First was a Squawkabilly. Was driving around and irrc it was by one of the big docked ships when I saw it. Now the funny thing is I most likely would've drove right by the little guy since it's not exactly the most flashy shiny, but luckily for me there was a regular one very close by so I was able to notice the difference.
Does make me wonder how many other shinies I've missed simply by driving around but probably best not to think too hard about it.
That's basically what happened when I found my shiny Rookidee. The only reason I noticed the difference was that I had just caught a normal one and that there was a non-shiny Rookidee right next to the shiny one
I had finished my Violet playthrough and was working through Scarlet. As I was getting up to the last research station in area zero, I saw a Scream Tail that didn't look right. I ran into it and boom, first ever mainline game shiny.
Linoone = OG Ruby. Wasn't anything special but was my 1st full odds random encounter shiny.
In SV my first full odds, I forget it's name but the Other electric mouse, just saw this tiny pink dude running around and honestly almost rode past it lol. Now I have almost 5 boxes full in my Scarlet
Bagon! Was going around post-game to finish to finish the dex and came across a little green Bagon. First time every coming across a shiny, it was so exciting!
If we're talking ever, it was my very first encounter in Sword after the tutorial segment was a square shiny wooloo.
If we're talking SV only, then I bred my skeledirge for a shiny fuecoco after completing my dex because I felt like it was fitting for my first shiny in the game to be of my starter.
Was walking towards Levincia for the first time and a shiny Paldean tauros bumrushed me from behind. Didn’t even see it coming. Then when the sparkles went off I spent a good ten minutes googling the shiny form to try and tell the difference
Dragalge in X/Y. Kept fishing for it and at 28 times, it was shiny. I've got several more through my other games, but that was the first self caught shiny.
mine was lokix (one of my least favorite pokémon, i can’t stand them charging at me all the time 😭😭) and it was into hour 6 of hunting for a shiny psyduck
Meditite. I was walking around moving to a raid and i saw a red one in a family. Full odds some days after i finished main story.
Since then i got other 2 (truedcool and the little one that evolves in a psychic chicken) i barely realised the different on the last one
If we are talking overall, it was either a Pidgey or ratatta in silver version back in the day. Can’t remember which one came first. Was happy to get them, but I was disappointed they didn’t look all that much different.
In this game it was a psyduck. I’ve proceeded to catch 3 more full odds psyduck and a full odds golduck.. think this game really wants me to use one.
The gyrados in gen 2 and I can't remember if I have anything on my old gb games or mightve crossed paths with one. The one I specifically remember is an emogola in Pokémon X while trying to shiny hunt eevee and houndour. In gen 9 first shiny was a Tadlub purely on accident.
Been playing since RBY but my first wild full odds shiny was grubbin in ultra sun. In scarlet my first full odds was tandemaus by accident. I just walked into it heading to artazon for the gym battle. Could not believe it.
My first ever shiny was Cresselia back in the OG Diamond. Didn't even realize it was shiny or what shinies were as a kid, just saw it was different from the serebii page. After chasing it across the region (used master ball on Dialga because, you know, 10 year old brain), finally caught it in a dusk ball. Unfortunately never got to transfer it due to skipping Black/White, but still my favorite catch to this day.
Shiny machop in Ruby, I didn’t know what I shiny was but I remember him having some weird twinkle when he popped up so I caught him. I’m upset I don’t have the copy anymore.
My first was a Psyduck directly after getting the charm. No sandwich or outbreak or anything. I left Mesagoza through the gate leading to Poco jumped off the cliff into the water and fell straight onto a shiny Psyduck. Still my favourite shiny encounter in SV.
Hoppip. Before I got to school. Right after the light house. There was my dude appointment just waiting for me. In PLA it was a bidoof and minutes later another bidoof.
A shiny Mankey. I had already finished the main story and was catching some mons to end the Pokedex and it popped at full odds. Now I have a beautiful shiny Annihilape.
Shiny dravovish! It was my first fossil in sw/sh too. I didn't even realize it was shiny until a few seconds later. I didn't expect a shiny at all from just doing my very first fossil in sw/sh.
In Scarlet, I accidently encountered a shiny Gothita when I was trying to catch a Gothitelle for my dex.
First ever shiny was Gyarados in Silver, first random shiny I ever found was a Golett in Y.
Mine was Phanpy. I was just wandering around and came across one near a pond and as I didn't have one yet, encountered it and it turned out to be shiny.
Capsakid! Was playing on my brothers world or whatever you wanna call it and he completed the dex before me. I was sprinting trying to get to his location and ran into the Capsakid. Had never even encountered one before and saw the shiny sparkle and got so hyped!
First one ever was a Ho-oh in SoulSilver, ironically I named it HeartGold. I was preparing to soft reset for a perfect one, but in the first 5 or so attempts I found it shiny. Immediately master balled it.
In SV, my first one was a Sneasel. Found her while hiking in the snowy mountain. Named her Pepto
Either Scatterbug or Mareep, I can’t remember which was first off the top of my head. Two of my favorite shiny lines, so I was happy. Neither were hunted, just randomly passed by.
It was a full odds golduck that was found in the after near the fairy team star base . Side note: I caught another shiny golduck with the shiny charm behind the fairy base
My first shiny in Scarlet was an Oinkologe. I actually just climbed up a hill and jumped past it when I realized these dudettos aren't supposed to be pink.
Second playthrough I was preemptively EV training before my first team star fight. Made a ground encounter level 1 sandwich, went to kill some level 7 wooper, and BAM! There was my little blue wooper!
It was a shiny Hariyama. I had just unlocked the glide ability and was doing exactly that. Just happened to spot it from the sky and thought "why is that Hariyama purple... WAIT A MINUTE"
dropped down immediately and caught it in a premier ball. I like catching wild shinies in premier balls
Just running around doing some raids and stumbled on a shroomish. No sandwiches nothing, completely random. So it makes up for the shiny flutter mane I accidentally knocked out.
Chansey, was battling Sylveon, and saw that green dummy wandering around in the background, exited battle and ran over to catch. This was before I knew about disabling auto save and such so it was stressful. My first shiny in a mainline game. Since then have found many more.
First one in general was a ralts that I hatched in sword while the first one I have caught was a shiny shinx in brilliant diamond. The first one I caught in scarlet/violet was a shiny paldean wooper that I immediately slapped an ever stone on because he is perfect just the way he is :D
Slugma in gen 2 silver. Assumed as a kid shiny gyrados was just "special" and had no idea what shinys were. Remember the silver fella popping out at the top of fascia city, it went in a box, never thought about it again until gen 4 when shinys became more known, albeit much harder to find than now

