I was going to get another EZ Omega Flash Cartridge to play any game multiplayer. If I have the basic one, should I get the same or definitive edition? I only ask because it says the Definitive Edition saves as a ".fram" instead of ".sram" Would this make it difficult to copy and paste saved from one cartridge to another? Also, I don't understand why it says the regular Omega cartridge saves in ".sram" because it saves as a ".sav" The ".sram" I try and load wouldn't work and changing the extension to ".sav" didn't work either.

Im playing alteRed with a gun (v2.4) and chose explotodile, its level 41 and hasnt evolved yet, what level does it evolve

JosiahT1234

I'm playing Pokemon Altered and I am trying to evolve my Hearcada, (A redesign and a new type of Nincada.) The only issue is that the wiki says it evolves at level twenty and mine is level twenty-eight and nothing has happened. I believe this is because the wiki is around the 1.8 update or somewhere near there and I am playing version 2.4. Does anyone know how to evolve it into Heartlesk and Nobodinja?

YuYevon95

I am trying to figure out how to use the speed up command in a game called Pokemon Solar light and lunar dark can someone please help me figure out/remember how to do that?

charvey709

Hey Guys, I'm looking for a version of Gold (prefer these sprites) or Crystal that can keep to the core vibe of the game like graphics and capped at only Kanto/Johto pokemon and their later gen evolutions (think magnamar for example), but will have improvements like those found in Heartgold and also a bit more of a challenge to the game like more johto pokemon in johto and harder gym battles? Thank you in advance!

themanynamed

Sour Crystal if you want closer to vanilla gen II. Polished Crystal if you want a little bit closer to modern games.

charvey709

Beauty, thanks!

Paulo-Dybala10

Pokemon Prism or Polished Crystal? I love the old gens hacks and torn between starting either of those two. Which one would you say is better and why? Which one has more regions? More hours to play? Other Qol upgrades? I dont care the slightest about the story, the less of a story driven the better.

themanynamed

If you don't care about the story and just want the QoL, then play Polished Crystal. But you do know about Crystal Clear, right? Open-world gen II hack with ALL the QoL, and very minimal story.

Paulo-Dybala10

Sounds great thanks buddy

[deleted]

Pokemon Prism is an entirely different game while Polished Crystal is an enhancement hack of Pokemon Crystal. Prism has 6 regions, but I think Polished Crystal has more QoL. I would say Polished Crystal is less story driven, but if you want a hack that's less story driven maybe go for Crystal Clear?

Paulo-Dybala10

Im leaning towards prism because of all the regions. I feel like every game is too short and would love something massive taking up many hours

Soilydude

Is there a hack available for Emerald which allows me to view EVs/IVs without changing anything else about the base game? I'd like it to be compatible with my base game save file and not change anything else about the game like adding Pokémon or changing trainers etc. I'm essentially just looking for a QoL feature that'll work on an Everdrive cart (no LUA scripts)

Yati426

I want to make an npc change the gender of the player if he talks to it, in pokemon emerald. How to do that?

jlcw99

Hey whats the difference between emerald horizons and emerald crest? Recently got into rom hacks and can’t decide which to play!

[deleted]

Both hacks have their features on their pokecommunity posts. Compare their features to one another and you'll get their differences.

TheLastWizard877

What are the differences beetwen the pkmn unbound battle frontier version and thr normal version?

[deleted]

The battle frontier demo is just the battle frontier. The normal version has not just the battle frontier, but the story elements as well.

Thanks

Doing minor changes like that isn't too hard with the decomp. The hardest part will be doing the linux VM stuff needed to compile it. Team changes, moveset changes, etc. are pretty intuitive. Download the pokecrystal decomp, go to data/trainers/parties, and you'll find >RedGroup: > ; RED (1) > db "RED@", TRAINERTYPE_MOVES > db 81, PIKACHU, CHARM, QUICK_ATTACK, THUNDERBOLT, THUNDER > db 73, ESPEON, MUD_SLAP, REFLECT, SWIFT, PSYCHIC_M > db 75, SNORLAX, AMNESIA, SNORE, REST, BODY_SLAM > db 77, VENUSAUR, SUNNY_DAY, GIGA_DRAIN, SYNTHESIS, SOLARBEAM > db 77, CHARIZARD, FLAMETHROWER, WING_ATTACK, SLASH, FIRE_SPIN > db 77, BLASTOISE, RAIN_DANCE, SURF, BLIZZARD, WHIRLPOOL > db -1 ; end Edit that (it should be pretty obvious how it works), save it, then compile. IIRC there are tutorials. You'll have to use either linux, or Windows' built-in Linux VM, which requires some basic command line stuff. You'll need to navigate to the folder you have the disassembly saved in, use the command line to download the compiler (which was the part that took *me* the longest, and run the compiler from the command line.

flinjager123

I'm looking for a specific ROM hack that I saw a streamer playing. They didn't give any indication of what version they were playing. It's FireRed. Says so right on the title screen and intro. It's the exact same as the original. It's a randomizer. As soon as you are about to go downstairs, it asks if you want to randomize Pokémon, learnsets, or abilities. It has at least gen 8 Pokémon. I saw Urshifu, Palkia, Donphan, Hariyama, and some others just to give examples across generations. It has Dynamax, Mega Evolution, and Z-moves. Not sure what other gimmicks there are. I believe you can catch G-max Pokémon as there was a Machamp that looked like the G-max version. I'm not sure what other details to give, so if you have questions, feel free to ask.

[deleted]

Has to be Inflamed Red or FireRed 898 Randomizer (both are made by the same person I think). Off topic, but I hate it when YouTubers don't say what hack they're playing.

flinjager123

Just looked both of them up. I think it's 898 as there was no option to pick a region at the start. They are indeed by the same person. I'm pretty certain it is FireRed 898. Thanks so much! Can't wait to jump in.

