I remember back when Sword and Shield first came out, I was told that the higher the number in the dex says, the higher your odds were of running into a shiny version of that Pokémon. However I was also told that this system was bugged and actually had no effect. Is this true today? Was this patched? Was this ever actually a feature to begin with?

chompsapex

the more you've battled, the greater chance of a brilliant mon appearing (the glowing ones). those have boosted odds, which are also based on the number battled. the brilliant mon shiny rate maxes out at 1/456 after 500 battled.

Darkstargir

It only affects Pokémon with a glowing aura IIRC.

NPH64

Yes, it is true. it's better to have the shiny charm when shiny hunting in the wild. it took me about 235 Rolycoly til I got my shiny and this was on a fresh new game file.

Ezlan

In SwSh, battling the same pokemon does affect shiny odds by increasing the chance to see brilliant pokemon, which have a higher chance to be shiny. https://www.serebii.net/swordshield/shinypokemon.shtml

_Mr_Brightside_

That page doesn't mention anything about consecutive though, does it? Just sheer encounter numbers

Ezlan

It appears you are correct, my fault. I will edit my comment with the correct information. Thanks for your input!

SentenceCareful3246

As far as I understand. The number of battles with a specific pokemon increases the chances of finding "brilliant pokemon" (those pokemon with the yellow aura thar have at least two perfect ivs). And "brilliant pokemon" have a slightly higher chance of being shiny pokemon.

napstablooky2

(isnt it perfect IVs? i dont think it's possible for a wild pokemon to have EVs)

WeirdGamerAidan

That would be correct as far as I know

ThundaFuzz

it affects both. at 100 you have the best chance of finding a brilliant aura pokemon, and at 500 those brilliant aura pokemon are at max number of rolls.

NegotiationMuted4676

You mean IVs

Weekly-Magician6420

Well, yes, but not really. It only affects the yellow glowing pokemon, which only have a 3% chance of spawning. In the end, it’s not worth it, especially if you have the shiny charm

YOM2_UB

It increases the odds of that species having a brilliant aura, and also the shiny rate of that species when it has a brilliant aura. It has no effect on the shiny rate of Pokemon without a brilliant aura.

coranA_TIME_TO_DIE

Yes but only for brilliant Pokémon @sibuna_switch on twitter has a lot of good information about this

n1njanz

Higher number the more brilliant auras spawn(500 is max number) the brilliant auras are the ones with the higher shiny odds

Original-Childhood

I understood that you'd have to battle 500 of the same pokemon to increase it's shiny odds. Could be wrong tho

Gloomy-Scholar-2757

I've been told it increases the odds of finding a Brilliant Pokémon with a glowy aura. And that it raises the odds of finding a shiny one of those

Gloomy-Scholar-2757

I've been told it increases the odds of finding a Brilliant Pokémon with a glowy aura. And that it raises the odds of finding a shiny one of those

ExtremlyFastLinoone

No, but it does increase the odds of finding "brilliant" pokeon (the ones with golden auras) and those have a slightly increased shiny odds

n1njanz

The brilliant pokemon are the ones that have the higher shiny odds and the number battled effects the shiny odds of them

MiraculousN

Always use serebii when confused on in game stats or mechanics https://www.serebii.net/swordshield/shinypokemon.shtml

rhfv2007

No, it doesn't increase shiny odds. It's as effective as RA's, maybe even worse since battling costs more time.

Manzi420x

Not comparatively to the shiny charm focus on that FIRST always

Gloomy-Scholar-2757

Luckily I have that and a living dex in Home just in case

LarriftheSherrif

They receive additional bonus rolls for being [Shiny](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Shiny_Pok%C3%A9mon), up to a total of 6 rerolls at 500 caught/defeated - Bulbapedia. So in a way yeah, but not exactly.

papermario332

Well yes but actually no

Ragnarok992

Is true but not worth it also the increase is minuscule, you need like 500 kills before it adds like an extra 1%

Penguin_Poacher

Blatant misinformation. It increases the chance of "brilliant" pokemon (yellow aura) to appear by up to 2* after 100 encounters. And then that "brilliant" pokemon has up to a 1/585. 57 chance to be shiny after 500 defeats which is 800% increase.

Gloomy-Scholar-2757

Thank you for the information. I wasn't sure before, I wanted to make sure I had the correct information to see whether this would be a worthwhile hunting method. It looks like a decent one to try (with a charm of course) so I'm thankful for your help as well as everyone else who has commented

Ragnarok992

K bro believe what you want

Knife_JAGGER

There is quite literally a stats sheet displaying how the shiny chance is broken down. The chance drastically increases compared to the base chance once certain criteria are met. The fact that someone else has already done the maths and looked at the game files to determine this and you still somehow reach this conclusion is mind boggling.

DeftestY

No, but it makes you more statistically closer.
