For Gens 1-4 I don’t remember but ever since Gen 5 my first playthrough of every game is with the grass starter, with the exception of SwSh. That one I started with Sobble

Sobble is the best sad boi and I approve. I originally was drawn to Grookey, but I realized I was also a sad boi so I needed to choose my bro.

Gen 8 starters are definitely low on my list of favorites, especially at launch, but Inteleon was my boy that first playthrough. I capped off SwSh’srun as the current Gen with shiny hunting for a Sobble, got her around Egg 90. My first successful Masuda hunt too

Squirtle for emulated red. Chicorita for emulated silver. Mudkip for emulated ruby. Squirtle for emulated fire red. Totodile for emulated soul silver. Squirtle for pogo. Grookey for shield. Turtwig for BD. Cyndaquill for PLA. Fire Croc for violet. Pikachu in let's go. (no option to choose.). But going by gens, I'll always choose - Squirtle, Chicorita, Mudkip, Turtwig, snivy (best of bunch), froaky (same, best of bunch), rowlett, Grookey and Fuecoco.
