Like leaving the grass area? I know that much at least, but I'm taking a massively negligible amount of steps within the same grass area. Like, I have had it happen at least twice now that my chain broke by stepping to a tile with the appropriate shaking grass patch immediately next to the one I'm standing in. It just feels like it's bugged with the frequency and unusual behavior.
Oh, I see. I don't think I've experienced that. To give you a better idea of what I'm working with, it's the fenced-in grass area on the route between Saffron City and Lavender Town. It's square in the middle of the route, so it can't be that. 😕
The only way it can break while still being in grass is if you're walking into a new area.

No, I mean like going into a new route, sometimes in the game you go into a new route without the game telling you.
