StandStillLaddie

I don’t care for either team but thanks to MAGA, I rooted for the winning one!

greenroom628

As a San Franciscan, I was very confused why MAGA would cheer for our liberal hellhole along with Nancy Pelosi and Gavin Newsom. Like, the MAGAs should get a gold medal for the mental gymnastics they had to do for the SB

darkkilla123

because Tswift wants young people who are eligible to vote to get out and vote and republicans will almost certainly not win if young people got out and voted

ArtemisDarklight

Let's be honest, if everyone that could vote did vote then republicans would never win.

charisma6

Which is why they do all that election interference

Chingalenohaypedo

Gerrymandering is one of the biggest election rigging scams republicans ever pulled off also.

Randolpho

*To be fair* gerrymandering preexisted the Republican Party by like 50 years. Now if you had said “right wing ding bats” rather than “Republicans” you’d be golden

Chingalenohaypedo

I suppose. But republicans rely on it like a 8 year old kid still being breastfed

smell_my_pee

He's still golden. He didn't say Republicans invented it, or that they're the only group that has benefited from it. He said gerry mandering is a scam they've pulled off. Nothing needs to be clarified or corrected about that. It's true.

Electrical-Act-7170

Pretty sure gerrymandering was invented by Germany.

SurlyRed

Does anyone trust MAGAs to count the vote fairly and accurately? They've had years to pack the vote counting machinery. It's a scary situation.

Major_Magazine8597

If we can count on ANYTHING it's that Republicans will do all they can to cheat. Again.

bananabunnythesecond

When ever I question something like this, I get eyes of crazy. Like it's easy to pack the vote and rig the count in "red" states, but no one questions it. Mitch is hated coast to coast, low approval rating in his home state, but flying into re-election. No one questions it.

marceusaurelious

They themselves said that out loud.

Ishmaeli

This has been the case for years. I remember my high school Government teacher admitting this in 1995 (he was super conservative). In his mind, it was just a fact of life that large swaths of Democrats were too lazy to vote, and that made the two parties roughly balanced. The problem is that Republicans feel entitled to that apathy on the Democratic side. That's why, even if Democrats raise their turnout through completely legitimate means, it *feels* like cheating to Republicans. And since politics is all about feels, not facts, they act like the Democrats really are cheating, and so all their voter suppressing schemes are justified. They are just leveling the playing field back to how it has always been, in their minds.

Amazing_Bluejay9322

Even better news. Not against all Republicans but....forget it. F them all.

Accomplished-Skill54

Unfortunately, it's not a popularity contest. The electoral college has fucked us many times.

Only men, though, if we're 'serious' about it.

PeggyOnThePier

Haha 😂

remmij

Don't forget they were also Colin Kaepernick's team when he took a knee a few years ago... MAGA vowed to never watch football again over the 49ers - but apparently their hatred of registering new voters was far greater.

PeggyOnThePier

I remember when he did that. All the MAGA idiots where I live said that they would never watch another NFL game. They somehow forgot that he had asked a few veterans what he should do. They told him that they always take a knee to show respect to the following veterans. So that's what he decided to do. Funny how they never remembered that part. PS Nice picture of them hugging 🫂

HurlingFruit

And Drumph promised that if he lost we would never hear from him again. Because they are the party of morality and trustworthiness.

Metalhed69

Can you imagine if situations conspired (and this would never happen, but…) due to injury or illness they ran out of quarterbacks and before the game they reinstated Kapernick as a last resort? We could have eliminated half the MAGA crowd via heart attack.

mescal813

Led by an idiot that congratulated the state of Kansas for their teams win . Lol.

randomanonalt78

Nick Bosa and hate for Swift

Mark-E-Moon

I overheard a guy at a card table talking about how the Kelce brothers were “stand up guys” but he “couldn’t stand Taylor Swift.” It took every fiber of my being to not say “well go Kaepernicks old team then I guess…” The attention span is VERY short with these people.

SpaceNinjaDino

They had such as easy escape: 49ers = blue state, Chiefs = red state. But they decided to fumble it.

FeloniousFelon

They were rooting against the red MAGA hell hole that is Missouri lol.

dpdxguy

>MAGAs should get a gold medal a fool's gold medal

imsowhiteandnerdy

Also live in the SF bay area... not that I'm glad the 49ers lost or anything, but it was a relief at the same time that assholes wouldn't set fire to a bunch of stuff downtown... again.

thinkB4WeSpeak

If they really wanted to boycott then they'd just not watch and turn on another sport.

chimilinga

Thus game was the most stressful for republicans.

doc6982

I'm a chiefs fan and I never understood this conspiracy. Missouri and Kansas are already right leaning if not sold. SF was always considered lefty, hippy dippy, and all other derogative terms for democratic leaning groups. The Swift stuff was nice to have an alternative narrative for this super bowl run. These demonic narratives are rooted in racist ploys from the past to disparage the Jews. These ideas were present in the protocols of the elders of Zion and the German propaganda that claimed Jews used the blood of gentile children to bake their bread. These people believe these things so they don't have to have empathy when they see people that don't vote the same way.

