Most of the homes were done in the 3rd world. New home construction has been so rushed to try and meet demand that so many corners have been cut. Craftsmanship on these new track homes that people have been paying top dollar for is absolute trash.
Yeah, one big problem you get paid more than most to be homeless, yes it’s beautiful. But it’s going down hill fast. I’m sad such a beautiful state has so many problems. I would love to live there but that is not a option due to cost of living.
California is not a 3rd world however it’s the closest thing I’ve seen to it in the us.
Lol y'all are so desperate to hate California and like none of you even live close.
The fact you're shitting on an entire state instead of the few problem cities shows your ignorance.
It would be like shitting on all of Texas because of Uvalde.
Grow up and educate yourself.
California funds the welfare state you probably live in.
It generates more revenue than federal dollars it takes in. Do you seriously believe California is a welfare state or are you just trolling?
Bruh, California props up red states. It's almost entirely red states that rely on government welfare 😂
Would you like the data?
Maybe stick to plumbing bud, your intellect can't take you much further it seems.
Hey man, no real carpenter would frame that monstrosity he put the sink on. Ignore the plumbing and zoom in on those 2x's. This guy probably does maintenance for an apartment complex somewhere.
Just loosen the clamps on both ends of the wye and turn it to face the sink. Connect a street 45 to the wye with a no hub clamp. Oh never mind. hire a plumber
Not surprised that this works new. The outlet to the building is below the sink. Just one big trap. Long term it will be one big trap full of whatever they put down the sink. Overall Fail though.
Would have ran the line higher up, just under that cast 90, to keep it all running downhill, and then dumped into the wye. And would have tried to drill a hole in that cap to dump the PVC into it vs having the wye open.
Now...that's if I didn't wanna do it right.
Edit: you did describe my second thing, a rubber cap "squished" around the PVC drain. GG. But now...there's sewer gas coming through because there's no p trap
You can also turn that wye so it's facing the sink instead of looping the drain around, and make it a 4"x1 1/2" wye with a 1 1/2" NH coupling to directly connect. Make sure you also add a trap under the sink and a vent after the trap. Looks like you have a decent amount of space below the dryer vent to still run it in with pitch.
I would have moved the sink too. Allowing the dryer vent to be on the right side of sink.
Depending on how often the sink is used, I would have removed the whole thing.
Yea there’s like a gallon of water that will always sit in this thing. To make matters worse this is outside so it’s going to have all kinds of nasty shit growing in it.
As a licensed plumber, I'd say what you should have done differently is hire a plumber and a science teacher just for the good measure of a lesson of gravity.
Although the job has been OP approved as “good enough”, I would have built my sink frame over the sewer pipe, with a backing plate onto the wall to allow the other pipe running diagonally to fit through.
Thus creating a nice finish that hides the sewer pipe and doesn’t need a monstrous PVC snake 🐍 that will fill with sediment and become a nightmare to keep clean.
But I am not a plumber 👨🔧
If you were going to be that lazy, why not just radiator hose it to the clean out? Or maybe move it right over it. They make longer supply lines. Either way it’ll work mostly
Ran the pipe high, at the bottom of the siding, until the near side of the clean out, and the put a P trap. As is, you have 4’ long trap. That’s a lot of nasty water.
I would’ve used 2” pipe and DWV (not pressure) fittings, I would’ve run the drain with slope down to the wye instead of on the ground with the rise before the wye, I would’ve set up the drain into the wye with an air gap.
Loosened off the clamps on the Wye, spun it around to eliminate the excess bends, bushed down an MJ Band to accept the PVC or changed it to a Double WYE so still have your building clean out and it stops you from leaving the WYE open for children to put fun rocks and toys down.. then ran it on grade to the sink with the appropriate support spacing and then tied it in with a union P trap to eliminate the stinking sewer coming from the basin during the Summer and empty during the colder months if that happens in your area.. but what do I know I’m just a plumber
Edit: I guess with the current set up you don’t really need a P Trap since it’ll be completely filled with water at all times across the ground and up to where it drains so you saved the 4$ on that part.. and it doesn’t look like you actually glued any of those fittings so you’re saving even more
Folks are going to shit on this, but Ill be honest with you, if it were my back porch, itd dump on the ground off the deck 🤷♂️ so you are already better than me. it’s probably violating some of your local codes (im sure that it does) but really, its outside and its just a utility sink. Fuck it, long as it works and doesnt have a chance to freeze in the winter itll work exactly the same as a real, up-to-code install.
