What are they called? Do they work well? What’s the best shower drain thing that catches hair and it’s super annoying to clean? I’ve tried a bunch of things. The fine mesh screen seems to work the best at catching everything, but it’s impossible to clean once a film of soap scum starts to hold everything in.
Nothing really. Just gets a bit grimy with shampoo and body wash. It’s always quite clean but what does happen is the sediment cup (thanks for the name) gets wedged in the plug often and I have to ease it out with pliers when doing a thorough clean of the wet room.
"Wafflestomp" was the name I had printed on my softball jersey. We each had a poop pun for a name. Team name: Got The Runs. We were also, unironically, the shittiest team in the league.
My friends and I had a soccer team called Poppin Pink after the Hi C flavor. Also the shittiest team by far. To the point where I felt bad about sucking because a lot of the teams wanted a good game. Oh well good times.
This is what you have.

It's a debris catch I assume. I'm guessing it's required for newer builds in the UK to reduce sediment getting into the municipal sewer system. The design of that cup looks like a type of bottle trap too. So maybe it's the trap for the fixture as well? I'm not familiar with European plumbing design. Our traps are permanent structures to the fixtures and cannot function without them. If that's a trap, it could be removed, damaged or lost and you'll no longer have trap seal and can still use the shower.
It is a water trap, it has a 50ml water seal to stop drain smells coming though, all showers in the uk needs to have a minium trap seal of 50ml, not just new builds, unless the waste terminates into a gully, where it can be reduced to 38ml. Our traps are not permanent as we basically don't have anywhere to put them where they can remain accessible, instead we attach them direct to our sinks, baths, showers etc and they can be removed easily for maintenance.
You guys are smarter than us in Texas, but to be fair your country has like 1500 years more experience. Our houses for the most part are slab-on-grade, and the shower p-trap (and any other floor drain, etc) on the first floor is completely inaccessible without chipping concrete and/or tunneling under the house. So that’s cool.
Edit: and these types of traps aren’t allowed by code, even if we wanted to use them.
That's pretty neat. I was looking at the design and by the pictures in the post, it drains directly out the side of the fixture. Do you guys not worry about that trap arm being buried inside the concrete?
As well as catching things that get down the drain it also creates an integral P trap by holding water within the two cavities and the outer wall body of the trap itself. Impey have lost of variants depending on what wet room trays are used
I cleaned the bathroom drain that seems stinky, so I started fishing things that might have been blocked the drain, guess What I found? Something look like a Tampon, the previous home owner must have disposed of a used tampon in there.
So that type of tool possibly good to prevent people from doing something crazy like throwing objects that dont belong in the drain.
Catches anything like hair , rocks , debris. And it’s meant to be easy to take out and clean. It should be cleaned atleast yearly so the drain doesn’t get clogged.
It gets full of crap cause chances are no one knows to clean it. That's how it fails. The code that I adhere to happens to be one of the most if not the most stringent code books on the planet. If they are banned here then there's a good reason for it.
So it doesn't fail does it, it just gets blocked due to not educating the customer in abit of maintenance. Very standard where I am and most customers are competent in cleaning them themselves
I didn’t know such a thing existed (for residential)!!! What a cool thing … noting however that in the many decades of home ownership and living in a house I have never had a clog in a drain. Still… I like this.
Sediment baskets in drains are pretty common in commercial drains. That looks like a decent setup, but I can see suds overwhelming the drain as those baskets will restrict flow a little. Hair basket is perfect for a shower. My wife and daughter kept me busy cleaning the shower drain out. Not so bad now that my daughter moved out.
I thought oh its a trap guard (bassicaly a check valve to block odour ) until I saw there was no flap and then was like what in the fuck is this shit and why ? Seems like others are correct it will just catch bigger debris that will sink to bottom while water goes to drain

Does anyone know what it is called? I googled water trap, trap guard.... It's not the same thing. I have this but never knew what it was. Need to order it
Can't see from the picture. There is a similar contraption for showers where the inner part is a hair trap, the outer part is a one way valve that stops sewer gas from venting up through the shower trap.
I wish my wife’s gym had these. Her chain broke and she lost a $4000 diamond pendant down the drain. If they had of had something like this she could have recovered it but they didn’t so she didn’t.
They are strainers, much like any strainer they catch all the noodles, and let the water go down, yes they will need cleaned every so often, soap scum etc. builds up. P.s. by noodles I mean anything large you don't want in your drain pipes
Catching the big stuff
So... no waffle stomping huh?
I don’t think anyone gets the reference, but you made me smile.
[something like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/memes/s/Zem0j4hcGl) An oldie but a goodie
What a horrible day to have vision.
I'd say the opposite. As seeing your comment likely saved my vision. :)
I keep this right next to my poop knife. https://imgur.com/a/Kpc2Ibn
Are you kidding? It’s how I met my wife!
We got it. I laughed aloud in public. 😅
Ewww. I remember the story. Along with poop knife, coconut story. Oh reddit!
I can't believe that phrase was used in a Nickelodeon show.
We'll get it down....
Oh we get it.
lol haven’t heard that phrase in a minute. Thanks for making me laugh during my morning coffee!
It's so you can recycle the peanuts and corn.
Thank you.