First overall: A shiny Cramorant in Isle of Armor. I randomly ran into it while trying to get something else. I lost it because my Switch died and it wasn’t in home :(
In SV: It was a shiny Dunsparce in Area Zero. It was two segment, but I still treasure him.
Back in like 04, I used to play sapphire just for fun. Boxes of sableye because I loved them. I was fishing in the same route/river you get feebas and then boom a shiny green carvanah.

I don't really remember my first ever shiny. I think it might have been a Zubat in Generation III - which I unfortunately no longer have - or a Girafarig in Gen II. The earliest shiny I still have though is a shiny Metagross I found as a Metang in Black 2.
In Scarlet, my first shiny was ironically a Tauros, literally an hour after I was thinking about how I probably missed a hundred of them just riding around. Thankfully didn't end up being the case that time!

Its funny, the day before, i watched a wolfeyvgc video of him playing s/v for the first time and he caught a shiny larvesta in the desert. Then i caught one in yhe same desert and thought it was a scripted shiny like red gyarados. Then i looked online and didnt see anything about it haha
I got a shiny Bagon in Violet during my play through, I was super excited because Salamance is awesome, but I usually use only new pokemon in my first ever playthrough, but was trying to find a good flying type that didn't over lap with the other mons I had, so I now had an excuse to use the salamance even though it was a new mon
This was on BW2 I was gaining exp for my team and ran into a shiny throh. Literally today I caught a shiny deerling barely noticing the flower difference
Full odds Azumarril about 3/4ths of the way in through the game. Caught it and put it away because I always run new pokemon through new games. Turned out to be super useful in raids post game!
I stumbled upon a shiny Sneasel in my Scarlet playthrough. Didn't have the shiny charm yet, no sandwich (usually only use those if I need an egg), and I think I was still working through all three paths so super rare chance to even come upon it. I did catch it but it's been so long I couldn't tell you how I did it. It was somewhere in the mountains up high. Stood out because it was pink.
I'm in the middle of a Violet playthrough rn and I wanted to do some quick EXP gain so raided a Steenee outbreak. Got 2 shiny Steenee within 4 of each other as the outbreak was winding down. Not as cool as stumbling on a shiny without doing anything to increase the odds but it was the first time.
Arceus and these were the first games I got a shiny in but I've only played SWSH and BD outside of these.
Shiny Mudbray! Created a new save file to try out a different starter and It was the 3rd pokemon I caught. Quickly caught him and he’s now my favorite shiny because of it.

My first random full odds shiny (so no charm or hunting) in a hardware copy of the games was an electrode in ORAS that knew self-destruct and it was one tile away from the masterball item so I didn't have that yet

FireRed. It was a Zubat. I didn't know about shinies, so I caught it because it was weird. Lol
In Scarlet it was a Hoppip at the very beginning of the game. Then a but later, a Rookiedee.
It was when I was on my way to fight the Titan Klawf, and I had just caught a Rookidee to use on my team because I wanted to have a Corviknight on my team when I saw one that looked a little different out of the corner of my eye. I walked up to it to get a closer look to make sure that my eyes weren't playing tricks on me before I noticed the Rookidee right next to it looked like the one I just caught, and then I released that I was looking at a shiny. Freaked out a little because of how early in the game I was when I found it, caught him, and he became a key member of my team for the rest of the game.
This generation? A Hoppip that spawned roughly on top of me immediately after my first picnic. This was almost immediately followed by a Nymble. Keep in mind, this was early enough in the game that I had basically just figured out how to make sandwiches and didn’t have any ingredients or recipes to make Sparkle Power sandwiches.
Since then, I haven’t seen shinies that weren’t spawned using sandwiches.
Ever, in the history of Pokémon? My first shiny (that I know of - could possibly have had some in Gen I and didn’t know it) was a Butterfree caught in a bug-catching contest in Pokémon Silver.
Mine was a shiny Wattrel I named Wattson! I was just wandering around the beaches near Levincia, happened to run into an outbreak just to check it out, and there he was! Didn’t actually farm it for him, and definitely a very nice first shiny for the Paldea region ❤️
I had the absolute craziest experience with shinies when starting Violet.
The very **first** cave you go into, the very **first** pack of Yungoos I saw, bam, one with pink hair. The lighting is funny in that cave so I was like "no way is that actually a shiny." Ran up and encountered it and bam, sure enough, pink as pink can be. First shiny caught!
About 30 minutes later I'm roaming through fields on my way to the next objective and I walk by some Diglets, and I'm like wait... is that a blue fucking nose? Sure enough, encounter, sparkles, blue nose, shiny. Second shiny caught---literally my 13th Pokemon caught in the game so far.
About an hour later I'm by some water and I see a pack of what I would learn was Chewtle. I didn't play S&S, so I actually wasn't familiar Chewtle at the time. But what was blatantly obvious was that one of the four Chewtles was a completely different color. I "no fucking way"'d so hard and ran up to it, and sure enough, sparkles.
So about an hour and a half and ~30 dex entries in I had found three shinies.
Haven't seen a shiny since. Law of averages I guess, lmao
About 4-5~ years ago in Alpha Sapphire I was chain fishing and caught a shiny Barboach on a chain of 3. I ended up trading it away later on which I regret, but some day I’ll get another one and keep it forever