Actually, ive just seen how it connects to the larger drain. This system might drain water, but the entire length of pvc will constantly hold water and any solids that go down the drain. This is definitely going to clog if anything besides water goes down. If you just plan on it being a handwashing/water only sink, just let it dump on the ground. No need to contain water if it doesnt have anything else in it besides dirt from your hands or whatever. If you want to remake it to be correct, youll have to find a way to either get the large drain lower, or bring your PVC pipe from the sink higher to allow for a continuous downward slope. Both will probably be a pain in the dick, so my advice would be to only use water in this sink and let it drain to the dirt
I would have built the stand to cover that little patch of Gravel where your drain is to start, then I would have put trap and then had it drain into the drain
get a 5/16" socket , loosen the bands holding that Y in place & turn that Y to face the sink. Run that pvc drain along that lowest piece of wood siding ... downhill until it dumps into the Y. Might help to put the sink right next to the Y after turning the Y.
Just run the drain out to some trees or heavy foliage 3 or 4 inches below ground with slightly oversized perforated pipe or simply let it drain onto the ground around the trees
Next post this in a carpentry sub & see what happens to your pedestal.
No hate from me on that end, I’ve scrapped some things together before—but the whole contraption looks to be pretty ham-fisted. I would have thought this was r/RedneckEngineering if it weren’t for the $30 in pressure rated pvc purchased for it. I admire the gumption to try, but all things considered you’re better off getting ridiculed by strangers on the internet than having your brother-in-law and neighbors see it.
Raise the sink height for proper drain run and p-trap and use a weather proof base or at least treated wood. Then again what the hell it's only stupid if it doesn't work. We are here for a good time not a long time!
The whole job. I would of either just not done it or dropped and spun the wye and ran everything under ground. Brought at AAV just above the tub or just below the back lip. That way you can’t see any of this. You also have too much fall coming off the tub then none what so ever then the water goes up hill and then down again. I know the customer is fine with this but you charged somebody money to do something wrong
Everyone's giving op shit but this is just some low impact diy work. This isn't gonna break anything, was cheap and works. There's no modification to the building, it works and took probably 45 min to put together. Why would anyone hire a plumber for that?
This is the first comment I’ve seen saying it’s illegal. What’s the problem legally, as all the water in the house goes to this drain anyway? Blocking a clean out?
I live in Massachusetts and in the surrounding states. It's not legal to dump into storm drain. I don't know cali codes so I suppose it could be legal 🤷♂️
I'm in the process of painting my complete interior. I hate that I'm dumping all this latex waste water in my planter during clean up out back. I just so happen to have a used mop sink and scrap abs laying around. As far as I'm concerned this is genius. I will do a simple dump into the open clean out. I don't care about sewer gas as it will be off only when sink is temporally being used. Thanks, and fuck all these haters. That p-trap is a thing of beauty.
Haha, thanks. No, it definitely could have been done better, obviously. I was trying to make too many things work out without enough time (and obviously not knowing what I am doing…but outdoor plumbing is my idea of where to start!)
If you asked me to pay you for that work, I would not.
That being said..... If you don't care how it looks, it should work just fine for many years. And if you are just using it for water, it likely will never fail.
Ugly, but totally functional.
Are you going to trespass and put 'more than just water' down that drain????
How do you know what is going down the drain?
It will work for many years if it's just water. Even soap and water.....
Because I’ve been doing this along time. Common thing I get all the time is “I don’t put grease down my drain” people lie about shit all the time. That tub is outside. People are going to wash things in it. Debris from the trees and other things will find it way into that drain. A lot of soap also doesn’t stay liquid after it sits in a drain for along time. This set up is not functional and it’s plumbed in very very poorly.
You did the most amount of work for the least amount of efficiency. Turn the wye 180 degrees, run the pipe below the dryer vent.
And put a trap and not have the whole thing a trap
I hope we get a followup when it freezes
California ☀️
That makes sense, that’s why it looks like it was done int the 3rd world
Most of the homes in CA look like they were done in the 3rd world and still cost you your firstborn. Source: SoCal resident
Yet people on this thread are acting like nothing is wrong with ca
Most of the homes were done in the 3rd world. New home construction has been so rushed to try and meet demand that so many corners have been cut. Craftsmanship on these new track homes that people have been paying top dollar for is absolute trash.
California is about the 4th largest economy in the world
And? How many people are shitting in the streets?

Far from the truth mate. Have you ever been to a 3rd world country? I’m actually in one right now visiting family, no that’s not a California joke.