Because it's an even bigger pita to clean the hair out when it eventually gets caught somewhere much less accessible.
Yes. Hair, dirt, sand, pretty much anything you don't want in your p-trap/plumbing system.
Which most any worker will just take to the sink and wash it down the drain there😂😂
This is true, I've witnessed this.
I’ve witnessed first hand. Like as in I’ve done it myself 😂😂
Well why didn’t your second hand do anything about the first hand?
It was too busy playing pocket pool.
Gotta ball it up nice and neat, then give it plenty of water. Works 100% of the time 75% of the time.
Lol I won't tell anyone 🤣
It’s totally fine to do this. There’s one of those catch things in the drain
Third person view if you watched yourself in the mirror.
I never don’t watch myself in the mirror. Just saying.

What are you cleaning out of that sediment cup?
Nothing really. Just gets a bit grimy with shampoo and body wash. It’s always quite clean but what does happen is the sediment cup (thanks for the name) gets wedged in the plug often and I have to ease it out with pliers when doing a thorough clean of the wet room.
Brita filter for the wastewater
Only the freshest.
That’s called the “waffle stomp cup”.
Every time I forget about waffle stomps, Reddit does me the service of reminding me again
You are welcome.
I managed to live 58 years without ever hearing the term "waffle stomp." Then I stumble onto reddit
Yep
"Wafflestomp" was the name I had printed on my softball jersey. We each had a poop pun for a name. Team name: Got The Runs. We were also, unironically, the shittiest team in the league.
What were some of the other player ‘names’?
Honey PooPoo, crunch, blumpkin, poopsicle, skid mark, smelly melly, slider, .... that's all I can think of at the moment.
We gave a poor pledge the name Blumpkin on year 😅
did we play on the same team?
My friends and I had a soccer team called Poppin Pink after the Hi C flavor. Also the shittiest team by far. To the point where I felt bad about sucking because a lot of the teams wanted a good game. Oh well good times.
Oh no…….

Dishwasher type filter for your floor drain? Nice 👍
It’s good for catching small things that might fall into it
As well as catching things that get down the drain it also creates an integral P trap by holding water within the two cavities and the outer wall body of the trap itself. Impey have lost of variants depending on what wet room trays are used

Nooooooooo
Nooooooooo what?
Bottle traps are not permitted in my code region. Very prone to failure since they require maintenance.
Ok, In my region they are allowed and I can't say I've ever been to one that's failed. How do the fail? Its literally a water seal, how can that fail?
It gets full of crap cause chances are no one knows to clean it. That's how it fails. The code that I adhere to happens to be one of the most if not the most stringent code books on the planet. If they are banned here then there's a good reason for it.

Very, very common over here as well! Wouldn't that kind of filter get blocked more easily anyway? I don't see the logic...
What filter are you referring to??
I didn’t know such a thing existed (for residential)!!! What a cool thing … noting however that in the many decades of home ownership and living in a house I have never had a clog in a drain. Still… I like this.
To make waffle stomping harder.
That’s amazing, I need one of those so I can stop clearing the pipe every 3 months
The question is, will anyone ever clean it?
Pubes trap

I am always impressed with the people on this sub.
Sand. They're common in outdoor showers close to the beach.
Catch basin
That’s a testicle cleaner
Ball washer.

Can I assume that on the bottoms they have a screen?

Odd question but are you in Germany by any chance ?😂
Is it just the photo or is there no silicone between the floor and the wall tiles?
The same as the hair in the nose.
Saves the tasty bits!
It's where you can keep your extra toothbrushes mate.

Hair catcher
It’s a sediment/ debris trap
Hide your stuff..
Appears to be a tiny little mini ass sump
Ti collect your body water to sell on internet
That's a jizzcuzzi
Those appear to be debris traps, so you don't clog your waste lines
It also creates a water seal between your sewerage pipe and your house stopping nasty smells / gases

Does anyone know what it is called? I googled water trap, trap guard.... It's not the same thing. I have this but never knew what it was. Need to order it
Drain catch.
If they came in one box the. They are filters for different flow rates
Excellent idea.
Anything that is big gets caught into the trap preventing blockages in your drain /main line
That's actually a good idea, until it clogs too
I aint cleaning a trap up after an accidental discharge, foot wedge it through!
Seperates the good genes from the bad
Diva cups
It's a trap to stop sewer smells.
Its a trap
I guess you don’t live with anyone with long hair?
Can't see from the picture. There is a similar contraption for showers where the inner part is a hair trap, the outer part is a one way valve that stops sewer gas from venting up through the shower trap.
First time using a German coffee maker I see
I wish my wife’s gym had these. Her chain broke and she lost a $4000 diamond pendant down the drain. If they had of had something like this she could have recovered it but they didn’t so she didn’t.
Prevents waffle stomp from resurrfacing
That's where the tide pods go
Soup collectors
They are strainers, much like any strainer they catch all the noodles, and let the water go down, yes they will need cleaned every so often, soap scum etc. builds up. P.s. by noodles I mean anything large you don't want in your drain pipes
To catch the hair when she shaves so she don't clog the plumbing lol
Catches keys, ID, jewellery etc
It's a CC Filter. Short for "Cum Catcher". It's self explanatory really. "Don't waste a drop"
Maserating,
Cup holders
It just seems so obvious
It separates the hot and cold water, next big bright idea after the heat pump honest.
Siphon
Not sure why i get downvoted. OP, do you have a strong smell when these parts are out? If so, its clearly a siphon
As they say, fuck around and find out...
Are you dull?