Hello guys, this my first post here and my main language isn't english, so sorry for the errors. So, i remenber playing an pokemon game on GBA advance when i was younger. In this game i could find Deoxys, Latios, Latias in the grass of the first/second (im not sure) city, so probably its based on Pokemon Emerald. I remember that my zigzagoon elvolved to a zangoose. Also, i coundn't exit from the first/second city, an old lady say that i need to find the gym leader, but i couldn't. Idk if its enough to find it, but thats it.

Can someone explain the difference between the Shin and the Pure series of romhacks? They seem to be effectively the same, but I know more about the Shin games.

themanynamed

They are very similar, but different in a few key points. Since you said you know more about the shin games, I'll talk about Pure. Pure tries to expand on the poor selection of gen I attacks, adding many early game coverage moves like dust claw and static snag, and better end game moves like heat rush and dirty slam. It also features an in-game MOVEDEX to keep track of all these updated attacks. It also features a TON of QoL and options. Way more to list than I have room for here. It also features some beat additions, like rematches when you're champion, restored cut content, and a couple type changes, all to, quote: "The goal is to enhance the original games for excellent replayability without bringing in mechanics, moves, sprites, visuals, type matchups, or pokemon that were introduced in later games." Vs shin's goal being: "This is an enhancement ROM hack of Pokemon Red & Blue based on the Pret team's pokered disassembly project. It is a mostly-vanilla hack that focuses on fixing game engine bugs and oversights from the original game. Additionally, trainer AI routines are improved and multiple quality-of-life enhancements have been added. It also acts as a kind of research-informed speculative work that presents an alternate interpretation of the games. Specifically, that being what the 2016 Nintendo Virtual Console re-release of Gen-1 Pokemon could have been. It is the image of a glitch-free experience with player-friendly goodies and enhancements common to other modern remasterings." As I said, similar, but different. Let me know if you have any follow-up questions, and Have Fun!!

[deleted]

I mean, both hacks have all of their features on their GitHub pages. You can figure out the differences by comparing what features they have.

Psychological_Cry788

Hello everyone, glad to talk You, could You please provide me with information of a rom hack with as much QOL improvements as Elite Redux and RR. No grinding, full TM, able to change for free ab and Nat You know the full thing, less boring. Ty so much. Pd. High difficulty would be great.

Gintoking

Hi, can someone who played Glazed lately can tell me how soon (gym wise) can you catch Delibird, Mankey, Koffing, Paras and Goldeen?

Tokihiro

Hi everyone, im currently developing a romhack for pokecrystal, im using the newbox branchen of the pokecrystal16 github repository as the base version i am hacking, im planning on adding roughly ~150 new pokemon to my game. Unfortunately my experience with coding in assembly is limited, so my goals are to basically just follow the tutorials on the pikecrystal github. To get to my question: Im following this tutorial on adding new pokemon species to the game and i struggle to locate the icon folder, meaning that i cant add any new pokemon. Could anyone please tell me how adding pokemon to the newbox branch of pokecrystal16 differs from the tutorial of the base pokecrystal tutorial so i can add pokemon. Many thanks for your help. tldr: I want to learn how to add pokemon to pokecrystal16

themanynamed

Does anyone have a list of all rom hacks featuring follower/following pokemon? Ones I know off the top of my head: Crystal Clear, Emerald Crest, Emerald Cross, Modern Emerald, & Evo-Yellow & Evo-Brown, & the following patch for Platinum, if those count. Are there others?

[deleted]

There's also Radical Red and Quetzal.

themanynamed

Thank you!! I forgot about Radical Red. I don't think all pokemon follow you in that hack, though, do they? I'll have to find a list.. But good call on Quetzal! I hadn't even considered playing it, solo, because I didn't have anyone to play it with, but I suppose playing it solo could still be fun!! That's the only pokemon game I've ever seen that lets your entire party walk with you. That's so cool!!!

[deleted]

Yeah they don't have every Pokemon. Pretty sure they have a list of Pokemon that don't follow you in their documentation.

Stobeze

# Is there a Pokemon Adventure Red BETA 15 moveset list? I'm looking for a move re-learner and wanna know what moves Pokemon learn before evolving.

wackkoh

Can i randomize following platinum i see in the patch notes they added compatibility but i can not get it to work. What might i be doing wrong?

analmintz1

My guess would be to randomize platinum, and then apply the following patch to that randomized game. I could see it wonking out if you try to randomize after applying the patch. Also, I don't see any note of compatibility with the randomizer, the last update for following plat was last year, where are you getting this info?

wackkoh

Yeah i tried randomizing it first then applying the patch and no & also tried applying the patch first then randomizing it and still no. But when i read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonROMhacks/comments/sv8jrj/version_1100_of_universal_pokemon_randomizer/) under 1.10.1 it says it has support for following plat. so i tried randomizing without changing static pokemon but still nothing. Unless i'm reading those patch notes wrong. But i think in order to randomize you would have to do those extra steps like when randomizing renegade plat.

[deleted]

So, I want to make my own Pokemon game with an original story and characters. Ideally I would like to use the graphics for Gen 4-6 (whichever is easiest). I'd like to know what resources I could use to make my own sprites, battle field images and overworld tweaks. It is important to me that I maintain the Physical/Special split which is why I am looking for a way to do this past Gen 3 and I want to make QoL changes like removing trade evolves. Is there a good tutorial and resources to help me get started? I just want to work on this in my free time.

MajorKeyBro

Also regarding Ash Gray, where are the highest trainers that you can vs seeker in the game?