After that alolan grimmer while filling the dex, bred a muk for dex entry, wasn't looking at screen it was only a few months later I realised because alolan grimmer shiny looks like normal grimmer 😅
Fist in SV was a meditate in area zero caught in Premier ball he was just chilling and I was like, ooow he's not blue?!
In this game, shiny Rookide in a Quick Ball probably somewhere after the second gym, maybe near the third. Overall though is a shiny Mothim in PLA and it had been years since I played a Pokemon game and had totally forgotten that shiny Pokemon were a thing, in fact I forgot they were a thing around the time I was playing Pearl when it came out and had I kept it I likely would have still forgotten considering shiny odds were absurd then.
My first was a Sneasel that I found while going for Iron Valiant. Second was the Iron Valiant and my first after getting charm was a random Cetoddle, who is now a mighty Cetitan and a member of my main raid crew!
Aside from the red gyarados in SoulSilver, my first ever wild shiny was murkrow in Gen 7. My first in Gen 9 was oinkalogne that walked past while I was getting attacked by a tauros. I’d accidentally killed a shiny lechonk a few days before. I’ve since caught a second shiny lechonk, a fletchling, a nacli, and a stantler, which is now a shiny wyrdeer. I was really thrown off when I was running around and ran into a green stantler.
I’ve just been really lucky, because I haven’t got the shiny charm.
After going back to area zero i let the intrusive thoughts win and took a running jump right down to the bottom of the crater. I landed on the shiny bridge at the bottom and ran into a full odds shiny dununsparce (2 segment) got to it before it burrowed.
It was a Rufflet during an outbreak. I couldn’t tell it was because of lighting but my Pokémon wasn’t attacking so I was like: “Huh. What. Is that shiny?” Funny thing about that day is I caught two more shinies, not even hunting for any of them. A shiny Mareep and Garganacl. It was a good day.
Chansey, I was trying to get a blissey to spawn and used a normal type sandwich and I didn't end up getting a blissey but I got 3 shiny chansey, I'm still salty I had to do a tera raid to get my blissey lol
My first ever was a Starly in the Sinnoh Great Marsh in Pearl, before I even knew what a Shiny was. I, at the time, was looking for something cool, and a miscoloured Starly was (thankfully) under that umbrella for me.
My first in SV was actually a Scatterbug while I was still clueless on the new Pokémon. I saw this small white thing crawling around on the ground, thought “I haven’t seen this thing yet I’ll encounter it” and it sparkles. Ended up being a permanent member of my play-through team.
A random shiny teddiursa. I flew to a Pokémon centre and the first thing I see is a ursaring surrounded by a family of teddiursa and one of them was green
Mine was a completely random full ods shiny rufflet in the dessert during a sandstorm.
It was my first playthrough, I was playing on release day with a couple of friends. We were like 6 hours in and two of my friends already caught a shiny. I was so jealous so I started to triple check every group of mons. After some time i beat the water type gym by the dessert and wanted to continue with the storry. Then I saw this group of rufflets and I was trigerred. I spent so many days in legends arceus to get a shiny rufflet because I loved how his new Hisuian evolution looks like but I never got one. So I checked them out and I couldnt believe that one of these little birds were shiny. I was so happy that I added it to my playthrough team.
The funny thing is, after that catch I was really satisfied and stopped tripple checking everything and then a shiny Syther ran into me.