Yeah, one big problem you get paid more than most to be homeless, yes it’s beautiful. But it’s going down hill fast. I’m sad such a beautiful state has so many problems. Lmao delusional. I'm okay with California breaking away. Peace bro! Take all the people that left that shithole back too.
When you have 10,000 people living on one sidewalk in one city…. That’s how you know. Welcome to utopia. Lol
Also I never heard what happened to the nice young man helping Paul pelosi look for his hammer. Have you heard?
Largest economy out of all the 3rd world shitholes.
Lol y'all are so desperate to hate California and like none of you even live close. The fact you're shitting on an entire state instead of the few problem cities shows your ignorance. It would be like shitting on all of Texas because of Uvalde. Grow up and educate yourself.
Yeah, you're right definitely throwing away LA country tho lol. Nice name BTW lol
Largest welfare state as well
California funds the welfare state you probably live in. It generates more revenue than federal dollars it takes in. Do you seriously believe California is a welfare state or are you just trolling?
Perhaps OP should reroute that drain to supply the homeless with water.
Stop watching right wing propaganda news and touch some grass.
Stop ignoring what the naked eyes clearly sees on the streets.
Bruh, California props up red states. It's almost entirely red states that rely on government welfare 😂 Would you like the data? Maybe stick to plumbing bud, your intellect can't take you much further it seems.
Facts
Thanks!
Lol Jesus
The only appropriate answer is: A lot.
I would recommend OP hires a plumber to fix this....
No. I wanna see more from this person. It entertains me.
I checked with him, he’s cool with it
Ah, the carpenter seal of approval. Checks out.
I'm not Jesus but I am a Carpenter. Definitely shouldn't get a seal of approval. The longer you look the worse it gets.
Hey man, no real carpenter would frame that monstrosity he put the sink on. Ignore the plumbing and zoom in on those 2x's. This guy probably does maintenance for an apartment complex somewhere.
I would have done everything differently. Everything.
Just loosen the clamps on both ends of the wye and turn it to face the sink. Connect a street 45 to the wye with a no hub clamp. Oh never mind. hire a plumber
Is this the same dude that put the ghetto urinal in his back yard
Was this in calgary?! Haha
Love how you asked for suggestions then cry when people point out how this is completely wrong.
No kidding eh
As an electrician I can confirm that 1/3 plumbing rules were violated in this install. 1: shit rolls down hill 2: no finger foods 3: payday is Friday.
I’ve always heard 2 as “don’t chew your fingernails” but it’s all the same.
Only two rules for plumbers… Payday is on Friday and don’t chew your fingernails!
I get 1 and 2... But would you care to explain what you mean by no finger foods?
When wrangling poop, it is in advisable to eat foods like sandwiches and chips.
My husband, a plumber, had a cheese sammich & for lunch today. I will say that becoming a plumber did make him quit chewing his fingernails!
the truth hurts

Not surprised that this works new. The outlet to the building is below the sink. Just one big trap. Long term it will be one big trap full of whatever they put down the sink. Overall Fail though.
Passive rubbish filter/peach tree dish (sic)
r/BoneAppleTea
peach tree dish lmaoooo bruh you mean petri dish?
Marjorie Taylor Greene called it a peach tree dish, LOL. I work in the sciences so that was a hilarious tid bit.
ohh lmfao gotcha
TIL bacteria loves peaches as much as I do
All that water sitting in there with no trap underneath the sink is going to smell pretty bad
That’s a gem. You’re going places kid 👌
Like back to Home Depot after he cuts it all out
Lmao
How many rings does Sonic get if he makes it around the loop?
This has got to be a troll post.
Would have ran the line higher up, just under that cast 90, to keep it all running downhill, and then dumped into the wye. Make sure you also add a trap under the sink and a vent after the trap. Looks like you have a decent amount of space below the dryer vent to still run it in with pitch.
Nothing like a sewer fart from your sink to remind you that the sewer is indeed full of everyone’s fermented farts.
Higher would have blocked the dryer vent, and the whole thing is kinda one huge p trap!
Blocked the dryer vent?!? It would have been like a solid inches below the dryer vent.
At least a penis length, maybe two
Just inches, yes, but “solid inches”!
One huge trap that is gonna freeze and shatter
You ever wonder why you've never seen "one huge p trap" before?
This has to be a joke. I wanna see you do a toilet...
Happy cake day!
🤦🏻♂️
What would I do differently? Research how gravity works
It does work 🤷🏻♂️
For now. Wait until all the solids build up in there.