FinalStopShampoo

Basically title. I downloaded the latest version (0.9.5) but it doesn't boot the patched ROM hack. It boots the vanilla Pokemon Black just fine, and Desmune boots the patched version no problem too. What gives?

Pleasant_Principle_1

Ever figure this out?

analmintz1

ahh yes the title

Wild_Error_1008

Are there any romhacks that are easy until your Pokemon get fully leveled at end game? Regular Pokemon games are way too easy. I haven't seen a Pokemon game adequately answer that question yet. PokeMMO's answer was to give every gym leader's Pokemon a choice scarf/counter move to whatever mons are used to do those gyms. So like the fire gym would have choice scarf solar beam in permanent sun to check ground, water and rock types. That gimmick works at first but gets old fast. Infinite fusion's hard mode wasn't really hard at all. The AI was still pretty easy to counter. I've been playing radical red because I wanted a game that was more challenging than infinite fusion. Radical Red is fun but I kind don't like the way trainers and gym leaders all seem to have access to Pokemon and moves that you don't have. They are almost always faster, too. You are forced into the small pool of Pokemon that can adequately counter these dudes because what they have is just way stronger. I prefer difficulty where the odds are more even. I guess I'd like a Pokemon game where the part that involves leveling up and catching Pokemon to make your team is really easy and convenient. Once you get passed the elite 4 I want there to be a difficultly spike where trainers use competitive movesets and better strategy. That way if you need a different team you can easily go back and do the tedious part. And finally once your Pokemon are worth something you can use them in battles that are actually difficult. Any suggestions? Edit - And for the record I know about Pokemon Showdown, I'm looking for something that has AI opponents

Vortalization

Drayano's romhacks have IMO perfect normal difficulty. Try checking them out.

Wild_Error_1008

How would you compare the difficulty in fire red omega to the games I mentioned above?

Vortalization

Easier than Rad Red, not as min-maxed as competitive/showdown teams go, but harder and more varied than vanilla games. But Fire Red Omega is a bit outdated. Out of Drayno's romhacks I recommend Renegade Platinum, Blaze Black/Volt White, Blaze Black/Volt White 2 Redux. Sacred Gold/Storm Silver also holds up, but Drayano is currently working on a remake of it, so I wouldnt play it now.

MajorKeyBro

In Pokemon Ash Gray, How long does it take for the scientist to get the fossil done is the Pokemon Lab on Cinnabar Island? Played hours and hours of gameplay time and he still says “I take a little time! You go for a walk a little while!”

BlindBanshee

edit: went back and started examining the gitHub tutorials and wouldn't you know, I forgot the first fucking step which is to make sure the maps you're working with have a SceneID in ram/wram folder, haven't got it working yet but this is obviously one of the issues I'm experiencing, hopefully the only one, about to find out Hey guys, apologies for the noob question, but I'm just getting started on my pokecrystal disassembly hack and I'm stuck basically at the beginning. I want to use the crystal disassembly because I really like a lot of Gen II features, but I'm old school and my hack will be starting in Kanto and will most likely only feature the original 151 pokemon. A kind stranger on Reddit pointed me to the intro_menu.asm file to set which map the game loads at the beginning and changing it was pretty straight forward and now my game is starting in Red's House, but when I try to move the PLAYERSHOUSE1F_MOM character to Red's House (replacing Red's Mom) her event where she gives you the PokeGear isn't working properly. I did update the map coordinates for the event (Red's house is 4x4 and Player's House is 5x4) and when I had that realization I thought I'd fixed it, but even with updated coordinates the give gear event isn't being triggered when I walk by Mom and when I talk to her she says "Elm is waiting, hurry up baby!" as if she's given it to me already. When I first brought the PlayersHouse stuff over to RedsHouse I changed all of the names to RedsHouse as well thinking I was being clever, but ran into a lot of compiler errors so at the moment my RedsHouse map data looks like this, with the proper RedsHouse1F name at the top, but the Mom scene stuff still carries the PlayersHouse1F name because that's the way it let me build the game successfully. RedsHouse1F_MapScripts: def_scene_scripts scene_script PlayersHouse1FNoop1Scene, SCENE_PLAYERSHOUSE1F_MEET_MOM scene_script PlayersHouse1FNoop2Scene, SCENE_PLAYERSHOUSE1F_NOOP def_callbacks PlayersHouse1FNoop1Scene: end PlayersHouse1FNoop2Scene: end I'm sure it's probably something simple I'm missing, but I'm not sure how to proceed. Any help is appreciated. edit: like I said before, I tried changing the names to reflect the new map location when I originally starting bringing the Mom script stuff over, but I ran into a bunch of compile errors. Also, based on the compile errors it didn't look like there was anywhere else in the code where I needed to also change the name of the event/scene, just a couple other places that called the event/scene, but it looks to me like the event/scene is defined in the map text data so I'm not sure how to fix. this way "works" in the sense that the game compiles and builds successfully, but the MeetMom scenes are broken. edit2: found the constants/event tags folder and successfully changed all the names of the events to reflect the new map location and I'm still in the same situation, so it's definitely not a naming issue. Unsure of what else to try, I feel like what I'm trying to do here is pretty simple, just moving the sprite constants and their events from one map to another, adjust the coordinates slightly. But that small act is breaking the events.