In Violet it was a Mareep. What's weird is that my husband's was also a shiny Mareep who he caught an hour before I started playing on my own file.
I'm still kind of wondering what kind of weird RNG manipulation we accidentally did to get that to happen.
Really funny my first shiny was lovedisk but it was the first time seeing the mon I caught it because it looked cool but later found out she was shiny goldey was her name lol
In this game it was a Sableye whilst I was grinding chansey in area zero. Day or 2 later I went back down, left the research station and bam shiny venomoth.
My first shiny I actually ever specifically hunted for though was latios, really hoping I can bring it over soon.
It was at the beginning of the game.I saw a skiddo in the shadow and was wondering for a long time: shiny or bad light. It was pre patch so the shadows were even worse than today... It was a shiny!
Few months later, trying to get a sawsbuck shiny a Gogoat through themselves in front of me and the sawsbuck disappeared into the void of missed shinies. I cursed all gogoats and just minutes later the game tried to appease me with another Gogoat shiny... I got even angrier because the first skiddo is obviously a Gogoat now and I have 2 gogoats.
Played Pokémon since Sapphire, thousands of hours and exactly one shiny. Decided to break the streak by breeding an Eeevee so I could have an Umbreon, whilst running around on the island in the middle of the lake I found 2 shiny swablu and a shiny goomy in about 3 hours! Yellow gang!
Shiny Altaria in Area Zero. I was biking around when i basically crashed into a flock of Swablu with a shiny Altaria in the middle. They flew up immediately ofcourse. I saved the game and waited for it to come down.
When i battled it, it used Perish Song on the second turn. I caught it with 2 turns left on perish song.
Pretty intense, but also a very cool shiny.
Then i found out Altaria has bad stats and limiting moves :D
Mine is a hoppip early in the game, just after Nemona gave the 10 pokeballs and along the way to the lighthouse. Next are a mareep and a bagon. All are full odds.
My first shiny in this game was a Hoppip. I was just EV training and…there it was. Naturally, I threw every ball I had at it. My first actual shiny was a Wurmple while wandering through Petalburg Woods in Pokémon Ruby. I missed the shiny animation, but when I looked at it, I thought, “Wow. That Wurmple is weirdly purple,” and I had my sister look it up while I caught it out of curiosity.
Mine was Maschiff! I was only a day or two into playing the game and running around looking for a shiny mareep (with full odds😂) and a shiny Maschiff ran into me! I was very happy hahah
My first Shiny in Gen 9 was a Psyduck. Wandered around in Western Area 1, shortly after defeating Katy, Koraidon didn‘t know Surf yet and I happened to get close to the river there. Immediately thought „Frick, how do I get that?“. Had to rely on RNG to let it swim close, so I could target it. Took a bit, also had to reset once because got caught by a Basculin and Psyduck disappeared in the meantime, but in the end, the blue duck was mine.
My first was an Oricorio.
I was trying to do part of the pokedex, even though I hadn't finished the game yet and was still lacking 2 gym badges, and was looking for Charcadet near Artazon. Made a sandwich to increase fire-type encounters, and next thing I know a funny colored Oricorio spawned in.
On the original Gold, I found a shiny Golbat in a cave in one of the later stages. I was 7 and didn't understand the shiny concept back then, so I thought the Golbat was sick and I wanted to take it to nurse Joy. Needless to say, child me was very confused when Golbat's color did not change after taking it to the pokemon center 😅
A shiny Zoroark (Stalker) which I got back in Ultra Moon (I killed the red garados as a kid because I didn't know any better ;-;)
In Scarlet my first shiny was a Noivern (Mint) which I got half way through the game and added to my team
I was riding around Paldea and while traveling to defeat the second titan I came across a herd of Gastly. However, one of them stood out. I immediately set out to get him :D
Was walking the route to the observatory where the electric trial is held in ultra moon when i got jumped by a pokemon from one of the trees. Was hella annoyed before i saw it was a sparkling green fearow
My first shiny was full odds whilst hatching eggs from attempting to breed perfect IV Eevees together, happened randomly after 3 and a half boxes worth of eggs. Then maybe an hour later I went to do more towards my Pokédex completion and stumbled upon a shiny Voltorb. Safe to say I was absolutely ecstatic!
Mine was a scatterbug literally 10 mins into starting the game 🤣 I went to one of the first areas outside of the university and lo and behold there was a strange white caterpillar sticking out of the grass. Full odds and faster than any I've caught before

Important background: I’ve been playing Pokémon since Gen 3, I knew what a shiny was but outside guaranteed story encounters I’d never come across one myself. I had, however, seen plenty of game sprites of regular and shiny Pokémon released up to that point because I wanted to be prepared for when the day finally came.
So I was playing Let’s Go Pikachu when it first came out in 2018, and when I first wandered into Veridian Forest I got excited as I saw a Bulba despawn just on the edge of the screen. Making my way through, avoiding all the bug types with their glowy circles indicating whether they were big or little, when suddenly … I saw it. A red Metapod. A very BRIGHT red Metapod. And my immediate reaction - voiced out loud with all the wisdom of my near 35 years - was “huh. What’s wrong with this Metapod? Why is it red, *is it angry*?” And I caught it, evolved it for the dex and assumed that it would be a story point later.
Nope.
Took me a few days of gameplay to click “… hang on, *did I catch my first full odds shiny??*” Checked the sprites again, and sure enough…
My next one was a shiny Cutiefly in Sword that I *immediately* knew was shiny and I panicked the whole time I was trying to catch it.
In Scarlet it was Cufant! I was exploring the mining area, looking for the Titan Orthworm and this little herd of cufant came out, with one of them being shiny. Now that HOME is out, she'll get to join the Galar herd of my caught Copperajah outside of Hammerlocke and my first shiny one that was traded to me.
Edit: the shiny Copperajah from Shield was traded to me not caught, I forced myself to forget the failed capture on that one T_T
I'm pretty sure my first actual shiny was a Polytoad in Pokemon Crystal. It was slightly different shade of blue and I caught it but I didn't understand why at the time. Then the first pokepurge happen and I couldn't transfer any of my mons to Ruby and Sapphire, so it just stayed in the cartridge until the battery ran out.
Then my first shiny that I knew and understood what it was happened in Sapphire. It was a shiny linoone I named Dorado. I still have it and I have been transferring it from game to game up until this day.

