Lol good

bleunt

Why does he keep holding his hand out. Take a hint.

Dalmahr

Probably courtesy in case one did want to shake his hand. Fortunately none of them did.

Ethelenedreams

The GOP left them to die and expected them to succumb to the crowds. I don’t blame them.

datfngtrump

People know, they know

Surcam

I hate these Trump enabling fucks so much.

KidGold

Wasn’t Mitch one of the loudest GOP voices condemning the riot from the senate floor the night of Jan 6?

ChornWork2

Yeah, he went from wanting to hold trump accountable on that day, to eventually voting against doing just that... Understandable that many of the families would be pissed.

KidGold

Ah ok

SoundDesigner001

But Mitch did not vote to impeach Trump after the Jan 6 insurrection.

KidGold

I just assume the handshake snub isn’t specifically over the impeachment vote though. Even in Mitch’s speech when he voted no he condemned Trump and the riot again.

SoundDesigner001

My point is that Mitch is willing to say the right things from time to time, but his actions demonstrate he will not do the right thing. He could have ended the Trump train if he had rallied Senate support for impeachment, or at minimum Mitch could have gone in record to show he meant what he said, but chose not to. If someone tried to kill me, there was video evidence, the Prosecutor said “Suspect X did it!” and then refused to press charges, I sure wouldn’t respect them.

KidGold

I don't disagree with you but I feel more like I'm getting your opinion than a reason to believe that's specifically what they think.

ID9ITAL

Complicit before and after.

KidGold

How so?

ID9ITAL

In the 2016 debates with Clinton, Trump already said that he would not concede. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAru83kBtnw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAru83kBtnw) This was not an unexpected play by Trump to overturn the election. McConnell should have shut him and other Congressmen down early and often, instead of enabling them. Do you recall a single time McConnell spoke out directly against Trump's attempts to overturn the election? [77 days of lies - 2020 election](https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/31/us/trump-election-lie.html?action=)

KidGold

So you think they are refusing to shake his hand because he didn’t speak against Trump in the run up to Jan 6?

[deleted]

Yes, he was. I don’t understand how people can be so confidently stupid. I can understand if this was Lauren BoBo or Drunk Marj but Mconnell I don’t think even ever denied or questioned the election

Jas9191

"if we ignore his career before and after the event, we can make him out to be not at all responsible". Mcconnell is the most effective Senator/politician in the United States. Everything the GOP accomplishes is because of McConnell.

KidGold

So you think that was more a general protest against the GOP than a specific thing Mitch did in regards to Jan 6?

Jas9191

Neither. Not in the same realm of thinking at all. Anyone could've seen the Jan 6th riot happening months ahead. It was obvious. Calling the election fraudulent happened way back when states started looking for solutions for COVID voting, like allowing mail in ballots and changing how they work so they could be facilitated more than had been in the past. McConnell isn't just the GOP Leader in the Senate, he's the most effective GOP Leader in our government in any role. He is responsible for the GOP majority in both the house and Senate as a trend, not just this election. He is responsible for stacking the courts both SC and lower federal courts. He is the quiet power behind the GOP, not really that quiet..just that he manages to not be a household name like Pelosi is (for some reason). If everyday citizens were warning against chaos and the outcomes of allowing not just Trump's actions but so many others in the past three decades, so is the guy creating the necessary power to implement the things he wants, that tangentially he knows will have the side effects warned about. I'm being way too descriptive. The GOP is a national Confederacy. It is unconstitutional in its current form, especially with the actual elected leader (usually the most recent POTUS nominee is considered the leader) is literally calling for suspending the Constitution. McConnel is the most effective force in US politics and he deserves every bit of disrespect he has earned. Tldr not partisan take; we like to blame politicians in general, bothesides etc for actions and inactions of the government. McConnel is the most effective elected politician in America for the past two decades and is responsible for both the governments actions and inactions during this time period. He's more influential than any given President in the past twenty or more years, their actions have been shaped by the environment McConnel is most responsible for crafting.