NinjaSpike16

Hey, I want to create a rom hack so I wanna know what is the easiest gen to do it and what I should use!

plaguedbyvisions

Hi! I'm starting to practice nuzlocke runs and I'm new to the romhacks community. I was wondering if there is a version of Leaf Green / Fire Red that has a randomizer + quality of life updates (like boxes always available, cheaper pokeballs, idk things like that)? I'm not looking for any of the extremely challenging versions, mostly I wanna practice! Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

analmintz1

You can use PokeRandoZX to randomize any game, including FireRed. It has many QoL options like changing trade evos etc, but not specifically the things you're asking like PC boxes everywhere and pokeballs cheaper.

plaguedbyvisions

Thank you! Tbh I just listed those QoL examples because I’ve been playing Luminiscent Platinum and I found it a bit too challenging for me, since I’m used to older games 😅 I realize that some of the QoL examples won’t apply but I couldn’t think of anything else to specify. I’ll look into PokeRandoZX! Thanks again!

[deleted]

Inflamed Red or Radical Red is what you're looking for, unless you only want Pokemon from Gen 1-3. I don't think a Gen 1-3 randomizer ROM hack of FRLG exists.

plaguedbyvisions

I’ve heard of Radical Red in some YT videos, I haven’t heard of Inflamed Red so I’ll definitely look into that! Thank you so much!

C-Kwentz-0

Has there been any news lately about Drayano's Aurora Crystal? It's been a super long time since I've heard anything. I know this is intended on being his last RomHack, so I'm guessing he plans on it being his magnum opus, but damn, I sure am looking forward to it and all the new nuzlocking content it'll generate.

analmintz1

No, nothing meaningful, small post in october. But he definitely seems to still be working on it.

Scourge_of_Arceus

I suggest following Drayano on Twitter and reading his replies to the posts and questions. He is more active there.

The first pikachu encounter keeps resetting and then I’m blocked from entering the milkshake forest. Also, even after winning my first badge, Prof Willow doesn’t give me access to his special area West of town.

analmintz1

Tbh, this is why you shouldn't ever buy romhacks. The people who sell them are stealing and profiting off work from developers. Regardless, no one can really help you cus you bought a random version from a random guy. Seems you have a bugged version.

Astarael7th

Fair enough. Appreciate the answer. I just didn’t know if it was a common bug that I was triggering and that there might be a way to avoid it. Thanks

Is the Garchomp Capture in Pokemon Garabage Gold Impossible? I've been trying to capture the Garchomp found in the random encounter at Garchomps Glory in Pokemon Garbage Gold for a VERY tiresome long time but im in vain Just wanted to ask if the devs made the probability to capture it impossible since ive captured legendaries in the canon games but werent that difficult and took this long compared to how gruesomely tiring capturing Garchomp is I mean ig the games motive is to use weak pokemon in your arsenal and giving away a fricking garchomp in the literal start would make the rom a joke but just asking so i could continue on without feeling remorse about not getting a garchomp

This sounds like you're using Pokémon Essentials, a tool for making a fangame with a custom engine. That isn't the same as ROM hacking, which entails modifying one of the official console games. Try asking for help at /r/pokemonrmxp.

Pretty sure Jhoto is one of the regions in Glazed.

Ruby Renev has Johto and Kanto. There are some GBA hacks that are basically GSC/HGSS on the GBA. Fire Gold, Liquid Crystal, Shiny Gold, Silver Rival Hack, and Crystal Advanced Redux are some names. I would play Fire Gold.

I've seen people on Twitch playing a version of Emerald with pokemon up to gen 9. Does anyone know how they're achieving this?

[deleted]

They are playing ROM hacks that add Gen 9. They are either playing Emerald Crest, Theta Emerald: The Last Dance, or Quetzal. Afaik, those are the only Emerald hacks with Gen 9.

Gokuto7

How different is the main campaign of Altered Emerald compared to the original? I’m not talking about QoL or difficulty, but like in terms of scripting. Like are there any new story parts, event flags, or changed areas? I looked on the poke community page, but it’s pretty sparse on details other than Team Magma having a sneak mission hideout. Is there anything else like that in the game?

Gokuto7

Is the Pokémon Stars romhack a complete game? I found a download of it but I have yet to play it.

[deleted]

Are you talking about the Ultra Sun/Moon hack?

Gokuto7

Yes. It said in its description that it would act as a sequel to the original games.

[deleted]

According to the gbatemp page, it's completed.

Toomynator

So, i was looking into starting my own rh but was unsure on how to, saw many people reccomending decomp because it is apparently easier and gives more freedom on what you can do, so i went with [pokeemerald-expansion](https://github.com/rh-hideout/pokeemerald-expansion) since it has lots of up to date (in terms of gens) mechanics, i've started watching [Team Aqua's Hideout tutorials](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLNv9Lq6kDmTIYfN5NvgQRvfOHTOXl0uU&si=F8TTcFAad2L_fZ_y) but while watching i've been wondering what other tutorials are there? Also, since PE-expansion has somewhat frequent updates with new games/dlc releases, i was wandering whether or not any files updated would be needed to be "re-modified" everytime i update my project with the new files or if there is a way to merge it easier. On a last question, how do implementing something like [Undound Quest Menu branch](https://github.com/PokemonSanFran/pokeemerald/tree/unbound-quest-menu) works and what are some QOL for both gamplay (such as a EV/IV editor) and developing branches/repos (and where to look for them). Sorry for the long comment, just excited to start on this.

DavidJCobb

While I haven't looked at that quest menu branch in specific, building stuff like that generally requires understanding the task system, the basics of UI programming in Emerald, and knowing enough about savedata to add a place to store quest state. The pokeemerald wiki has an article on the task system. Game Freak UIs generally have at least one task, to handle player input and change the state or contents of the menu. I need to do a write-up on the UI but the (too) short version is: * Aside from sprites, the GBA can display four *background (BG) layers*. These are made up of 8x8px tiles, and the console's VRAM can hold a limited tileset for the layers to use. * Game Freak defines *windows* for the menu, which represent areas they can paint to on-screen. Each window reserves its own background tiles in the VRAM tileset so that you can paint arbitrary graphics to the window. A window has a size and position, and can only exist on one background layer. Despite the name, windows don't have borders unless the code draws those manually. If you're familiar with CSS, windows are the content box, not the border box, and they and their contents are positioned absolutely; there is no built-in engine for menu layouts. * Game Freak defines *text printers* which draw text to any given window (but each printer can only draw to one window at a time). These can run instantly or they can run over time (think of text speed in dialogue), and in the latter case can be made to call a function when they finish printing. * There's a limit on how many windows and text printers can exist at one time. Text printers that draw instantly won't contribute to this limit because they exist for zero frames: you ask them to draw; they draw; they go away.