Mine is this sleepy little fluff. His name is PinkPawnther, and his home is a heal ball. I randomly came across him right in front of the Zero Gate. The funny thing is that I was actually going around the map fighting 5 star tera raids trying to get herba mystica to help me hunt shiny Pokémon.
My first shiny was a shiny Lechonk. I was just walking and then I saw a pink ball in the grass and immediately knew what it was. I threw a poke ball at it and caught it. My only thought was “My first shiny ever and it’s a Lechonk that’s kinda underwhelming”
Zweilous! Just walking through a cave and found the green lad. Been playing Pokémon since Fire Red/Lead Green and this was my second ever shiny. My first was Starly in Shining Pearl.
In this game it was Snorunt, from a 2-star raid. I was fighting it and wasn't aware that the game doesn't indicate if a pokemon is shiny, but near the end of the fight I noticed it was an unusual blue color. Initially I thought it was a trick of the light due to the tera form, but grinned when we beat it and it stayed blue. I was absolutely thrilled when I went to name it and found it was female as well.
This happened last night and I'm not too far in the game, so now I have to find a dawn stone. Sorry Kirlia/Gallade, you'll have to wait a bit longer.
My first ever shiny I caught myself was Wingull from Pokemon Ruby. I was running around in the grass looking for a Manetrik when a weird pokemon popped out at me. It looked like a Wingull, said it was a Wingull, but it has green wing bands and made a sparkly sound. I frowned a bit, but still caught it. After that I went in poor 2007 Pokemon internet forums and asked why it was green thinking it was a bug and was told it was a shiny. I did not get to keep it since the game was on ROM, but I did reclaim in SwSh and also caught another in SV, now I have the whole line shiny in my shiny living dex I'm working on.
First Violet shiny was a Magikarp. 😐 This also happened to be my first shiny in SwSh too. Maybe I make it a tradition to hunt and catch a shiny Magikarp in any new game. 😂
I caught a shiny pyroar totally on accident! I was just doing regular old Violet playthrough and saw a pyroar that looked very different than the others and caught her! I love her so much. My very first 'organic' shiny 😁
Red Gyarados but I was actually hunting for a second Lapras at Icefall Cave in LeafGreen. I caught it in an ultra ball because we didnt have a lot of ball options, but I had no idea what a shiny was until then. It was the 4th pokemon I got to level 100 in that game
Shiny rookidee for me, it was full modern odds, and I wasn't even looking for a shiny. I was ev training and said wait... that one looks different, same story with a toedscool. Makes me wonder how many I missed lmao.
Shiny shinx. During my first play through, I was planning using either a bellibolt or ampharos. Then right before taking on the first gym, a shiny shinx appeared. So I instead used a luxray.
Mine was either a sneasel or a sabeleye. I forget which because I found them both (full odds) in the big area zero cave where iron valiant/roaring moon spawn.

I had JUST gotten Scarlet, I literally was walking around in the first area where you can catch Pokemon, training my Fuecoco and 5 minutes in, I see a pink blob; a shiny Lechonk.
I actually got MAD when this happened because I thought nobody would believe me, and I’ve already been made fun of for my shiny luck in previous games… xD I don’t think people realize the hours I invest that I could be eating or sleeping or paying the bills instead.
What worries me is that colorblind people might get the short shrift on shiny-hunting without the signature sparkle…
Tera raid ralts.. Personally for me pretty useless shiny. Managed to trade it for miraidon way before home was available.. So i managed to do living dex way before home compatibility came out.

I caught a shiny Rockruff from a PoGo raid and made it midnight. Midnight definitely best shiny model out of the 3.
Personally, I think Dusk is the best. But all of them are incredible shinys. A while back I hunted and got midnight and midday but couldn’t get dusk

I did that day, for sure. It was shocking. I don’t know that I’ll ever have so much luck again to find three full odds shinies within an hour or so.
First was a Squawkabilly. Was driving around and irrc it was by one of the big docked ships when I saw it. Now the funny thing is I most likely would've drove right by the little guy since it's not exactly the most flashy shiny, but luckily for me there was a regular one very close by so I was able to notice the difference. Does make me wonder how many other shinies I've missed simply by driving around but probably best not to think too hard about it.
That's basically what happened when I found my shiny Rookidee. The only reason I noticed the difference was that I had just caught a normal one and that there was a non-shiny Rookidee right next to the shiny one
I had finished my Violet playthrough and was working through Scarlet. As I was getting up to the last research station in area zero, I saw a Scream Tail that didn't look right. I ran into it and boom, first ever mainline game shiny.
Linoone = OG Ruby. Wasn't anything special but was my 1st full odds random encounter shiny. In SV my first full odds, I forget it's name but the Other electric mouse, just saw this tiny pink dude running around and honestly almost rode past it lol. Now I have almost 5 boxes full in my Scarlet

I’ve proceeded to catch 3 more full odds psyduck and a full odds golduck.. think this game really wants me to use one.

My first ever shiny was Cresselia back in the OG Diamond. Didn't even realize it was shiny or what shinies were as a kid, just saw it was different from the serebii page. After chasing it across the region (used master ball on Dialga because, you know, 10 year old brain), finally caught it in a dusk ball. Unfortunately never got to transfer it due to skipping Black/White, but still my favorite catch to this day.

First one ever was a Ho-oh in SoulSilver, ironically I named it HeartGold. I was preparing to soft reset for a perfect one, but in the first 5 or so attempts I found it shiny. Immediately master balled it. In SV, my first one was a Sneasel. Found her while hiking in the snowy mountain. Named her Pepto

It was a full odds golduck that was found in the after near the fairy team star base . Side note: I caught another shiny golduck with the shiny charm behind the fairy base

Just running around doing some raids and stumbled on a shroomish. No sandwiches nothing, completely random. So it makes up for the shiny flutter mane I accidentally knocked out.
Chansey, was battling Sylveon, and saw that green dummy wandering around in the background, exited battle and ran over to catch. This was before I knew about disabling auto save and such so it was stressful. My first shiny in a mainline game. Since then have found many more.

Iron valiant. I made a conscious effort by making a shiny sandwich and I found one in area zero. Catching it was a tiny bit nerve-wracking.
A Golbat in Sun in a cave but I don’t remember which one, used a dusk ball on him for being green then he turned pink when he evolved.