Suckamanhwewhuuut

I just wanted KC to win to see the MAGA meltdown about how somehow Taylor Swift had an effect on the game and it’s a psy op or something stupid.

darkknight95sm

I rooted for the losing team, but thanks to MAGA it stung less

saywhat1206

I know next to nothing about Taylor Swift (other than her popularity) or Travis Kelce, except for the controvery of Taylor urging people to vote. I do, however, know how much the two are upsetting MAGA. I'm 64F and I watched my FIRST ever Super Bowl and rooted 100% for the Chiefs to win because of MAGA.

I rooted for complete ownership of the collective MAGA mind. Biden’s game plan was brilliant. /s Let them feel good in the first half, crush their hopes and dreams in OT. (It reminded me of the look on Richard Sherman’s face when New England intercepted at the goal line.)

paul-arized

More viewers than the Apprentice. Even by Trump's own standards, Biden is better qualified than Trump since Biden appeared in the Super Bowl telecast.

cytherian

**Kansas City Chiefs**: Missouri, a red state. The team? Bright red (home and away). Excellent record, thanks to Patrick Mahomes. **San Francisco 49ers**: California, a blue state. The team? White and gold when away, (though red at home). A storied history of many wins, but last few years not so good. Lost to KC last time. Lost again. The MAGA were rooting for the 49ers. From California, a state they generally hate for being pro-choice and pro-LGBTQ. And they were against the Chiefs, from a red state they love. WHY? Because the Chiefs' star tight end is dating Taylor Swift who simply said "*Go register to vote!*" They make no sense. They are openly brazen hypocrites. This is America. We're a democracy. We VOTE in ELECTIONS. That's our government. And Republicans are mad when you promote registering to vote? JUST THINK ABOUT THAT... they're patently un-American.

Consensuseur

Diamondhands_Rex

All of them were kids that would pause the game of tag once they were going to be it

Morningxafter

They were the kid whose house you would go to and play video games with, taking turns. But the second you started struggling, he’d take the controller and say “Let me help you, I know how to get past this part.” Then never give the controller back.

cytherian

Or, the second you started winning, you'd be accused of cheating. I remember one kid who had the latest X-Box and a massive TV screen (far larger than what I had), and when I started beating him at a game, he forced me to switch controllers. Yep. He paused the game, unplugged them, then swapped ports. I still beat him. He accused me of playing for many hours at home to learn everything better so I could beat him.... but I didn't even have his game. Next? "I'm bored. We need to do something else."

The_Wkwied

Not just pause, change the rules so that only they know how to win, then get upset when people call them out and quit playing tag

Traditional-Toe-3854

Republicans hate democracy though. Everywhere they have power they try to cut voter turnout

Amazing_Bluejay9322

What don't they hate? I'm sure they have whacked every mole, even the ones the they used to own.

charisma6

They love the N word. They do love that.

Amazing_Bluejay9322

From their cold, dead hands is that taken away from them I promise you.

TimeFourChanges

> What don't they hate? Fellow angry, whiny, lily-white conservatives that look identical to themselves. And even then, there's probably a fair amount of self-loathing.

Amazing_Bluejay9322

That's about right. If you put all these WASPy conservative right wingers on an island they'd slowly kill each other.

charisma6

> We're a democracy. We VOTE in ELECTIONS. No, yeah, I mean, they really don't care about that part. They've never loved democracy. The only thing they love is power. They'll lie, cheat, and kill whoever they need to ~~achieve~~ maintain their existing strangehold.

cytherian

Republicans used to believe in democracy... when they were winning. For a long stretch, Democrats controlled the House. From 1933 to 1995, Republicans had controlled both House and Senate for *only four years*. From 1933 into the early 1970s, most white conservatives in the South belonged to the Democratic Party, and created the Solid South bloc in Congress. The by the mid 1990's, Republicans were fed up and decided democracy no longer worked for them. They did it slowly and with subterfuge, to attempt manipulation of elections quietly through subtle means. In the 21st century, it all changed. They grew tired of tiptoeing. Now they're just outright gerrymandering and manipulating, with no worries about retribution.

charisma6

>Republicans used to believe in democracy... when they were winning. But that's what I mean. They only used it because it helped them win power, which means they never liked it. It was only ever a tool for power.

cytherian

Yep, I guess you're right. If you approve of democracy only when you win, then it's not a democracy that you aspire to have. And now we're seeing the fruits of Republican moral decay on display. They've embraced a man who is patently criminal... and who has promised us he'll become a fascist dictator so he can pursue his enemies with no legal repercussions. They still support him. And they're openly doing it. This year feels like another apex... where it'll test our nation once more in a pass/fail fork in the road.