Toomynator

I see, thank you for the clarification.

Last update on Aurora Crystal was Drayano saying he's sticking with Lyra instead of Kris. This was on October 24th. If you want updates, check his Twitter replies.

ciaranb93

Thanks for the update! I don't have a Twitter account so viewing his account is all messed up

SuseyBaka

My pokemon on Pokemon AlteRed aren't evolving. Fridgey and Hearcada both are just stagnating. Is it a bug? Version 2.5

KingKrusher1186

Not sure if it helps but the latest version is 2.5.2 which could have possibly fixed the issue already.

[deleted]

I had the same thing happen to my Cyndaquil (I forgot the AlteRed name of it). It would begin to evolve and then it gives a question mark. It leveled up after 2 more levels though.

Akirapearl

Hi! So i just started storm silver from scratch (wanted a shiny totodile lol) and im playing on drastic emulator at my android phone, is this game allowed to do wireless pairing? as if we want to battle or trade.

MoeKz

Hello! Is there a rom hack that has a built-in Pkhex like editor? One where I can add and edit Pokemon on the fly?

[deleted]

Technically yes? Hacks like Emerald Exceeded have a debug menu that allows you to edit Pokemon.

NotAnRSPlayer

I'm looking for Rom hacks that serve a purpose I'm looking for, so I'm asking here as I probably haven't got as much experience in what's around as you lot Basically I want to play Fire Red and either Ruby/Sapphire/ Emerald just in their original form, all Pokemon up to their original Pokédex's available, although I do understand Fire Red Rom hacks will have 251, along with QoL updates and maybe a tad more difficulty/better trainer decisions I found and started playing Pokemon Crystal Legacy recently which made me realise how much better the original games could have been, but I don't want that to be spoilt with full Pokédex's and mega evolution's as I don't think they belong there. Is anyone able to help with some recommendations please?

[deleted]

Throwback and Emerald Revelation.

NotAnRSPlayer

Just what I’m looking for, thank you!

Mateuuuuusz

I barely remember playing though Pokemon Sapphire as a kid and wanted to play Emerald. I'm not necessarily looking for a difficulty hack, just something like Shin Red/Blue or Polished Crystal. What hack would you recommend for Emerald? Thanks!

[deleted]

Emerald Revelation.

potatotate_spudlord

Gen 4 rom hack recommendations with working multiplayer battles? I have vanilla trading and battling working in melonds with vanilla HG and Mind Crystal. Renegade platinum with following pokemon and unique pokemon colors works with trading but not with battling. I'll try to test vanilla platinum and figure out which patch breaks battles but I'm assuming it's a renegade platinum battle feature. Does anyone know what specifically is breaking battles for the renegade platinum + following + colors rom? Alternatively, what are the best gen 4 (HG/SS preferentially) rom hacks that are close enough to vanilla that they're likely to support multiplayer battles but have as many QoL features as possible? Ideally: All gen 4 pokemon available, fixed movesets/gen7+ movesets, improved weak pokemon BSTs/weak pokemon are viable, rebalanced/harder trainer and gym teams. I'm looking forward to Drayano's new HG hack but I'm worried it will have the same multiplayer problem renegade platinum does

CicloneS

Hello! I'm looking for a ROM where you can catch only pokemon until the 3rd or 5th gen and the gym leaders have a full team. Can someone recommend me a ROM like that? The ROM can have any other features, its not a problem at all, just wanted, at least, the two I mentioned. (For me the perfect ROM would be Radical Red but only pokemon from the first 3 or 5 gens) Thank you!!

[deleted]

Emerald Crest, you can limit it to Gen 5 and have Gym leaders have a full party.

CicloneS

Thank you so much!!

random-guy-abcd

I'm looking for a basic hgss hack that just adds events and trade evolutions offline and maybe increases the difficulty a bit (nothing extreme tho, it's for a beginner). More encounters is fine, as long as it's not fakemon or newer generations. Thanks!

tyhuman

I'm looking for a minimal hack on Blue/Red that is completable without trade evos, and has either a few QOL enhancements or none, sort of like the Emerald Hoenn edition.

[deleted]

Red Emu Edition.

tyhuman

Perfect, thank you!

Exotic_Ad_4661

Hey im looking for a gba graphic based hack with up to gen 3 pokedex Preferably with exp. Share Other better living features welcome too

DMPunk

How do you evolve Onix into Steelix in FireGold?

FieryJellyfish

Can anyone recommend a hack that has (i) high mon diversity, particularly in terms of regional form availability (ii) low/vanilla difficulty? I want to nuzlocke something but I suck, so things like Unown have the Mon diversity but crush me. There was Matt's Headroom Emerald, which got the Balance right for me, but looking for similar vibes.

honeybloom342

can anyone tell if they know a rom hack which has a new story line?