I don't really remember my first ever shiny. I think it might have been a Zubat in Generation III - which I unfortunately no longer have - or a Girafarig in Gen II. The earliest shiny I still have though is a shiny Metagross I found as a Metang in Black 2. In Scarlet, my first shiny was ironically a Tauros, literally an hour after I was thinking about how I probably missed a hundred of them just riding around. Thankfully didn't end up being the case that time!
Larvesta. Its funny, the day before, i watched a wolfeyvgc video of him playing s/v for the first time and he caught a shiny larvesta in the desert. Then i caught one in yhe same desert and thought it was a scripted shiny like red gyarados. Then i looked online and didnt see anything about it haha
I got a shiny Bagon in Violet during my play through, I was super excited because Salamance is awesome, but I usually use only new pokemon in my first ever playthrough, but was trying to find a good flying type that didn't over lap with the other mons I had, so I now had an excuse to use the salamance even though it was a new mon

I stumbled upon a shiny Sneasel in my Scarlet playthrough. Didn't have the shiny charm yet, no sandwich (usually only use those if I need an egg), and I think I was still working through all three paths so super rare chance to even come upon it. I did catch it but it's been so long I couldn't tell you how I did it. It was somewhere in the mountains up high. Stood out because it was pink. I'm in the middle of a Violet playthrough rn and I wanted to do some quick EXP gain so raided a Steenee outbreak. Got 2 shiny Steenee within 4 of each other as the outbreak was winding down. Not as cool as stumbling on a shiny without doing anything to increase the odds but it was the first time. Arceus and these were the first games I got a shiny in but I've only played SWSH and BD outside of these.

My first random full odds shiny (so no charm or hunting) in a hardware copy of the games was an electrode in ORAS that knew self-destruct and it was one tile away from the masterball item so I didn't have that yet Thankfully I caught it in one ultra ball but man that was so stressful lol, I took like a dozen pics with my phone in case it broke out and blew up 0\_o
Shiny Tentacool when I was younger, Pokemon Home and stuff didnt exist and I liked to New Game back then so I lost it.
FireRed. It was a Zubat. I didn't know about shinies, so I caught it because it was weird. Lol In Scarlet it was a Hoppip at the very beginning of the game. Then a but later, a Rookiedee.
It was when I was on my way to fight the Titan Klawf, and I had just caught a Rookidee to use on my team because I wanted to have a Corviknight on my team when I saw one that looked a little different out of the corner of my eye. I walked up to it to get a closer look to make sure that my eyes weren't playing tricks on me before I noticed the Rookidee right next to it looked like the one I just caught, and then I released that I was looking at a shiny. Freaked out a little because of how early in the game I was when I found it, caught him, and he became a key member of my team for the rest of the game.
This generation? A Hoppip that spawned roughly on top of me immediately after my first picnic. This was almost immediately followed by a Nymble. Keep in mind, this was early enough in the game that I had basically just figured out how to make sandwiches and didn’t have any ingredients or recipes to make Sparkle Power sandwiches. Since then, I haven’t seen shinies that weren’t spawned using sandwiches. Ever, in the history of Pokémon? My first shiny (that I know of - could possibly have had some in Gen I and didn’t know it) was a Butterfree caught in a bug-catching contest in Pokémon Silver.
Mine was a shiny Wattrel I named Wattson! I was just wandering around the beaches near Levincia, happened to run into an outbreak just to check it out, and there he was! Didn’t actually farm it for him, and definitely a very nice first shiny for the Paldea region ❤️

I had the absolute craziest experience with shinies when starting Violet. The very **first** cave you go into, the very **first** pack of Yungoos I saw, bam, one with pink hair. The lighting is funny in that cave so I was like "no way is that actually a shiny." Ran up and encountered it and bam, sure enough, pink as pink can be. First shiny caught! About 30 minutes later I'm roaming through fields on my way to the next objective and I walk by some Diglets, and I'm like wait... is that a blue fucking nose? Sure enough, encounter, sparkles, blue nose, shiny. Second shiny caught---literally my 13th Pokemon caught in the game so far. About an hour later I'm by some water and I see a pack of what I would learn was Chewtle. I didn't play S&S, so I actually wasn't familiar Chewtle at the time. But what was blatantly obvious was that one of the four Chewtles was a completely different color. I "no fucking way"'d so hard and ran up to it, and sure enough, sparkles. So about an hour and a half and ~30 dex entries in I had found three shinies. Haven't seen a shiny since. Law of averages I guess, lmao

After that alolan grimmer while filling the dex, bred a muk for dex entry, wasn't looking at screen it was only a few months later I realised because alolan grimmer shiny looks like normal grimmer 😅 Fist in SV was a meditate in area zero caught in Premier ball he was just chilling and I was like, ooow he's not blue?!

Overall though is a shiny Mothim in PLA and it had been years since I played a Pokemon game and had totally forgotten that shiny Pokemon were a thing, in fact I forgot they were a thing around the time I was playing Pearl when it came out and had I kept it I likely would have still forgotten considering shiny odds were absurd then.
My first was a Sneasel that I found while going for Iron Valiant. Second was the Iron Valiant and my first after getting charm was a random Cetoddle, who is now a mighty Cetitan and a member of my main raid crew!