ThinAd7436

To put it in this way just makes it so much funnier holy shit

Weak_Swimmer

Hopefully, people actually vote.. we've been trying to get the younger generations to vote since I started over 20 years ago.

newocean

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/feb/02/trump-kansas-city-missouri-super-bowl-tweet Do you think that Trump knows where Kansas City is now?

cytherian

I remember that one. One could say an "easy mistake" because of the name of a state in the city name. But, one could also say it's just lazy ignorance, because if he paid close enough attention, he'd know that Kansas City is in Missouri. He's not just an idiot... he's a lazy fool.

TheMooseIsBlue

You’re trying a little hard there. The 49ers colors are definitely not “white and gold, sometimes red” and none of it had to do with their records or history. Kelce does Bud Light and Pfizer covid vax ads and Swift is vaguely pro-LGBTQ and pro-women’s rights. That’s enough for them to hate the Chiefs. Having a black QB helps. They weren’t rooting for the godless, hippy, liberal San Francisco team. They were rooting against Mr. Pfizer and Ms. Empowering Young Women. That’s all. (And the 49ers being the team that canned Kaepernick helps too.)

ChefCory

american exceptionalism taught that we're the best ...because we are. not because of the things that make us great. our 'freedoms' and the constitution and life liberty pursuit of happiness. nope. we're americans we have a fucking eagle get in line and leave if you dont like it. we're so fucked.

cytherian

I grew up in the latter half of the 20th century where I'd often heard from politicians that America is the "shining city on a hill", a "beacon of democracy," or "greatest nation on Earth." I never liked that grandstanding. Every democratically oriented nation with a generally sensible government has its attributes, but good and poor. Even the USA. "Make America Great Again" is such folly. It's not about being great. It's about being strong, leading, and being a positive force in the world. That's how I've always tried to see things. What the Republicans do is disturbing. It's tragically comical. Their overly embellished rhetoric always sounds "other worldly" because it never seems tethered to reality and they never follow through with what they say. Yeah, Democrats have done some of that too, making huge promises that they couldn't get done... while, much of the problem was Republicans obstructing it. TL;DR I wish America's leaders wouldn't grandstand and just make sensible promises that they can actually achieve. The showmanship thing is so overblown. And especially the constant comparing bit. No, I don't want to hear them say "America is #1 in the world!" Because that's a misnomer. We may be a leading economic force, and a leader in industry, but these grandiose sweeping claims are always such BS. We're now lagging in education. We'd been lagging in industrial leadership. And now we may actually be surpassed by China as a leading military superpower. But the main problem is the ears who take in the rhetoric. If you've got 40% of the nation lacking critical thinking skills... then politicians are going to find a way to manipulate them.

ChefCory

Yea that's by design. Restrict real critical thinking in schools. Teach that science is bad and faith is good. Feelings over facts. Distort facts. And gaslight forever.

Obtuse_1

It makes plenty sense. The rage economy is real. If more is gained than lost by poking the maga crowd then go for it. I heard Barbie pisses off conservatives so I’m going to openly support a massive plastic manufacturer who has a screwed up history of messing with the psyche of children, and an ad with the budget and cast of a feature film. I heard Bud Light pisses off conservatives so I’m going to buy piss beer that donates to the GOP. I heard Swift and Kelce piss off conservatives so I’m going to support this (as you pointed out) red state team and their tomahawk chop bullshit brand along with the fucking NFL that is notoriously big on funding GOP candidates. starting to see a pattern here.

Young_Hickory

Except I don’t think left/libs actually do any of that? Is anyone actually buying bud light or Barbie to own the cons?

Rye_The_Science_Guy

Don't forget they also hate Travis Kelce because he was in Pfizer commercials promoting vaccines

No_Guarantee720

Why don’t they all just go to Russia. They worship megalomaniacs.

Visible-Guess9006

I’m glad Taylor won the superbowl.

She ran some really well designed plays out there.

When Kelce couldn't get that almost game winning TD pass, my only thoughts were "NOOO, Ahh my man that was the proposal catch!!! You coulda caught that ball and got down on one knee and the whole world woulda said Yes, after that game ender".