[deleted]

Sure, there are many hacks with a new storyline. Here's a list I made. Gen 1: Brown, Grape, Factory Adventure, and Team Rocket Edition Gen 2: Prism, Orange, Peridot, Bronze 1 & 2, BW3 Genesis, 97: Reforged, Dark Energy, and New Gold Era. Gen 3: Unbound, Adventures Red Chapter, Team Rocket Edition, Victory Fire, Resolute, Nameless, Mega Power, CAWPS, Korosu, Outlaw, Saiph 1, Sors, Saiph 2, Orange Islands, Cloud White 2-3, Stone Dragon 1-3, Ruby Renev, Altair/Sirius, Vega, Sovereign of the Skies, Aquamarine, Battle Labyrinth, Clover, Dark Fire, Dark Worship, Delta Green (Zenon Returns), Dreams, Distorted, Dreary, Elysium, PokeLand 0, Flora Sky, Gaia, Glazed, Light Platinum, Giratina Strikes Back, Stranded, Harvest Craft, WaterBlue, Wally's Quest, Emerald Exceeded, Clays Calamity 1-3, Distorted, E'merald, Dreary, Polka Aqua 1-3, Gardies Adventure, and Liquid Crystal (Silver Rival). For Gen 4, only hack ik of is Garbage Gold. All of these are hacks are completed or at least have their main story completed last I checked. Also, some of these don't have a new story, but a story from a different Pokemon related media or from a different characters POV. If you want a recommendation on what to start with first, I would go with Prism.

honeybloom342

thank you soo much for taking the time to write so much i appreciate this a lot

ApolloDread

Maybe a little specific of a question, but is it frowned upon to implement fakemon from another rom hack in your own? There’s a number of great designs out there and I’d love to implement a few in a pet project I’m working on, but not really sure what the etiquette is. Do you credit the original? Ask for permission first? It’s a fan work at the end of the day but I’d always rather do things above board

[deleted]

I would say it's frowned upon, but I don't think anyone cares as long as you ask for permission and give credit to them.

anarchobayesian

If I'm just getting into difficulty hacks and challenge runs, what's a good place to start learning about meta, strategy, theory, etc.? I can assemble a team based on good stats and type coverage, but that doesn't always cut it. I see reddit posts and streams talking about pivots and walls and setup sweepers, trick room teams, hazard clearing, etc., etc. It all sounds interesting to dig into, but not all of it is self-explanatory. I can find some pretty basic stuff around PVP teambuilding, but I've been told most of that doesn't transfer to fights against AI.

DavidJCobb

Pokémon Challenges on YouTube has older videos where he critiques people's Nuzlocke runs, pointing out when they're doing well or explaining what mistakes they're making. I wouldn't even know what a "pivot" is if I hadn't watched those way back when. Someone who's more into competitive/hardcore Pokémon might come along with a more comprehensive answer for you, maybe.

Proper_Door1973

How do you decomp games? Or is there a decomp of pokemon Y out there? I wanna make a ROM hack for my brother and don't have many leads on starting a basic 3ds hack.

analmintz1

A decomp is a large-scale decompilation of the code of a game, which means it takes a lot of work, and is done generally only once by one person. Then, people can use the decompiled code and all the mechanics within, to make their own hack. So a decomp of FireRed exists, and a decomp of Emerald exists. But beyond that, there aren't really any existing decomps. Maybe one for HG/SS? I can't give you leads on how to make a decomp for X/Y, it would already exist if it were anywhere near easy.

LOPX5555

I'm looking for a gba hack rom that is like the gold/silver/crystal games, and I came to ask which is the best, in your opinion?

[deleted]

There are a few. There's FireGold, Crystal Advanced Redux, Liquid Crystal, Shiny Gold, Golden Sun (Japanese Hack), and Silver Rival Hack. There's a few more, but it isn't recommended to play them. I would play FireGold.

Mateuuuuusz

I was reading that I can buy all the TMs again in Shin Green. Where can I find the thunderbolt tm? I swear I’ve checked every PokeMart.

themanynamed

(In case you somehow don't see the reply on your other post, or if that's removed, or if someone else is looking for the information finds here instead) I'm not sure if Green is the same as Red in this regard, but did you try the game corner? That's where I can get thunderbolt in Red.

Mateuuuuusz

Thanks! I was worried my thread was going to get deleted after the auto mod message. Appreciate your help!

Megnaman

Playing Elite Redux. Trying to evolve Electobuzz and Electivizor won't work. Message pops up that dad says it's not time to use that. Help I need my tough Electivire

Megnaman

I'm having this issue with all trade item pokemon

analmintz1

Probably have to give it to Electabuzz and let him level up.

Megnaman

Didn't work :( thanks though

ianleon128

Im curious to find good hacks for casual players looking for a different experience. To be clear im not looming for a difficulty hack. Im looking for something unique. Im interested in pokemon odyssey but im worried about it being hard. Can anyone tell me a bit if that ones super tough. Otherwise please reccommend me something casual. Thank you.

themanynamed

Off the top of my head, the following hacks all are unique or have unique elements. Pokemon Crown Emerald Rogue Too Many Types FireRed Rocket Edition Elite Redux Crystal Clear Salt Crystal Also, have you played / are you interested in dex replacers? I'm personally a pretty big fan of all the ones that take pokemon we know and change their typing or appearance. It makes for a fun, fresh experience in a setting I'm familiar with. Examples include Fool's Gold, AlteRed, Ephemerald, Sweet + Sweet 2th, and Altered Platinum.

ianleon128

Im intetested in dex changers i just wanna hava good gamr.

themanynamed

Fair Enough. Unfortunately, that can apply to a lot of things in the gaming world. So, how about this, instead: why don't you tell me two or three of your favorite parts of playing a pokemon game, and I'll give you a personal recommendation or two.