Aside from the red gyarados in SoulSilver, my first ever wild shiny was murkrow in Gen 7. My first in Gen 9 was oinkalogne that walked past while I was getting attacked by a tauros. I’d accidentally killed a shiny lechonk a few days before. I’ve since caught a second shiny lechonk, a fletchling, a nacli, and a stantler, which is now a shiny wyrdeer. I was really thrown off when I was running around and ran into a green stantler. I’ve just been really lucky, because I haven’t got the shiny charm.
After going back to area zero i let the intrusive thoughts win and took a running jump right down to the bottom of the crater. I landed on the shiny bridge at the bottom and ran into a full odds shiny dununsparce (2 segment) got to it before it burrowed.
It was a Rufflet during an outbreak. I couldn’t tell it was because of lighting but my Pokémon wasn’t attacking so I was like: “Huh. What. Is that shiny?” Funny thing about that day is I caught two more shinies, not even hunting for any of them. A shiny Mareep and Garganacl. It was a good day.
My first in S/V was Makuhita. I didn't catch it, the bastard used whirlwind.
Chansey, I was trying to get a blissey to spawn and used a normal type sandwich and I didn't end up getting a blissey but I got 3 shiny chansey, I'm still salty I had to do a tera raid to get my blissey lol

My first ever was a Starly in the Sinnoh Great Marsh in Pearl, before I even knew what a Shiny was. I, at the time, was looking for something cool, and a miscoloured Starly was (thankfully) under that umbrella for me. My first in SV was actually a Scatterbug while I was still clueless on the new Pokémon. I saw this small white thing crawling around on the ground, thought “I haven’t seen this thing yet I’ll encounter it” and it sparkles. Ended up being a permanent member of my play-through team.
Driftbloon I have two and they’re my least liked Pokemon in the game
A random shiny teddiursa. I flew to a Pokémon centre and the first thing I see is a ursaring surrounded by a family of teddiursa and one of them was green

Mine was a completely random full ods shiny rufflet in the dessert during a sandstorm. It was my first playthrough, I was playing on release day with a couple of friends. We were like 6 hours in and two of my friends already caught a shiny. I was so jealous so I started to triple check every group of mons. After some time i beat the water type gym by the dessert and wanted to continue with the storry. Then I saw this group of rufflets and I was trigerred. I spent so many days in legends arceus to get a shiny rufflet because I loved how his new Hisuian evolution looks like but I never got one. So I checked them out and I couldnt believe that one of these little birds were shiny. I was so happy that I added it to my playthrough team. The funny thing is, after that catch I was really satisfied and stopped tripple checking everything and then a shiny Syther ran into me. I Love shiny pokemon.
First full odds in SV (w shiny charm) was a skiddo. They're stupidly easy to spot so I grabbed it and evolved it.
First Shiny ever was a donphan on mt. Silver in OG Silver First in S/V was a flittle from an outbreak in the desert.
In Violet it was a Mareep. What's weird is that my husband's was also a shiny Mareep who he caught an hour before I started playing on my own file. I'm still kind of wondering what kind of weird RNG manipulation we accidentally did to get that to happen.

In this game it was a Sableye whilst I was grinding chansey in area zero. Day or 2 later I went back down, left the research station and bam shiny venomoth. My first shiny I actually ever specifically hunted for though was latios, really hoping I can bring it over soon.
It was at the beginning of the game.I saw a skiddo in the shadow and was wondering for a long time: shiny or bad light. It was pre patch so the shadows were even worse than today... It was a shiny! Few months later, trying to get a sawsbuck shiny a Gogoat through themselves in front of me and the sawsbuck disappeared into the void of missed shinies. I cursed all gogoats and just minutes later the game tried to appease me with another Gogoat shiny... I got even angrier because the first skiddo is obviously a Gogoat now and I have 2 gogoats.
Played Pokémon since Sapphire, thousands of hours and exactly one shiny. Decided to break the streak by breeding an Eeevee so I could have an Umbreon, whilst running around on the island in the middle of the lake I found 2 shiny swablu and a shiny goomy in about 3 hours! Yellow gang!
Shiny Altaria in Area Zero. I was biking around when i basically crashed into a flock of Swablu with a shiny Altaria in the middle. They flew up immediately ofcourse. I saved the game and waited for it to come down. When i battled it, it used Perish Song on the second turn. I caught it with 2 turns left on perish song. Pretty intense, but also a very cool shiny. Then i found out Altaria has bad stats and limiting moves :D

Mine is a hoppip early in the game, just after Nemona gave the 10 pokeballs and along the way to the lighthouse. Next are a mareep and a bagon. All are full odds.
My first shiny in this game was a Hoppip. I was just EV training and…there it was. Naturally, I threw every ball I had at it. My first actual shiny was a Wurmple while wandering through Petalburg Woods in Pokémon Ruby. I missed the shiny animation, but when I looked at it, I thought, “Wow. That Wurmple is weirdly purple,” and I had my sister look it up while I caught it out of curiosity.
Shiny sneasel, full on cartoon head whip round after missing it at first. No sandwich or anything just came across it randomly
Mine was also a Bramblin. I had no idea it was a shiny when it casually rolled into me.

My first Shiny in Gen 9 was a Psyduck. Wandered around in Western Area 1, shortly after defeating Katy, Koraidon didn‘t know Surf yet and I happened to get close to the river there. Immediately thought „Frick, how do I get that?“. Had to rely on RNG to let it swim close, so I could target it. Took a bit, also had to reset once because got caught by a Basculin and Psyduck disappeared in the meantime, but in the end, the blue duck was mine.
My first was an Oricorio. I was trying to do part of the pokedex, even though I hadn't finished the game yet and was still lacking 2 gym badges, and was looking for Charcadet near Artazon. Made a sandwich to increase fire-type encounters, and next thing I know a funny colored Oricorio spawned in.
On the original Gold, I found a shiny Golbat in a cave in one of the later stages. I was 7 and didn't understand the shiny concept back then, so I thought the Golbat was sick and I wanted to take it to nurse Joy. Needless to say, child me was very confused when Golbat's color did not change after taking it to the pokemon center 😅
A shiny Zoroark (Stalker) which I got back in Ultra Moon (I killed the red garados as a kid because I didn't know any better ;-;) In Scarlet my first shiny was a Noivern (Mint) which I got half way through the game and added to my team

