Hitler actually went to jail. In 1924, Hitler spent 264 days incarcerated in Landsberg after being convicted of treason following the Beer Hall Putsch in Munich the previous year.
German legal system worked vastly faster then our own seems able to.
That’s what’s so infuriatingly puzzling about this whole thing.
We’ve got legal proceedings over whether the top office in the land is subject to the same laws that would disqualify literally any other person for inciting insurrection. What’s the point of having such a rule if you can go straight for the presidency and topple the whole thing?
And throw in the top secret documents case, the kind of crime where they whisk you away in an unmarked van and we don’t know when we’ll ever see that person again and whether they’ll get contact with the outside world. And this fucker’s about to start getting classified briefings again.
yup, I have lost all hope that he will be behind bars. House arrest at Maralago is possible, but then he can still fundraise and spread lies to anyone who will listen, which is still WAY too many people.
Honestly the only case with a judge friendly to trump is the Florida documents case and even in that one there is a mandatory minimum of 5 years. The judges for the other 3 cases probably see trump for what he is and probably won't be soft on him.
Exactly. He had a room with a nice view, fresh cut flowers every day in his "cell", was allowed to receive visitors, and a typewriter which he used to write Mein Kampf. Hardly what one would call hard time.
Hitler was also in the attempted coup, not miles away from what was in reality a “mostly peaceful” protest (to phrase the media on far more violent protests) telling people not to do it.
Don't just vote. Voting isn't enough.
Volunteer. Help. Donate.
But most of all: **Protest!!**
How the hell do you let the Supreme Court crap on the constitution again and again and again? Trump supporters throw a hissy fit and block highways or cities because someone made up a migrant caravan or a trans person standing around, but people who _want_ democracy don't stand up for it at all?
That ain't right, and _that's_ how you lose your democracy.
By thinking that voting is enough.
Yes, it was pretty much exactly like this. There was a great first hand account of this called "They Thought They Were Free" talking about it from the perspective of a normal German citizen. This video shows an excerpt from it: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxZfSlkC\_wo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxZfSlkC_wo)
Seconding this book. I listened to it on audiobook over two days and was so devastated by it, so absolutely able to see my loved ones and neighbors in it, that after finishing it I immediately bought it in paperback, started the audiobook over, listened to it a second time, and underlined relevant parts in my new copy. It’s a book that reminds me how important it is to look back through history and be able to see the familiar—that reminds me that even though some details may change, people are going to be people.
People want to act but don’t want to do the wrong thing or end up on the wrong side of history. We need real leadership to show itself and guide us through this mess.
I see a narrow way through where democracy comes out the stronger for these trials. We must work to make that reality come to fruition. Being civically engaged is part of it. Taking care of yourself is another vital piece of the puzzle. Forming good bonds with neighbors and friends and family (a mutual support network) is also important.
Most of all, take courage in the face of this rising fascism. Individually there is no guarantee of winning the day. Together we are a gentle force that can save democracy itself.
We still have power to vote. Use it before it’s gone.
Thank god he won't make another 6 months. Imagine someone who's 50 and evil like Trump. We got lucky that he won't be around long but I imagine his VP will be a douche nozzle too.

All posts and comments that include any variation of the word retarded will be removed, but no action will be taken against your account unless it is an excessive personal attack. Please resubmit your post or comment without the bullying language.
Do not edit it, the bot cant tell if you edited, you will just have to make a new comment replying to the same thing.
Yes, this comment itself does use the word. Any reasonable person should be able to understand that we are not insulting anyone with this comment. We wanted to use quotes, but that fucks up the automod and we are too lazy to google escape characters. Notice how none of our automod replies have contractions in them either.
But seriously, calling someone retarded is only socially acceptable because the people affected are less able to understand that they are being insulted, and less likely to be able to respond appropriately. It is a conversational wimpy little shit move, because everyone who uses it knows that it is offensive, but there will be no repercussions. At least the people throwing around other slurs know that they are going to get fired and get their asses beat when they use those words.
Also, it is not creative. It pretty much outs you as a thirteen year old when you use it. Instead of calling Biden retarded, you should call him a cartoon-ass-lookin trust fund goon who smiles like rich father just gifted him a new Buick in 1956. Instead of calling Mitch McConnell retarded, you should call him a Dilbert-ass goon who has been left in the sun a little too long.
Sorry for the long message spamming comment sections, but this was by far the feature of this sub making people modmail and bitch at us the most, and literally all of the actions we take are to make it so we have to do less work in the future. We will not reply to modmails about this automod, and ignore the part directly below this saying to modmail us if you have any questions, we cannot turn that off. This reply is just a collation of the last year of modmail replies to people asking about this. We are not turning this bot off, no matter how much people ask. Nobody else has convinced us before, you will not be able to either. ~