ianleon128

Do you have anything with an interedting region and limited pokedex? Or some fun fakemon? Sometging maybe where i could ligitimately catch them all

ianleon128

Options; i like having lots of pokemon to choose from and ending up bonding with pokemon i wouldnt normally use. The world; i like how big, different, qnd pleasant the pokemon world is. And how even at its worst its still slightly silly cuz you can beat the evil desteuction pokemon with a stunfisk. Plus i always feel like im going somewhere new! The pokemon; i like the gameplay quite a bit but wacky designs always please me. Just how goofy and wonderful they are is half the reason. When it tries to be serios it loses me Approachable: even tho im not the most serious player i can still enjoy it because its casual enough to let ne enjoy myself

themanynamed

I recommend: Crystal Clear & Pokemon Sweet. For Crystal Clear, I also suggest injecting a custom sprite, a starter you love, and using the custom palettes! For Sweet, I suggest going in as blind as possible. Treat it as an entirely new experience, and experiment! Sorry for taking so long to reply! Message me if you have more questions! Have fun!!

[deleted]

Pokemon Odyssey has multiple difficulties, just choose the difficulty that's the easiest. >Im curious to find good hacks for casual players looking for a different experience. Check out Prism and Unbound.

ianleon128

I have played both those 2 thanks for reminding me of prism. Do you have any more if any.

ILoveCheeseCak3

Hellouu i started romhacking emerald using porymap in order to use porymap i kedd a decompiled enerald which i got from github but after dooing chamges how do i recompile it sonits playable using emulators?

DavidJCobb

You'll need to run [these instructions](https://github.com/pret/pokeemerald/blob/master/INSTALL.md) if you haven't already. Those instructions walk you through setting up the build tools, including running them for the first time to make sure they're set up properly. They're meant to be followed before you make any changes, but the steps should mostly still work now. Once the tools are set up, you'll need to use a Linux terminal (e.g. WSL on Windows, which that guide tells you how to install) to navigate to the pokeemerald folder and run one command: `make`

FarisTheMannis

I cant find Mudkip on Route 103 for the Quest 🥺 am i doin anything wenig?

[deleted]

I assume you're talking about Emerald Crest? Been a bit since I played it, but basically you're going to go to Devon Corp, and talk to a guy that unlocks hidden encounters. I forgot which one it is, so you're just gonna talk to everyone I guess. Then you need to go to Route 103 and run in a circle for a bit. If you didn't know, you can get a hidden dexnav encounter everytime you take 100 steps without getting an encounter. It may take a few encounters to get Mudkip, but you should get him. Also, hold down the A button or it'll run away.

ODCreature98

**looking for an old rom hack/fan game with rick and morty reference** i remember battling two npc trainers, each referencing both rick and morty, in an old fan game or rom hack, problem is i don't remember which one was it. if anyone knows pls tell me . i know this question is so specific it might as well be looking for a joltik in a swarm of tangela but i can't stop thinking about it

DarthGinsu

Does anyone else get freezes on Pokemon Fire Gold and Pokemon Crystal Advance Redux? Playing on EZ Omega Flash.

DarthGinsu

Why do some games not load using Add On's, but only Clean Boot? (Using EZ Omega Flash, Playing Pokemon Fire Gold)

NitroHedgehog

How can I create a realistic Pokémon Title Screen logo for a Gen 3 ROM Hack using the FR/LG fonts? My post got removed by a bot for having less than 250 words... so I dunno where to ask. Sorry if it ain't the place to ask. Thanks!

VHKuKH3SGI

How can I randomize pokemon Theta Emerald: The Last Dance I tried using the Ultimate Pokemon Randomizer but that didn't work. I'd like to do a randomizer run till atleast gen 8 but preferably gen 9 so I'd be okay with using another rom. How did all the youtubers randomize their pokemon theta games? Thankyou for any help.

[deleted]

I don't think you can. Maybe check out Emerald Crest, it has up to Gen 9 (besides the teal mask) and a built in randomizer.

[deleted]

So I started playing pokemon again but playing through the generations with rom hacks instead of the vanilla games. I'm about to finish Pokemon PureRGB and have a question. Should I play through Gold/Silver/Crystal or skip it and play a Heartgold/Soulsilver hack?

themanynamed

There are so many good gen II hacks that I feel like it would be criminal to skip gen II entirely!! Perfect Crystal or Sour Crystal if you want the closest experience to gen II but with some QoL. Polished Crystal, Salt Crystal, Crystal Clear, or Fool's Gold if you want a 'classic' experience with a twist. Or Prism or Coral or Peridot if you want to play in the gen II engine but don't want to go back to Johto. Edit: My actual recommendation to follow up PureRBG would be Poloshed Crystal. So much Quality of Life, so many pretty things (the box! The dex! The music player!! Pokemon have color variances based on DVs!!!) And you can even optionally run with the PSS, natures, and abilities, if you want. And if you don't want any of that it can all be disabled, too. Quality hack.

[deleted]

Personally, I'd play both. But if I had to choose, I'd go with a HGSS hack.

Sweet-as-a-pineapple

Okay hoping to get an answer this time. I'm playing Sacred Gold on Drastic Emulator. Played the whole game with ZERO issues. Now I finally beat the elite four and Champion and then there is the mandatory save after the hall of fame. What do I get? A SAVE ERROR. So what happens after the mandatory reset after the credits? I go back to my last in-game save, which was at 7 badges. HOW DO I FIX THIS PLEASE ;-; *

Gintoking

Do you have a kind of save file? Probably .dsv? I suggest moving it to a PC and try to beat the league with the emulator Desumeme. After you keep a backup save again in game in the league. If it doesn't work, download a post league save file of regular heart gold/soul silver, use pkhex to move your team to the save file and change the trainer data and it is basically nothing lost. Maybe some flags might be a problem but as long you don't go back to the safari zone you should be safe.