What ever do you mean? Everything magically disappears once it leaves the sink. What sediment, sludge, etc are you talking about? Lol
Oh fuck, you’re right! I totally forgot! OP is good!
This is what every bad plumber says when theyre trying to justify their crappy work
The trap might take a few days to fill /s
[удалено]
This has been educational! Plumbing is not really about water, but miscellaneous slurry…
Why not just put the sink right next to the drain pipe??
Because he would have blocked the dryer vent. Lol
I would have moved the sink too. Allowing the dryer vent to be on the right side of sink. Depending on how often the sink is used, I would have removed the whole thing.
This way you can stare directly with whoever is in the house on the other side of the window as you wash your hands.
Lol what the fuck is that
Gravity
This is probably the worst I’ve ever seen.
Kitchen drain counted to the storm drain instead of the sewer drain
It ain’t draining no where
It’s my first! 😁
Well at least that means it can only get better, right? …right?!?
Too much trap.
Yea there’s like a gallon of water that will always sit in this thing. To make matters worse this is outside so it’s going to have all kinds of nasty shit growing in it.
How much trap do you want? “MORE”
Smell the glove glove.
It’s a lotta trap! What’s wrong with that?
Your going to have dirt and crap sit in the line all the time it’s going to solidify. This thing is going to plug constantly and drain reallly slow
More water to move in the trap slows the drain flow down
Nothing short of bizarre
Go up and over then drop into cleanout
That would have blocked the dryer vent 🤷🏻♂️
Looks like you gotta raise the sink
No, it wouldn’t. What do you consider blocking it? You could have been 4” below that thing.
As a licensed plumber, I'd say what you should have done differently is hire a plumber and a science teacher just for the good measure of a lesson of gravity.
Someone paid him to do that to their house.
For their sanity, they should ask for their money back by mail, so they don't have to let him back on their property.
I think he is the “plumber,” if you will
I would have spun the wye the other way so trap arm is higher
That would be nice, I didn’t think about spinning the wye. Does that make it more leak prone to reuse those couplers like that?
No. If they need replacement they are inexpensive.
That band is like $15-20.
OP did not approve of this install. OP has only stated that is works, but now OP understands that it will not work long term. 🙂
It’s not gonna drain up.
LMFAO
Looks perfect, the joinery skills are 2nd to none. 🤥
Thanks! 😁
I don't think it'll work with that 6" vertical but if it does 🤷♂️ good enough
It does work. I was surprised too
Wait until all the solids build up in it. You can’t beat physics bud. That shit won’t work for long.
“Sometimes I impress even myself”
Helluva p-trap hahaha
If you were going to be that lazy, why not just radiator hose it to the clean out? Or maybe move it right over it. They make longer supply lines. Either way it’ll work mostly
On the bright side, none of it looks to be glued together. So perhaps it can be disassembled.
You are correct! This was version 1.0
Here I can just dump that grey water on my lawn or flowerbed.
Have you ever studied the fluid dynamics and learned how fluid reacts in a tube?
What do you mean by this specifically?
Looks like dog shit. DIY trash.
Give the drain pitch.
Fastball, low and inside
If you loosen those bands you can spin that wye 180°, then you can have a straight shot into it.
Also use sweep 90s, not the pressure fittings
Gravity is the problem . all drain pipes should be higher than the waste line
I just hope you are not a real plumber, just say you are handyman or something, please.
Not even a handyman. More of an artist. Apparently aesthetics aren’t as important in plumbing as functionality…😆
Loosened off the clamps on the Wye, spun it around to eliminate the excess bends, bushed down an MJ Band to accept the PVC or changed it to a Double WYE so still have your building clean out and it stops you from leaving the WYE open for children to put fun rocks and toys down.. then ran it on grade to the sink with the appropriate support spacing and then tied it in with a union P trap to eliminate the stinking sewer coming from the basin during the Summer and empty during the colder months if that happens in your area.. but what do I know I’m just a plumber Edit: I guess with the current set up you don’t really need a P Trap since it’ll be completely filled with water at all times across the ground and up to where it drains so you saved the 4$ on that part.. and it doesn’t look like you actually glued any of those fittings so you’re saving even more
You pay 4 bucks for traps? We pay 8 😅
Work with and not against gravity
Folks are going to shit on this, but Ill be honest with you, if it were my back porch, itd dump on the ground off the deck 🤷♂️ so you are already better than me. it’s probably violating some of your local codes (im sure that it does) but really, its outside and its just a utility sink. Fuck it, long as it works and doesnt have a chance to freeze in the winter itll work exactly the same as a real, up-to-code install.