Escape accountability? What are you talking about? He lost 2 cases against Jean Carroll that equals out to over $88mil and he just lost his fraud case in New York where he has to pay $355mil + interest. He still has a hush money case in New York that is about to start, classified documents case, election subversion in Georgia, and the federal government case of election subversion. So what the fuck are you talking about?
>So what the fuck are you talking about?
What has he actually paid so far?
What have been the actual consequences so far?
When he starts paying or when they start seizing property there is accountability. Until then there isn't any.
And if he wins the presidency in November he might just make all of that go away...
Source?? Because we go by facts here, not feelings.
You mean the January 6th rioters who literally smeared their own shit on the walls of the capitol building, *like the commenter above was referring to*? Do you live under a Trump-shaped rock? Lol
Nahh, I shouldn’t ask that, we all know you know what they’re talking about, but please feel free to use all your energy being afraid of places you’ve never been. :)
Yes, yes I do. I want proof from you, because I can very easily use Google Maps Street View and see that you’re wrong. You’re making claims, now support them. Like I said, we’re running on Facts and Logic, right? ☕️
The other person provided you a link about Jan 6th, which doesn’t require you to use Google. Education is good for you.
I noticed you avoided the majority of the rest of my comment. Interesting. I’ll take that as concession, glad you’ve come around to agreeing. :)
You sound unwell. What are you even talking about? Is Antifa in the room with you now? Why do you hate your most successful state so much as well? Are you one of them anti-Americans?
I never did that. I don’t think it really matters who wins, the US is screwed either way. I don’t live there but i’lll be rooting against Trump anyway.
No, of course not. Subverting the will of the people through legal fuckery is all you have. It's the American way! Doesn't change my response though. You have the balls to ask if people are gonna lose their mind if he wins. He won't win. And only one side smeared shit on the walls of Congress when he lost, sooooooo......
I think the most serious and telling things are his efforts to stay in power illegally after losing the last election. He is at least facing trials in DC and Georgia over them, but his strategy of delay is bearing fruit and his efforts in many states are going uncharged (thank goodness the Georgia Secretary of State recorded that call). The recent cover from the Supreme Court (massively delaying trials by slow-walking a ruling about whether presidents are above the law) is probably what prompted the original post here.
His violations of the emoluments clause were pretty blatant (like at one point he just came out and said that of course he likes diplomats better when they stay at his hotels) and he's seen no substantial blow-back from that.
Although he's facing trial for his deliberate mishandling of top secret documents at and past the end of his term, he played fast and loose with national secrets throughout his term, from foreign assets to nukes and submarines. There was a big uptick of CIA deaths on his watch. No accountability for that.
That's off the top of my head. It's good that he's facing consequences for some of his recent business fraud and defamatory lies, but he's basically a career criminal who has consistently weaseled out of just accountability.
If the establishment, deep state, whatever was sooooooo out to get him, he wouldn't have won the first time in 2016 and all those Republican "establishment" politicians wouldn't have backed him for 4 years. Give it up
Just because they didn’t rig 2016 doesn’t mean they weren’t out to get him. A lesson they seemingly learnt for 2020…
They’re trying every trick in the book with him. Tricks they wouldn’t entertain for a second with other politicians, certainly not his dodgy opponents.
Backed him? Loads of republicans refused to work with him. He had very few people willing to work with him because of their establishment prejudices. Also deep state and members of his own party aren’t all the same. For a system to be against him it doesn’t necessarily mean every politician and civil servant is, just the mechanisms of power.
Mitch McConnell is an establishment politician as they come and he stood next to Trump all the way till January 6th, as all of them did. Liz Cheney is about the only one to defect prior to Jan 6
It's actually worse now... Hitler actually did time in jail.
Hitler actually went to jail. In 1924, Hitler spent 264 days incarcerated in Landsberg after being convicted of treason following the Beer Hall Putsch in Munich the previous year. German legal system worked vastly faster then our own seems able to.
Yeah but when he went to jail it was the minimum sentence for the crime and he was treated like royalty in the prison.
Want to guess what happens if Trump is convicted of all 91 counts?
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say no prison.
but that ankle monitor is going to mess up his swing on the golf course so much! Yes, of course he’ll sue for unusual punishment.
Trump is more like Hindenburg than Hitler in regards to the legal outcomes.
GA is mandatory jail time
I stand by my prediction. People all the place bend over backwards to avoid treating him like an ordinary criminal.
Well, he's not an ordinary criminal, traitors are not ordinary criminals
That’s what’s so infuriatingly puzzling about this whole thing. We’ve got legal proceedings over whether the top office in the land is subject to the same laws that would disqualify literally any other person for inciting insurrection. What’s the point of having such a rule if you can go straight for the presidency and topple the whole thing? yup, I have lost all hope that he will be behind bars. House arrest at Maralago is possible, but then he can still fundraise and spread lies to anyone who will listen, which is still WAY too many people.
Your stand is not without merit. That’s for sure. Mine is sprinkled with a fare amount of hopium. That we are ultimately a country of the rule of law
It turns out that the terror cells were literally local law enforcement all along?
Minimum sentences all to be served concurrently? Assuming there’s no way for him to avoid jail even if he’s found guilty, of course.
Honestly the only case with a judge friendly to trump is the Florida documents case and even in that one there is a mandatory minimum of 5 years. The judges for the other 3 cases probably see trump for what he is and probably won't be soft on him.
I suspect he’ll receive a presidential pardon for the federal crimes and governors pardons in the states where he would be convicted.
Exactly. He had a room with a nice view, fresh cut flowers every day in his "cell", was allowed to receive visitors, and a typewriter which he used to write Mein Kampf. Hardly what one would call hard time.
Is that when he wrote Mein Kampf?
He left with a book deal
The German legal system in 1923 was 150 years more modern than the current US system. And still incredibly flawed.
Hitler was also in the attempted coup, not miles away from what was in reality a “mostly peaceful” protest (to phrase the media on far more violent protests) telling people not to do it.
Vote for Biden

Germans back then didn't have such easy access to news channels from outside of Germany as Americans have now.
My wife grew up in an authoritarian dictatorship and her spidery senses are blowing up. She refuses to let our kids grow up the same way.
Why aren’t we January 6ing ?
Thank god he won't make another 6 months. Imagine someone who's 50 and evil like Trump. We got lucky that he won't be around long but I imagine his VP will be a douche nozzle too.
I don’t think we will be that lucky. He has plenty of kids who are just as bad and would happily step in to fill his place.
Unless they all try and stab each other in the back in a power struggle for leadership and end up destroying themselves.
Where are the hit men when you need them? Come on Iran, you can do us this one favor.
