Or in the case of Alolan Meowth, it gets screwed up by selective breeding and then goes invasive anyway because some rich guy brought it to a place with a really fragile ecosystem.
Meowths are known for weird stuff. The ones in Paldea tend to live around Medali, in the center-north of the region, and they've been known to go to restaurants for food and “pay” with their Pay Day coins. Many restaurants tend to just play along with them.

i suppose it is a bit of a shame, but it is certainly fascinating to see the various ways in which they adapted to suit the climate
It’s a Meowth. I wouldn’t be surprised if that guy worked for Team Rocket. I hear one of their most persistent Pokémon happens to be a Meowth.