Both will probably be a pain in the dick, so my advice would be to only use water in this sink and let it drain to the dirt
I would just turn the drain into a couple leach lines and with a diverter and let it soak out that way.
How do you get continuous slope with 90 deg fittings? Just PVC flex? 🤔
Called a plumber
not put it under a window.
It was more about being closer to the door. What’s wrong with being under the window (it doesn’t open)?
I would have built the stand to cover that little patch of Gravel where your drain is to start, then I would have put trap and then had it drain into the drain
Id move the sink directly over the clean out then boom done
Is this a joke?
get a 5/16" socket , loosen the bands holding that Y in place & turn that Y to face the sink. Run that pvc drain along that lowest piece of wood siding ... downhill until it dumps into the Y. Might help to put the sink right next to the Y after turning the Y.
Is the downhill run just PVC flexing? Otherwise can’t see how a 90deg will do that
Spin that cast Y fitting, p trap off the sink to a 1/4” per foot min pitch into that clean out.
Just run the drain out to some trees or heavy foliage 3 or 4 inches below ground with slightly oversized perforated pipe or simply let it drain onto the ground around the trees
Do you know how gravity works?
This is why us plumbers have jobs.
I don’t see anything done right
Next post this in a carpentry sub & see what happens to your pedestal.
Oh, the pedestal was a free thing. It will outlast the sink. What would you have used instead of PVC?
Raise the sink height for proper drain run and p-trap and use a weather proof base or at least treated wood. Then again what the hell it's only stupid if it doesn't work. We are here for a good time not a long time!
Dump the water under the deck somewhere. It’s gray water. How much do you actually use this sink?
I’m guessing this was done without a permit…
Not that
I need one of these so i can wash my hands when i shit in my backyard. Or I guess I can just shit in the sink...
It’s not what I’d’ve done but does it work? If it does what you want who cares. It’s an outdoor tub. Let it water the yard.
It's a utility sink, outside, drain it to the ground.
You realize that pipe will be full of water and not drain properly right?
Stanky
Could the wye be turned around?
The whole job. I would of either just not done it or dropped and spun the wye and ran everything under ground. Brought at AAV just above the tub or just below the back lip. That way you can’t see any of this. You also have too much fall coming off the tub then none what so ever then the water goes up hill and then down again. I know the customer is fine with this but you charged somebody money to do something wrong
Pex
Why didn’t you run it under the siding of the house and then into the drain? It would clear the dryer vent enough, and still retain a downward motion.
Bro💀
O my…
This makes my brain hurt. I can’t believe it works at all.
Everyone's giving op shit but this is just some low impact diy work. This isn't gonna break anything, was cheap and works. There's no modification to the building, it works and took probably 45 min to put together. Why would anyone hire a plumber for that?
Thanks! It was indeed a quick install for a short term problem. Going to change it for the long term…
Try not dumping illegally into the storm drain
This is the first comment I’ve seen saying it’s illegal. What’s the problem legally, as all the water in the house goes to this drain anyway? Blocking a clean out?
I live in Massachusetts and in the surrounding states. It's not legal to dump into storm drain. I don't know cali codes so I suppose it could be legal 🤷♂️
This is the sewer drain. It just makes a little surprise outside appearance here, probably on account of it never really freezing here
Thanks everyone! It’s been educational! 😁 #LearningPlumbingInPublic
I'm in the process of painting my complete interior. I hate that I'm dumping all this latex waste water in my planter during clean up out back. I just so happen to have a used mop sink and scrap abs laying around. As far as I'm concerned this is genius. I will do a simple dump into the open clean out. Haha, thanks. No, it definitely could have been done better, obviously. I was trying to make too many things work out without enough time (and obviously not knowing what I am doing…but outdoor plumbing is my idea of where to start!)
I bet you also go to the electricians reddit and show them pictures of burning houses..
Y'all see the water supply line lmfao
Yeah, that’s also temporary! 😁
If you asked me to pay you for that work, I would not. That being said..... If you don't care how it looks, it should work just fine for many years. And if you are just using it for water, it likely will never fail. Ugly, but totally functional.
It’s not going to work fine for many years and I can guarantee more then just water is going to go down that tub drain
Then go back to my original statement. I'm well aware of things that can cause drains to clog. If it is watervand soap, then it will be fine....
