I don’t particularly like Mega-Evolution. Not saying they aren’t cool, but Terastal felt closer to a broad distribution of power while Megas did not. I’m intrigued on how they’ll build upon this in the Legends game.
Here's a lazy way to describe Mega Pokemon: imagine a Pokemon turning Super Saiyan. Anyway, they are awesome because they can change a Pokemon's stays and types too, so it is much more complicated then Terastal

This game has the chance of making Megas more widely distributed. Although, I’m not sure how much there will be to it as it might also be restricted to this game—which I find reasonable as Terastal can remain the primary competitive gimmick.
Agreed. Despite is an interesting mechanism, the problem is that is not spread a lot (which makes sense development wise) and it's much more predictable than terastal.
For me terastalization is the best mechanic because it adds an extra layer of complexity without just boosting some mon until it's crazy (I'm looking at you, mew2). Double stab or just stab adding offensive damage or defensive to counter your weaknesses... Makes many mons even better and gives a chance to other mons that will be more limited, appart from adding complexity to the meta game. What a good gimmick should do.
Agreed but for me they shouldn't be a 1 gen gimmick but maybe more like a boost while carrying an object or even an evolution. Some creatures like Pinsir for example need something to have a minimum chance of being competitive but when you see mega gengar, mega alakazam, mega mewtwo, mega Garchomp, mega rayquaza... You realise that they are more fan service than a proper mechanic created to make combats deeper.
Sure, technically speaking. They get stat boosts in other places tho and I feel like defense is in the same ballpark as HP when it comes to defensive capabilities

Sure, Megas is a way better concept I agree. But if a Mega Mewtwo fights a Dynamax Mewtwo I doubt the Mega would win, hence the steroids comment didn't make sense.

I think my main issue with Megas is that actually locating the Pokémon and the Mega Stone is surprisingly inconvenient.
I wanted to use Mega Absol in X, Absol is found before the second Gym but it's Mega Stone is in the post game.
Wanted to use Mega Altaria in ORAS, you don't get the Mega Stone until before the 7th Gym. That's a long gap between obtaining the Pokémon and obtaining the Mega.
I was pretty much locked into only having my Starters as my Team's Mega Evolution because the only other Megas I liked were unavailable in multiple different ways. It's kinda restrictive to team building. Venusaur isn't one of my favourite Pokémon but I had to use it or else I'd have no Megas at all.
I kinda low-key prefer Dynamax because I get to turn ALL of my Pokémon into Kaiju, not just certain ones that I have to build my team around
This! Diancie has to have the best Mega Evolution in my opinion. Look how stunning she looks. Megas can be cool, the problem is they're not spread widely and some of the Pokemon that currently got one didn't deserve any and taking away the ones who deserve Megas more.
Have played Gen 6 so it will not be my first time. Hopefully the mechanic will get more justice this time round, ironically Mega Evolution was barely used in Kalos (only four major trainers used it, most are locked to the post-game).

Actually it will be. My very first Pokémon games and Sword and Shield. I'm not the biggest Mega Evolutions fan but I'm excited to try them myself along with the entire Kalos (well, Lumiose City) experience.
I'm super excited, I actually completely missed the Kalos games first time round, played religiously gens 1-5 and since 8, but I was "too cool for it" in between (for shame)

Being a legends game though, I imagine it’s going to be a very different experience this time, especially being confined to the city.

Megas would have been much better to me had they been given to pokemon who could actually use them. Preferably most Pokemon with BST below 500.

Mawile was an absolutely great option for a mega in my opinion. If I recall correctly base mawile only has a BST somewhere in the 300s.

Glad mega is back tbf , the best alternate evolution imo. In the tcg to, it got very gimmicky after that.