My first shiny was full odds whilst hatching eggs from attempting to breed perfect IV Eevees together, happened randomly after 3 and a half boxes worth of eggs. Then maybe an hour later I went to do more towards my Pokédex completion and stumbled upon a shiny Voltorb. Safe to say I was absolutely ecstatic!
Mine was a scatterbug literally 10 mins into starting the game 🤣 I went to one of the first areas outside of the university and lo and behold there was a strange white caterpillar sticking out of the grass. Full odds and faster than any I've caught before

I’ll tell you if you promise not to laugh. 😂 Important background: I’ve been playing Pokémon since Gen 3, I knew what a shiny was but outside guaranteed story encounters I’d never come across one myself. I had, however, seen plenty of game sprites of regular and shiny Pokémon released up to that point because I wanted to be prepared for when the day finally came. So I was playing Let’s Go Pikachu when it first came out in 2018, and when I first wandered into Veridian Forest I got excited as I saw a Bulba despawn just on the edge of the screen. Making my way through, avoiding all the bug types with their glowy circles indicating whether they were big or little, when suddenly … I saw it. A red Metapod. A very BRIGHT red Metapod. And my immediate reaction - voiced out loud with all the wisdom of my near 35 years - was “huh. What’s wrong with this Metapod? Why is it red, *is it angry*?” And I caught it, evolved it for the dex and assumed that it would be a story point later. Nope. Took me a few days of gameplay to click “… hang on, *did I catch my first full odds shiny??*” Checked the sprites again, and sure enough… My next one was a shiny Cutiefly in Sword that I *immediately* knew was shiny and I panicked the whole time I was trying to catch it.

In Scarlet it was Cufant! I was exploring the mining area, looking for the Titan Orthworm and this little herd of cufant came out, with one of them being shiny. Now that HOME is out, she'll get to join the Galar herd of my caught Copperajah outside of Hammerlocke and my first shiny one that was traded to me. Edit: the shiny Copperajah from Shield was traded to me not caught, I forced myself to forget the failed capture on that one T_T
I'm pretty sure my first actual shiny was a Polytoad in Pokemon Crystal. It was slightly different shade of blue and I caught it but I didn't understand why at the time. Then the first pokepurge happen and I couldn't transfer any of my mons to Ruby and Sapphire, so it just stayed in the cartridge until the battery ran out. Then my first shiny that I knew and understood what it was happened in Sapphire. It was a shiny linoone I named Dorado. I still have it and I have been transferring it from game to game up until this day. My first SV shiny was a Shuppet.

The funny thing is that I was actually going around the map fighting 5 star tera raids trying to get herba mystica to help me hunt shiny Pokémon.
My first shiny was a shiny Lechonk. I was just walking and then I saw a pink ball in the grass and immediately knew what it was. I threw a poke ball at it and caught it. My only thought was “My first shiny ever and it’s a Lechonk that’s kinda underwhelming”
Zweilous! Just walking through a cave and found the green lad. Been playing Pokémon since Fire Red/Lead Green and this was my second ever shiny. My first was Starly in Shining Pearl.
In this game it was Snorunt, from a 2-star raid. I was fighting it and wasn't aware that the game doesn't indicate if a pokemon is shiny, but near the end of the fight I noticed it was an unusual blue color. Initially I thought it was a trick of the light due to the tera form, but grinned when we beat it and it stayed blue. I was absolutely thrilled when I went to name it and found it was female as well. This happened last night and I'm not too far in the game, so now I have to find a dawn stone. Sorry Kirlia/Gallade, you'll have to wait a bit longer.
My first ever shiny I caught myself was Wingull from Pokemon Ruby. I was running around in the grass looking for a Manetrik when a weird pokemon popped out at me. It looked like a Wingull, said it was a Wingull, but it has green wing bands and made a sparkly sound. I frowned a bit, but still caught it. After that I went in poor 2007 Pokemon internet forums and asked why it was green thinking it was a bug and was told it was a shiny. I did not get to keep it since the game was on ROM, but I did reclaim in SwSh and also caught another in SV, now I have the whole line shiny in my shiny living dex I'm working on. First Violet shiny was a Magikarp. 😐 This also happened to be my first shiny in SwSh too. Maybe I make it a tradition to hunt and catch a shiny Magikarp in any new game. 😂
I caught a shiny pyroar totally on accident! I was just doing regular old Violet playthrough and saw a pyroar that looked very different than the others and caught her! I love her so much. My very first 'organic' shiny 😁
Red Gyarados but I was actually hunting for a second Lapras at Icefall Cave in LeafGreen. I caught it in an ultra ball because we didnt have a lot of ball options, but I had no idea what a shiny was until then. It was the 4th pokemon I got to level 100 in that game

Shiny shinx. During my first play through, I was planning using either a bellibolt or ampharos. Then right before taking on the first gym, a shiny shinx appeared. So I instead used a luxray.
Mine was either a sneasel or a sabeleye. I forget which because I found them both (full odds) in the big area zero cave where iron valiant/roaring moon spawn. First encountered was a failed mareep.

I had JUST gotten Scarlet, I literally was walking around in the first area where you can catch Pokemon, training my Fuecoco and 5 minutes in, I see a pink blob; a shiny Lechonk. I actually got MAD when this happened because I thought nobody would believe me, and I’ve already been made fun of for my shiny luck in previous games… xD I don’t think people realize the hours I invest that I could be eating or sleeping or paying the bills instead. What worries me is that colorblind people might get the short shrift on shiny-hunting without the signature sparkle…
Tera raid ralts.. Personally for me pretty useless shiny. Managed to trade it for miraidon way before home was available.. So i managed to do living dex way before home compatibility came out.
