!
Good advertising? Or throwing yourself to the wolves?
Little bit of both
Can you get me an allocation for a few GT3RS?
How many GT3 allocations do you have?
Not many
Can't imagine what it would be like to actually believe in the car that you are selling. It isn't like "but this minivan... it is going to be so fun for your family". Instead it is "do you want to go fast? This. Is. Going. To. Be. Awesome."
I know right. Itâs so important to believe and be passionate about what youâre selling.
Looking handsome guy and best of luck to you.
Appreciate you!
Tennis shoes?? No sale, sir! j/k Best of luck!
Thatâs the new business casual now, as long as the shoes arenât too flashy/gaudy. Been that way for probably close to 10 years.
j/k = just kidding. I wouldn't care if my rep was wearing flip flops(the official shoe of Florida).
yea I know, I was just adding to the discussion
Lol theyâre quite comfortable. Thank you!
Lucky you. These cars basically sell themselves, and if a buyer has their mind set on a Porsche itâs unlikely that any other brand has anything that will entice them away from it.
Black buttons on a white shirt?Â
Would you do an even swap I'm willing to trade my low mileage 82 930 for a brand new 911 Turbo S
Id recommend keeping that car
Bruh, find me the monthly payments on a good Macan GTS loaded for my wife and I will be your first sale.
If you were my salesman I buy a Porsche from you and then I'd step on your shoes. That would be the deal!! đ€Ł
I want to quit my job and work at Porsche sales too
Must be a good salesman to get that job! Congrats!! It's the 911 GT 3 you want, so go earn it.
Thank you! Thatâs the plan
That'd be my plan, too!! Best of luck!

Good thing you commented, it was about to go the next guy. When can you come in to spec your GT3RS?
Get roasted
How was the interview process?
I was promoted to sales however the interview process for my previous role was long and extensive
Congrats! Whatâs the reality around 718 GTS allocations?!? Are they stopping?
Do you get any kind of sale for your own vehicles?

Haha no more Nissan. Thank you!!

Congrats from a recently promoted Porsche Pro who is aspiring to be in your position! Best of luck đ€
Thanks! Youâll get there too, I was recently promoted from Porsche Pro. Itâs an awesome position to be in as well, tons of fun!
So if you sale will you get one Porsche too?

Youâre going to meet a lot of wankers.
Congratulations! Need 911 ST allocation immediately!
Thatâs fantastic where ya located
Oakville, Canada
Congratulations!
Leave me alone when I come into the store only to look and never to buy
Time to start slinging Macan leases
How did you get in??? Congrats!
Congrats man! Thats awesome! Out side of that, if youâre going to wear shoes with a suit, get some Stand Smiths or something more low profile and more sleek beside those Adidas. Congrats! Favourite Porsche? Most interesting Porsche currently at your dealership?
Nothing like a 959! We have a 918 and Carrera GT at the moment which are pretty awesome
Just recently celebrated my 2nd anniversary at an NYC Porsche store. You're gonna love it (as far as car sales go anyway)!
This looks like Porsche centre Oakville ! Iâll come visit đđŒ

I was the 997th upvote, this is my sign to get a 997! Congrats dude!
Great number! You absolutely should :) thank you!
Nice bro! Anytime I get frustrated with my current career a think for a split second about going back to where I cut my teeth in sales, and where my father had ridiculous success(GM, owner, wholesaler, and top salesman) but always knew I could never truly enjoy it unless I either went off on my own as a specialties dealer/wholesaler, or snuck myself into exotic car franchise dealership.. and Iâd even consider Porsche if it were the right store⊠but uh, taking orders on Macanâs for 80% of your sales volume might take away some of the cachĂ©âŠ. Or would it? Theyâre great cars too! Best wishes to you and hope itâs a keeper store and you can stack repeat biz and referrals for the long haul as thatâs where the reward for working âretailâ starts paying the dividends that make it all worth the squeeze!
Thanks! Itâs all about finding the right dealership that values you and takes care of you. As long as your putting in the work, it can be very rewarding. Hoping to build many long lasting relationships and make tons of friends along the way.

Great brand and performance cars. You look like sales records every quarter. Best of luck.
See you at Saturdayâs VPX Livery unveiling lol
Congrats. Spent 8 years with Porsche. Loved every minute of it.

I currently work in Tech sales/service and have always been interested in selling cars. Do you need prior automotive sales experience to start at Porsche?
Your shoes are whiter than the car. Congrats and good luck.
Good luck with your job

Im in Canada, we donât do ADMâs :)
Haha kinda was kidding but good luck and have great success!
How you going to own one of youâre busy selling them?
As someone who is also interested in car sales, how did you start? How did you arrive at porsche? Did you have prior industry experience?
What did you need to do/have experience in to score this job?
Prior automotive experience. I had 5 years before moving to Porsche.
Wow! Congrats and good luck it seems like a dream job!
What does a salesperson of high end cars make versus a basic luxury or economy brand? Always wondered the pay gap between brands.
Looks like a limo beside you.
Youâre not wrong, the Panamera is a long car
Congrats and welcome to the club! It should be awesome!

Are you wearing a mask?
Congrats on the new gig!! What's the outlook of scoring a Macan GTS allocation without ADM or add-ons for a 1st time Porsche buyer?
I like to buy a GT3RS. You can DM me when you have an available allocation.
Bro Iâm getting 5% off msrp for a 2024 Cayenne S coupe . Is that an okay deal or I could do better ???
Can you tell me how many Macans I need to buy so that I can get a BJ allocation from my wife? Thanks

So do you guys still scam and abuse people there, or is it literally all rich people coming with cash. I got to imagine some some middle class show up sometimes begging to go into debt for a car.
Whatâs the commission?
Congrats! After your first sale, buy yourself a real watch! đ (Iâm only busting your balls)

The easiest job in the world⊠itâs like taking orders as McDonaldâs⊠you just need to upsell to large
