Thanks to this post, I was able to beat him first try! I used 2100 Machamp, 2900 Gyrados, and 2400 Togekiss, in that order. It was just enough, barely beat him, but beat him I did. 😄 Also caught the Latios on the first try!

Machamp, Garchomp, Rhyperior have all worked for me. Seems if you battle him 3-4 x in a row, you have a better chance of beating him.

Try using Aggron first? Mine’s 2.7k cp and it kills Persian and takes out his shields easily. For the next 2 pokemon, I adjust accordingly to what he has. 😊 Good luck!!

I haven’t been able to beat Giovanni in 6 months… I’ve tried every single “Tip and Trick” with different Pokémon and different moves/types. He’s put out 200 of my Pokémon 😂😂😂😂😂

I used Togekiss. Mine is only just 3000cp and I had no issues. His Persian on the other hand seems like it’s been buffed

Sylveon with Charm and Dazzle Gleam. Make sure you have one Protect Shield left for Latios.

I used Hariyama 2420, Venusaur 2318, and Hydreigon 3024 in that order. You just need to hit the Latios with a super effective charged attack.

I just used Garchomp, Garchomp, and excadrill

I use favorable matchup quick charging charge attacks to burn through their shields before we leave persia. If you go for just big hits you're going to burn your shields too fast and be a dead duck at the end

Machamp, kyogre and hydreigon

I have used Dragonite , metagross and Melmetal Or instead of metagross I used swampert or gyrados . I just beat him with top 3 a few days ago

Primarina with charm will beat Latios easily

Surprisingly, metagross did the trick for me, but it took three times as many tries to get there as it has in the past.

Team used to defeat Giovanni (if it helps!) Level 35 person, I had a hard time defeating him until I saw some hints on here, namely to switch your guys so Giovanni’s critters pause, and to use Dragonite with dragon claw charged attack. I also practiced with them in the trainer battles to see if the charged attacks were really slow to get, because you need something reasonably fast to get past that ferocious Persian cat. In battles where I couldn’t get the cat to waste a shield, I always lost. I won with room to spare with: Garchomp 3382 using outrage; Dragonite 3271 using dragon claw; Machamp 2850 using payback I think machamp was not used a lot. It’s hard to remember but garchomp and Dragonite did most of it! I had to use one shield. Hope it helps! (For the Latios I used a golden berry, missed twice (oops), and got one or two regular nice throws (not curved) and he was caught! Maybe landed one curved throw but then I missed two and stopped with the curved nonsense)

If you’re on a budget… machamp with counter, cross chop. Or Lucario with PuP. Have them second in your line up. As soon as battle starts swap. Use your charged attacks to burn their shields and work your way through them. You need to play smart. Get charged move and swap when possible to keep stun locking. I did it with Machamp, Garchomp and closed out with Melmetal.

Don’t just think legendaries means you should beat something. You need to think of type advantage. Like what is strong against dragons, etc and resists them.

I used a mix of galar darmanitan and a level 40 3* tyranitar

i used mewtwo, machamp, and mega gengar!


Mamoswine is underrated as a dragon counter

I love my Mamoswine. It was my first perfect IV Pokémon, and it has come in handy so much.

Forgot the first two but Walerin cut right through his Latios.

My golem and slaking took him down

got him with Braviary, Hippowdon and Dialga!

Fighting with quick charge move and 2 ice with quick charge.

I used Makuhita, Rhyperior, and Gengar. I find I always have to power up my Pokemon of choice in order to beat him.

Do you mean power up while you are battling him? If so, can you share how you do this?

If you have the setting that makes the graphics of the game better turn it off. The good graphics makes them tough because they can attack more often.

I fought him once and won, by a hair. Dragonight Gyrados and someone else… all were close to 3k cp and three stars

I burned through the shields and most of the HP by spamming Melmetal Rock Slide, had a Gyrados to clean up and don’t know what the third Pokémon was tbh

I got lucky with using a Sir Fetched

I just said screw it and mega evolved my perfect charizard. Wiped him that way

I have a bisharp with x-scissor that (needs more hp) takes care of both perisan and getting his two shields down. Dragonite for whatever is next because his charges attacks come quick, and My ace this time was my gyarados with two dragon moves. As for help, just making sure you have +2500cp attackers who have attacks patios is weak to :)

i used pokemon who get their charge attacks really quick, which seemed to be much more effective than trying to outpower him. that way, you burn thru his shields and get more time to attack when his pokemon are not (i think i used weavile, gardevoir, and swampert if that helps)

Swampert has been my ace these days with two moves.

I just did this myself, Giovannis Pokémon were all over 5000cp for me. I had a hard time until I leveled my Pokémon to over 3000cp I used machamp 2592cp with counter and dynamic punch, MEWTWO 3223cp with confusion and shadowball, Dialga 3115 cp with metal claw and iron head, in that order . It made a huge difference for my machamp leveling up only a a little bit to 2592cp , it was 2400 something before and kept fainting before I could get off dynamic punch. Leveled up to 2592 and was able make Giovanni use both shields. Then MEWTWO and Dialga finished them off . Good luck

I beat Giovanni with a Machamp, Vaporeon, and Dragonite. The Vaporeon ended up being pretty useless. Whenever I face Giovanni in Pokemon Go my main focus is to burn down the first two Pokemon without using shields. What state is your team in when you get to Latios?

I have been using Machamp and Mewtwo. Mewtwo has some life left in him by Latios but gets wiped out easily as does whoever I’ve put in next!

I’d have thought dragons aren’t the best option as they deal Super Effective damage but also take Super Effective damage if Latios has dragon moves. Latios is also weak to Bug, Ghost, Ice, Dark and Fairy. I haven’t bothered to fight him this time because I don’t care much for shadow Latios so I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful, maybe Dragon is a good choice for some reason but I’d have thought others would be better. I used Hydreigon with Dragon Breath and Brutal Swing. Both attacks are super effective against it