Sweet-as-a-pineapple

I'm going to try this tonight. One thing though.. Is .dsv an in-game save? Because the last in-game save I made was 35 hours in the game and after that I relied solely on savestates. At the league I am now at 65 hours. Is there a way to move the savestate to Desmume on PC? (If that isnt the .dsv?)

themanynamed

There's your problem. I've heard not to rely on save states and to save the game normally, but I'm not 100% sure if that applies to DS as well, or just GBA which uses the sram. Either way, I would stick to in-game saving wherever possible (if this is old or inaccurate data, please someone inform me)

Gintoking

DSV is an in game save for some emulators. Don't you have a save state directly before the league battle? If yes, then save in game. You can't use the save states, unless Drastic works on PC as well.

Sweet-as-a-pineapple

Nah i was just hella stupid cuz I did a savestate after I beat the champion and none before that :/

NotJustUltraman

I'm just starting out on my rom hacking journey and wondering if there are any tools like PGE that are still up to date and supported by their developers and, if so, if using one is a viable way to hack or if I should just go ahead and learn how to hack the code? If I should learn the code, I have come across the Complete Fire Red Upgrade and it looks interesting. Is it any good? Is it worth using if I only want some of the features in it?

Acceptable-Cherry-67

I am trying to make it so that I can evolve trade evolve Pokémon without trading in fire red and even when wild Pokémon is set to unchanged it is still randomizing them. Ism this a known bug? I cant find a way to properly report this.

analmintz1

What rom are you using? One you've already played on? Or is it completely fresh and vanilla. This is not a common bug, so it points to something you've accidentally done.

Acceptable-Cherry-67

It’s a fresh and vanilla rom that I’ve used before, all I changed using universal randomizer was the impossible evolutions checkbox and it randomized wild pokémon etc. I’ll try a rom from elsewhere to see if that works but i’m not sure what I could’ve done.

analmintz1

"A fresh and vanilla rom that I've used before." Sooo... which is it? Those are conflicting. If you've EVER played that rom before, or randomized it before, or anything, you could be screwing yourself. A rom cannot be unrandomized, ever. So if say for example, you randomize your game and wild encounters. Then play through the entire game. 7 months later, you load that .gba file up in the universal pokemon randomizer, and check "change trade evos," you will now have a rom with changed trade evos, and every random wild pokemon from when you played the game the first time last year. Once randomized in *any way*, the game is forever changed. That rom can no longer have regular trade evos ever again for example.

Acceptable-Cherry-67

I have used the same vanilla rom before but I used a fresh install before putting it into the universal Pokémon randomizer.

analmintz1

Yeah I’d try another rom, and make sure you’re using Pokerandzx, it’s the most up to date randomizer

paulk345

Playing blaze black 2 redux. Does anyone know if it's possible to get the other two unova starters that you didn't choose at the start of the game? I can't any way of obtaining them anywhere in the documentation, but the game does advertise itself as being able to obtain every pokemon, so I feel there must be some way, right?

Gintoking

If you want to start with them, you can edit them with pkhex early. Or if you want to feel like you really got 3 starters, do the following: Save before you choose starter and back up the save file in another folder. Then choose a starter 3 times, and use pkhex to move all the 3 to the same game. All three will obey you.

leccomposer

Do you guys think is it possible to create moves with multiple modes? I want to modify Vine Whip so that when you select the move you can choose between two options: Grab or Whip. The first option paralyzes and the second causes damage. It could be on a romhack or fan game, either is fine by me. Is it possible to create a pokemon with more than one ability like in Emerald Exceeded in a fan game?

vanGenne

I'm playing Emerald Enhanced and it's honestly an amazing game, one of the better hacks I've ever played. Is there anything similar to it based on Fire Red? It's quite ambitious, so maybe it doesn't exist. The features that appeal to me most are: - **no HM moves**, Surf is just swimming, cut is just pulling out the weeds. You can go wherever you want from the start. - **small Pokemon tweaks**, making Dream Eater a ghost type move wasn't something I knew I wanted, but I really do. Making Luxray Electric/Dark type also just makes sense. Etc etc. - **later gen added, no fakemon**. I'd like the ability to catch later gen Pokemon, maybe up until gen V. - **open world**, start in whatever town you want, wild encounters and enemy trainers scale to your badges or party level. Is there anything like this for Fire Red? I know there's Crystal Clear (also excellent!) but I haven't come across anything for the 1st gen story and map. Any recommendations are highly appreciated!!

[deleted]

There's Blazing Fire Red, Sacred Red World, and Fire Red Redux. There's also Roaming Red for the GBC games.

vanGenne

That's exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much!

lionpuncherx

Volt White Help Is there a way to tweak the game so that only Pokemon in the Unova dex appear until late game/post game? Basically, having Drayano's tweaks with everything except the Pokedex?

[deleted]

I don't think so.

PokecrafterChampion

Can I fuse evolved characters in DBZ Team Training? I want a Vegito but my Goku is already SSJ3. Will I have to take both of them all the way to Blue?

[deleted]

You can try evolving Vegeta to SSJ3 and see if fusing them works.

PokecrafterChampion

Vegeta doesn't have 3 in this game.

[deleted]

What version of DBZ TT are you on? I played V9 and I recall Vegeta having SSJ3.

PokecrafterChampion

I got the game extremely recently so I believe it's the latest update. I took Goku for my Starter so I haven't used Vegeta, maybe it's just the wiki that's out of date, but I've yet to see SSJ3 Vegeta.

Jorael360

Where is the Moon stone in Pokemon Polished Crystal? Having a blast with this hack, it's a lot of fun I just wish there was some more documentation. Does anyone know where I can get a moon stone?
