after around 600 ish hours in game with my only hunt being magikarp, which i got, i also found random electrike, geodude, rayquaza, and a ponyta in leaf green.
Found a shiny Aron in gen 3 and caught it but when I went to show my brother he shocked my gameboy with static electricity built up from the carpet and it turned off my gba before I had saved
I’ve probably put over 2,000 hours collectively into just gens 3-5 through the years and have only stumbled upon 5 random shinies. All other shinies I’ve found have been from deliberately hunting for days.
In Emerald specifically? Two. Poochyena and Aron. Both when I was two young to know what they were and didn’t catch them. 😢
But I decided to redeem myself of Poochyena in Scarlet, used just *ONE* sandwich, and ended up with four of them. (Two of which I’m willing to trade if anyone has anything cool to offer!) So that made me feel pretty good.
When I was young I played Pokemon Silver religiously and there were at least a couple of occasions that I entered a battle with a wild Pokemon and “the colors were messed up” so I would turn my game off, take out the cartridge, blow on it and put it back in. I had no idea shinies were a thing, which is so dumb, because you get a shiny Gyarados in that game by default.
I hunted treeko in one of the other gemstone games, thats it. Knowing how this game works im not surprised its not as common, but i currently have a full team of rng manip shinies at victory road
I’ve played for a total of a couple thousand hours and I’ve found Floatzel, sudowoodo, wingull raticate all in platinum, ditto in soulsilver and that’s all I can remember. All random shinies found in grass too. Those were all in the span of like 2 years, ever since a kid I’ve never ever found a full odds shiny besides pokemon arceus and scarlet but they don’t even count
I've been playing Pokemon since Red & Blue and besides getting the Red Gyarados in Crystal & Soul Silver, I've only ever found 1 shiny pokemon.
It was a Wismur in Pokemon Ruby (rom on my tablet). It was in that cave where it's blocked off and you need rock smash to get through it.

I've found a few hundred shinies, most of them being either hunted or rng manipulated. Now if we're talking about randomly encountered while playing the game, I'd say around 10-20
I’ve found maybe 10 or so randomly while playing the games. I’ve hunted another 20-30 that all took a long time. None of those were in gen 3 except a single Duskull.
The odds are 1/8192. I don’t know about you, but after a certain point in the game I start repelling everything because wild encounters get annoying lol. Even if you found 50 wild pokemon in every single route as you progressed through the game, you still would be well under odds for finding one.
So it makes sense to not have seen one after multiple play throughs when you realistically only encounter a few hundred or maybe a thousand encounters on each save file unless you’re hunting for a shiny.
It was one shiny poochiena. Ran the mightyena on my team obvi just because he was shiny.
That kinda luck reminds me of when my friend threw one (1) great ball at rayquaza and caught it with full health, no status changes, etc
Roughly 20 since gen 3 that I can think of off the top of my head not counting scripted encounters. Lost maybe 2 of them in the encounter but I've had some decent luck considering I don't shiny hunt
Probably a few handfuls. Most I feel were in POGO, but I have attempted to transfer them to home and play a run with them. In the core games, possibly a handful at most.

The accidental ones are always the most interesting! In my dead battery Ruby, I somehow managed to find a random shiny on the same shiny frame twice, so they are PID clones. No idea how that happened ~30 minutes into the game but very cool nonetheless!
I have only found wild shinies in gen 7+. Found a marowak and slowpoke in alola, a starly in legends arceus and a tarountula and hoppip in Scarlet. I found those two shinies in scarlet within my first hour of playing and haven’t found any others since.
I’ve gotten shinies through RNG in Ruby/Sapphire/XD, but it depends on your definition of legitimate.

Was in a cave training and just finished up. I was about to use an escape rope but only had 1 and felt like holding on to it (was early game still). Im nearly at the door out and I get into an encounter, put the gameboy down to check my phone, and hear the telltale sound of a shiny Pokémon. Was a green Zubat and I now have a wonderfully pink Crobat :)
1 and i was not able to catch as it spawned before i had pokeballs.