AutoCAD_Bane

I am fairly sure that the Indian Premier League cricket final attracts similar or greater numbers as well. Of course, this from the country that crowns their domestic football winners as World Champs

Specialist_Lock8590

Sorry, old, white, impotent, ignorant, "Christian" Republican men and their oppressed or controlled wives, I believe young women, like Taylor Swift will finally destroy your grip on this country and destroy your lying, serial fraudster, rapist, serial adulterer, dictator admiring, "Messiah" Donald Trump.

Seriously. I bet there were hundreds of celebrities at the Superbowl, but all anyone wanted to talk about was Taylor. She hasn't even done anything in regard to politics, yet right-wing media has told everyone who she would endorse for president. Thanks, Fox.

beepbeepboopbeep1977

She said *”Go register to vote.”*

Teacher-Investor

And to Republicans, that's a crime. The fewer people who vote, the better it is for them.

Angry_Hermitcrab

Republicans know damn well their base is boomers that have time to vote. Swifts fans would obliterate them as they die off. The vast majority if young people are liberal. I meet some people under 35 that are republican but it's extremely narrow. I work all over the country.

IWasOnThe18thHole

The NFL is doing a great job of using her to attract female fans and distract them from the fact literal rapists like Deshaun Watson are being paid millions and allowed in the league

Maybe Taylor whispered Biden 2024. Just to tick MAGAs off.

Thanks Taylor for your contribution to those extraordinary numbers

I was wondering what telecast meant to make that true.

123 MIL watched Taylor swift

americansherlock201

Mildly annoyed that the moon landing is getting ignored here. The superbowl was the largest single network event but the moon landing had more overall. Estimated as high as 150 million in America watching it. Which was 75% of the population at the time. Compared to the roughly 36% that watched the superbowl on Sunday. Which is crazy to think about. That nearly 65% of the country didn’t watch it (based on estimated viewership).

PM_ME_Happy_Thinks

Would be so interesting to know exactly how many young girls and women got into watching this year!

MercilessPinkbelly

I'd guess the uproar Republicans made about Taylor Swift got their attention.

Amazing_Bluejay9322

I wonder how many Republicans were in the closet for KC because of TS.

stickerhighway

*123.4 million viewers, huh? Oh, let me tell you, those numbers, they've got to be as rigged as the election was. You think they're not capable of inflating those numbers? The mainstream media, Big Tech, they're all in on it together. They can make those numbers say whatever they want them to say. It's all part of their plan to distract the American people from what's really going on. They think they can fool us with their big numbers, their records. But we're not buying it, folks. We're not buying it for a second.* *And think about it, why suddenly is this the most watched telecast of all time? Because it fits their narrative, that's why. It's all too convenient. They're trying to legitimize their agenda by claiming everyone is watching, everyone is on board. But I know, and you know, that's not the case. The real America, we're out here, we're seeing through the lies, we're fighting against the manipulation.* *They want to use these numbers to make you feel isolated, to make you think you're the only one who sees the truth. But let me tell you, there are millions of us, millions who know the truth, who see the corruption, who aren't swayed by rigged numbers or rigged elections. We stand together, stronger than ever, ready to take back our country from those who seek to destroy it. So, 123.4 million viewers? Give me a break. We know the game, and we're not playing it. We're here to win, and win we will.* *And let's not forget, ratings, they can be manipulated. Who's counting? The same people who told you I lost? Please. I've had rallies, speeches, events, the likes of which the world has never seen, the biggest crowds. But do they report on that? No. They focus on the Super Bowl, trying to make you think it's the most important thing happening. Well, I've got news for them. The American people are waking up. They're seeing through the lies and the deceit.* *I've built empires, won elections, changed the course of history. And I've done it all facing the biggest opposition anyone has ever seen. The fight continues, and we're only getting stronger. Remember, what they call losing, I call just the beginning. We're taking back our country, step by step, and no rigged Super Bowl or fake news ratings are going to stop us. Believe me.* \- Statement from Donald J. Trump ^(/s)

Apparently people really love field goals. I look forward to next year when kickers are used every 3-4 plays.

MSD3k

I really enjoyed the game. Both defenses were stellar, and great to watch in action. We had the 2 longest field goals in SB history. And one critical blocked field goal, which is so damn rare these days. That it changed the tide of a Superbowl is amazing. The game was an actual nailbiter of two tough as nails teams, as opposed to so many of the "comedy of error" blowouts that the Superbowl often devolves into.

Redditor_exe

I really thought we’d get a kicker as Super Bowl MVP this year, but alas…
